    Heroes/Villans!!

On the forums, DO NOT mention Troy Hickman, it causes him to appear and Jack your thread.

...Wait... Well maybe he didn't notice.
  2. That article forgot to mention the awesomeness that is Striga. More zones like Striga and Faultline, please!
  3. Continuation of off-topic ramblings.
  4. Reference to a loosely related internet meme.

  6. Shield Charge. I will use it on a single underling if that's what's around when it's done recharging. It makes me giggle like a schoolgirl every single time I use it.

Depending on the size of the map, this sounds about right.

A: Eight… one to locate a light bulb, one to inform an unsuspecting hero of a “wave of darkness sweeping over the city”, one to play a hapless hostage to confirm the story, one to stash the bulb in an enemy warehouse, one to tip off the hero about the “item of power” that can push back the darkness in a warehouse, one to drop hints about the “altar of darkness” the “item of power” must be inserted into to stop the “wave of darkness”, one to disguise the lamp as an altar and (finally) one to gloat and tell the hero he’s been duped.
    Win!

  10. Purples will drop from enemies, and only enemies. The enemy in question must be capable of dropping a level 50 recipe, which means it must be level 47 or higher. Nothing changes the rate of drops that are purple, but enemy rank changes the total rate of drops.

In other words: Lieutenants are more likely to drop recipes than minions, and bosses are more likely to drop recipes than lieutenants; every recipe that any of them drops has an equal chance of being purple, provided they are capable of dropping level 50 recipes in the first place.

This may be a slight oversimplification of the process, but it's basically how it works.

  12. Oh, and on topic: Of course he was reluctant; only a madman would want to have such power over people. Our benevolent leader only wants what is best for his people, and he's the only one with the power to provide it. The best man to lead is the one who fears what he may become if he gains such power, and our Emperor is the best of all of us.

    All hail Emperor Cole!

Agreed. I think the important thing when building a force like that is to make sure that your logistics are effective and that those of similar ability are grouped together. Killing off your own soldiers has never made an army stronger on the whole, it just improves the average quality.

The less effective troops get to go on the missions that are easiest, or where return is almost impossible. That way if your crappy soldiers have to die, at least they can do something useful in the process.

Taking care of all of your troops, including the ones that suck, is of utmost importance for both morale and force power.
  14. After playing STO, I now understand CO. They put it out with so much promise so they could sell lifetime subs to have enough money to speed up the development of Star Trek, which they expect to be successful.

I think CO was just a fundraiser for STO, and I'm okay with that.

Terrain had a lot more to do with the standoff at Thermopylae than training, though training was a factor. On open ground, I don't care how well trained you are, when you're outnumbered 100 to 1, you're pretty much screwed.
  16. I would have made a thread for this, but I was too busy playing video games.
  17. I'd go a step further and say just remove all randomly spawning nicti, voids, and quantums. Keep them in the Kheldian story arcs, but get rid of them everywhere else. Voids and Cysts are the reasons I don't play Kheldians, though I'd really like to. They seem like they'd be fun, but it's just plain stupid for an already arguably weak AT to have such a weakness be so terribly commonplace.

It's like if Superman were at 5% of his normal capacity. Sure, he's still a freakin superhero and can still handle his own, he's just not that impressive. Now give all of your every day thugs guns with Kryptonite bullets. Suddenly Superman is useless on his own and has to hide in the corner until Batman beats up the Kryptonite gunmen.

I'll grant you, it's not nearly as bad as it used to be before Kheldians could resist quantum attacks, but 'not that bad' is still not okay. If you want to keep the Kryptonite bullets and give Superman his full strength, that would be fine too.

AE is already designed like that. You're saying you can simply solo an AE farm instead of getting merits, well... You can already use Tix on Gold rolls. 4000 Tix=20 merits. And tix can do a lot more. But people still run TFs. Why? Because on a good team, you get 20 merits faster than you get 4000 tix, and in the process of getting those 20 merits, you get all sorts of random drops. Your argument (People wouldn't run TFs if they could get the same rewards through AE) is proven invalid because people can already get the same rewards through AE.
There's currently no way to choose your specific recipe with AE. So you're wrong.

  21. Congrats again on the promotion!

    My question:

What are the chances we'll be seeing new Epic ATs in the near future?

Btw, you do realize that everything is going to be blamed on you now, whether or not you actually had anything to do with it, right?
  23. Congrats to all the promotions! The way I'm reading this is that nobody got anything even remotely resembling a demotion. The game has just become so awesome that they needed a new tier of super-boss to reflect it.

The rewards might have to be adjusted to still make TFs the best way to earn prizes, but I think it's doable with a bit of number crunching and datamining. All it really needs is for TFs to be worth enough Inf for it to still be worth it over farming.
No matter what number you put on it, it's unlikely to be worth the effort of assembling a team and running all over the place just to get a big boost, when you could simply solo an AE farm at +1/x8 a few times without having to get a team that you can count on being there for the whole thing. The only way to ensure that people will do TFs with out a different reward than you can get just from farming, is to put the numbers into ridiculous territory, and then the only thing that people would do is TFs and they'd complain that nobody wants to do regular missions any more.

The only possible outcome of doing this is removing the game's economy completely, and there are a great many people, myself included, who enjoy playing the market. If you make all rewards purchasable from vendors, nobody will use the market, and the market will effectively die.

Heavy-handed changes to any aspect of the game are always bad for the game in the short term, and it has to be very carefully calculated in order to be good for the long term. The addition of the merit system was implemented to add a new layer of depth to the reward system; simplifying it just doesn't make sense.
