  1. All of my characters are being somehow manipulated by an exceptionally powerful extra-dimensional entity known as 'NarfMann.' They have no idea that everything they do is being controlled by NarfMann, and probably would think you're crazy if you mentioned it. The exception to this is my self-aware controller, who knows that he has no control over his actions, and that he's just the plaything of some bored guy sitting at a machine pulling his metaphorical strings. Naturally, he's generally believed to be completely insane.

  3. Is it really that hard to glance at the buff icon bar?
  4. I experienced a series of astoundingly good PuGs on Freedom this weekend, myself. They were all filled with smart people who weren't willing to give up when stuff got a little tough, instead we all figured out the problem and worked around it, ending up with a nice steamroller type deal.

The 40s is extremely depressing time for me because all the crazy stuff like this. It severely limits what missions I will due because of the frustrations. If it takes too long I am not going to do it. Its not that I get defeated by them, that rarely happens but its not worth the xp/inf/merits over time. If they were to go back and change alot of that stuff I would be more likely to play all the content instead of just a select few missions. I will do a tf or sf in a group with those factions but thats because you have buffs/debuffs to help deal with these so that they dont slow you down as much.
Methinks you either don't know what you're doing, or are soloing Malta with one of the ATs/power combos that Malta are particularly well-suited against. If you pay attention to what you're fighting, Malta are only scary. Trying to solo Malta with an empathy/Archery defender will probably result in serious death, but with any troller, tanker, scrapper, stalker, brute, dominator, mastermind or blaster all it takes to get through is timely use of inspirations and/or clever power use. And you may have to run away to regroup/recover before the fight is over, but that's part of what makes them fun.

(Here's a hint: Don't let the sappers hit you)

I'll have to disagree there. Carnies, Malta, Vanguard and Cimerorans are all examples of enemy groups that aren't really all that annoying, but are either specialized against certain types of hero/villain, or require you to pay attention in order to win most of the time.

Malta especially; best enemy group in the game. They make you pay attention to what you're fighting with the sappers, and then they hit you frequently and hard with the gunslingers, making you scramble and use well-timed inspirations and possibly temp powers in order to survive. And then every once in a while a couple of easy lieutenants you weren't paying attention to will become a boss, just to complicate things further. I love/hate Malta so very much.
  8. As a bit of a departure from the topic: Holy carp! DM/WP is a freakin' great combination for a brute! (at least at low levels)

    Carry on!
  9. How is killing someone by poking them to death more elegant than cleaving their skull in twain with all the force of a mighty tsunami, washing away life in a wave of crimson mist?

KoA are the primary reason I get my raptor pack from the first mayhem/safeguard mission.
  11. I don't have a problem with a vampire with a sword, I just don't understand why it's necessary. If there's a special reason for the sword, then it's all groovy, but otherwise I don't get why it's a deal-breaker.
  12. If you weren't sold on having a weapon for some ridiculous reason that I'll never understand no matter how many times you try to explain it, your vampire would be extremely easy to make. DM/WP scrapper or brute with a fly/costume change macro that turned your statuesque regular form into a tiny hideous bat-demon looking creature. Also, pick up the concealment pool and use another costume change to have an obscuring white smoky aura when you phase shift or use invisibility. Touch of Fear can be your hypnotism power.

I just don't understand why a super-strong immortal being would feel a need to carry around a sword when he could kill people just by slapping them. Plus vampires generally have superhuman reflexes, so other beings with weapons aren't really that much of a threat. If the look is where the problem is, power customization lets you make all of the lingering effects of dark melee powers barely noticeable.

The thing about aristocratic vampires is that they're only sophisticated when they're walking around being social, and when it comes time to fight you or kill you, they tend to just overpower you with their bestial viciousness. It's the contrast that makes vampires scary in the first place. Even then, the dark melee animations aren't exactly sloppy-looking.

You know what, I changed my mind, you shouldn't go with a DM/WP brute for a vampire, it would be stupid...

*goes off to make a DM/WP brute for a vampire*

Also, Hitmen. Particularly Mook Hitmen. Not because they're hard, but because they're just freakin' annoying. I avoid Mooks because of them.

    *Blam*
    *run away*
well, I guess I'll wait for him to come back...
    (2 minutes later) *Blam!*
    *run away*
*sigh* Well, I guess I'll move on, I'm never gonna kill this guy without chasing...
*run to the next group, start the fight...*
    *Blam*

I like CoT, but the spectral daemon lords suck. If we don't get to have auto-hit damaging auras that also have monstrous debuffs, neither should enemies. An AV, I could accept, but certainly not a common mid-level Lt.

Also, no mob should ever ever have a detention field. Ever. It doesn't make things hard, it doesn't make things fun. It's just annoying and boring.
  15. Any time I feel like my faith in humanity has risen to dangerously high levels, I read the comments to a youtube video. Any youtube video will do. All it takes is five or six comments and I'm back to my regular cynical self.
  16. Dark Melee doesn't quite do it by level 4, but it comes really, really close.
  17. I had a brute whose attack chain from level 6 until 32 was punch->brawl->air superiority->brawl->punch, etc.,

Not quite the same ability, but very close. I think eventually I put boxing in instead of brawl, after I got a recharge enhancement in there. Also, before I got Air Superiority, I was using throwing knives in its place, which meant I basically had a full attack chain at level 1. They weren't crazy damaging attacks, but it was certainly quick enough for me.

  19. My brain tends to get caught in circular patterns, and when I was a child I had a tendency to copy animal sounds. There was a family living next door to me that had a chihuahua one summer and when it barked at me it sounded like "narfnarfnarfnarf" which I would repeat to it for hours on end. It never got tired of it, and I never got tired of it.

So it got to the point where I would be trying to sleep at night and would still think about narfing at the dog. I forgot about it for 10 years or so until I saw Pinky and the Brain for the first time, and Pinky said "Narf!" and those afternoons of barking at a noisy little rat-dog all came back to me, and it was a moment of great amusement.

So, when it came time to set up a forum name for the beta boards of CoH, I tried to make it sound silver-agey and goofy and added 'Man' to the end of 'Narf' and I accidentally typed in a second 'n' and it kinda stuck.

There simply are fewer Defiant players than there are Freedom players. This is a fact. In the aggregate, Defiant players generate much less inf than Freedom players, just from the sheer weight of number. They generate fewer recipies, and less salvage.

While, yes, inf under a merged market would flow freely between the sides, the fact is, prices for everything would rise. And with fewer Defiant players playing, that means individuals on Defiant would have a harder time paying for things from the merged market.

Also, in a merged market situation, the flow of Freedom inf to Defiant inf would quickly stabilize, leaving Defiant players overall in a poorer position.

Teams are generally the best/fastest way of generating influence and infamy. Have you tried to form teams on Defiant? Let me tell you, most of the time, you cannot get a large team together, on Defiant, unless there is an event of some kind running. on Freedom, on the other hand, it is easy to get into a team.

Agree, y/n? Do you think that players on the smaller servers are in a position that they can't afford to outfit their toons because the players on the larger servers have all the inf? Do you think the market should be split up so it's intra-server only, to be fair to the majority of lower-population servers? Would that lower prices for everyone? What effect do you think it would have on supply?
Thank you. You have made the point far more clearly than I ever could. Segregation is bad in all areas save chemistry.

This can't be emphasized enough. Travel powers on SR are now even less necessary than they used to be.

But if they did that I might have to take a primary power at level 12. I really like having that power choice freed up for one of my pool prerequisites.
