    Issue 12 is out!

    I wish they'd mail me issue 10 already. I can't read past issue 9 until I get 10.

I think it's time to write support again. /sigh
  2. Got another one. I don't want to link it because I don't want to spoil the mission arc.

It's with Technician Naylor, in the text that offers the mission titled, 'Find the Truth'.

"I don't beleive it, not a word." Believe is spelled wrong.
  3. Ugh. I hate the Safety typo, I've reported it more than once.

I have a few screenshots of errors. I clipped them to the important area and circled the errors in red.

When I got Crash Cage as a contact: Crash Cage

Diviner Maros - i before e, except after c. 3 errors in one paragraph!

Officer Emmert Error, or is he just cold?

    Operative Kirkland Too many vias.

Psymon Omega, or is it Psimon?

Merc Serum Power , the description on the power select screen. I haven't checked if that's been fixed. It should say 'wears'.

    Newspaper Mission in Sharkhead.

Stella the Mouth , a broker in Nerva. Should say 'knocked'. * I just realized there's also a T missing in the, as in "if the place got knocked over."

    Hmm.

Recently I was reading the message boards for a game company that I'd played MUDs through (years ago). Apparently they're making a MMOG now. While looking through posts I came across this.

I thought, "Gee, Statesman's motto is getting around to other games...?"

But now I wonder, is it someone that worked here, someone that works there but plays here, or is it possible that States is moonlighting??

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe "soon" predates Statesman, as does "working as intended."

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Uh...yeah.

But I was talking about the little <tm> after the word "Soon." I've never seen a game dev use a trademark with "Soon" other than on these boards.

Hmm. Might be time to play this card: Forum Cartel

Someone's probably said this already, but events like this should not be limited to end of beta. These events are so much fun for the players, and they add a piece of content which, frankly, would put this game on a different plane than other MMO games.

Live dev interaction on both the hero and villain side (I assume the characters and powersets of Lord Recluse and his inner circle have been created internally) like this is something that should be more common...not too common, mind you, but it should be a permanent part of the game that players can really get into. PvE, fun as it is, can get a bit dry at times...and while PvP vs. other players is always an option, nothing can substitute for events where we can fight the epic heroes/villains.

Please give this serious consideration...I think players would gladly risk the chance of incurring debt for these types of events.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I couldn't agree more.

One of the nice things about MUDding was the interaction between the devs and players. It got players to RP and made them feel good.

Granted, a MUD is a lot smaller than an MMO, but if States and Lord Recluse popped in occasionally to stir up their respective masses and direct them to the PvP zones it would be cool.

They don't even have to fight, they could stay at the bases and supervise the battles. They are the leaders after all, no need for them to actually take part in battles, just act like a general more or less.

And those that shout things that don't pertain to the ongoing battles (like nerfbats and stuff) should be ignored...or silenced. <insert evil grin>

    (We need evil smileys!)
  8. The only one I saw in my instance was Empaler. I, and and eleventy billion others, kicked his/her butt. (My camera was out so far I couldn't tell if it was male or female)

Just as he/she went down the game crashed with some weird error.

Sheesh, if mods have powers like that I'm not taking part in PvP with NCSoft employees.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
FYI - for those who don't like the idea because villains should look different than heroes - remember that villains already have hero options. They can create a character identical to one that exists in City of Heroes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, I know. I was one of the testers that posted about there being too much spandex.

Just last night I saw a villain that looked like...well, Statesman. Big star on his chest, red, white, and blue costume.

Does it bother me? Yeah, a little.

Would it keep me from playing CoV? Nope.

Would I team with someone like that? Probably not.

    They'd ruin my immersion.
  10. Then what about all the zones you won't be able to access either because you are heroic and those zones are villainous?

Maybe they should just make everything, clothes, ATs, zones, available to everyone regardless of whether they buy CoV or not. Y'know, to be fair to everyone.

All I know is that if I didn't play CoH and I bought CoV I'd be a little ticked that heroes looked exactly like my characters. But that's me. 'Cause it is supposed to also be a stand alone game.

There will be plenty of people that buy CoV solely for their hero SG to get bases. They will have no intention of playing a villain, no intention of taking part in the PvP zones, and yet..they can look exactly like a villain. It just seems odd to me that it should be that way and people think it's great. IMO if you want to look like a villain...play one!
  11. [ QUOTE ]

Except for the missions, and the enemies you fight, and the areas you're in, and the fact that you CAN make a villainous character in CoV or an uberhero in CoH quite easily regardless of what other people do.

Costumes are completely and totally cosmetic. How does it hurt your gaming experience if I want to have a superhero with digitigrade legs (the Monstrous legs option)?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, we have the same mission maps just with different textures. Not all of the enemies are different. I'd like a little diversity in character looks as well.

How exactly does it hurt your gaming experience if you don't have a superhero with digitigrade legs (the Monstrous legs option)? You haven't had one with those for the past year and yet you seem to have gotten along just fine.

    Just askin'.
  12. That's disappointing.

I think villains should have some options solely for them, and the same for heroes.

If all options are available to both sides, and eventually you can swap sides so all ATs will be on both sides, what makes them different? Nothing. It'll just be one big city of...sameness.

    Poop.

  13. I'm posting here but this could have gone in the archery thread too. I'm not exactly sure which powers are of concern here.

I have a TA/A defender. I took Entangling Arrow as my first primary power and Snap Shot as my first secondary. At level 2 I took Aimed Shot.

I noticed that if I used Entangling Arrow and was pretty far from the mob, they didn't try to attack me at all. Normally when held they pull out a pistol or shotgun and fight back. I don't know if the cause is that the archery powers are allowing me to fight so far away, or if this is as intended, but somehow I doubt that's the case. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I know it doesn't fit into the risk vs. reward scheme. Granted my defender is only level 4 now, but I've had very little risk of dying so far. Much less at these levels than any other AT/powersets I've tried so far.

I found this mob behavior both in missions and on the street, but moreso on the street. In missions most of the mobs fought back.

Also, when I pull out my bow, I hear the same sound effect as when a blaster pulls out their super soaker. It's a clicky, ratchety sound. I kept thinking a mob was taking aim at me, but then I realized it was my defender making the noise. IMO, it doesn't fit with the power set.
  14. Bearing in mind that things are always subject to change, the CoV site says the following:

So you’re saying that there will be lairs and bases?
Yes, in City of Villains all villain characters will be able to create custom designed lairs and bases with an extremely high amount of detail, rivaling that of the character creation for which City of Heroes is well known. The base-building feature from City of Villains will also carry over to City of Heroes members who have active COH subscriptions, enabling them to also construct hero bases.

Is this just an expansion to City of Heroes?
City of Villains is a stand-alone title, not an expansion. It may be played without City of Heroes, but there are clear advantages to owning and playing both. If a player only has City of Villains, he/she may only play a villain, not a hero. Also, if players want to build a base for their Hero characters and take part in PvP adventures (outside of the Arenas) they’ll need to get City of Villains.

According to those answers it sounds like you'll need CoV to build a hero base in CoH, even if you don't want to play a villain. It doesn't mention anything about having to level a villain up to be able to build a hero base.

I imagine it's just going to unlock that feature in CoH once you install CoV, and bases get patched in. (I don't think they will be in at launch). There will probably be requirements, like your hero having to be a certain level, and/or needing a certain amount of influence, but I can't imagine why you'd need to play a villain to get a hero base.

I've noticed sometimes Galaxy City is the first choice when finishing up outbreak....is it not random, or based on current population?

I usually pick based on when I feel in the mood for something different....I now find the Galaxy city mission travel times slightly shorter, so I go there more often.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've rolled up a lot of alts, and yeah it does alternate. I never could figure out if there was a pattern to it. (Not that I tried all that hard)

I pick Galaxy every time. I chose AP once, I forget why...maybe to meet someone there that had rolled up an alt, but it would have never been my first choice if it wasn't for that.

(This was a really hard decision. I couldn't decide between this or a very patriotic costume on an old character. But, my kids voted for this, and I think they're right...it's more current.)
  17. D'oh! No one brought in the mail, I had it all the time.

After reading it I stand by my first impression: I like it. I like these graphics much better. I don't think the story sucks, and I don't feel the story has to fit what we can do, or see, in the game. Personally, I think that would be boring.

I wonder if Synapse is feeling the effects of suppression.

Statesman needs to be nerfed, God mode is not fun, where's the risk vs. reward?

Oh, and Statesman said a bad word.
  18. I liked the first new one, posted about it somewhere else.

I got the first issue in the beginning of June, which I thought was great because the other ones came somewhere around the 10th of the month. The first issue says June.

So...how is it some of you already have July's? I don't.
  19. The Blood of the Black Stream is an epic AT?

The Kheldians are an epic AT.

    Kheldians are called Khelds.

Blood of the Black Stream will be called Bloods.

Will the Crips be far behind?

The funniest part has to be Manticore and Sister Psyche discussing the meaning of Statesman's "soon".

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yeah, I liked that too.

But um..has anyone read the interview with Positron? What's he mean in question 5, where he says, "A lot of heroes find great strength by enhancing their powers after Hamidon is defeated, but I caution them... for we don't know exactly what the Devouring Earth's ultimate plan really is."

Hammi-O's? Caution them? Does that mean there will be changes to HOs? Will the DE take control of all you HO ho's?

States, how will this change affect 'go hunt 10 skuls' missions? Those are just as challenging as mission maps and often need teams too, but if we get defeated on a hunt mission, will we still get full debt?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've always found those missions easier, and more boring, than door missions.

On a street kill X mission you can go for greys or greens if you just want the mission out of the way. You choose the level you take on, pretty much. If I take on mobs that are higher than me, I kite them. Can't do that indoors. You also have more room to run if you have to, unlike in a door mission.

Not to mention that if you're soloing it and see a group of 8 mobs, but across the street see a group of 3...take the 3 since you're alone. I always go for the smaller groups on a solo outdoor mission. But if I'm soloing indoors, and there are 9 or 12 mobs in one spot, I have no choice but to risk it. And the only way out is running back to the exit which could be across a map of cavern tunnels, or a warehouse with crates that insist on jumping in my way.

States sorry to do it, but I got to use your own words against you. If you're going to halve debt, then it should be across the board. The ability to do missions solo varies by AT. Street sweeping was supposed to be there for the people who have problems soloing missions. It's supposed to give them something to do. Now you want to punish that behavior.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's what teams are for. And I could be wrong, but the premise of the game is to team and do missions. Guess they're just trying to get that back on track.
  24. NancY

    XP and I5

They're trying to get more people to do missions instead of street sweeping and herding.

This may be another incentive: Have a mission counter in the bio window like the badge thing. MTD (missions to date) or something, with the number completed next to it. Just entering and exiting a mission wouldn't count.

You know there's gotta be people that would like that just for bragging rights.

*Had to edit this to include the possible suggestion of some type of accolade for completing a certain amount of missions. If you could get +5 base end. or +5 base hp for every X missions completed, you'd see more people doing missions.
  25. Is it just me or is GC not working since the patch this morning?

I typed /chatbeta 1. It gave the message thank you for testing, etc.

But I had to reset what text got sent to my GC windows, and I see no text at all in them. Even if I send a message it doesn't show up. I tried rejoining the channels but get the message that I've already joined them.

    Is it broken?
