Quote:I'm gonna lose sleep over you not being in the game ritenao. Fix that, plz. I don't think it's too much to ask for.Yeah, see, it's like this: no one actually cares. Play here, or don't. No one is going to lose any sleep over it.
But seriously Westley, I don't care if you play Champion server or not - that's honesty. If you really want to look into Champion, create a char, get in some leveling, and perhaps join in on a couple of the server's channels. Get to know the people and then you'll see if we're your kind of server. As Champion is kind of awesome it won't change to serve your needs or wants in a server, so you'll figure out if you want to stick around or not fairly quickly. -
Quote:And of course, like I always do with you, if you aren't able to stay up late enough you'll receive general mocking from me and get a triple dose of the /fail and of the >> face. Do you really want that? I didn't think so.Okay, this time I will definitely be there. I'll set up a coffee IV drip or something to keep me up
I'll be coming, also. Unless I'm needed on something different, I can either bring my SS/fire brute or my sonic/pain corr, whichever of the two that'll be needed more of course. -
Quote:Actually, I've had this problem before after being on a few hours and BMT's been particularly active - the MOTD will disappear even with keeping a tab for just BMT alone. Granted, I could just relog and look at the MOTD if I had a question about it, but asking usually would be faster so I can understand why occasionally it's fine if people ask about what's going on. I'm not saying that it's understandable all the time, of course, I'm simply saying that asking someone to read the MOTD instead of answering their question might prove pointless in some instances.People have stated that they have issues with it being cut off after they have been on for hours. I don't think I've ever had this problem, and I'm always able to scroll up to read the MotD should I need to. Perhaps folks would benefit from managing their chats by using the tabs available.
Quote:I'm aware that there's a channel for it as I'm in it, and most o' the people are from BMT, as I know the people that created and moderate it. If they don't chose to use it, despite bein' in it already, that's simply laziness. And yes, I will moderate it, despite the fact that it's game-related. Just like I'll moderate farms for influence even though there's a badge for influence. It's not black and white.
I'm not trying to add to the drama by pointing out this; just trying to show things in a different way. How the channel is moderated isn't perfect and players will always make that point clear, but I still find it the best channel to be in when looking for groups on the server so it works for me. -
Quote:/agreedI think you're thinking about it too hard.
Let's all drop the pretenses that Champions United or BMT Redside are in existence for any other reason than someone getting upset on the playground and deciding to take their ball and go play somewhere else.
The best channel would be the one that has the most people, period. Every time a channel divides, for whatever reason, it reduces in effectiveness. It's simple math, folks.
Here's a sample shot of how the channel can work without being heavy-handed:
Last night there were folks that wanted to start up a Kickball match. They talked about it for at least ten minutes before they started, and answered several questions about it from a few new people. They got people to show up for it, and the whole thing was perfectly civil. No one complained "OMG pvp talk in BMT! That's not what this channel is for!" (never mind that there are pvp badges, which came up in conversation) No one complained that they couldn't find other teams because the channel was talking about PvP and drowning out their requests. Someone advertised a match, they talked it up for a bit to get interest, and then it stopped...all by itself. This happens every day. People can conduct civilized conversations all by themselves, even when the teacher is out of the classroom.
Let's try to do more of this.
I never really understood why PvP chatter was frowned upon in BMT. Sure, there's the risk that some players might start smack-talking but as long as it's cordial and civil PvP chatter should be allowed. I'd love to see more of it in BMT. -
Quote:I caught their show in Las Vegas, maybe around ten years ago. Loved it, but would probably appreciate it more than I did then. I'll hopefully see them again someday. You should definitely see them first chance you get.A friend of mine (now 2 I guess? :3) went to one of their shows in Berlin. He said it was awesome. I want to go see them, dunno when they're next in Switzerland.
What's really getting old is my internet at home not working. Fix it plz Arli, kthx.
And you know I'd fix your connection, but you're several thousand miles away. Fix that first and then we'll talk about your connection. -
Quote:I saw them in person once, good times.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Man_Group
I don't know who is in charge of this operation, but something is afoot.
Regarding everything else: loldrama. How much longer will this thread continue? Because at this point it's honestly getting kind of old. -
Quote:I witnessed the entire thing, and I'm sure the comments about your friend weren't meant as an insult. If anything, it actually spawned a discussion of the topic in team chat.Since I-3 I have been running on Protector. I finally branched out and leveled a scrapper to 50 and at the prompting of a friend, I decided to join the Hami Raid last night. I guess Protector spoiled me, because never before have I met more arrogant, ignorant players than I came across last night. Being a so called "leader" of a raid makes you no better than anyone else. Because someone chose to bring a toon that didn't match up with stereotypical builds should not prevent them from being able to join a team and participate in the raid. Yes, I stuck up for the player, after asking him some questions through tells. I'm just shocked that no one else did.
The player did find a team. The majority of players were great. The raid was successful. I just expected a whole lot more from players on a server like Champion. This isn't the Freedom server.
Of course though, how you interpret what happened and what actually did happen appears to be two different things entirely. But by no means does that suggest you should assume that everyone on Champion - or even most people playing champion - is arrogant and ignorant. It's an affront to me and others who didn't even get involved. And if by doing nothing is worse; so be it. But assumptions are just worse. It isn't fair to judge a server by simply one occasion.
If I were to go to Protector with a char and had something similar happen to me, would it be fair for me to judge the server as having a population that's mostly full of individuals that are arrogant and ignorant? By judging one server as much, it proves that:
A: I am arrogant enough to believe that one small selection of the server is adequate for judging the temperaments, opinions and playstyles of all members of the server.
B. I am ignorant enough to believe that someone saying something like "tanks are nearly useless without taunt" is a serious insult and for saying it, that person is arrogant and ignorant.
It's just an opinion of the Tanker archetype. Now, if you were to respond with something like this: "well oh master of the Hami...thats his only high level character on this server, so shut your pie hole", wouldn't that be a far greater offense than the person who initially spoke? I would think so.
Regarding the raid...
Enjoyed it - I initially was on a fire/kin but had switched to an ill/emp due to an emp shortage. I ended up getting a healing badge on that raid, but it was fun -
I'm mostly a Corruptor, Brute and Controller player, in that order. There aren't any other ATs I really enjoy besides the three. However, I've invested most of my time playing brutes while playing, and usually only ever one or two different brutes whereas it seems I spread my time equally amongst my controllers and corruptors.
From least important to most important, I'll list my brutes (all 50) and give a short explanation for each one:
Energy Melee/Super Reflexes: I originally created this character to be a primarily solo brute. I actually enjoyed energy melee and to a certain degree, super reflexes, but it's likely I'll never create a /SR brute ever again. Once this brute hit 50, I spent a minimal amount of time on her before I decided to delete her. I'm more of a run in and take aggro and herd kind of brute, /SR didn't suit my needs for that and while EN is a great melee set it didn't meet what I wanted to get out of a brute - although I may recreate an EN brute at one point or another in the future.
Electric Melee/Shield Defenses - This one was created just after SD was released. Using LR and then SC was ridiculously fun, but still...the combination seemed lacking to me. Don't get me wrong, both sets are great, especially when paired, but it didn't offer me what I had come to expect from brutes.
Dark Melee/Shield Defenses - After creating an EM/SD, I have no idea why I set out to create this character other than to give SD another chance, which I actually did enjoy playing. This character was mostly solo'd to 50, and soul drain was an immense help and the set performed beautifully. While I do enjoy DM more than I did EM, SD still left me something to be desired, so in the end I ultimately abandoned her, although she won't be deleted.
Dark Melee/Willpower - I love Dark Melee, I really do, and that much should be obvious. After getting my first brute to 50 I decided to bring up another one and see which one'd suit me more. This was when I had just gotten back to the game and WP was available. The set played well together; much better than I had expected. Again, this was a brute meant for soloing, and for attempting challenges. However the more time I spent on her the more I started to hate Willpower. To start with, it was mostly just the set; the extra regen/recov was nice but I had gotten used to the type of brute who could take hits without needing extra regen. And eventually, another reason why I started to dislike willpower was simply because of the aesthetics of the set. The glowing yellow-ish color didn't suit me, although I do appreciate power customization being available now for that fact.
Super Strength/Fire Aura - My latest 50 brute. I love SS, and after seeing some SS/Fire brutes in action I decided to jump on the bandwagon and level one up as it was.I love the set. It suits what I needed, and provided more than I wanted, although one aspect I miss not having is some sort of T9 click armor. That said though, it's high in damage and can serve a variety of needs for me in addition to being a more suitable brute for facing Hamidon.
Super Strength/Invulnerability - My first 50 brute, and one that I've played the most. While my SS/Fire is highly enjoyable and may be an eventual challenger to the spot, this one has still been my most reliable and the one most able to take hits. I've stuck through with it when Unyielding used to offer -defense and when the resist passives didn't offer secondary effects. It's still likely to be the brute I play the most for teaming purposes, although my SS/Fire is likely to take preference for solo play.
Overall, it's likely I'll get at least two or three more brutes up at one point. Although I've got a fair number of brutes I've created and leveled, it's still an AT I enjoy immensely and I've still got a few more powersets I'd like to pair together. -
I've got a brute with taunt, a pain corr and a kin. I'll be there, and I can bring what we need most at the time.

Quote:So, because I use Mids' it's likely that I have no imagination or am poor at math, according to you? And when I use it, I'm comparable to a monkey scratching my head, because it's as complicated to a primate as rocket science is to an average human being?I dont use pen & paper to make a build, I use the power set description, the individual powers info chart by pressing the "Info" button during creation, and I make my choices by reading from there. Its acctually a very simple thing, and no, I will not get off Mid's.
Mid's is for people who have no imagination, or are poor at math, or possibly both.
I find it funny that people have to sit down and chart out a character, or use Mid's for it, scratching there heads like monkies as if its Rocket Science.
What I like about this game, that Mid's does not tell you, is the fact that not a single combonation is a poor choice to play compaired to any others within any given AT.Thats why alot of people call Fire Armor, and other sets like it weak, because they dont know how to use it, and gosh darnit!Mid's says its bad, or another player does.
So Mid' can take a flying leap.
If you dont like how I talk about Mid's, simply stop listening. You complain about my comment/s on Mid's and ill tell you exactly how I feel about it.Its that simple.
I was not raised to use Diplomecy, or use Tact. They are utter wastes of Time for our society to keep using them.
I haven't insulted you, Fire_Minded, and I would appreciate that you wouldn't insult me in turn; we're all welcome to use tools for the game if it helps ourselves enjoy it further. You're welcome to your opinion of course, but if a player uses Mids' it does not transfer into them being lesser than you are. I have respec'd characters without any other aids, simply by going with memory and what I had learned about my character. But for precision, I prefer Mids', and I don't go with cookie cutter builds.
I'm not asking you to agree with me, but I am asking that you not insult others for using Mids' if it's what they prefer. Insulting others benefits no one. Additionally, I'm not sure where you heard this but Mids' is typically accurate. It doesn't "tell" a player which sets are best, it simply offers numeric values for each power. At least in my use of it, I've never noticed such a component, nor would I use it if such a thing existed - and the user isn't required to, regardless.
Going back on topic - another powerset I won't play is Willpower.
Don't get me wrong, it brings plenty to the table, but the extra regen and hit points also doesn't suit my playstyle. The Mez protection and resistance is admirable to other armor sets though, I can admit.
Other brute primaries I probably won't ever touch are claws, battle axe, dual blades and war mace. With my brutes I prefer running around taking hits, and doing things quickly. Weapon draw would interfere with that, for me. -
Quote:I'm sorry Fire_Minded, but I must disagree with you there. I feel a player who uses Mids' to help plan builds isn't any more likely to create a FotM build than the next; and even if they did it isn't our responsibility to tell them what they can and cannot play, and criticizing one for playing a FotM is just as pointless as trying to teach the sun not to rise....Thats why people who use Mids will most likly make a WP/SS Tanker, and slowly grind a mob, and eventually win, but when facing down a player using a better damaging build for a Tanker, all the sudden its a Scranker, and they arnt a Tank...
I use Mids' to help plan out my builds. It's more convenient than typing everything up and/or using pen and paper. And it saves builds for later use, when I want to tweak a build further. I have an SS/Invul brute that I play constantly. Not because it was a FotM (if it was at all, considering I created it when Invulnerability was "nerfed"), but because I had seen it in action and liked the possibilities it offered. I've since then gone through maybe 15-20 different builds on that character, some completely different than the one before it, but all varying at least slightly not only in power selection, but also with variety with slotting in sets. I slotted in sets that gave bonuses that covered areas I had problems with.
Please keep in mind that although FotM builds are common not all players who have such builds play poorly and even if they do, it isn't our money their spending, it's their own; so we shouldn't laugh at them or tell them how we feel they should play if they don't solicit advice, nor should we feel we're "better" at playing than they are. What works for one doesn't always work for another. Please don't knock Mids' for assumptions you may make while seeing players play FotM characters. Players have the right to play their characters however they'd like to, provided they don't break user agreement terms while doing so.
With that said, I've played Energy Blast and Super Reflexes, and won't go back to either. Energy Blast provides great mitigation, but doesn't suit my playstyle and is often inconvenient for the kind of teams I usually play, although it's ridiculously entertaining when I ran around Mercy blasting critters with Nova with my Energy/Therm corr.
With melee characters (not including stalkers in this example) I tend to herd groups together and prefer using a toggle that has some sort of aggro component over using taunt or attacking first. Super Reflexes is a great set, but not one that suits me with my playstyle, so after I first created a character with it I ultimately ended up deleting it, due to never playing it because of what I felt it lacked. -
Nearly 27th month vet:
Ardea - Energy/Therm corr (first 50): 470
Calixte - Ice Blast/Kinetics corr (second 50): 626
Naloc - SS/Invul brute: 1455
I've got a bunch of other chars I've played from time to time, I only consider Naloc my "main", per se... but the time is spread out. The number's about what I had expected -
I haven't been around much but I can show up for this.
I've got a brute with taunt or pain corruptor, whichever'll be needed more. -
I know that regardless of what happened, some of us on the taunting team still tried our best; we had no way of knowing things would ultimately end up as they did..
A few lessons were learned though, and we'll definitely do better next time. Thanks to all who showed up - was a nice go at it, regardless -
I'll be there with my brute on Saturday.
-
Redside is, admittably, not exactly crowded; but it often shows a better population on the weekends.
The server isn't dead; there's always someone else on no matter what time of day it is, although really, you'll find more online during evenings and weekends - anytime after 6pm EST is usually your best shot.
Champion's more of a community-centered server rather than a huge, huge population server. If you're looking for large amounts of players, Champion might not be for you. But if you want a community that's closer together, Champion might be a better bet. It really depends on your taste. -
I'm up for this - my global's @Arli, I'll have an Illusion/rad controller that'll be roughly 12ish for this named Nexadi.
I'm also west coast, so 7pm CST or later is great for me, sooner though I'd have problems - and only Fridays and Saturdays are questionable for me in terms of availability. -
As a direct result of having a fire/rad corr, I approve of this thread. +.83 points to Silas for a guide well done, -235,987 points for not having finished this guide sooner. Plz be more timely, no more procrastinating 4u!
But srsly, I <3 the guide, and shall refer to it when reworking my rad's build. -
I agree with Geni; we need to cut down on time needed to get everyone in the Abyss - BMT does well, but there're still many that don't have it and /broadcasting in Cap as well as Grandville would probably help.
I definitely appreciated how smooth the raid went, though - masterminds did well, assault teams did well, taunting team went well too - nice run guys. -
We'll need to know the model of the motherboard you've got - some intel processors may not be compatible with it.
-
Invincibility has a modifier included; enemies within range (up to ten) grant a +tohit and defense bonus, which might explain why the sound loop only happens when enemies are within range, and not while there aren't any enemies within range.
I have the same problem on my brute; when I turn on the toggle, there's no animation sound, but there definitely is when I run into an enemy...over and over.
Bugged it when I first noticed it two hours ago, and now I know if I want to play my Invul, I probably either want to run without Invincibility or turn off sound... I'm hoping it'll get fixed soon though, because I'd rather not have to choose for sanity's sake. >> -
I was on a lowbie brute over in Virtue earlier this week, just after i16 hit live.. I was level three, going toe to toe against some level four Snakes in Mercy, a "eh, why not?" sort of moment while heading to another mission. I got the lieutenant down to just a sliver of hp when this level one stalker comes up and gets a lucky shot in and kills him, and then runs on his way.
I only lost 1exp over it, but it annoyed me enough to one star the guy with a reason why, although I really shouldn't expect everyone to be courteous in the game. But for the most part, if I am looking to street sweep I'll normally go to areas that see little traffic. I play to relax and have fun, getting annoyed is counterproductive. >> -
It eventually fixed itself for me, too - restarted the patcher constantly and a fix eventually took.
Best of luck to anyone else who's dealing with the same issue. :/ -
I'm getting the same error. I'm guessing it's the patch that'll probably hit live later on today, but I don't like the idea of having to wait for 9+ hours before I'll be able to play, so I'm restarting the patcher constantly and verifying files every so often.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, but eh. -
Congrats Kahlan! And stop making me want to level up that mind dom too, you're being a bad influence.
