Rage is 80% damage buff that is still perma-able in addition it also buffs accuracy. so you need not slot accuracy in the attacks anymore leaveing you more slots to play with.
Also, my milage always seems better when i'm working with attacks that do knockdown as opposed to stun, mez, etc
knockdown they're not attacking you AND they're not superspeeding away either.
Energy Melee is heavy on Mez if i recall. Stone and Strength are heavy on Knockdown
add in the fact that Stone and Strength both have MUCH better AoE attacks (again with lots of knockdown ability and a a higher brawl index rating) and the sets begin to look a bit better.
oh yeah and one more thing. Energy Melee doesn't have a ranged attack. stone and SS both do. slow. but its there.
power isn't always measured in pure DPS. -

His one posted test involved using the broken version of Invincibility. He also completely glosses over the fact that when buffed, any AT can Tank, so what then is so special about Tanks?
[/ QUOTE ]
The goal of the game is to make sure there isn't an ideal team composition. So, yes, a Scrapper, with buffs, can tank, but not as well as a Tanker. Why? Because 1) a Tanker starts with higher resistances/defenses and 2) he has Punchvoke and thus can manage the aggro better.

go troll someplace else will ya?
these tanks here are trying to figure something out.
and yer not helping any.
go 'help' the blasters or something. -
loved the new background story.
the old news clipping really worked nicely.
one nit pick though: in the news clipping shouldn't it refer to Baumton, not Boomtown? just when it refers to the initial clock sightings.
might be just me though. -

A reply to Tom:
May I request also that if/when you run your tests, you get some of the not-so-great tanks as well.
The all-star line up going to test this might set the bar a bit too high for lower lights, like myself
[/ QUOTE ]
This put a smile on my face because it's one of the things that people bring up a lot, and did with the I5 tests.
Since we will be running comparison tests with the minimum differences between the runs, it won't make any real difference in how skilled the players are as long as they are all about the same skill level. It's almost impossible to assemble a team of less than stellar players because folks who don't read the boards and worry about things like this just don't go to the test server.
It looks like I'm going to aim for the 26th and/or 27th of November for the tests. Da5id, I'd like you to think about what parameters would make the best test--what level to run it at, which enemies, any limitations on the construction of the rest of the team. You're probably the biggest proponent of the hypothesis that we're trying to prove or disprove, so it is essential to have your input on this.
Any time you have an AT or powerset that can be replaced by ANY other and improve your team you have a problem.
Any time you have an AT or powerset that can replace ANY other and improve your team you have a problem.
If that isn't too long, it'd make a great .sig.

if you like Tom, I can run around like a Bananahead and try to screw it up. I'll still kill, but i'll also do my best tro scatter 'em -
hey Tom, count me in or whatever testing you're doing on test. either PM me here or send me a tell @MrYukon ingame if i'm on.
50 Dark/Psi defender

like i said: the MORE North/West you go the more the uberness increases, of course BC would be second only to the Yukon.

Foo is definetly uber.
it's a known scientific fact Canadians Pwn
little known fact. the most NW you go in Canada the more the Uberness increases -

Statesman thinks that tanking 33% of an 8-man spawn is satisfactory.
He thinks that tanking 100% of an 8-man spawn is too much.
He thinks that dropping to 33% of your hp while tanking an 8-man spawn of Carnies is a little more punishment than you should take, but acceptable.
[/ QUOTE ]
something about the math here bothers me ....
in order to tank an entire 8 person spawn you'd need at least 3 tanks per team? I wonder if two losses per mission would still be acceptable then?
this makes laugh for the same reason i laughed when i heard about the reduced debt cap.
a lower cap doesn't mean anything if you're always in debt regardless. -
[ QUOTE ]
As long as the Tanker can hold onto aggro so that his teammates are facing less than they'd normally face (i.e. 3 minions), then the team has an advantage. Namely, each teammate can quickly eliminate his opposition...and then come to the Tanker's aid at the end.
[/ QUOTE ]
so what you're saying is that a team should only be taking 3 even level minions at a time right? and the tank should barely be able to survive said 3 minions.
lovely.
[ QUOTE ]
I just played a Tanker with the following group (actually, at the request of a PM)...
Inv/Fire tanker (32, SKed to 49)
Level 50 Elec/Elec Blaster (it was his mission, set on Rugged)
Level 32 Peacebringer (SKed to 48 or so).
Level 48 MA/Inv scrapper
Level 50 Fire/Kin controller
Level 35 Earth/empathy controller (SKed up to 48)
Level 49 Energy/energy blaster
We faced the Carnival of Shadows. Typically, I'd start combat by Taunting any Strongmen in the spawn. I knew that I could handle their damage best. I'd usually catch some other minions and lts. I'd end up with a good 1/3 of the spawn focused on me, while the rest of my group disposed of the others. Whenever I saw a teammate enter the red, I'd either Taunt the mobs off them or hit the mobs to get their aggro.
End result? Well, no one was that familiar with their builds. The Controller was defeated by getting too close to another spawn. The Peacebringer carelessly tossed off attacks and ended up aggroing too much. After those two defeats, we settled down and functioned fine.
Admittedly, my own health dropped down to a 1/3 several times. I'd get a little concerned, but usually I had Dull Pain ready.
[/ QUOTE ]
ok and here you're saying we should run and hide from anything besides smashin/lethal damage and let the team fend for themselves.
oh and dull pain is required in our builds as well yes?
I know i'm reading way to deep.
however. so much for the brave and fierce legions of tankers.
enter the mediocre brutes.
perhaps we could rename the archtype Gelding or Whipping Boy so that its more in line with 'teh vizion'.
original responce was a string of vulgarities that would make a sailor attack me with a bar of soap for my mouth.
the politest responce i can think of for this is simply this:
Thank you for your responce Statesman. now i can delete my tanks guilt free to make room for more viable and fun characters. -
yeah right.
like anyone will actually admit to being too powerful in this nerf happy enviroment -

I went Dark/Fire for the Min/max greedy end [censored] in me.
i'll go SS/Invul for concept later and Stone/Stone probably as well. -
well ya you could do it the easy way sure Kali.
I was just recalling a quote from a dev about thewm wanting Heroes and Villians tobe identifiable on sight by costume alone.
can't find the quote though ...
crap ... thats twice this week i've crossed Kali's radar ... i must be doing something wrong .... -
with ED on the way i think Statesman was no longer able to 6 slot his delaying tactics with 'soon' enhancements. now for maximum effect he can only slot 2 soons, 2 in developments and 2 we're discussing it.

OK - here's the most likely outcome...

afterall, they want good/evil to obvious on sight (cause that always works in the movies) in the PvP zones.
'zomg look! a hero you can tell by the bland costume! geddem!'
'lookit 'em skulls on that sucker! It must be a Villian! It's Coming right for us!'
BLAM! -
kinda what i was getting at.
from what i've read/been told, towards the end everyone was getting slaughtered and porting to the hospitals so EVERYone started making their stands there using the hospital lobby as a rallying point..
which probably attracted more Rikti to the area -
yep.
Dev's at the command of impossibly high level opponents that will pwn us all.
then after they begin to feel guilty (that or the pr team beats them in to submission) they'll RP letting us turning the tide of battle.
but only after they've pushed us back to the only safe place left at all.

And, while Jack says now that PvP will always be optional, a little over a year ago he was saying no PvP.

FYI - I never, never, never said that there would be "no PvP." Never.

you realize in a triple negative, you're saying that you said there would never be any PvP. right jack?
I count the 4th never as a confirmation of statement.
but I'm nitpicking because I'm bored.

Wasn't it in the Prima Guide or something? I recall my SG talking about it back in the early days of CoH beta.

I tisn't in the Prima guide, but having bases has been something that the players have wanted and the devs have wanted to do since beta. The early design notes for the Faultline Dam Supergroup Trial are in the Prima guide.

At least they are usuing "original" art instead of simply recycling stuff from the game. One of the things I hate the most with CCG's is when they lift images directly from shows.
