I guess it's just me, but from the little I've seen of the cards the artwork is..

Worse than horrible.

I can do better than that with a box of crayons and a meat cleaver.

Saw some of the upcoming cards when I met David Nakayama....they will improve....and, I hear Xanatos helped

The most I've seen of CCGs on the whole is...

"worse than horrible"

...in fact, the art might be the only thing I'd like.

At least they are usuing "original" art instead of simply recycling stuff from the game. One of the things I hate the most with CCG's is when they lift images directly from shows.

I'd recommend Heresy, then. (Not to be confused with the Horus Heresy, which I gather has something-or-other to do with Warhammer 40K.) I never made sense of the rules, but apparently it wasn't that tricky of a game. The card size apparently made it physically hard to play.

The artwork though... the artwork was fantastic, with lots of stuff by Brom and Bradstreet, and the card size helped show off the quality of their work.

Quite a few of the card designs shown at Wizard World Boston were originals, and not lifted from the comics. Nakayama even said he had concepts for some of the cards hinself, then got Xanatos to create characters with the costume creator so he could have a visual to work with.

What, no links?

From what I've seen of the artwork, it all looks... like nothing, since I've seen none of the artwork.

Zeus - god of artwork

Hey guys,

I wasn't pleased with a lot of the art from the demo decks either. I can assure you that the art from the rest of the first set is much better. There are some truly outstanding pieces. We just started working on the second set and it will be even better!
On a side note, SokMunki, I worked on Heresy.

of the demo decks almost all the art is taken from the first 4 comics. I still think it looks nice though and for those who would like to see it I have a full text and image spoiler over at my City of Heroes CCG fansite Hero Vs. Villain in my online deck builder. I also have .png and .psd templates so you can take your screenshots from the game and create your own custom hero cards with it.

On a side note, I picked up the Battle for Prospero Battle Box (Two Warhammer 40k decks, Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines, in decorative plastic card boxes) from the Horus Heresy set a month or two ago. It's got some *good* art.

Guys,

The thing about the demo decks is that they went to press MONTHS before the base set. There was more than a little bit of rushing to get things ready for press, so a chunk of art from the comic (already made, didn't need to wait for artists) was used. Also, original art that normally would have been sent back for retouching or improvements had to be accepted simply due to time constraints so that the deck would be available to Gencon.

Which only proves my point that the original comic had rotten artwork.

heh, well I don't think anyone was arguing with you there Typically though AEG games have some of the best art in the CCG business. Take a look at some of their other CCG's like Warlord or Legend of the 5 Rings, some very nice art there. Also with Top Cow handeling the art chores for the most part I think it is safe to say that we will be getting some top quality stuff on these cards.
