I'm sorry to have to break this to you sir, but the prognosis isn't good.
The test for RV Down Syndrome was positive.
The test for Unique Butterfly Syndrome was sadly, also positive.
As a precaution we ran a few tests for rarer diseases.
You tested positive for Dahjmania, where the patient suffers from mass delusions that they know what they are talking about.
It would seem a you have the stage 3 of Mezmera's Syndrome, I'm sure you noticed the signs though. The constant whining about Psi/EM's in zones, claims of skill, ramblings of only being beaten (repeatedly) because of the build.
I don't know how to tell you this sir, our tests revealed a set of symptoms that have been previously unidentified and unnamed. Seeing as you are essentially patient 0 when it comes to this disease we have decided to name it SBanelexia (Because Crabs was already taken). Given that it is something so new and the symptoms so severe we can only hope you are in the late stages of it as it has gone unnoticed for quite some time.
Symptoms include : Blind Ignorance, mass paranoia about what is real and what isn't, mental regression, the belief that everyone is wrong but you, degrading motor skills and hand eye coordination, and finally complaining about builds and "skill" in Zone PvP, which in itself is the Playskool version of PvP. -
Quote:I suppose it shouldn't surprise me, but it still surprises me when people have no idea Scrappers and Brutes can solo AVs, much less solo them without temps and inspirations.
C'mon lets throw tankers onto that list too!
First is just a simple vs. Chimera
http://www.wegame.com/watch/firess-av-solo/
Second is much more fun.

If Ice/Rad/Power is back, what would you say the hopes for a Mind/Rad/Psi are?
I miss 3x Containment and TK that TK'ed. -
I was hoping mine would say "Carried the team, even when I wasn't there" :P
GG's to all out there, was a pretty fun set of matches. Especially the all blaster lineup (that we figured out takes 4 to work) -
I imagine well timed team TP's would really help when you get a bunch of Rikti Magus' using that ground based attack that saps your defense. At least one person per team should have it and yell "MAGUS WATCH OUT!" while TP'ing everyone straight up.

Steamy Mist/Arctic Fog Yeah you see most players take it, but few really appreciate just how much it really does in the form of an AoE Buff. Its like if they gave maneuvers more defense, stealth for everyone including caster, resistance to fire/cold/energy (30% Slotted!) and slow protection.
2 X tornadoes out with dmg procs in them hitting foes that have -KB from an AoE Immob (AKA X/Storm Controllers) Makes hotfeet look kinda slow for damage, but requires you to have the survivability to always lead with an AoE Immob (Or they will scatter everything)
Siphon Power, it gets redundant after you get Fulcrum Shift, but running around with a 50-75% damage buff all the time for yourself and anyone smart enough to play near you is pretty nice from 1-32. Also late game, great with FS to near completely damage sap an AV. Double stacked FS and triple stacked SP means they aren't hitting all that hard anymore. -
Might be better ways to do it but 46% S/L 44.3 % E/N 45% F/C 25.8% Psi

I'm still confused, if my spines/fire/fire can have a full ranged attack chain with 4 attacks and I'd have zero intention of ever melee'ing someone does that still count as a melee toon?
If so sign me up :

Experience : I have logged thousands of hours in the train station in RV or at the circles in SC watching the greatest, most skilled, most honorable warriors determine who is strongest. -
Stalker all the way. Widows can be very hard to kill but their damage is seldom threatening.
I have an EA stalker, outside of overload you might as well not have a secondary. In overload against psi blasters you might as well not have a secondary. If you can learn to survive on an EA stalker playing something like a WP will seem stupidly easy.
Any Primary will work really, a nod goes to Claws, Elec, and Spines.
Claws gets 72 second base Build up. Elec gets double crit thunder strike. Spines has impale which is a quicker finisher than sharks if someone is trying to steal your kill. -
Quote:I don't know why I'm taking time with this, but here goes. Teams run Emp + Psi/em's because it works. If your team is coordinated and works together it will get kills. Other options have been tried, other builds have been thrown in. dUmb still had its storm team in the freedom league (but still had 2 emps and 3 Psi/EM's)You run Psi/em with emp because every other ladder lineup has the same exact thing... I'm not really surprised that I haven't seen more rad/pain corrs taking the place of emps either.
Quote:
I never said not to run blasters. 2 to 3 competent blasters is enough to spike through most heals these days thanks to DR.
Quote:Mez supression is only a problem if you have both doms mezing the same target. I'm guessing you're refering to the school of 1,2,3 spike.
Quote:ATs DO play other rolls besides spikers. Hence why the 2 mind/Energy doms were a better investment than an emp and blaster for KB.
Quote:I wasn't telling anyone what not to play for competitive PvP I was saying if he wants to get better at PvP a psi/em is probably the worst to pickup basic pvp skills with.
Playing a blaster competitively...you'll learn to count to 3. Playing an emp or Corr, different skill set altogether. Much more challenging as well. (And you need to challenge yourself in this game, otherwise it gets painfully boring.) And you can move the skills you've learned playing a corr or defender to a blaster.
As someone who blasts and emps, if someone wanted to get into PvP and wanted to play offense? I'd never stick them on an emp to start. Start on a Psi/EM, then maybe progress to things like rad/psi or rad/son, some sort of dom, or a stalker.
Quote:I've never been a proponent of giving someone a tricycle to learn how to ride a bike. You want to teach someone to ride a bike, put them on a bike.
P.s. do you seriously only use Doms to setup for stalkers? Are you serious?
In conclusion, I've never been a proponent of trying to teach someone to ride a bicycle having only ever watched others ride it myself. -

GG guys -
A full support build is actually very viable, full healing build not so much.
I'd vote for Illusion/Empathy controller as full support. You make a few summons here and there, confuse or hold a foe then spend the rest of your time healing and buffing teammates.
You'll manage to help with aggro, crowd control, deal with pesky/dangerous foes, keep your teammates green and blue bars full save them from mez effects and pass out fort left and right like its going out of style. (Early on give it to tanks and melee folks, later on squishys who do a lot of damage) Just use it every time its up on someone different.
Trying to get into full support on the defender side of things is mostly a waste because teams won't need as many heals the more you progress. Controller has slightly lower mods but more than makes up for it with the utility provided. -
Spines/Fire/Fire (or MU) I'd say is probably number 1.
Elec/SD/Pyre (or MU) a close number two.
the Elec/SD has amazing burst if you are going from spawn to spawn just nuking them. The Spines/Fire has incredible sustained AoE damage. Your entire chain is an AOE and you have two damage auras running, the only problem is its too much damage with no strong source of taunt so mobs will be fleeing. (Breaks mob morale really quick)
If you'd want to test, probably find a static task. (Whether it be taking out a massive ambush or running around doing a council or battle maiden run) and see who is quicker. Having an Elec/SD/Pyre with 80-90% global recharge and seeing my Fire/SS/Pyre *tank* clear massive ambush maps quicker, I'd guess the Spines/Fire is going to win. -
There was the good and the bad. I remember having a DM/Regen and remember how awesome a HO'ed Regen was, but DM with so so at best. Siphon Life did little damage. MG hit hard but wasn't as front loaded. Soul Drain was definitely worse off. Perma MoG was fun until you ran into a psi mob. You had like what? 15-20% of your HP with no ability to gain any back, watch out for that fall damage!
Well built Regens could tank hami
Controllers had army of pets, grav's with 3 singies were perma holding AV's. Fire controllers were imp ranchers. Illusion really did bring a "Phantom Army" with 2 or 3 Phantasms, decoys and Phantom army.
5 Fire imps on a summon!2 Fire imps
Defenders were good up until level 32 or 38, then you pretty much wished you had rolled a controller. (No Sonic blast back then)
Tanks had no aggro cap, powers had no AoE cap. Herding hundreds of mobs together and melting them had its moments.
Blasters were truely glass cannons, with no ED and I *think* Aim/BU getting you closer to the damage cap you really did hit like a truck. I remember Aim/BU Total Focus with like 3 nucs and 3 damage SO's just wrecking bosses.
My energy blaster with 4 Centrioles in each attack and stacking boost range could snipe hami from the safe rock.
Hami O's that gave 50% enhancment to a stat.... mmmm that should really come back at least for HO's that only increase two stats. (Balance of course for schedule A/B and the like)
Blasters running around at 5% health 1 shotting everything. Blaster trying to run around at 5% health and dying all the time. Blasters trying to run around at 5% health, and getting healed before defiance could ever kick in.
Defense not scaling with foe level.
Heroic to Invincible = +0's to +3's and +4's but no way to set spawn size 0 - 8. Plus it costs you influence to change it.
Controllers not getting containment and being miserable to level from 1-32.
Controller epics doing blaster level damage, with containment.
Ice tanks, SR scrappers, DA Scrappers. You felt bad for people who played them.
Elude being a toggle that gave you only affecting self, but you were really hard to hit.
Perma tier 9's
Terrify and spectral terror being funny powers but teams would HATE you for using them... especially on defeat alls
Smoke Grenade > SR
DMG/Range HO's working in shadowmaul and head splitter... with no target cap and no ED. Sexeh.
I'm sure there were other things, but really the game is much better off now. -
Quote:I find this post relevant to my pvp interests. The whole concept of SR being overpowered is stupid. There are multiple sets that can soft cap defense. My shield scrapper build is soft capped to everything but Hami (nobody is softcapped to hami) and Recluse with the to-hit buff tower (Nobody is soft capped to Recluse with the to-hit buff tower). He also has Decent resists to complement the soft capped defense. Also, grant cover for the team. Super reflexes is easier to cap then most, which lets you devote slots to recharge, which lets you use your hard hitting attacks and do more damage. But it's still not overpowered. My shield has against all odds, which is probably better. SR has no taunt aura, so it's not helping the team in that regard. Also, you WILL get hit if you're fighting x8 group solo (Which many many MANY AT's can do). Therefore, if you're fighting a group that does defense debuff, I.E. Nictus in ITF, you will be taking alot of damage, and probably dying, which my SR does sometimes on that TF. A few purples compensates sure, but as I've been saying multiple times, such is the case for many AT's. My dm/sr scrapper rules, and it's one of those sets that has had less experienced players oohing and aahhing at in task forces, but I've seen better.

Quote:The only thing I can add is that Psi/Em is not the best "zone" blaster. Its the best Arena blaster. If you are going for zones, Fire or Sonic/EM work really well and I don't think you have much to worry about in the way of nerfs on either of those. For the most part I'm interested in playing in RV, but other types of PVP sound fun too.
Given the advice I've gotten at this point I'm going to resort to making a new toon. I'm hesitant to make a psi/em because psi is relatively new to blasters and I'm worried the devs will get mad about how good it is and nerf it, thus making all the time I put into it a waste. I'd be willing to try anything else that works well. Thanks to all the people who've offered advice so far. If anyone has anything else to add, I'd appreciate it. -
The emp could work, the EM/EA stalker could work. I have an Elec/EA and it basically teaches you to play stupidly defensive as you pretty much have no secondary what so ever, especially against psi blasters. If you can learn to AS and get away on an EA stalker, playing a WP stalker will be a cake walk.
As for toons to look into building, a Mind/Fire or Earth/Fire Dom can be nice. Since you don't want a Psi/EM a Fire or Sonic can work just as well. Especially in zones.
I've heard PB's can do alright but I've never seen a decent one who would actually get some kills. They might be out there, just never seen them do well.
As for what Galactor said about trying them all out, don't waste your time. People have already done that for you and other posters have let you know what can be decent and what to just avoid. -
I was wondering why the recharge on sleet seemed screwed up at times. Definitely seen this bug, makes sense now as it would happen after using hibernate.

Quote:I wish I knew why everyone thinks a Psi/EM plays so much different than any other decent blaster primary in zones?regens are easymode. its like psi/em blaster- you only need half a brain to pilot one. if you try another secondary and actually make it worth something, you will be much more noticed than the rest of the regen tards
