  1. I played through the whole of the Praetoria content twice, choosing...er, some paths or other, (generally the 'trying to be a good person' ways) back when it was released, and now i can't remember it being much different to CoH progress in general lol. The end result was I got 2 lvl 20 Praetorian origin heroes in Paragon City.

  2. Right., so I'll tell the f2players that $5 gets them tells, trade, email and into SGs, and $45 gets them broadcast and globals. That's simple enough

  3. I do, whenever I can, but honestly, today it was scrolling so fast, that when i scrolled up to find the person who had asked a question, by the time I scrolled back down to the bottom, a large amount of text had been enttered, and basically it was impossible to keep abreast of the actual help-requests.

  4. Help is more and more becoming impossible to use as a Help channel. Today it degenerated into first a rapid-scrolling rantfest about CoD vs Halo and Battlefield, and then morphed into a 'God Exists/doesn't exist' shouting match. Amid all the crud were people asking legitimate questions about the game, but the channel was scrolling so fast I'm sure my attempts to answer were lost in the mess.

Can't the freebs get a global chat channel? Call it 'f2p chat' or something, and then the help channel might be actually useful again.

I know we don't want gold-sellers spamming chat, but they can already do that with help, can't they? What would the difference be?

  5. SCotty, Where did you get those screenshots from?

  6. It's describing everything in tokens which is so confusing IMO.

Can you just buy tokens? or do you have to spend money on other things, and the tokens awarded are a by-product?

    Eco.

EDIT Not you guys being confusing, I meant the system.
  7. I've been trying to encourage f2players to go premium in order to get access to better stuff, using 'One-time purchase of just 5$ gets you Premium forever!', which strikes me as a pretty good deal.

I'm quite confused by the paragonwiki pages for Rewards and Premium players, however.

What does a F2Player who spends 5$ get? Which tier does he start as at premium. I thought Tier 2. How much is the minimum outlay to get access to broadcast?

  8. I'm in Poland, and I've not really noticed much downside to being an EU player, tbh. One afternoon last week I logged in to find i had to wait an hour for maintenence to end, but that's about it. When there's extended maintenece, I don't think 'Oh, those sneaky Americans aren't experiencing this!', since people play at all hours, I know. I'm sure there are night workers out there who are used to playing from 3-6am in the States who are sometimes 'aaargh, sderver maint!'. The servers are down for the same amount of time for everyone.

I personally don't need to enter the ciompetitions either.

  9. Yay! Nice to see someone thinking good of Freedom server. I'm there too.

I don't know if you're already in any channels., but i recommend joining a few channels and saying hi. The two i use the most are TheMarket and MA Arc Finder. TheMarket channel is fulkl of wise and helpful people who have helped me immensely with things like slotting and my builds, and also of course Market advice, and the MA Arc Finder channel is primarily aimed at pplayers who like to play and make story arcs in the Mission Architect, although some chat on other topics does go on.

You can add channels through the 'add channel' function of the chat bar.

  10. Well, I'm up to 45.51 mph now, at lvl 21. My powers are possibly feeling the lack of enhancements such as damage, accuracy etc lol, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the variety of places I can slot things that boost my running speed.

    Onward!

Nope, you have a Dual Pistols Corruptor.

Except that it isn't a Scrapper, it is a Corruptor, so those that have been wanting to play a pistol scrapper still can't play one.

    It's a Corruptor, not a Scrapper.

    The flaws are still there.
I bet you tell kids there's no such thing as Santa Claus, too.

Power to you, OP. You get what the game's about.

Now, it's like they've overcompensated and made it completely inconsequential.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not for needlessly irritating people with arbitrary penalties, but the fact is that when there's no death penalty, most people completely stop caring about dying and it encourages people to just run roughshod into any battle mashing buttons with zero thought or planning. I don't think that City of Heroes should strive to be a chess match or battle simulation, but I don't really like the thought of it being a glorified Track & Field, either.
The fact that you felt you had to link to an explanation of Track & Field makes me feel old

I killed my 48k Spectrum playing one of those games on it lol.

I know there are plenty of threads for reviewing, and a few SG request foir arc threads.
Someone write a '2012 Olympics, London, vs Euro 2012, Poland/Ukraine' arc!

No idea how that would work lol.

  14. I hadn't thought of the Piston Boots; maybe they could work. I also got some nice advuce on frankenslotting for Movement and Run Speed Set Bonuses from the ever-wise folks in the Market channel.

Fantastic! These, plus the 3-slotted Sprint and Swift should get me fast enough, hopefully

  16. I haven't played STJ live yet - I'm going to get it, but i'm waiting till my 'free' VIP points can cover it (Ta-daaa! How to get 'paid for' powersets without spending any more than my old sub!), but I remember it being great fun in Beta.

I also haven't seen any other 'STJ is Rubbish!' threads or even much anti-STJ sentiment in this thread.

Is it possibly the case that Shubbie is not speaking for the majority here?

  18. Hi.

I'm having a tricky time deciding on a travel power for my newest toon, Philomena Kelvin. She's a Time Manipulation/Ice Blast Defender. She's Lord Kelvin's granddaughter, and she's gotten her powers by inventing a potion in her lab.

Initially, I wanted Superspeed, with the Radiant path Auroa coloured appropriately for an icy effect. When she sprints, this looks great, but with Superspeed's horrible sparkly red foot glow, it just looks wrong.

Then I thought that maybe I could give her teleport, and concept wise, it would work like this: She stops Time, and runs to where she wants to be, and then starts Time up again. I quite like this idea, tbh, but she can't run on air, of course, so I'd need to always make sure the teleport pointer was on the ground. This is a bit tricky, I've found, and in addition, Teleport's auto-hover always kicks in and it doesn't quite look right when she comes out of the 'port. That's not so problemtaic, though; I can RP that starting and stopping Time requires an exertive stretch or half jump or sth I guess.

Giving her Hover would of course eliminate any conceptual problems with TP altogether, but the only Steampunky costume pieces that fit are the Victorian Wings. They look awesome, but I don't want her to have them all the time. Some victorian stempunk rocket boots would be brilliant for this, but we don't have them. Possibly I could use some sort of keybind combination that would get her wings out first (costume change) and then activate teleport?

I keep coming back to Superspeed, and I was wondering if anyone knew what sort of numbers I'd get if i went with just Sprint and Swift and tried some sort of weird frankenslotting for them? I'd be happy with a ground speed that was close to Ninja Run (I don't want the riunning and stance animations that come with ninja Run or i'd stick with that).

Any advice on how to get her running speed up would be welcomed, and any other ideas at all would be great.

ITs inferior to SS in both single and aoe damage.

The set was changed from the time it came off beta but before live, and did not go back on test.

This feels rather bait and switch, even though it wasnt nerfed live.

To move onto a general point, will we be able to get refunds on sets, powers, etc that we feel disappointed with.

There was no way to view the real stats before purchasing, so again I feel this was a somewhat deceptive.

I am EXTREMELY unhappy with this.
I've hated Spines since I first started playing. I wasn't given the opportunity to see Spines in action before I started playing. Can I get a refund of part of my sub for the last 6+ years, please?

  21. I wondered how much a costume slot cost in the store, and was a bit taken aback to find it was (on sale) at 600 points. I was like 'HOW much??!'. Then when I worked it out at around 8 dollars, my reaction changed to 'oh, that's not a lot, really'.

If they'd have made 1 dollar equal to 1 point, I wouldn't have been initially unimpressed. 600 ppints sounds like a lot more than 8 dollars to me.

    Help Channel

Since Freedom's launch, the Help channel has exploded, really, and I tjink that the kind of stuff we see in it gives good insight into how Freedom has worked so far:

Loads more players trying out the game. This is good.
Loads of helpful vets happy to give advice, answer questions, help new players out. This is also good.

New players have LOTS of questions about stuff that they should have grasped from the game. Level 8 players asking 'where do I get Power Pools?', talking about 'quests' and 'skills', and worst of all, seemingly unaware that anything more than the DFB trial exists for low levels.

It looks to me that new players are not learning much from the 'tutorial' or Twinshot's arc because the 'tutorial' is terrible and they're missing Twinshot because of two things: they're getting sucked into grinding the DFB arc, and even if they do try to do tje ongoingbtutorial content, when Twinshot sends them to KR to speak to Blue Steel, wjen they get there they're directed to The Detective Becktree instead and end up grinding radio missions.

Help is also fast becoming a general 'lfg' channel, I've noticed. I've used it for this myself, when trying to form a lowbie group, since after broadcasting in Atlas and getting 3 or 4 responses, I know that the f2p newbies I'm hoping to team with (both to help them out with anything they need and because it's fun) can't respond save for in Help, if they're not near me at the time.

There are already vague opposing camps of 'Help is only for help' and 'it's a chat channel' players. It would be a shame to see Help adfing to divisiveness among the playerbase.

Overall, I'm happy to see Help being so busy, I think; it means our game is being played, at least.
