Perhaps if you calmed down and wrote a well-reasoned letter to the Devs and had your affected friends do the same, you might get a better response. Ranting and name-calling isn't the best option for accomplishing change, especially when it's done in an emotional state and in writing.

Quote:Agreed!I haven't noticed that, but I did notoce that the servers were showing the costumes that the character was last wearing istead of the costume slot 0. Very nice change IMO.
And I've had to enter my password each time, even when I switch characters instead of doing a complete quit. Did you change anything else on your computer recently? -
Quote:Your caveat is my Standard Operating Procedure. I go the IO route as soon as I can. I start low-ball bidding on level 15 IOs ASAP - several levels before I can even use them. I always check the crafting prices Vs the market price and compare. If crafting is cheaper, I'll do that. If I do it without twinking I sometimes have some holes filled by non-IOs or even just empty, but sometimes that's less about influence/supply than it is about my being too lazy/busy/character swappy to go to the market. I very nearly always do it without twinking simply because I don't care enough and am too lazy to worry about it. Influence falls on my characters like rain in Seattle, but I would rather be patient and wait a night or two than spend my playing time transferring it back and forth. The one thing I will nearly always transfer influence for is a knock back resistance IO. Otherwise, I don't worry about it.My initial reaction to this post was 'it's cheaper to buy DO's twice then to craft level 15 IO's once'. I decided to test my gut feeling before posting, however.
It costs 286,500 to purchase all DO's at 12th and 18th. I used 10 Acc, 5 damage, 5 end reduction as a base.
It costs 139,100 to purchase the same number of level 15 IO recipes. With the exception on Luck Charms(current going rate 50k) Only Spell Scrolls are a bit expensive....perhaps 15k for five of them if you're patient.
Lets say you've been lucky, and have found five Luck Charms. You are even more lucky, and manage to purchase five more at 25,000 each. That's 125,000, plus 139,100, plus 15,000(for the Spell Scrolls), plus a couple of grand more for the rest of the salvage.....This isn't even taking into account the crafting cost, plus the amount of time invested in crafting all of these IOs. For my money and time, I'll continue to purchase DOs at levels 12 and 18. It's easy, cheap, and far less time consuming.
One caveat...I frequently put up lowball bids on level 15 IOs when making an alt....sometimes I get some...other times I don't.... -
Quote:Sorry, but this doesn't make any sense to me. At only 5" tall, I have to have very nearly every pair of pants and all the skirts I buy go through a tailor. If you're willing to pay more, a good tailor will even cut the hem off your jeans and then sew it back on at the proper length so that the hem looks original. Since I take so many things in, I don't bother with that because I think it's a stupid thing to spend additional money on.I've seen dozens if not hundreds of pairs of tailor-altered jeans, and they never, ever, ever look right. Granted most of the pairs I've seen had been altered only in length, and you'd be going for width.
A good tailor or sewing classes/equipment are essential for anyone who doesn't fit the cookie cutter sizes stores sell. -
Quote:What Sam said.I disagree with the spirit of this thread. The Star Wars prequels sucked because of BAD WRITING, not because of excessive effects. Really, this Luddite notion that effects somehow take away from the "spirit" of a film is something that has always bugged me as a concept, and I see it said by "old school" directors in pretty much every documentary on movie history I watch. So, what, does that mean that animated and 3D movies are inherently inferior? Animation Age Ghetto, anyone? A good movie does NOT require real actors speaking to each other in front of REAL sets. As something like Wall E demonstrated, you barely require actors at all. JUST effects, be they many or few, take away nothing from a movie. If a movie is written well, it will ALWAYS be better with more effects. If a movie is written poorly, it's going to suck no matter how much money you chuck at it.
This carries over to this game, as well. Who CARES why a certain power looks the way it does? Who cares if it makes sense? When people without mouths spit fire, does it matter if it's green, blue or black? When can take a rocket to the chest and not even stagger, does it matter if they glow red, blue or pink? The Rule of Cool applies - as long as something looks cool enough, it doesn't matter if it makes sense or not. Sure, it's nice to have a neat and tidy explanation, but at the end of the day, those are still just making things up. My fire is blue because it's actually a manifestation of the power of destruction. So why blue, then, and not red or black? Because blue looks cool, ultimately.
I really, REALLY want to avoid trying to chastise people and corral them into only using certain concepts because they make sense or look good to me. In my experience, some of the best works of art and fiction are those who take the worst, most absurd, most ridiculous concepts and make them work and be cool. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, anyone? Who CARES if it's stupid and doesn't make sense? IT WORKS! In fact, it worked twice over.
To make a long story short, I find artistic license to be the most important thing, and something which shouldn't be limited by notions of what things SHOULD be, but only by the reality of what can be made.
RP is cool. Being a self-righteous RP'er telling everyone else what to do based on what you think is okay? Not so much. -
Finding a team is like dating. Stop acting like a fairy princess waiting for a prince to propose and go out and ask some people out yourself.
-
I don't know about the chance or the percentage, but I saw one on Justice the day after I16 went live. I haven't seen one since the patch last week, but I'll keep ana eye out next time I'm on.

Quote:That's not strange. We all find different things interesting. Millions of people think WoW is superduperawesomesauce; I didn't think it was all that great. The author didn't find CoH interesting after level 20. We can all think the game is great after 20, but it doesn't matter. We all have our own opinions and the right to them - this person just happens to work for a magazine and gets his opinions published.Just got this months PCGamer delivered and there a full page article on city of heroes at the very back (there's also a 3 page CO review earlier on).
The article is a bit strange, it says that the game is great but after level 20 there's nothing to keep the interest going.
Write a letter to the editor and see if you can get your opinion published, too. -
Seriously!
A big thank you to Arwen for putting this all together and to everyone who showed up! Despite the Swiss weirdness, I think it was a great event and I had a lot of fun. -
-
Hey, that's really beautiful. I love the feeling of using something I made myself. And now whenever you sit down at that desk, you'll get to remember the summer you and your dad spent working on it together.

Ha! I just noticed the Yoyodyne Propulsion tag. Nod to you, World Watch One tagger.
I used to have a Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems Test Vehicle bumpersticker on my old red Honda Prelude. I actually had people stop me in parking lots and ask me what kind of test vehicle it was, like if it was an alternate fuel source, rocket car, etc. Hilarious! -
Quote:I'm guessing it's because they finally figured out who was inviting them.Has anyone else seen this "snobbery"? Anyone have any clue where it's come from? Because I'd never seen it before I16.
I don't know; I play 50's and exemplar more often than not. Logging in on a level 50 character, there's not much I can't do and I don't need a plan. I can run any Task Force or trial and keep up with people, I can SK others, etc etc. If I log in on a lower level character and don't have any idea what I want to do, I may not find a team my level or might not find a team I can keep up with. (While I can SK to someone of a much higher level, being on a level 35 team when I don't have Stamina or an alternate way to control endurance usage or don't have a strong travel power or don't want to use up my temp travel power make me feel like I'm not pulling my weight and I don't like to do it. Likewise, I don't want to SK someone of a much lower level.
It's like age and dating. If you're 14, a 6 year difference in age is a big deal. If you're 35, 6 years might not make much difference.
I do think it's more fun to play with all my high level powers and I hate losing them, but the right team makes all the difference. I really don't care which powers I do or don't have when I'm playing with a great team and having lots of fun.
Sounds to me like it's just the EotM - Excuse of the Month. People think it's unacceptable just to say, "No, thank you" so they rattle of a "socially acceptable" excuse. Some people might do it because others really do make you feel like it's unacceptable to say no. (Seriously, if I say I don't want to be on your team, why would you try to bully me into it? Do you really think that will suddenly make me want to spend time with you? Likewise, don't spend your time trying to talk me into it. That just makes you sound desperate and why would I want to hang out with someone desperate? Have some self-respect!)
If you don't want to be on my team, you don't need excuses or reasons; a polite no is all that's needed. -
Quote:If powers were chosen later than earlier, it's probably for a good reason, like that's when the person wanted them. Why on earth would anyone go through a respec just to exemplar? Not to be argumentative, but if you built your character for playing at L50 and, as you say, certain powers were chosen later as opposed to earlier, then why not build them so that they are more exemplared-friendly?
If you get set IOs for 50, you won't have the bonuses, but with the extra slotting in those powers, in relation to those players on the team you're exemp'd to, will be far greater than theirs.
I understand not wanting to exemplar, but to say that travel powers or Stamina is chosen later as a factor isn't really all that valid of an excuse. That's an easy fix in a respec.
I build my characters with exemplaring in mind because I do a lot of it. With all the new temp travel powers, I could take an actual travel power much later in the game if I wanted, but I don't because it's a pain in the *** when I exemplar. I build for the way I play OFTEN, not the way I might play every one in a rare while. If this person doesn't care to exemplar often, why should he respec his character just to do someone he hardly ever does? It doesn't make any sense. Sure, he could also use an alternate build, but why spend the effort to get enhancements or waste a secondary build on something that he's not going to do often?
If I had a character where I did choose a travel power or Stamina later and it was a problem in low levels but I rarely exemplared, there's no way I'd rebuild just for that purpose. I'd either exemplar on other characters or not do it at all. -
So many people here have gone out of their way, spent their time, or went to considerable effort to make sure that the rest of us are having a good time. I wanted to take a moment to thank them.
Katfood - For running an amazing supergroup that's exceptionally drama-free and doing all she can to make sure that everyone who wants a team has one. If you're in the Tempest-Legion and you can't get on a team, it's because you're not trying. Katfood has quit great teams to start new ones because someone needed a team and has given up her own place on a team for others. Everything is taken care of and she makes it look effortless. Since I know it absolutely isn't, I appreciate what she does all the more. She's a natural leader and takes on a leadership role when she sees a need, even when sometimes I'd sure she was hoping someone else would step up so she could just have a good time and not worry about being the one who has to come up with a plan and explain it to everyone.
Any Supergroup leader who's managed to have a group with more than him/herself for more than a few months - Being a good supergroup leader is like a second job you don't get paid for. It's a big responsibility requiring you to play many roles: friend, manager, parent, teammate. You do it because you want to and you give so much to others. Much respect and appreciation to all the good SG leaders out there.
Darkbridger - The Saturday Matinée has been going strong for years now. When LHF left, Darkbridger took up the challenge and we've had more people than ever show up. He mixes it up with some double-features and new challenges, finds substitutes when he knows he won't be around, and has even gotten everything set up and kicked off when he couldn't stay or given up his space on the team because someone else wanted in. He goes out of his way to make sure anyone who wants to be is included.
Raid Leaders - I don't attend raids so I won't name anyone because I would leave so many out. But even though I don't attend raids, I know how much they have done for the community. I think Justice has one of the strongest communities of any server and it's also had the reputation of being the server that had the most/most successful raids. I don't think it's a coincidence. There are people I've never met in the game but I've heard of because of their raiding activity. So thank you to all of the leaders who work so hard to pull things off so that everyone can feel successful, included, and have a great time. A special shout out to all the female raid leaders who made names for themselves in a world where some people think that everyone they see is actually some loser guy in his mom's basement and that girls don't play games.
Tic-Toc - I know a lot of people who love this game or talk a lot about how much they love the game, but I don't think I know of anyone who loves it as much as Tic-Toc. What he's done for this community is impressive, especially given the fact that he could give us all gold bars and half of us would find some reason that action made him a power-tripping poopiehead. And yet he continues to give to the community and do things that help others out, even after that. Tic doesn't need to talk about how much he loves the game; it shows in everything he does. He and I have often disagreed and we're not best buddies, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for the man. Love him or hate him, he's left an indelible mark on Justice and we've all benefited from it in some way, even if we don't all realize it or can't admit it.
Talia - For keeping up a forum game I've actually enjoyed and for checking in with me every time I logged in after my surgery and all her random hellos.
Red Gren - Last year he put together an amazing dinner for people going to Hero Con. It was so successful that people who'd never played on Justice heard about it and asked to be included. But even more amazing, he's doing it again this year! It's very possible he's crazy. I guess that's why he calls Justice home - and I'm very glad he does.
There are many others who've made me laugh, been on great teams with me, taught me something, or just reminded me why I log in as often as I do and why I'm still playing a game I bought 5 years ago thinking I'd give up after the first 30 days because I thought paying to play a game every month was silly. Some have gone, many are still here and I'm glad. Thank you, all of you.
I hope anyone else who wants to say thank you to someone will feel free to add to this. -
That'd be my guess, as well. I'm sure they'll fix it when they get around to it, but as Fleeting mentioned, this wouldn't be number 1 on the priority list.

Quote:I think this is exactly right. When something is differnt from the norm, more explanation is definitely required to get people in the right frame of mind. It's all about expectations and in a game where most things are the "same old, same old," something different needs to alert players that they should expect something different. I'm afraid this isn't something the Devs excel at. The "Stop 50 Fir Bolg" mission is a classic example. The idea is neat and it's something different, but the mission objective is not clearly written and it's very confusing. I've given up counting how many times I've been on teams where someone has said, "But we've already stopped at least 50 - why isn't it over?!?!" That's one of the most frustrating missions in the game and it doesn't need to be. If the mission objectives were more clearly explained, I think people would dislike it far less.I'm fine with missions that require puzzle solving and exploring, but for many players this is the first mission that really requires much of either, and absolutely nothing is offered in the briefing to indicate that this mission is any different from the hundreds of others that have come before. Don't change the rules without telling the player. A puzzle is much more fun if you know you're trying to solve one.
All this mission needs is some direction about needing to "find the hidden entrance to the tunnel system in the Arachnos base..." or something similar. That alone would make this much easier to deal with for most people. -
Quote:Thanks, I'll edit my post! What a strange thing to change. The command to 'talk' in the Help Channel has changed. You can only do it with the /hc command.
/hc I can't find a mission door in Faultline. The waypoint point underground and I don't see any way to get there. -
Oh, how I wish other games had that command.
You can also try /sync if you're find yourself rubberbanding/returning to the same spot over and over. If you have a self-teleport power, you can try that or have a friend teleport you. Finally, if nothing else has worked, you can file a petition for a GM to come help you.
This game has many options to get us out of holes and I really appreciate it! -
It's not just about finding the busiest server, but about finding servers with people who are on at the same time you are. That may not be the same thing as "most populated server."
There are servers with global chat channels for people who play in the off hours. I know we have one on my server. I'd include the channel name, but frankly, I don't want the OP on my server. -
Quote:Because the "half you the time you play it" isn't a fact, it's a subjective opinion. I play my level 50 characters far more often than I play anything I'm leveling up. I run task forces every weekend and sometimes on weeknights and I nearly always bring a 50 because then I don't need to worry about what level the TF gives XP for. My Dark/Dark Brute was no fun to solo and kinda fun to team with until she got SOs and Stamina. (This was long before IOs were added to the game.) She was lots more fun after that and I still play her. This brings up something I often think about..
Why would someone play a character that sucks at low levels? Is its high-level play seriously THAT MUCH more fun than a character isn't a painful exercise in self-hatred to get up there? Why would anyone want to subject themselves to a build that you hate for half the time that you play it?
Levels 1-22 aren't "Half the time you play" for any of my characters. Levels 1-22 are barely a memory and whatever happened then was absolutely worth getting through to make it to the higher levels and have even more fun. -
Welcome to Justice. Justice has a strong community with some really helpful and popular global channels, like JFA2010 (JFA = Justice For All, which has been filled up and required several "moves" to open up spaces for new players that they recently had to add a year to designate which version they're on.)
I'd encourage you to join JFA2010 and some of the other Justice channels (I can't remember the name of the Chrome Family channel) to meet some people you'll be able to team up with, get information about raids, etc.
You're also welcome to join the weekly Saturday Matinee event, which has been a weekly event on Justice for several years now. Anyone who signs up us welcome - it's open to all and a great way to meet new people. Sometimes as many as three teams are running the event. This week you can sign up here and in future weeks just look for the Saturday Matinee posts Darkbridger usually has up on Wednesday or Thursday.
