We didn't even make it through the 1st mission. I can tell you that Vahz zombies are neither slow nor easy to pull away from each other when they are all purple.

We restarted it when we were all at 14th and 15th level and it went much better. We played on that thing for over a week, treating him just like any other contact. It was awesome.
As proof of concept, our premade team (ill/rad, grav/kin, tank, scrapper, blaster, bubble def, PB) ran Bastion (Citadel as it is now) at level 25, steamrollered the first mission and cranked it up to invincible. The second mission was slow and not fun, but we did eventually kill all the +7s. Turned it back down and steamrollered the rest.
  2. Does this mean that if there is a feature in another game that we'd like to see in CoH, we have to mention it without mentioning the source game ?

It took hours if the whole team were level 10-12 because you didn't get XP beyond 15 and people didn't want to waste it. I used to do Synapse as my first TF and Posi later so would be over level and be able to SK somebody, a few people like that and it's not too bad. I used to run posi for merits a bit later in a touch over an hour.
  4. Not sure where this sort of feedback should go, it's not a bug as such, but it's such a horrible piece of design that I'm having to delete and remake a character I've just spent a load of time on. I just need to get my level 3 to icon to save the costume.

The new method of claiming veteran rewards is 20x worse than the old one.

The awards are not quite in order. You start at the bottom. You should get sands of mu or ghost slaying axe first. Then nemesis staff or blackwand. Then one of the others. You don't, you get NS/BW then other then SoM/GSA meaning I picked SoM off the wrong one so had to take GSA when I wanted nem staff. It was so much easier with the months linked to the clearly displayed award before.

You can't view the whole title of the award without highlighting it (you could before), you can't get as many on the screen as once as you used to. I just find this current design takes 3 times as long and I never made a mistake with the old method. Please rethink this and either revert it or improve it. Being able to adjust the widths of the columns so you could see the whole title would help as would being able to expand the top part of the email window so you could get more than 4 titles in it at a time (I used to see a hell of a lot more).

The claim all feature is utterly useless because I don't want the extra sprints cluttering up my powers screen, no way to delete those and claim the rest.

All in all I see the way this has been implemented as a big step backwards from what we had before in both functionality and user friendliness.

Amounts to the same thing, he is going to play for few enough hours that he will not under any circumstances subscribe atm. I'm going to try to persuade him to pay a one off at some point which will get him enough points to fill T7.

IO access is only $2 a month. If he goes somewhere else he has to start from scratch which is somewhat less painful since you don't have anything invested and you never had all the subscription only features. Of course he has to balance that, free and blissfully ignorant about what you don't have, with the time he spent developing and playing his characters here. For the price of two cups of McD's coffee a month.

However the complete blanking of IOs is a real problem for some and others have suggested a similar scheme, no set bonuses or procs and scale the value down to +0 SO for Lvl 50 IO with the lower levels scales the same, roughly 80% of their IO enhancement value. Depending how you slotted you may still be worse off than SOs but it's a lot better then no enhancement.
Again, if it was a sensibly priced IOs forever deal, he might go for it, but paying monthly for very little play doesn't appeal.
  6. My opinion.

If you have T7 or 8, premium is pretty good. One of the guys I played with soon after launch is T8 premium, has just lost his job so has time without wanting to spend money and is enjoying it.

Another is T5/6, and hates it. He is using 2 builds full of IOs already. Unless he's going to put some cash in he either loses the IOs by respecing, or he fights unenhanced.

There should be a middle ground. Say T3 you can't buy, make or slot IOs, but the ones you already have perform scaled down to as good as SOs with no set bonuses or special abilities. T5 you can buy/craft/use the common single stat IOs.

It's not a major incentive, but loses some of the disincentive to come back to the game, I fear we won't see him again unless this changes as he doesn't have enough free time at the moment to wish to subscribe. When he does have time, I suspect he'll, have moved on to another game as the freedom offering doesn't work for him.
  7. I like the arc. One thing that bugged me as it always does, is the map unavailable message on the last mission. Why ? I cannot see any possible justification for this ever happening in the game.

Not true, lost sort of scale to 50 as you'll know if you do close to max level lost missions at +diff.
  9. I started a couple of months after launch. I was wondering what to do with my life after doing a well paid job I enjoyed in IT that had more or less rendered me unemployable (too general, technical skills degraded too much).

    In my CoH time I've:

Met a load of friends who I now make a 7 or 8 hour round trip to see twice a year even though they don't play CoH any more.

Done a dead end job for 2 years and found it was far more highly stressed than the previous job I had that paid as much in a day as that one did in a week.

Decided that having done anything but studied in my first stab at university 20 years before, I'd get myself a degree. My final exams are in mid October this year.

Be interesting to see how many of the big PvP IOs are sold off market compared to on. I know a few are sold off market (but from the forums it doesn't seem to be that many), and I've seen them advertised in channels on freedumb, but that's a stat that's very difficult to assess.

The point is to set the cap high enough that there isn't the incentive to put up with the extra hassle of going off market. When prices were 4BN, people sold off market, when the going rate crept down to 2.5BN, i suspect less did, but can't prove that.

To Fulmens - put a 5% tax on trades/email influence transfers to characters not on the same account would get some influence removal on off market transactions.
  11. Comedy moment.

On all my toons that have teleport, I put it on the 9 key.

So my blaster respecs out of teleport, and a couple of days later I absent mindedly hit 9. Level 50, middle of Atlas park and I randomly nova. And that was how I found out that if you nova with no badguys in range, it doesn't cost you all your end.

    We need a /e embarrassed.

Depends how they implemented it. We've already seen how the 2BN cap is dealt with for some of the PvP IOs. Now let's say they implemented a cap for pool C standard IOs at 200M (figures plucked straight out of air for illustrative purposes only).

If you had an IO that you currently sold 10/day for 250M each, could you be bothered arranging the trades off market, or do you just sell on market at 200M ? You probably just sell on market, this would be the desired effect.

Now say they set the cap at 200M for purples also. Do you sell your currently 600M triples for 200M or do you sell off market ? You probably sell off market.

Also if you set a high cap for pool Cs to have it only affect the edge cases, only maybe 5 IOs would even possibly be affected by it, so it has no real effect on the inflation of the other stuff.

And there's the issue, unless you set individual caps for each item, you're not going to get anything which is effective, and doing that is way too much effort to even contemplate.

Market capping won't feasibly work in the general situation, although it could be brought in to deal with a few edge cases, but needs to not be at such a draconian level that it forces people to sell off market.

I'd hate it, but the best way of discouraging people from selling off market is to make the amount of influence you can trade (or email to anybody other than yourself) a lot smaller again so it takes ages to transfer large sums.

Different scale of what is cheap, I was picking up some of the not absolutely top stuff but still damn useful (think say lvl 28-29 steadfast 3% defs or lvl 40 Touch of Deaths for positional defence) for tens of thousands not millions. I didn't go after LotG 7.5s, so can't remember what they cost then (I know it was not much in the days of the 8 minute Katie farm that dropped a random pool C). Basically if I couldn't buy the recipe for 100K or less it wasn't bought although I dropped quite a few of the things I needed, and I got a pretty decent IO build which only needed one healing unique to finish off (ToDs/Makos/Red forts/sciroccos/Numi, steadfast and miracle uniques type stuff).

When I needed LotGs more recently I obviously overpaid at 80M for the 10 or so I bought so I'm aware of what can be done now, but it seems more like work and less like fun than it did in the old days. The challenge was basically to accumulate IOs to slot when you hit the late 30s off your own money without farming or marketeering and that would be tricky now unless you got lucky with drops or went out of your way to get A-merits (particularly as you level up much more quickly than you used to).

    Double XP Tally!

    DM/SR scrapper on Freedumb 47-50
    KM/SR stalker on Victory 46-50
    Rad/DP def on Victory 1-36

Plus some time in another MMO, and socialising with friends.
  15. I have it in fault, tremor and the epic energy torrent on my brute, if they've changed the suppression rules I'm a happy bunny

Footstomp is of course made for it.

And take your head out of your backside and realise that while flippers stabilise supply, they also negatively impact the market, it's not all good.

In the earlyish days of the market if you were patient and poor, you could eventually pick up good stuff for cheap prices simply by leaving bids up for long enough. A friend got all 3 of the original healing set uniques for a total of less than 6M. I IOd out a scrapper in very decent gear (pre purples) for 2M or so excluding crafting costs (although none of the IOs were 50s, so that wasn't that much, <5M in total).

Doing this was a fun game for me, and flipping ruined my entertainment.

I have a lot of 50s, so I never need to IO a toon out NAO, and starting to buy the IOs for the ultimate build when a toon is level 1, I normally had pretty much all of them at bargain basement prices by the time I reached the level to slot them.

Due to marketeering (buy recipes - craft - profit) I've made enough cash to have several multi billion builds, but I do miss the fun of seeing what you can do on next to nothing, it's just too much work to be fun nowadays, and flipping is a large part of that.
  17. That is so much better than the first attempt, well done.

  19. Server status page is for some time in June, looking at some of the other threads on this, it's overrunning daily maintenance, confirmed by a redname called European support.

More to the point it should be part of the protocol that before you take the live servers down that you check that the status page is functioning.

  22. Varies, usually I will have either a name or a powerset combination I want to try, or a new booster pack I want to use, so 1/3.

If I start with a powerset combination, I'll usually random costumes to get a theme, tidy it up then find a name and background that fits.

If I start with a name, usually a bad pun or name from music (shame they generic'd Debbie does Talos, but that's the sort of level, or Baron von Tollbooth), the costume is usually fairly obvious, Standup Chameleon for example. I will then either select powersets I want to try or just reserve the name/costume and build it after the next set of proliferations. Bio will have already have been thought about with the name.

My most recent creation Daphne Fitzherbert was an excuse to use the steampunk pack. Needed an upper class British lady's name and backround was thought about beforehand, she was a magic origin hero, the steampunk stuff was keeping it in.

    19 seconds ... haxx

    but seriously nice work.

Do you have any feel as to whether the faster ones gave better drops or the slower ones ? (and did you kill more in the slower ones ?) I wonder if how much you kill as a team has any effect.
  24. Hopefully resident has been driven off by people with a clue. I've had purples while afk on the phone nowhere near the badguys so it definitely can happen. A friend on a level 1 (SKd to 49) who was staying out the way got a purple as his first IO drop.
  25. Has any thought been given post freedom to giving non VIP players temporary access to the incarnate system with the intention of persuading them that (re)subscribing would be a good idea ?
