You only look at the negative.

Have you compared, say, Alchemical Silver now to what it was, oh, two weeks ago? I have.

2 weeks (ish) ago = 300,000 or so.
    Now = 25,000. Sometomes down to 10-15k.

They may be "pumping INF into the system at an exorbitant rate," but others are pumping *supply* into the system as well. I know, because *I* do it when I'm trying to get stuff for crafting IOs for SGs. Need X and Y, dump W, Z, Q, B, and V onto the market in stacks. Repeatedly. And I don't need a specialized farm or farming character to do it.

Perhaps not to you, but for some people who play the arcs... they will notice. If the rezzed boss is a pain to fight (especially after *another* fight with them - see Valkyrie) you'll see it in dropped ratings, even if you don't get a comment on it.

Are you *sure* about that, or just stuck on a stereotype?

See, I hear people running these for a few reasons:
    - Getting to 50, yes.
    - Getting to 50 to PVP, because that's the part of the game they enjoy.
    - Getting tickets to get salvage/recipes.
    - Getting tickets for salvage to dump on the market to try to bring salvage down.
    - Getting Prestige built up for a base.
    - Getting INF to help kit out a character (or for the many other things INF is used for.)
    - Edit - and can't forget "I just like mowing down this many enemies at once, and I can't consistently get that in missions."

"Farmer" is not the same as "1-50 in a day PLer."

The devs have also stated they don't do "Risk vs Reward" any more, but something more along the lines of Reward over Time. (i forget their exact wording, but it was more dealing with the time taken than the risk involved.)

If there is no one to play the old farms that are still in AE, then how can MARTy register them?

But, is MARTy supposed to be the reporting feature or the actual feature that disables earning rewards? What I got from the Dev thread was that MARTy gathers data, sends it in and then they take the data, find a solution then patch something that would then limit based on the feedback from MARTy. I don't believe MARTy is the plan that makes the fix rather just the messenger that sends what /should/ be fixed.
It's both, somewhat, from what I gathered.

MARTy montiors rewards. If the rewards you're getting exceed some (undisclosed) metric, it throttles (or completely shuts down) the rewards *now* until X amount of time has passed, then lets you start earning XP, Inf, tickets and the like again. (NOT related to the AE ticket limit.)

It should then send information in to the devs about what was being done.

It's meant to be a brake on exploits, so that it can curb them short-term while a fix is made long term (IE, no "Monkey farm emergency maintenance") without affecting "Aggressive play."

In other words, and going by what the devs have said, we should still be able to run missions with your IO'd out, Incarnated death machine at +4x8 and not trip it - but something like the monkey farms (underlings that die in 1 hit and give Boss level rewards, IIRC,) would trip it quickly. At which point the people in the exploitive farm would find their rewards just stopped for some amount of time, and the devs would be notified.

Farming != PLing. Yes, PLers farm. Not all farmers PL. Much like all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.

*points at post a few posts above mentioning tickets* - for one example.

As for nonchalance? No, if it *irritated* anyone, it'd be fairly obvious. They've hit other farming techniques in the past, and nobody was nonchalant about it. This really is generally ineffective at doing much more than "showing we're doing something, really."

Apparently MARTy wasn't being tripped with the *old* farms. (It kicks in and throttles/eliminates rewards for a time.) So what makes you think it will do anything *now?*

    Archery Overhaul

Again, Dual Pistols was *Designed around that.* It is *NOT* just cosmetic. Its damage, and the buffs/debuffs of the Swap Ammo power, were designed as a *whole set.*

DuAl pistols is not in the least bit realistic, unless you can show me someone firing randomly into the air and hitting targets in front of them, for example. Or spinning and flipping their guns around and firing them in the same way.

It's designed to look like movie "gun-fu," which nobody in their right mind would do with an *actual* set of pistols.

    (A) It's no longer "Risk = Reward," according to them, it's somethingorother over time (reward over time? Something like that.) Which they still don't adhere to, and which is also why you rarely see anyone deal with Lusca, for instance. "All that for two merits and less XP than a boss gives... no."

    (B) Removing self rezzing = "Can't do that because of story creators." Unfortunately for those of us who like/liked creating stories, there are about 10 people who actually care. And with this loss of reward for killing someone we have rez for story purposes... time for "four star hell" again (Not on the first few pages = doomed to obscurity.)

If anything this makes farming easier, as the incentive to make mobs take longer to kill (rezzing) is gone. Folks will just fill maps now with mobs that don't rez or will simply exit the map sooner.

Also clogs up the search more as the new "non rez mob" farms are added to the list. And the search is the WORST FEATURE of AE hands down. period.

    /golfclap.

And this also potentially hurts LEGITIMATE arcs that used mobs that rez.
    /all this.

A futile gesture, really. (Rather like trying to talk sense to Trollden Girl.) But, given that MARTy didn't seem to really be affecting these, I suppose they "had to be seen to do something."

Not that it'll affect the OP (as a new player) but right now, if you have either the COH or COV Collector DVD capes, you won't have them available if you buy the unlock - you need to run the mission. (Just verified that does it on one of mine.)

    Signature arcs?

I don't know about "Epic." I'd withhold THAT label until we see the whole set. Interesting, sure. Making me want to see what's up with the next arc, absolutely. Bit short, but if they're pumping these out weekly and adding all they did this time through, I can't complain about that. (Well, yes, I technically CAN, but it's not something I would complain about given what they are and what they did.)

Not sure how my controllers are going to fair on these. At least this one. >.>

... but please, if possible, dump the "Click ENTER GAME to enter each mission" bit.
  12. People do go into it - but yeah, it needs stuff.

*points to sig* Look at the guides, there's one for the original COH trailer.

Origins USED to have a *lot* more meaning (and, as I recall, there were more of them.) Origin X would let you pick (say) up to 10 powers, but you could only enhance them so far, while origin Y would only let you pick 6, but you could enhance them far more.

Of course, the whole power choice, etc. system was different in Alpha, too.

They get a *little* attention now (with changes in dialog - such as what Trapdoor's artifact turns into,) and yeah, more could be done with them (I'd like to see Origin-specific arcs from 1-50, myself,) but not much.

    Archery Overhaul

The thing is, Archery looks like... Archery. (Well, except Rain of Arrows. Show me someone who can actually do that...) Its look is wholly appropriate.

Have you seen the ghosts in the fort in Oakes? (Or floating around one of the villainside firebases in Bloody Bay?) Looks like one of those - or go check the announcements, there's a pic there.
  16. Don't worry about being a non-RPer on Virtue. They really don't care. They may ((fill up the broadcast)) a good bit ((with a lot of parenthesis,)) but there are plenty of non RPers and light RPers there, too.

    Meanwhile, try Pinnacle or Victory.

Of course, I should note that Exhausted... er, Exalted is the "new shiny" server, so there are people rushing there to level up new characters. It IS VIP only, though, so if you ever drop to premium, you won't be able to run the characters you have there.
  17. Per the devs in one of the last ustream chats, those terminals were a bit of a bandwidth hog... so as much as I'd like to see them be useful again, we probably won't.
  18. That and it may not be *possible* to do without messing up ... well, quite a bit more. I still suspect Origin is one of the old bits of information buried in deep in character information, otherwise we may have had the option to change it already.

    Just a guess, though.
  19. Most of the VEAT arcs past, oh, 20 or so. It'd be great if they'd branch out with your (original) choice - so Fortunatas get a Fortunata-themed arc, Spiders get that, Banes get Bane-centered information, etc. Instead of the rushed garbage ending with "Um, go listen to Statesman's odd metagame speech then beat him up for giving it."

Agree with Number 204... one of the few unlocks I don't bother going back TO unlock again, or miss unlocking.

Agent ... I can never think of his name, the "partially Riktified" agent blueside, I believe, needs an update.

    Dr. Q's task force.

The ones that HAD it still have the options.

The ones with a purchased unlock don't. I'm assuming they will when you run the cape mission... but I'm also assuming it's a bug. Will have to poke around some more.
  22. I've been messing with Win8 on a Virtualbox VM (VMWare didn't like it.)

The default interface they have right now - the "Metro" thing? I can say already I *despise* it. I use Ninite when I set up a new machine (ninite.com) - one downloader, grabs Firefox, Chrome, all the little utilities and such (it's fairly convenient.) I let that run. Aside from not finishing the install, the "Metro" UI now had not just the program icons, but... basically anything that would be in a "Start menu" entry (uninstallers and the like) that you have to manually remove from that menu.

Plus, it's hideous. It *is* designed for touch screens and phone-ish apps, and so far hasn't wanted to play nicely as a regular desktop OS. (Dear microsoft... we're not moving to tablets. Maybe getting one to work WITH what we do on the PC... but not replacing it.)

I like the new lock screen, mind you - that's a fairly useful thing, and I wouldnt' mind seeing THAT backported to Win7.

There is, by the way, a registry setting to completely disable the Metro UI (instead of the "flip back and forth" bit.) Don't have it near to hand, but with it... well, it's Windows 7.5, and I can stop swearing at the VM to have it do what I want it to do! I'm hoping (expecting) it'll be an official settings option when the OS matures a bit more. I will say that, yes, at this point it *is* quick.
  23. The one issue that comes up that I can think of, is that the attacks aren't "typed" to origin. To damage type (Fire, Smashing, Lethal, etc.) and attack (ranged, AOE, melee) - which you can see in the IO sets now.

Essentially you'd have to recode every power in the game that NPCs use.

And then you get to deal with PVP and player-selected origins. Which would actually make the Origin slot on the LFT window mean something, of course...

Personally, I'd say extend the "GR Preorder" boosters into (rare? Uncommon? Depending on strength) IO types, that can add either multi aspect with effect (End/Chance for Hold, say, or Rech/Chance for Smashing, as examples) or just the proc effect (chance for...) themselves.

Balance-wise, it does leave the player with a choice of using a full set or a partial set plus proc (given some of the nice defense bonuses, for instance, are on the sixth piece of a set, this can be a sacrifice.)
  24. Minor thing, but with around 300 characters, it's getting a bit irksome.

We can shut off the Paragon Points / Paragon Store buttons from being seen on screen through the Options menu. Unfortunately, it's a per-character setting... which, with (as mentioned) around 300 characters, gets a little irritating at times.

You *can* save options to file/load from file, but again... it gets a touch irritating when you have a fair number of characters. To me, it makes no real sense to have these be a "per-character" setting. A global setting would be MUCH nicer - turn the buttons off once, they're off on all characters, old and new.

(Actually, I think an overall review of what's per character versus global would probably be in order.)
