I'm just going to leave it as we're going to have to disagree on this.

Then again, my... lowering regard for the dev team (see also "small dogs, room of bouncing balls") and the directions they're moving is fairly well on record.

Also just stepping back out in general. As mentioned - DA is near and dear to me. It's really, zone-wise, something that hooked me on COH way back, and no, given what we've been shown, I *don't* see this as good in the slightest - I see it as sacrificing a zone to more Well/Praetorian piffle.

So my posts on this - I've deleted and just stopped myself from making a few after typing them out, seeing that I'm still just disgusted with how things are going and it's making me far too tempted to snap at people. I've written about five replies to bosstone and the tone of them... yeah. Not the way to have a discussion. Even with having GG on ignore still.

How would it be limiting? Honestly?

It's a moot point now, I know - the zone's getting discarded for this anyway, and it's not bringing a recurring sub back from me thanks to it. But if they're willing to create first ward - or, for that matter, Cimerora - I can't take that "limiting" as a realistic argument. (Barring technical limitations, but - again - they've created new zones anyway. I can't see that being an actual *limit* with five iTrials to go and with echoes of Galaxy available - and possibly one of DA at this ponit.)

Besides, why make those theoretical instances when the zone itself is there *now?* Why *not* make the Incarnate side of things the instance, or again the "spirit" zone (through the midnighters or some other mechanism if it's going to be coop?)

I just see it as poorly handled. But, as I said - moot now anyway.

It's ridiculous how they threw away a potentially cool story to give us this drek.
This is it exactly. And yes, DA is near and dear to my heart - I've pushed for, suggested, etc. changes to DA for a while, and seeing what they have planned for it - ugh.

Circle of Thorns dialog in the zone seems to indicate *they* had some hand in the binding of - or at least maintaining the current status of - Mot. When? How? That ALONE could deal with a good arc's worth of content - where you find they're being weakened (the bindings, that is.)

The Pantheon learning about it is barely touched on (if at all.) Strongly indicated but not really touched on. And it's been an ongoing "battle" since the Rikti war. What changed? Again, another arc's worth, at least.

Not to mention the Tsoo - what did Tub Ci find out about, and why is he sending his people in to find? Are the Ancestor Spirits perhaps at risk, given the Pantheon sacrificing other ghosts? What could happen to them? Admittedly, that group of questions is a bit more tangental - but if what they're searching for is reinforcing the bindings, they become rather big players in the zone without planning on it.

Hell, I think one of my last suggestions before leaving (and, honestly, I consider myself still "left," TBH - barely in game, generally when TOR is down for maintenance, IE, today, and I'm even less fond of what I'm seeing for a direction for the game) dealt with doing just this. Creating arcs that would drive interest in the zone, ending up with Incarnate appropriate content, though I had the player(s) going against the Pantheon themselves.

That creates a lot of potential avenues for incarnate content that is structured differently from trials, including non-instanced content, zone events, and the like.

Losing the "potential" of Dark Astoria to open those avenues for the solo and small-team incarnate content seems to be a perfectly reasonable way to spend that potential.
It's not a math point, so I have no qualms about disagreeing with you here.

People have asked for years to have story content related to the zone. To the conflict between the Pantheon and the Circle. Finding out what the Tsoo want. Having that content would make people aware of DA *having* a story behind it.

Nothing would keep them from making a DA instance - you meet a contact that whisks you away to spirit-DA where Mot's waking up, for instance - where Incarnate level powers and abilities are needed and appropriate. Rather like... oh, FIrst Ward.

(And to TrolldenSmiley, no, First Ward does not in the least "replace" DA and the storylines that could well be tied in there. Not in the least.)

(And I'm remembering why I enjoyed not posting. These discussions get irritating fast, to me.)
  5. Wondered if this'd come in while I could still post it Though if you're in the group over on DA, it's showing up, as well.

Piece I've had in mind for a while, finished by Bakart - not the way I originally *had* in mind, but it works out far better this way in showing the three involved. Two of which I've had artwork done of before.

Seeker209, going to exile, is the main character on the left. Materra (shadow in the back, second frame) watching him go, and Sinister Nova, a stalker (and a shadow in Materra's frame) thinking she's destroyed his family (and about to get a shock when she finds out otherwise.)

I should write up the full story there. And the various little details behind it (such as why Materra's skin is blue - and why she's irritated by it - though that's mentioned over on DA, or why Nova's rather pleased with herself.)
  6. Since I'm in doing some maintenance (and mostly playing TOR these days, but nothing there's inspiring art) I thought I'd update this with the most recent acquisitions. Still waiting for bakart to finish one piece I've wanted done for literally years, and decided he was the one to do it. So expect one more update before this re-runs out.

You may have seen these on DA

    1. Medi Christmas - Taclobanon.
    Character - medikitty, Freedom, 50 Emp/Rad.

    2. Keres Mot - also Taclobanon
Ice/Dark Corruptor... that I still should finish at some point.

  7. Memphis_Bill

    Have yourself a

"Medi" little Christmas, COH forum folks!

(Since most wont' get the joke - character's name is Medikitty. 50 Emp/Rad, Freedom, older character. But new costume and a new bit of artwork.)

... back to kaas city! (Temporarily back in to do some maintenance, etc.)

Er, no. Controllers can do wonderfully solo. Some may not do much damage (see: my Earth/FF or Ice/Emp) but there's absolutely nothing wrong with soloing - *especially* mind. It's one of my preferred sets if I'm wanting to solo a while. (That and plant.) That's true, however, for both controllers and doms.

Side note for the OP - many bosses that otherwise give trouble will be vulnerable to sleep.

For the OP - I'm expecting there's just some tactics, slotting and/or power choices that need adjusting.
  9. I'll let someone else take that first step.

My computer is quite new, quite high-end (can't remember specifics right now), and when I did the update that was prompted to me by Windows to upgrade to 11.7, that's when I had most of the issues. I was able to revert back down. My question is this... Is the 11.9 the Catalyst package? And, how reliable is it compared to the earlier versions?
    ATI user here as well.

11.5 was decent. I kept running that. 11.6-11.8 crashed the game pretty hard. 11.9 is what I'm running now with no issues - HD5770 1Gb, no Crossfire.

There are instructions on doing a clean driver install - basically,
head to phyxion.net (not guru3d, they stopped carrying this,) grab driversweeper.
Grab the 11.9 package from ATI.
Uninstall drivers from add/remove (or programs and features.)
    Reboot in safe mode.
Run driversweeper to get all the ATI stuff out.
Reboot - don't let Windows try to install anything.
    Run the new ATI drivers.
    Enjoy.
  11. Sure you can. Just put it where the horse is in the following illustration:

  12. "President Golden Girl." *runs screaming to Canada*

Heights. But not in an airplane. Near a window a few stories up, having to climb something (or *watching* someone climb a tower or show the view on tv from a skyscraper under construction,) glass floors, etc.... no thank you. But I'll happily *fly* higher.
  13. You say this as though it needs discussion!
  14. Since I'm dropping down to premium (or just taking off all together, not 100% sure yet, taking a break one way or another,) I (quite obviously!) won't be able to post a piece or two I'm waiting on - or stuff I'll end up having done later.

(In game or not, I still enjoy the characters, after all.)

So, for future bits and pieces:
Photobucket - I put everything here. Note a few deserve two-click warning.
Deviantart - I'm *bad* at updating this. But it does, generally, get updated.
  15. Nah.

See, the problem with them saying anything like that is that they can't guarantee they'll follow through. The Universities were being built back (I believe) in Issue 5, for use in the SSOCS (the "super secret" out of combat skill system, as I recall it meaning) - giving other ways of improving your character. That was scrapped for "not being fun."

    Or, well, Statesman's comment here:

    Thanks, Pinn

Started on Pinnacle way back when. Have to say it was a damn good choice, one I've never regretted. We might not be the biggest server, but we're sure as hell the best, IMO. I've had a lot of fun here (including having my brute sworn at for being a "#### stalker" more than once, pre-I13) and met great people. I don't know that I'd have *wanted* to stick around as long if I'd started anywhere else.

    Thanks for a great run.

The zombie event (which also has a chance to happen if you turn in halloween salvage at night at any time of the year) just has you... killing zombies. There are four grades, minion to EB. Kill enough of each type and you get a badge. Don't recall if it's "Kill all four" or "Kill enough EBs" and you unlock a pumpkin head costume piece.

And he that stubbed his toe, in his pained hopping upon one foot, then did find the other's keys when he jumped upon them, and yet more wailing was had.

Yea, the host then did cry out, "Someone turn on the bloody light!"

Hearing their cries, the Light was turned on. And it was good, though they were blinded by the brightness. And then did their eyes grow used to the light, and they agreed it was good. And in council with each other shortly thereafter, they agreed, and did proclaim that Jim should really put his pants on.

    /this.

There's quite a few "lore hooks" in DA. And people have suggested *content* for it (and other hazard zones) for years. *Begging* for DA content is one of the constants in this game. (And personally I'd prefer it over a 'constant halloween event," especially since you can try triggering the latter by turning in halloween salvage at night.)
  22. ... but could be faster.

Honestly, I've had my Rad characters in the exact same situation more often than not, so I see what they're saying. (And no, I don't see it making a difference for a "toggle pull," which is an odd argument.)

Want annoying, play a Grav/Rad and learn to not even bother with either of the toggles *or* Propel - start making a list of powers that don't activate fast enough to be worth using in a team outside of EB or higher ranks.

In any case, though - yes, it gets frustrating to basically end up deciding it's more worthwhile to ignore two early and key powers for most of the game.

Three stooges... eh. They're more of a "small dose" thing for me. If I'm looking back that far, I'll go with Laurel and Hardy (for a bit,) Abbott and Costello, or the Marx brothers. Absolutely love the Marx brothers. Little more recent, Danny Kaye. Court Jester is fun - and the Five Pennies, for a serious one, is wonderful.

I am, of course, kidding. It just seems you're judging these things from a distance and I've never been a fan of such things.
Honestly, I gave them a chance. ILC was, after all, new and "hot" while I was - hmm, think that was high school for me. It started a *strong* dislike of Jim Carrey for me. (And, honestly, little unneeded shots like... ever see the skit where they're redoing Michael Jackson's "Black or white," only to end with the character being arrested with the quip "Well, I guess I'm black!" - stuff like that destroyed otherwise decent skits and got me to despise the show, on top of the juvenile quality of the 'humor.')

I've tried putting up with his 'humor' from time to time since. Haven't been able to stand it.

    Quote:
Did you watch The Number 23? Or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? Or Bruce Almighty? Or Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events? Or The Majestic?
Knew I missed one or two. I've got Bruce Almighty, actually, and *believe* I've seen The Majestic.
    Quote:
If anything, I beg to you to watch Man on the Moon. His portrayal of Andy Kaufman *IS* brilliant.
See, that's the thing. He *can* be a brilliant actor, I agree. When he chooses to let that come through. But his "humor" has so poisoned me against him that it takes a *hell* of a lot to overcome his name in the credits for me to see it.

Now, if my early exposure to him *had* been the Truman show - or even The Mask - I'd probably be inclined much more favourably to him and willing to overlook the other things. And yeah, you can call me a bit of a comedy snob, I'll cop to that . I'd just like to see his comic side grow up (and stay grown up) a bit more.

I think he will, honestly. That he'll end up (to me) sitting at about the same point as Tom Hanks or Robin Williams (who was also rather a flake when he started, and still can be) when all's said and done. I just really, *really* can't stand his "comedy" style.

(Sliding in an edit here: I'm surprised to be agreeing with Tenzhi but I agree - two different people can do the same joke, one being funny, one... not. And for me, the way ILC did it wasn't. I thought it was poorly done throughout their run. But we're also getting into personal preferences, too - some people like Kenneth Brannagh, some people like Kenny from South Park... which, yes, is another 'popular' show I don't care for.)

And then we get to ILC... which, thinking of the original, is taking all the stuff I don't like about Jim Carrey and cloning it, then throwing all the clones together in a room to fart at each other and eat paste and think it's funny. You kind of have to ask yourself if you're laughing because something's *actually* funny, or if it's more pointing and laughing and going "OMG, he is SUCH an idiot, who let him out?" For me, it's the second, and I don't laugh because I actually feel *bad* for him making such a fool out of himself.

My two main misgivings for ILC? (A) It's ILC 2.0, and (B) it's on Fox. *shrug*
  24. Huh. Well, I've had a running back and forth - though I've mostly done it on heroes.

If anything, the "You think you've beaten me?" (Reply: "Yep. Kicked your butt.") starter is amusing. There's not a lot past that.
