Quote:Personally, I expect it to peter out soon, then come back when they can do a somewhat different (more... "slinking," I suppose) animation with them.Bill, it's nice to see someone else saying basically what I've been saying about the "all the animals" complaints as well.
Since they can't be customized, I hope they keep dishing out a lot of these things (or come up with a way to customize them, which I find highly unlikely any time soon, if ever).
My "Wouldn't be surprised" list:
- Dogs/other creatures in the city.
- Random dog-like creature with new group, possibly with attacks other than the lunge.
- Porting 2-3 other dog types over once they're NPCs/scenery.
- The "Dog Pack" with multiple variants in the market, 800pp. -
Quote:Not really - and let me point out that one thing that's come up for *years* is "Where are all the animals? Why are there no dogs or cats roaming areas of the city?" I expect we'll get to see that soonish.Granted, but I never said it was all they did recently, just that they've done a lot of it. And they have, since animal pack, no other theme has really gotten as much love as "animal". Sure there have been other powersets and lots of other stuff in the game, but Titan weapons didn't get 9 weapons packs. It got one.
All I'm saying is, the animal stuff has come on really heavy, and maybe it's selling like hot cakes, but I don't see that many of them (outside beast mastery) running around in the game, and honestly I think they can dial it down a little for a bit. I don't think we need a new animal in the game as often as we've been getting them.
As far as "no other theme," you're comparing a "theme" with a powerset. Not really valid. Titan Weapons came out, for *multiple* ATs, and then had an extra pack for more weapon variety. And then we had one - *one* - mastermind set based on animals. And a few temporary powers that others can use to fill out their character ideas (shapeshifting druid, archer with dog pet, etc.)
Before this, we've had people asking for more animal parts, companions, etc. They're finally able to fulfill many of those requests - so why shouldn't they? *They're able to do what we've asked for, and they're doing it.*
And no, obviously by "we" I don't mean everyone. But as far as "we" a portion of the playerbase? Heck yes.
So, y'know what? If you (by you, I mean all the people complaining about "all" the animals) don't like it, all you have to do is wait. Others *have* been waiting, and they're getting their requests done now that it's possible. In a little while, something else will be filling the requests of other customers, just like Titan Weapons did, for instance, and if it's new tech they had to develop, they'll use it and we'll see the same old "OMG they're overusing it I'm so sick of seeing it" threads on that. -
Quote:... and ignore that, I bought them (for example) when non-VIP. They're getting steady cashflow for other things. Some of you will protest that not all of these were retail. That is irrelevant. Free to VIP's or not,
Getting stuck in the trap of "seen through VIP eyes" doesn't help. After all, not everyone's VIP. -
Quote:More than we had before, which is what we have now.The Developers are falling prey to the "new shiny tech" affliction. First it was Ouoboros and Cimerora which fell by the wayside, then it was Praetoria and First Ward (where is the level 30 content for Praetoria?) now it's the four-legged rig.
How many canines/felines do we need?
Quote:Seriously, put those resources to high quality costume bundles like Carnival of Light or even the Sci-Fi pack or to new powersets.
We're not losing anything.
Quote:Staff fighting could have been released before Issue 22 but I do understand they wanted Dark Control and Dark Assault and Beast Mastery in that timeframe. But it's now mid-April and we still don't know when it is going live.
Quote:There really should be a schedule under Announcements so we know what to expect and when to expect it...it would alleviate so much forum angst if there were one. -
Also, since it's still in my head, I get to inflict it on others.

Couple months ago, I was getting irritated with the game and generally.... unpleasant on the boards. Found myself apologizing once per thread, it seemed, for biting someone's head off.
Suggestion?
Just ignore the boards. A week or two, whatever. Peek back in, see if you still feel like grumping at someone, if so, give it another week.
The break helps, trust me. (At least I *hope* I haven't bitten anyone's head off lately - haven't intended to.) -
Quote:In looks, maybe. He's really rather annoying... don't know that I'd run his arc again. The art museum guy reminds me of a hero-side Willy Wheeler

Quote:Didn't they get burned by that sort of thing at least once already?I highly encourage that in the future to provide an expected release time frame.
(Or even release order... remember the SSOCS that... er... never showed up that was supposed to take some sting from ED? Instead, we waited for Inventions.) -
Quote:Note it may not be "they are in the financial situation where they have to," but "The work (time/money) taken to do so is no longer worth the cost given the market."Given that they are in the financial situation that they have two shut down support for two languages soon, no I don't think they are secretly working on a CoH upgrade.
A healthy company can still shut down products/services/variations that are an economic drain that won't be paying back that cost. It's done all the time. -
Non animal releases -
Powersets:
Beam rifle
Dark blast
Dark manipulation
Street Justice
Titan Weapons (and added skins)
... feel like I'm missing about two other than Beast.
Costume sets:

Fire and Ice
Celestial
Gunslinger
Carnival of Light
Other - ignoring things like super packs, ATOs, etc.
Leprechaun buff pet
While yes, there's a lot *recently* (as they're trying to get some stretch out of the new rig,) on balance it's not all that bad. -

Good thing everyone goes to you to find out what they should and shouldn't like, huh.

Ran it not too long ago. Wasn't a constant DOT, and we barely had to heal it.
Difficult? Not in the least. -
I don't see it as "restrictive." If I see/know of one that's fitting, I'll take a few minutes (or longer) to go after it.
For instance, just the other night I was in AE, building up tickets for salvage (because market prices are amusing) to build a bunch of 35 and 40 Damage IOs. Why? Because the character is a mercenary and arms dealer. Noticed the badge ("Arms Dealer,") got the badge.
In general, though, I don't bother either really seeking out or ignoring badges. They're just "there." -
If the "X" is hard to hit (on the window I think you're talking about,) just click the word "Salvage" above the powers bar again and it'll close. I almost never use the silly-tiny buttons.
-
Don't remember if he's one of the ones introduced this issue or not - if not, then he's one of the ones you just "walk up and shake hands" with. (Found Linda Lockhart and... bah, the art museum guy... the same way heroside.)
And I now want a Reuben, but have none of the fixin's. Bah. -
Just a basic desk, chair, etc. But the main/gaming system also shares it with my work system, so...
As far as inserting a picture, there should be an icon on the bar that looks like a yellow rectangle with "mountains" inside - which will ask for the URL of the picture (wherever you're hosting it.) If you're using a service like Photobucket, it will have an option to let you copy some code inside [ IMG ] tags (without the spaces) - just copy and paste.
For instance, the code for this:
looks like this (again, removing the spaces between the brackets and IMG)
[ IMG ]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/egmccann/City%20of%20Heroes/vidunno.jpg[ /IMG ]
Edit:
Also, so nobody feels their setup's not good enough - my (admittedly temporary) setup - that desk is going *away* when I move, it's been used hard for many years.
And yes, in a more permanent setup, the cables would be cleaner.

Quote:That's less a "set" than a "theme." (And I do so, as well... any electric powerset, pretty much, gets a version of my first 50 - it's a big multiverse. So, elec/elec blaster (with a few copies,) elec/elec brute, elec/elec dom, elec/nin stalker, storm/mercs (since, well, it has some storm clouds... so, elecI'd have to say...electric...
Most, if not all, are variations on my namesake (minus the X...had to add that for forum name).
Raiken: Elec/Dev/Elec blaster (wierd combo, huh?)
Dark Raiken: EL/EL/Mu Brute
Raiken the Stalker: EL/EL/Soul Stalker (who woulda guessed)
Dom Raiken: EL/EL Dominator (bit of a patten forming here)
Kin Rai: KM/EL stalker
Kinetic Raiken: KM/EL scrapper.
Raiken the Summoner Demon/Thermal/Mu Mastery (eventually) mastermind.
Gunslinger Raiken: DP/EL/Munitions (I couldn't resist the "fwoosh BOOM" of LRM) blaster (pictured in my avatar)
All of them follow the same basic look...short...white hair (wild)...with a white tail (OMG i was so thrilled when we finally got animated tails!)) elec/elec tank... probably a few I'm forgetting. Only one of her variants that doesn't have somethign electric is the dark/therm corruptor, for rp reasons more than anything.

Quote:Just going from how it sounds. I don't keep up with the various dev comments, etc. like I used to. It's easier to enjoy the game that way.Not really the same thing. Still, i don't think a new AT is promised, but Zwill's thread combined with some other posts and comments by PS people in the past make me think it's a distinct possibility even if it's not exactly guaranteed.

Quote:Just had this quoted in another thread.I think you underestimate our desire to expand the game in more creative ways.
Counter question:
Let's say, hypothetically, we introduced a new AT, but because of the amount of time and cost it would take to develop it, we had no choice but to offer it in the Paragon Market (a possible scenario).
Based on our established precedents, what do you feel would be a fair price, in Paragon Points?
I'm interested in your responses.
I'd have to give an "It depends."
I'm going to start off with Epic ATs, as (to me) they'd somewhat make sense to unlock. I think some of the responses are still seeing epics as "primary/secondary, one or two." Frankly, I think the unlock for Khelds and VEATs are cheaper *now* because the work's been done for years.
A proper EAT (I'm going to use Coralax as an example) would be, *at a minimum,* 1200, to go with story arcs, and I'd expect higher as we're looking at 1-50 arcs. Given two options like the other EATs, I'd probably love 1600 and consider it a steal.
Now, if we're just looking at a regular AT, like blasters or tanks but "something new" - hmmm. A power set runs 800. I'd expect at least two powersets, probably three to be released with a new AT if they need creation from near-scratch - and then there's the work coming up with the AT, balancing, etc. it (and new ATOs for it.) But you'd still want people to buy it... 1200, with a discount/free token for a future powerset for that AT (shared or unique.) Why higher than MM/Controllers? Because it *is* new - you're not just locking work that's previously been done away because of server load. (If it's easier to port some powersets to this new AT because they're not from scratch, I'd hope there'd be 4-5 within the AT at launch.) -
So basically the same way we had "OMG They're going to a serverless environment!" going on for a few years because, when they started offering server transfers, they put in a disclaimer that said "no refunds if we ever do anything that would make this invalid, for instance going to a serverless environment."
They put in an example of something and some people were practically jumping up and down going "they promised!" and the like.
