  1. I'll be working, reading webcomics, reading books, and pretending to work some more while talking with friends over steam.
  2. Plus, yes it's one time use, but it's permanent for all intents and purposes. Shivans last only a few minutes.
  3. Needed, no. They're there to fill in possible holes - Scrappers, for instance, get a ranged attack and some utility, Controllers get ranged blasts and a little armor, etc.
  4. As a side note - I tend (in a longer, "Here's how you create a new group so this doesn't bother you again" cut and paste, to mention making alts on another server. I'd suggest doing it anyway - every once in a while, one data center will have issues, or you'll have a network problem (outside of NC's purview) that keeps you from seeing one "coast" of servers.

    Champion
    Guardian
    Justice
    Protector
    Virtue

... are all west coast servers, all the others are on the east coast. Make alts on each coast. (There's frankly no performance difference. Living in Oregon, I was playing on Pinnacle and saw no difference from one of the above. Living in FL... still no difference.)
  5. Well, I know I'll be keeping the whole old set for SS on one character - just because. But I've got enough SS characters I can see myself mixing and matching for the heck of it. Wonder how many times I'll double check what I just activated after seeing the new animation mixed in.

    I'm sorry

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Indeed.

All I heard was, "No one likes my ghost-town server waaah!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which server would that be? I don't see any "ghost towns" - yet another freedomite myth, it seems.

Have fun clicking back and forth trying to get into your server. I'll be logged in and actually playing the game.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Well your first post in the thread did refer to it as "freedumb"....

    [/ QUOTE ]

    And in context:

    [ QUOTE ]

Freedom has the highest population (well, load,) yes, but there's a reason it gained the nickname "freedumb."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do you deny that's a longstanding nickname? It's sure been called that as long as I recall - my forum date's within a week of my start date, so it's been several years.

    [ QUOTE ]

And why not point out other "facts" like in general only low end machines will really notice the lag,

    [/ QUOTE ]

My machine is not low end, and I do still notice the lag. Not as badly, but it's still noticed.

    [ QUOTE ]

or how anyone with any experience will only be "locked out" for 2-3 minutes since all they have to do is click on another server and then click Back a few times...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course, to completely avoid the problem, they can click on another server... and stay there, not locked out at all.

Yet you don't dispute, given history, that we'll see a good number of "I can't get in" threads (probably followed with "NCSoft owes me.")

    [ QUOTE ]

But it does get a little annoying to see my home server constantly attacked, belittled, insulted, etc whenever someone asks a question about servers....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Freedom has earned it. With my own experience, I've had a higher percentage of really bad teams, more BS broadcast spam, worse teammates doing flat out stupid things and more on Freedom. My Freedom characters (including one of my 50s, yes) are among my least played because of the general atmosphere and (lack of) quality of players I run into there.

If I want to have a good experience, I play on other servers. If I want to experience what a bus full of kindergarteners on a sugar rush who've just learned a bunch of new four letter words is like, I go to Freedom.

All it takes is the time for me to pay rent on a base to remember why I don't play there much.

    [ QUOTE ]

I know, it sucks not being as good as us.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When "As good" would put the others at or near last place, no, no it doesn't. The only thing Freedom has is (too much) population.

    [ QUOTE ]

    Freedom is the best.

    At everything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Such as getting lots of lag around gathering points, being a pain to get into during doule XP weekend, broadcast spam...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    and this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh look, more Freedom haters. How unusual around these parts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Facts are obviously "hate." Right.

Not like, oh, with a double XP weekend coming up, anyone would want to steer him away from the "What, it's grey, I can't get in!" that we'll see a few hundred threads about over the weekend or anything. Or that any of us are speaking from experience with the Freedom server. Nah, must just be "hate."

  10. All servers have "at least" people on all the time. Freedom has the highest population (well, load,) yes, but there's a reason it gained the nickname "freedumb."

Pinnacle, Victory, Guardian and Infinity have all been good (as has virtue, really.) Not that I've had problems on any, really.
  11. Right click them before attacking. Read the info. You'll be able to see ahead of time which are Energy (and will pop MOG.)

Knockdown/back helps, as well - they won't mog when on their backs. And if you have a controller or dom... you're golden. Well, as long as they can get the hold on.

    [ QUOTE ]
I gotta go with the OP. I dislike grouping with MMs. (especially Thugs MMs). That said, having a top quality player at the helm makes a huge difference.

Here's a few things you can do that will make you less reviled.

    - in a full group, don't bother summoning your tier one pets - they are probably just going to get in the way. When the inevitable SHTF (stuff hits the fan) moment occurs, pull them out. They will arrive in defensive mode and save your hiney.

[/ QUOTE ]Doesn't work for Ninja MMs. The Genin are the real beasts there.

    [ QUOTE ]
    - Keep your pets on Ignore. That way, when the Corrupter who can't sit still snipes some guy and he responds with an AOE attack, your pets don't go tearing off across the room and screw up the pull.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm not getting eaten alive just to not "screw up the pull". The pets are on defensive, end of story. It's called "corner pulling" for a reason, and if you just haul off and snipe before letting people get around the corner, you botched the pull, not the others.

    [ QUOTE ]
    - During the fight, keep your guys on Ignore. This allows YOU to control who they are damging.

[/ QUOTE ]Hell no, that's the quickest way for an MM to eat dirt.

    [ QUOTE ]
    - You know those attack powers you have in your primary. Save those powers for soloing. They do next to no damage. Using them will only result in some enraged mob punching you in the face.

[/ QUOTE ]Okay, this makes sense....

    [ QUOTE ]
Since your guys are not in Defensive mode, you can't afford to be punched in the face.

[/ QUOTE ]Why don't you just tell the stalker and brute to turn off their armors? That's what your advice is so far.

    [ QUOTE ]
    - Do not assist the Brute. He does not want (or need) your help.

[/ QUOTE ]Do not assist the MM. He does not want, or need, your help.

    [ QUOTE ]
    - Focus on the mobs that are standing off and using ranged attacks. See that guy off to the side healing mobs. Kill him. Let the Brute deal with the scrum.

[/ QUOTE ]Can I have your global so I can avoid teaming with someone who wants MMs to do pretty much jack [censored]?

    [ QUOTE ]
    - When the Brute bites off more than he can chew and goes down in a hail of gunfire. That is your moment to shine. Forget everything I just said and save the day. Then heap scorn on the brute. Mock him as he begs you for a 'green or an orange' so he can make a wakie. Then give him the green, and rez him before he can combine them. Then mock him some more.

[/ QUOTE ].... Or actually play well, contribute, and keep people from dying in the first place. You know, being a good team player instead of following the worst MM advice I've ever seen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Torn apart very well. That was awful advice.

    idea for ae

    [ QUOTE ]
hey all i got a idea for AE. all people do is use it to farm right?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wrong.
  14. [ QUOTE ]

And the problem is I have never seen a good MM. Honestly, how CAN they be good I guess is what I'm getting at? All they can do is attack or not attack, they have almost no control over what their pets do, and the pets like to knock the crap out of a mob and send them flying. The only good thing they do is heal and buff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Turn this around -

Have you ever played a mastermind? Past the mid-20s?

"All they can do is attack or not attack" is wrong. The entire secondary is devoted to buffing or debuffing.

"They have almost no control over what their pets do" is wrong. That would be a Dominator. Even without actually LEARNING binds and such, they have at least three commands pre-set on character creation that control pets.

"and the pets like to knock the crap out of a mob and send them flying" is sometimes, but not always true. Look at *all* the primaries. Zombies don't send anyone flying. Little in Mercs sends anything flying. Bots have knockback, yes. Ninjas don't send anyone flying all that often (if ever.)

You've run into some bad players. Put the blame where it belongs - on *them.* Not the AT.

(Edit - and yes, I'm saying this from playing both.)
  15. "The European language?"

    >.<

<-- has books to finish. Currently reading Sundiver, Miracle at Midway and Juggler of Worlds. Yes, all at once. With Startide Rising and the Uplift War waiting in the wings.

Of course, I'd do that whether the forums were up or not.
  16. The markets are not shared blue to redside.

(Edit for clarification) - Typically, the only way you can transfer blue to redside is to give someone on one side some amount of INF, log out of that side, log in on the other and hope they actually show up to give the same amount back on the other side.
  17. 1. See Jay's Costume Request thread. He reads them. He's the one who makes them. And the suggestion/requests are in there, repeated many times.

    2. "eh." Though I do believe MA was listed (with SS) as limited customization - I have to look at the page again.

    3. *shrug* I'd be just as happy to have them just go away. Doesn't bother me.
  18. The Rikti drones will see you anyway, so toss that argument out the window.

Do you want Grant Invisibility? If so, grab the pool.
Stealth, Combat Invisibility and Phase Shift are available via PVP missions. (Phase Shift of a sort also being available via temp power.) Unless you're planning on using Stealth heavily, there's not much reason to look at the pool, IMHO.

    Slot SS. *shrug*
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I very rarely have worse then minor stuttering when loading at even the most crowded black market / wentworths. If you're having difficulty, you may want to consider upgrading your RAM (2 GB is great), turning down your particle effects in the options menu, or otherwise adjusting your graphical options so that they don't put such a huge strain on your system.

While it would be nice to see an improvement in the BM's efficiency, they're hardly the crash-inducing nightmare you seem to imply.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    /this.

And also, pick the less frequented BM/WW. I tend to prefer Sharkshead villainside and Kings Row heroside, in many cases, though Talos is more popular (and convenient) higher up blueside.

The initial load the first time you go to the BM is the only slowdown I see. (Not saying you *don't,* since obviously if you didn't you wouldn't have posted but there are other ways.)

Of course, others have suggested, say, being able to earn/craft/buy a Wentworths or Black market terminal for the SG base as well, which I wouldn't argue with. (As for the RP-esque "How do you ship goods you're buying?" argument... we teleport *ourselves* around, why would we not teleport goods?)
  20. Four things define a character to the devs:
    AT
    Primary powerset
    Secondary powerset
    Origin

    Not height, not gender, etc.

Of them, Origin "does" the least, as far as we know. Yes, in Alpha, it did a lot more. But it's not, on the other hand, just "window dressing." While many people use IOs, just suddenly switching origin would render DOs and TOs "incorrect." We don't know what sort of effect this would have on the character. Similarly, blueside at least, starting contacts are tied to origin (Kheldians excluded.) We don't know what sort of effect having an "invalid" contact would be.

They do also have effects on some temp powers - including which power is awarded, or extra effect. This could just be a check on the power, or there could be a separate power awarded when an origin that matches the bonus is noted. (I dont' *know* this, and doubt it's a separate power, but the possibility is there.)

Epics, of course, are tied *to* their origin. It's part of their backstory. They'd have to be excluded. *shrug*

I'm not against the idea, mind you - just pointing out that it *could* have more of an impact than first glance.
  21. But it wasn't disagreement with the primary idea. Mention of an exception and what I'd rather see first, true.

    Team wish list

    *points to server boards*

OK, not the same thing, I know, but it's one resource to use. And if you get a core there, they'll generally start mentioning it to their friends/SG mates/dogs/houseplants as well.

Wouldn't argue with seeing one in game as well, though.

(Oh, and /nitpick:typo - "wish" board. "Wich" only works in the sand. )
  23. The exception (to me) would be "chained" content - to lead you through a villain or villain group's story (see... well, just about everything that leads up to you fighting Countess Crey. Or her bodyguard, rather.)

And the nerf was not unjustified. Death to the 'speed katie!" was overdue, and if it is never looked at as a "speed reward" again, awesome.

I would, however, much rather see new content (and zones, and leveling paths) redside before seeing this. Just sayin'.
