Quote:This type of solution, IMHO, is better (though I'm personally fine with *re*moving the buildings from AP, Galaxy and Mercy.)Blocking characters under level 20 would get NC smacked around for false advertising, since AE was billed as an alternative means of leveling from 1 to 50.
That said, I prefer a more passive means of encouraging new characters to venture out and see the world first.
1: Don't actually make the AE contact pop up until 20.
2: Move the AE buildings in the lowbie areas (at least Atlas, Galaxy, and King's Row) to the more dangerous sectors of those zones.
3: If a lowbie does level up a few too many times in AE, have their starting contact phone them to politely chew them out for neglecting their responsibility to Paragon/The Rogue Isles). Or have the trainer in whatever zone they started in make the call. -
Quote:"Simply?" Prove it.*sigh* let me shoot you down one peg at a time...
Your attempts to discredit my programming knowledge nonwithstanding, how do you know a whole slew of changes are needed? A PvP flag already exists in the code. It gets turned on/off depending which zone your in. It's already there - no code needed. The additional code is simply adding new scenarios/events that turn the switch on.
Are the powers or the *zone* flagged as PVP on or off? Given they can strip effects (such as confuses) going between PVP and PVE zones, but not PVE-PVE, I'd say it's a very good guess it's the zone.
And as has been mentioned, how do you handle NPCs? They're JUST as affected by the zone code - my tanks can ignore COT mages, for instance, but Agony mages in BB (for instance) can hold my tank easily. PVP rules everywhere? No thanks. Not even on one server.
Here's an experiment. Take a Dominator and land a hold on a Brute in a PVP zone (it'd have to be Warburg, unless you can get confused.) Now go find a Succubus and land a hold on the same brute. Does it behave the same way on either side? I can tell you the answer right now, but let's see if you can figure it out.
"Simply," huh?
Completely different - and started that way from scratch.Quote:Nice. Perhaps if you had ANY experience programming. Lessee, I've created an application that handles Worker's Comp, Dental, and Medical Claims. Depending on how a user enters the application, the GUI interface and the reports can look dramatically different (Work Comp and Health have many diff. govt related rules). Many think it's two different programs.
And obviously COH has that same variable! Oh, wait, it doesn't? Imagine that. Obviously people type in information completely differently... no, wait...Quote:How do I control this look? Via a Single 1-byte variable. Despite the different look and behaviour, every single deployment of this application (now running in 26 different states) uses the Exact-Same-Code-and-Exact-Same-Database-Structure.
Quoting Arcannaville (from memory), who outside of the dev team has the best idea of the code:Quote:Oops, but I didn't do it using the game's code, so I don't know what the flip I'm talking about...
"If you think you know how the game works, you're wrong. If you think you know how it's coded from your own programming experience, you're really wrong."
Which server? Burn the hardware for the miniscule PVP population, or convert a current one? Convert a current one and you WILL lose players who are completely uninterested or even hostile to PVP. Because, after all, you were NOT told "what you're getting into" when you made those characters from one day to five years ago.Quote:You mean even if it's only allowed on one clearly marked Server where you know what you're getting when you make a toon there? Oh yeah, you don't even think it's possible...
The changes may have driven most *PVPers* away. Most players were uninterested if not hostile to it from the get-go. I've seen empty to near-empty zones on most servers since the PVP zones came out (and empty arenas before that.) Of course, masterminds doing no damage, having no roof on the villain hospital, no rez timer, etc. when they first came out also didn't help that - but other than Freedom, going into PVP zones on almost any server is a very low-risk activity the majority of the time.Quote:May or may not be true. I personally believe the PvP mechanics are broken (which is whole 'nuther issue). That's what drove most players away, not that they simply hate the concept of PvP period. -
Just picked up a nice Acer 22" widescreen (1680x1050) for my work system for about $169. The Viewsonic next to it (home system,) same size, was $350 when I bought it new a few years back. And I think the new one is nicer. (And not as deep - no cheapie speakers, for one.)

Hmmm... so many characters, so many names....
Feliney Assault gets a few comments (usually "You spelled felony wrong," some people get it when they finally see the character.)
Rosy of the Ice - don't play her much, but it's an anagram of City of Heroes.
Eh, I'd have to think about it. -

can you fill me in plz?
Edit: And for the OP, we had a "show off your UI" thread not too long ago, but heck if I can remember just where it was or what it was called. So, here's an example. And one with MM pets. -
Hmm.
Fire/Kin Corr from 35-38
Bane from 35-38
Ill/Sonic from 28-30
Two lowbie tanks to 14 (from 11 or so)
Mostly smatterings of levels here and there. No really huge gains. -
Quote:I feel the need to point out - this is not *other MMOs.* Other MMOs also tend to have you walking everywhere, or at best moving at a sprint. We don't.If "mounts" can be done in other mmo's then something like this could be done in coh/cov.
Tell that to every Peacebringer around. Or Manticore (taps into the med teleportation system.) Or to a bird. Natural does not mean "Natural human." Nor does it preclude one from using other technological means (jet boots, piston boots,) magical (winged boots) or the like for "a little help" while the rest of their powers - the core of their abilities - are "natural."Quote:This would also add more "realism" to the Natural origin heroes and villains since obvioulsy if ur making a Natural origin character it really dosent feel right or "natural" to be eventually using teleport, fly, super speed and such for a movement power.
The other bits of the suggestion are covered in the cut-paste. This portion of your basis for the suggestion, though, needed to be replied to. (I have no problem with "I'd like to see," mind you. But the "it doesn't fit a natural" just doesn't... well, fly.) -

Quote:/this.No.
Why? Because pvp across the world would make a TON of people quit. myself included.
Open world PVP has been discussed to death around here. Look at the fact that most pvp zones are quite vacant - none of them are ever really booming (and I'll make exceptions for Freedom's and during events).
That's as opposed to all the folks actually playing PVE.
PVP is not popular in this game, and probably never will be.
Allowing 'duels' would only allow griefing - /duel me!
/no thanks
/duel me!
/... no thanks
/DUEL ME YOU NUB!
/ignore
No fun.
It'd be way more work than it'd be worth and it would only make about 10% of the population (loose guesstimation based on pvp forum and ingame observation) 'happier'. But it would seriously lose a huge number of people who do NOT play open-world pvp, that's why I *like* this game: I can choose where and when I pvp and with whom.
So... /unsigned.
Heck, the PVPers don't seem happy with PVP as it IS. Then you want to (a) ignore the fact that there are many people out there that DON'T want to deal with PVP, or prefer that they can go in when they want and leave it when they want, and (b) spread out the PVP population, miniscule as it is, even *farther* (from four zones and the arena to *every* zone?)
No, no, a thousand times no. -
I give portraits of dead presidents to artists, and get portraits of characters back.
Sounds like a fair trade to me.

lol. Fangirl here
I have to admit- I didn't make much of an effort to head over to Test server for issue 15- The main feature, the task force would be useful for only two of my characters, as it is restricted to levels 45 and up. I don't think my scrapper or my brute would have made much difference in terms of testing. No fancy IO sets or special builds, nothing out of the ordinary.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same here, actually. Checked out everything *but* the task/strike forces, since they were (a) a big part of the issue and (b) I didn't want to 'spoil' it for myself when it hit live. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well that cleared up a lot. A lot of sets suddenly seem far less appealing now.

Are we about to lose all our private messages too?

Yeah we might bro, go save the ones ya want. That is the warning they are giving.

Check Leandro's threads - he has a nice, fast app to save them locally. -
The cleanup from elsewhere:
- Safe mode boot first
- Hijackthis
- RootRepeal
- Malwarebytes (installed in its own directory, installer renamed, executable renamed.)
- Combofix
... Don't think I've had anything nasty survive that run through. Takes a good bit of time though. -

what would be the best build for a brute.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's no "best", but as others have said, /Stone isn't for everyone. On the one hand, it's almost absurdly survivable. Once you get Granite slotted up, add in Tough and Weave (these are "pool powers" you can get access to at lvl 41), you'll be able to laugh off huge hordes of enemies that'd kill the rest of your team with ease.
[/ QUOTE ]
/nitpick
Tough and Weave, part of the Fighting pool, you can start building towards at level 6, with the top tier (Weave, IIRC) available from 20 IF you have two prior powers. So you could pick up, say, Kick at 8, Tough at (any level from 14 on,) and once you have two, Weave from 20, like any pool power.
Patron powers (which you have to do an arc to unlock) are available starting at 41. -
You can use any normal enhancement that matches your origin. (If you're not sure about your origin, go to Menu - Personal Info.) Also, hovering over the pet in the Enhancement screen will tell you which IOs and set types you can use.
Edit for clarity and example:
For instance, you're a Mutation mastermind. You can use TOs, DOs that share a Mutation origin, or Mutation Single origin (see wiki link below if you aren't sure what those are.) In addition, you can use any generic Invention Origin (invention: damage, for instance) the pet will take, as well as any set.
Looking here for instance (a Robotics MM) you can see that my Protector Bots can accept:
(generic)
Damage
Accuracy
End Reduction
Knockback
Defense
... and other IOs, as well as Pet Damage, Knockback and ToHit Debuff sets.
If I tried to fit another set that isn't listed (such as Miracle, a Healing set) in, it wouldn't take it. -
1. The light on top changes from red, to yellow, to blue as they get more and more damaged. If the health bar gets all the way full, they blow.
2. Yes. It takes a lot of people. There's no reward.
3. They spawn wherever there's someone around (and not under cover.)
4. Three badges, one for bombs, one for rikti, one for the assault suits. Get all three, get an accolade - see the wiki (don't recall the numbers.) -

what would be the best build for a brute.
[/ QUOTE ]
No such thing, really. Or, the somewhat cliche' but still true "The one you enjoy playing most." F'rinstance, my first villainside 50 was an Energy/Energy brute. Played mostly looking at single targets, like a "heavy Stalker" (it has some invisibility) it plays nicely. If you try to play it more tank-like (round up a bunch of enemies, stand in the middle,) you'll get beat on pretty badly.
Brutes run a whole range of playstyles. Try out what you have now, poke around in the Brute forums (and realize almost everyone thinks their build is godlike,) try out a few alts. -

Semi-off topic but still semi-on topic... Hm,
Is "Going Rogue" going to be an expansion, like CoV was to CoH, or is it going to be it's own Issue?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well definetly be an expansion. That is confirmed. Whether it's tied to an issue is unknown, but highly likely, IMO.

So there has been some speculation on the boards about the content of Issue 16, and its relationship to the Going Rogue expansion. Due to some poor link naming in the initial Going Rogue email, many of you are under the mistaken impression that Issue 16 will be Going Rogue.
I am here to set the record straight. Issue 16 is NOT Going Rogue.
