The difference is, though, that the enemies don't get a dialog box coming up asking "HealingFlame would like to shove a fireball in your face, do you accept? (yes) (no)," and even if an enemy (PVP-wise, at least, makes no difference in PVE) goes AFK, they can still be attacked.

A rez - barring, as mentioned, HT - should be given an instant, or faster, recharge if rejected, I agree. It's a bit of an irritant.

But you are right, I am a little prejudiced toward the blue side.

You also have to wonder about this. The original game had 5 ATs with certain alignments.
With COV we got 5 more, all with some variations on the old. Are there more ATs in our future ? Hmmm ? Who says we cannot add a 6th Basic AT to each side, then a 7th etc... etc...
The problem with this (and potentially what we'll see with GR) is one of muddying the waters a bit too much. That and, as mentioned - you don't want tank-mages. Give my Ice/ blaster a Defensive set and you're coming close, for instance - ranged damage, slows, two holds, an AOE and then defense? What would I really be worried about facing? Not much. We'll have to see how GR affects the game. I *know* I'll be bringing some Dominators over. I love the playstyle there.

That said, I'd think more ATs would be added in the form of epics (hopefully with actual storylines behind them instead of the VEAT nonsense - which are less an "epic" than cliff notes of a reader's digest version.) They're allowed a bit more flexibility, while being given other tradeoffs (and I wouldnt' argue with seeing another group to specifically hunt them, either.)

Well, as mentioned, I'm more on-board with the stun. I'd have to say this is more a PVE argument, too - PVP, if I'm remembering correctly, with a successful teleport the target is untouchable for a second or two because of how overpowering this could be to the teleportee (especially with, say, the old Energy Transfer queued and waiting, or the sometimes mentioned "TP chains") - on the other hand, they've also added TP resistance to some powers, and thrown TP protection into one PVP IO set. In PVP, I don't think anything should change. (The stun, FWIW, would probably be pointless there with the way mezzes are handled.)

I'm not hugely against the proposal, mind you. My argument was more with the reasoning given by Frederick for the change and how it sounded. That and, really, I don't particularly want recharge or accuracy adjusted to compensate - the bias there is mostly for my Warshades, TBH, with the similar power native to them. Missing when trying to separate a Void Hunter leads to pulling out a magazine. (And in that AT's case, it is half of an "i win" button, TBH, as Gravity Well is typically queued up with it.)
  7. I'd rather have the reminder system overhauled. I dont' care that it's paid and will be due - I don't have to budget for it. I want to know when the rent's finally due, sure. And when the lights will go out.

(Side note, I'd also like to see the infres conversion rate looked at. It's pitiful - then again, with people making "billions" on the market and via purple/PVP IOs, I'm sure some would consider it "just fine" since it can act as an INF sink - ignoring, of course, that it seems almost nobody uses it because the rate's so bad.)

This. More "true" widescreen support would be nice. I wouldn't mind a 16:10 stretching a 16:9 screen, mind you - and yes, multimonitor screens would still stretch. But they'd look better than whta they do to a 4:3 screen (which, TBH, looks odd to me now - I had a monitor go out and got a temporary replacement 4:3 screen. Everything looked "wrong" again after all this time. )

Unless we get a significant change to the underlying engine(s, depending on your definitions,) - that is, enough to define it as significantly original and different from what the game was developed with - I'd expect to see the Cryptic logo for some time to come.

Many of these examples we already have in standard ATs. If you don't want to play redside, you just have to wait for GR - since you have them in Dominators (Controllers with melee and ranged attacks.)

Range+high defense... isn't going to happen naturally. With IOs, perhaps, but it's one of those combos that has high probability to trivialize content - the "tank-mage." Unless you really like being blue, I wouldnt' hold your breath.

The entire post in general I agree with, but this line especially. I know the Midnighter entrances blueside are all in universities, but that doesn't *have* to hold true redside. Having an entrance in one of the 35+ content zones would be nice - sure, it might not make sense in Grandville, given how tightly controlled everything is, but given the interest in the Rikti, maybe Vanguard agreed to add a portal and mini-library there. Or with the COT presence in Nerva, perhaps they decided to have a presence there. I don't think there needs to be three entrances, but a second one would be helpful.

Blueside, honestly, I think is fine.

  12. Sounds interesting, and a better update than some.

The only thing I'm not particularly fond of is the AV and prisoners. I don't find Scrapyard *all* that fun - well, other than on my plant/thorn, from the masses of scrapyarders. Not all that sure about having EBs come along to help, either.

Wouldn't argue with having the flyer, and the occasional EB rampage. The AV, I think I'd go for some sort of trigger event - either that or have them exclusive. If an EB is still out causing trouble, the AV won't show. If the AV's out, no flyer. (Potentially.) Just to keep it somewhat mixed up (as opposed, again, to the "Eternally spawning Scrapyard.")

    Generally, though, sure, sounds fun.

Actually, no, I won't be. See, I have these funny things called "Friends" who happen to play the game*, as well as the in game character-centric and global friends *lists,* multiple supergroups and global channels. Some of them also have websites to plan and schedule events. I also realize that this is precisely that - a game - and that I don't happen to *need* anything related to it except the feeling of entertainment value for my money. When that no longer exists, I'm no longer in the game.

but..if it is okay with all of you...i still find myself...not caring..what you all think : )
There's that attitude again. Think that may, potentially, be part of the reason people don't team with you? Besides, if you didn't care, why did you bother to make the post in the first place?

*and several others, which we jump between often - sometimes on the same night. L4D is a favourite "everyone get together after our various days at work and slaughter stuff" one. Even if we're not playing the same thing, we're usually talking to each other via IM. Perhaps you should look into making some friends of your own.
  14. And why, precisely, does Teleport need an attack power, or TP foe need to be "an attack" - other than "everyone else has one?" (Which, IMHO isn't a very strong reason.)

Don't get me wrong, I think the disorient portion on a successful TP Foe makes sense - moreso than having them show up, weapon ready and firing at you. I just don't particularly see the need for it being an *attack* as well (when, likely, it would mean something else about the power being reduced.)

    - They're not professional, really - even if I like what they're doing, and
    - I have a *digital* copy. Not a piece I can hang on the wall without printing it out.

Meanwhile, I look over and I've got two physical pieces of art from Sorah. And a couple from Graver. They cost more, yes, but they're of a different caliber and I had different expectations (which, frankly, were met.)

Do I feel Sorah or Graver charged too much? Nope. But that's my personal call. Someone else may feel it's not worth the money - hey, great, that's their call, too. Doesn't mean either one of us are wrong, as long as we're happy with the result.
  17. First 50, an elec/elec blaster, I'm pretty sure stayed on Heroic. Of course, that was also when we had big content gaps, no newspapers, no Croatoa... 500-some hours.

I tend to bump mine up these days.
  18. First, OP, drop the attitude. Unless you *like* getting it back.

Second, I may be ignoring you because I'm logging out and have 5 seconds to go. I'm not stopping that to type a reply. I may be doing massive base editing. I may just not see your tell. I work from home, and sometimes have COH running for times there are long pauses with nothing to do - and sit inside a mission not seeing anything for an hour between those slow times.

And yes, I *am* one of those who ask for an invite first. If a polite refusal gets your panties in such a twist, too bad. Just because I ask for an invite first does not mean I'm under any obligation to accept said invitation. You don't pay my subscription, I don't have to sit for X hours a day waiting for you to show up for the "pleasure" of teaming with you. I don't have to tell my family "Sorry, can't go to dinner, just got an invite to team from someone I don't know." I may actually BE playing with my friends/SG mates - imagine that, actually telling the truth with one of the very lines you're whining about. Hell, I may just not want to team at that particular moment. I play with a variety of people - including one who has a four month old baby. Think she might, possibly, have to go AFK, log out, etc. suddenly? Oh, look, another reason to turn your invite down.

You want people to team with you? Make sure the attitude you show in game is NOT what you're showing here. Get a core group that plays at the same time, and add PUGers to that (or not.) But I'll tell ya, from what I'm reading from you right now? If I saw an invite pop up from you, it'd be a fast /ignore in return. I prefer *enjoying* my gaming time, and you're sure not sounding particularly enjoyable to team with.

With modern file systems, file extensions aren't treated specially, it's all just one string.

This was your completely superfluous tangent of the day. You may proceed with your discussion of this idea, which I support.
... honestly, extensions should be dead and gone. IIRC, back when I was using OS/2, they were used for the sake of compatibility - the metadata with each file said what could open it. That was a good decade ago and more. The old Apple OSes were the same way - OS X brought back extensions, even though it hides them. (Not sure how "needed" they are, but they're there.) Pretty sure BeOS dumped them too.

... yes, I used to run a host of OSes for the heck of it. 5-6 at one point on one machine. (DOS, 95/98, BeOS, OS/2, and usually some flavor of pre-GUI Linux. which typically didn't last long, or something in beta. I liked Be and OS/2. *shrug*)

    2. My personal choice would be to fix the in-game editor first so that its able to save room/base layouts.
      1. Add an in game test mode, possibly through AE consoles that allow anyone to load up the saved BaseBlueprint to look at bases, these would be functional in the sense that you could walk around and all the items would be visibly functional. Although it would be like visiting someone else's base so no interaction.
      2. Allow player interaction with the .pigg files. Or release a base art pack which would include all the models/textures/etc for base editing.
      3. With the pack release a basic - not much better than the in-game - editor that allows you to load/save BaseBlueprints.
      4. That would allow a player generated offline editor which would remove the essential need for Dev generated updates.
Having the on- and offline editors be the same - linked, as it were - would, to me, be a better solution. Same interface, most likely, same resources, but one gets to be used when there's no link to the game. Plenty of time to fiddle with stuff in a safe environment (IE, no impact on the actual base.)

We both agree the in game editor needs *help.*
    Quote:
    1. However if not the above.
      1. Ignore the ranking issue in SGs, that can be solved by people it doesn't need a code solution.
The issue with this, to me, is having "too many cooks." Having someone just come along and say "Ooh, I know what would look great" and redo hours or days of work. Yes, there's a base editing permission now - and that should stay for minor edits (for example, "If you're high enough rank, go ahead and add another enhancement bin if we need one" or the like.) But allowing someone to overhaul the entire base - that should be more restricted. At least to me.

Besides, they've already shown with storage the willingness to add finer-grained control - to the point of making individual racks, bins, etc. available to only certain ranks.
    Quote:
Dev time spent on a minority activity, that currently not many have the time/prestige/SG for.
Which could be a way to grow that activity - and how many people don't have an SG base? It would let more people become involved, after all. It helps the "time" problem, as you dont' have to be hooked up to the game (if work allows it, bring in a laptop. On a trip? Play with the base while someone else drives/the plane's in the air, etc.) Prestige isn't really an issue - yes, it can be slow building for some, but being able to say "Hey, guys, stay in SG mode, and we can do THIS" could be a heck of a carrot. And SG... well, level 10.

Also, if the devs ever follow up on the "individual apartments" idea, well - yet more use for it.
  21. I wouldn't argue with this, in general. A few random meandering thoughts, however -

    1. If this solves the "teleporter shuffle," I'm *all* for it. (By which I mean, you have the Prestige for the next highest room up, but not the space. You can delete the teleporter rooms, of course, but without someplace to put the porters - or any built, or in-use storage object, for something harder to replace - it's a bit frustrating since you have to rebuild them. (And for something like, oh, a salvage bin or enhancement bin, you can't "rebuild" what's in there.) Being able to put down a design and have it just *switch* to it would be nice.

    2. There would have to be some indication of power/control, of course (given it's an offline version, it should be able to simulate and calculate the usage anyway) as well as pricing.

    3. Using it online within the mission builder wouldn't be bad. Just call it a base editor upgrade.

    4. I can, potentially, see it causing some angst in some groups - just like the superleader did, though that seemed to die off quickly. OTOH, there's been the occasional "Architect rank" (which would have to take your "Builder" title, or "Base architect" title) thrown around, which I wouldn't argue with seeing. It should also be able to be opened up to multiple people - if nothing else, for the sake of alts.

    5. I don't really see a reason to restrict it to active accounts. It could be a sales "hook" - and unlike the costume editor, I can't see issues with copying "copyrighted bases."

    6. <nitpick> The game can handle larger file extensions. (See .customvillaingroup, .storyarc.) For clarity, why not just use .baseblueprint or .blueprint or something similar? Less likely that it'll be hijacked by another program that way.
  22. Not going to fiddle with numbers and percentages, as there are others far more mathematically inclined (to say that's too much or too little, too often or too rare.)

We know the devs have mentioned looking at ways of improving 50s without touching the level cap. These, in general, sound like they may be right in line with that sort of planning. The only one I'd be wary of at first read through is picking one of any power, even once, to have as an inherent. Just a sense that could be... troublesome.

    Time for Change?

First, dismissing any argument against your idea before it comes is a lazy, poor way to argue. If you don't believe your idea has any flaws that can be pointed out other than "it's always been that way, don't change," you haven't thought it through very well. There are solid reasons, in this case, for maintaining the status quo.

Second, for your example - and yes, this is nitpicky, but if you're going to use an example, use it properly. THe Wright Flyer - the actual name of the aircraft - had two, not three wings, one motor, two propellers, and just barely flew. We do not call aircraft "Wright Flyers." On the other side, we do not refer to all aircraft as "Jets," as that is incorrect. A jet is a subset of the vehicle type "Aircraft," as is "Glider," which has no propulsion of any sort, "Ultralight," "Propeller driven" (some of which use turbojets, some of which use radial or in line engines - or more esoteric solar or other power plants,) "Blimp" and such. All of these are variations of aircraft. Airplanes are subsets of aircraft, jets are subjets of airplanes, and you can get more picky such as ramjet, scramjet, turbojet, turboprop, axial or centrifugal flow, with or without afterburner, super, sub, or hypersonic, and so forth. However, they are all still "Aircraft."

On the flip side of that, Boeing just recently sold its 6000th 737 model airliner. It has had massive improvements throughout the years, but all civilian models carry the 737 moniker. THey have sub-versions (the 737-500, 600, and IIRC 700 all being considered "next generation" versions of the 737.) Why do they do this? Partially from brand recognition and model recognition - but partially to show improvement and variations.

I'll also point out that authors have done this in reverse - Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman - specifically to "break" his branding. Part of it was due to publisher limits, and part of it was to see how a non-"Stephen King" book would do ("talent or luck," as I recall.)

Similarly, we've had two "models" - City of Heroes, and City of Villains. These have ended up being combined into a ... let's call it "slashed" City of Heroes/City of Villains. All releases since COV have been "sub-versions," keeping the known, recognized branding - City of Heroes Good vs Evil edition, City of Heroes Mac Edition, City of Heroes Architect Edition, and coming up, City of Heroes: Going Rogue.

If you just saw a box on the shelf that said, say, "Architect," would you have ANY inkling - short of having visited the site - that that was a City of Heroes product at first glance? The City Of... branding ties the entire franchise together.

For that reason, no, the City Of franchise does not need renaming.

    Directly against your proposals?
    - Rogues. What about those not purchasing COH: Going Rogue? What about those whose heroes (or villains) cannot be classified as a "rogue?"

    - City of Heroes and Villains. It's technically wrong, as there's no one city. In fact, with GR, there are three.

    - City of Rogues. Again, it's technically incorrect, and doesn't really describe what GR is about - it's not a "city of rogues," but the process of "going rogue" - breaking out of the defined role to change (fall/redeem.)

    - Heroes and Villains, and WOrld Of - This is just... eh.

I realize those were just thrown out there - but why break the brand and marketing when it's got five years of solid history behind it and is easily recognizable?
