And that's what business of yours exactly? You're just as bad as Mr. "No more martial arts!" "No more anime!" "No more guns, use real superhero stuff!" elsewhere on the board. Guess what, sparky, you're not the only one playing this game.

If YOU don't like them, don't use them. It's not your place to decide what anyone else does.

    Shield charge!

They're Trick Arrow. Everyone's going to be covered in glue and nets.

    Shield charge!

EIther works. Just chuckling at beating the heck out of people with a shield.
  4. Yes. I can't recall it working for very long at all.

The one at the character select screen does, at least. (And for anyone interested, "Riptide Nosehair," the name I tested, is available on Infinity.)

Just how low is the drop rate, anyhow?
I don't know about the rate. I do know some people did farm them, yeah. I saw (at one point) a bunch of people at the villain base just continually AOEing a group of their alts and friends alts, standing by the vendor in bloody bay so the targets could just keep buying breakfrees.

    Very irritating.

Happened to Citadel a while back, too.

Looking at what we have, in game, now, we already have monsterous faces that project out a bit. Looking at one of the breathers from the science pack, it's not even limited to "Must be within X of face," as it reaches down and attaches to the chest.

There may be a limit to how far forward something can project, but even within currently visible models I can see multiple dog, bird, etc. styles as possible.
  9. /signed.

Not least because I'd love to get some ancient gods (and ancient-god-derived characters) in game. I have wanted a bird head, a decent dog head, snake head, etc. for a long time. (And I'm not that fond of the female reptile head.)

Actually, I asked jay about this - eh, maybe six months ago. The response, as I recall, was that it was a matter of time and priority - new costume pieces vs redoing a bunch of the old ones.

(I'll also second the "annoyance at replacing old pieces" - not only does it involve a tailor charge to replace the piece as *well* as color, and sometimes cause issues with the menus, but I remember *all* too well having skirts "upgraded" (gaining the molded-to-the-butt look)... and no longer being able to put patterns on them for several issues. Should be around I5 that that happened.)

Personally - I'd take "some old, some new" as far as new pieces. For instance, female-tops with skin - straps doesn't match up on the sides. (think that's the one.) It could use a little depth. Put the old in a "classic" if they want, give us a new one that matches (with a bit of depth,) and some new piece as well. Slowly work through several of the pieces that way (especially the ones with rough, jagged edges and the like.)

To no-one's surprise, they were taken back then, too. The "good" names got snatched on day 1, and by May 2004, they were already gone. Veterans are in now way, shape or form more fortunate than new players. Certainly a select few people luckied out, but there weren't more names back in 2004 than there are now. Believe me, I've tried.

Good names are not getting fewer and fewer. Good names went as soon as the game opened its doors. OBSCURE names are what's getting fewer and fewer, but there are so gosh-dang many of those left they aren't running out any time soon. True, even some blindingly obvious names could have slipped through the cracks (I got "Bodyshop" a couple of weeks ago, much to my amazement), but what slipped through hasn't really decreased much since then.

Finding a good name now is no easier than it was back in 2004. The people who claim it is would have had just as much trouble back then. That much I can guarantee.
OK. What is a "good" name? Because I'd almost put money down that, if there weren't a copyrighted character called "Batman" and someone made it, someone else would be pointing at it and saying "yawn, lame name, dude." Or "Storm" would be distinctly non-creative (and honestly, it is a boring name.) The names are "exciting" because we have years - decades, even - of back-history with these characters. If Spiderman weren't copyrighted, how many Bane Spiders (or, really, any of the VEATs) would we have running around with that name and variations on it?

There's also the "Comic book names aren't like this" argument (combined with "I shouldn't have to put something in front.") I'd say for every "That's not a real/good/etc hero name" argument someone puts out, you can find multiple examples of characters with *those very name types.*

So, no, I don't believe all "good" names are taken. Not even close - not least because "good" is purely subjective. Not even all "blisteringly obvious" names are taken, good or not. The day nobody can make any name (including, say, my Battle Machine (tactical) model 118-B, aka BMT 118B, who - being a machine - never got a 'name' of its own,) then we can talk about throwing globals on.

My suggestion would be, if you think someone's comment is good, there's nothing wrong with posting in the thread. Same if you think their idea is a poor one. The kind of fungus that have posted some rep comments I've heard about can't stand the light of day, so they won't post in the open. Problem eliminated.
    /this, many times over.

If you don't want to "gum up the thread" with a simple I agree, and can't think of something else to put with it (like why, for instance,) then PM the person.

Also (at least on my masterminds) I find they'll eventually "rejoin" the team, in some instances. (I don't recall if they found something to attack or not when it happened.) I've looked over to see a full group, but only "own" one or two of them, and as I go to the next mission, I'll slowly get a few back. Doesn't always happen though.

    More traffic o.o

While the cars do drive through each other, they don't drive through *you.* I've been shoved out of range by a car, for instance, and it's annoying. More traffic? More cars to try to avoid. Forget getting to fight in the street. (See also "Defeat 30 Tsoo for Serge.")

And of course, this would primarily (and heavily) affect heroside. Redside? There are barely roads.

Can't say I agree with this. (Not least because the shoving bit reminds me of how *exceptionally irritating* the old, pre-mayhem bank missions, with banks full of civilians that didn't run out, but would happy run into you and shove you around, were.)

So say why. That, by the way, is exactly why we've been told that's frowned on - "fluff" posts (/agree, /no, /jranger.) Oh, and yeah, adding the "idiot" to the end pushes it into "personal attack," technically.

Use the star system on the thread. You have another way to indicate "I've read the thread and approve/disapprove" if that's all you've got to say. Of course - you can always PM the person if you don't want to add comments to the thread, again.

It just seems to me the only reason anyone could want a completely optional system to be removed is because they're angry they get bad comments. If you care about e-rep so much that you can't turn it off and never look at comments, stop being a jerk and act nice.
Except, of course, that it has decided to be open after closing. And that people aren't just reacting to someone "being a jerk." And that others are being abusive and violating forum rules. (With the added "bonus" of being anonymous.) Assuming it's someone "being a jerk" and getting neg-repped in response - well, you know what they say about assuming.

I don't know - would any of the "not synergizing well with Ice" really work well with... well, most controllers? I mean, many times if I'm doing that, I'm picking it specifically for a *task* versus synergy - namely team support.

Going back to my Ice/Emp - what actually synergizes with AA? Not a heck of a lot. What synergizes with the set? (And I'm talking "just solo" here, not "how does it play with a team" or "versus GMs" or any specific situation - the primary and secondary in isolation.) Not much. While the self heal and RAs are all well and good for keeping yourself alive, and Jack can still play nicely with Fortitude - that's true of almost everything with Empathy.

Heck, if I take advantage of dual builds, it doesn't matter if I'm a controller or a defender, I can create a solo build that ignores most of Empathy (and Thermal, Sonic, FF, a chunk of Cold, etc. to varying degrees.) I know because I've *done* so.

I'd say, frankly - look at role as much as (secondary) powerset. I'll point out, again, my ice dom. In melee quite a bit, doing damage and mixing it up on a regular basis - that puts AA in a totally different level of priority over (again) the ice/emp. Both are busy characters. But they're busy doing very different things.

They're student versions of the upgrade, for the first two. So I could see that being why you don't have both, sure.

Two words for you. I'm sure you can guess what they're wrong. Think bovine and what they leave behind - and we're not talking hamburger, folks.

    Costume: Free.
Issue 11 - Nov 28, 2007 we got 16 female hair styles, and 19 male. (See Paragonwiki.) Weapon customization is also introduced. As it affects your look but not your powers, and is altered via the tailor, I'm fully comfortable calling it a "Costume option." Affects 12 powersets.

Issue 12 - 5/20/2008. Talsorian weapons added. Roman costume pieces added. Also, while not a 'costume piece,' the costume creator gives premade sets with linked pieces. And a list from the wiki/patch notes:
    • Many new chest details have been introduced:
      • Alien 1
      • Alien 2
      • Bulls Eye 2
      • Cyber Eye
      • Health
      • Lion
      • Mantis
      • Nuke
      • Power On
      • Question Mark
      • Recycle
      • Skull 3
      • Star 10
      • Star 11
      • Star 12
      • Star 13
      • Star 14
      • Swirl 3
      • Symbol 8
      • Symbol 9
      • Symbol 10
      • Tech Hole
      • Trash
    • New Body Patterns sets
      • Arctic
      • Perplex
      • Thorn
      • Vandal

Issue 13 - 12/2/2008. "Day job" and casual costumes - MULTIPLE costume pieces added, all free. "Official," multiple blazers/coats/jackets and more.

Issue 14 - 4/8/09. Mission architect. Sole focus of the issue. So there's ONE issue with no costume bits.

Issue 15 - 6/29/09. Over 20 new faces and two full costume sets. Plus the costume change emotes, which - while they debuted with a paid set, have seven (five normal, two Kheld specific) that are 100% free. And, of course, we now have "cosmetic surgeons" who can change your *body type* as well. Go ahead and tell me that has nothing to do with looks (IE, costumes.)

Issue 16 - Power customization - which, yes, I throw in with "costume" for the same reason as weapon customization. Purely aesthetic.

So, to put it bluntly, you're full of it, OP.

Which is part of what this hinges on. Are your powers *coming from* your patron, or just taught *by* them? Mako's arc, as I recall, has him going after the "power of the leviathan," hinting it's external to him. Scirocco doesn't teach you *his* powers, but opens up the powers of the Mu. Black Scorpion gives you technology - in most instances, you're even weilding a mace... without a long extension cord to Mako's armor.

Which is why I tend to stand on "You're learning, not borrowing."
    Quote:
And yes, I do think that's inconsistent with being able to choose from any Patron Pool after doing just the one arc. I'm not writing this game, so I'm not making the rules.
This is true, RP wise, I agree. But gameplay wise, especially with changes made to the PPPs and with heroes not having permanent APPs, it was really a better choice to allow them to be respecced. It's one time gameplay has to trump RP - RP took precedence for some time, and was a distinct point of contention with the villainside population.

Now, if you need an RP reason - by the time you're done with your patron (45-46, if you do the destiny arc right away,) you've not only defeated a patron of equal power to the others, but you've spanked Recluse, quite literally handing him his head. You've got the standing to walk up to another one and say "Hey, shorty, tell me what you know" and the strength to back it up.
  22. Memphis_Bill

    name change

The forum is (supposedly) permanent, now, but you could always PM avatea or niviene - there was a post (in Announcements, I believe) just after the EU and NA forums were merged that gave instructions on how to get a change, as well, since people had _NA and _EU appended if there was a conflict. Not sure if that's still going.

Now, in game - do you mean the global? It can (supposedly) only be changed once - but you can check to see if it'll let you by going under your Menu in-game.

Upgrade and retail should have both 32 and 64 bit in the same package. Same license key and everything.
