PVP IO Drops

Do PVP IO recipes only have a chance of dropping when you defeat another player? I thought when they first came out I read that you might get a recipe if you are defeated by a player. The prices of PvP recipes are so high that I'm actually tempted to set foot in a zone. I don't much mind being a punching bag if I'm being that well paid, but if I have to win a fight to get a recipe then I'd be wasting my time. I am teh luzer at pvp.

They only drop when you defeat another player, and they're very, very rare.

peterpeter, for a 25% cut, I will stand there with all my toggles off and a tray full of Awakens.

Additionally a certain amount of time must pass between kills for it to count (in order to make DumpleBerry's suggestion less viable). I think that it's 10 minutes but I'm not sure.

Oh, I was mostly kidding. I know that the cooldown delay prevents farming fairly effectively.

Mostly kidding.

It makes sense if you think about it. You have to be good at PvP and be able to kill people so you can get drops to be good at PvP.

...Wait, what?

But it raises a good point. We know people farm for purples and tickets and merits and badges and pretty much everything else that can be gotten in game. There must be people who do whatever can be done to farm these things, right? I guess you can't really macro it, or leave it unattended the way people did with the healing farms and stuff. Still... it surprises me that they are still so rare and expensive. I guess part of it may be that the people who get them don't ever sell them?

Just how low is the drop rate, anyhow?

I don't know about the rate. I do know some people did farm them, yeah. I saw (at one point) a bunch of people at the villain base just continually AOEing a group of their alts and friends alts, standing by the vendor in bloody bay so the targets could just keep buying breakfrees.

Very irritating.

I believe the PVP recipe drop rate is equivalent to the chances of a minion dropping a rare (orange) recipe. I can't recall off the top of my head the chance of that, though... 1 in 500 sounds about right, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to correct me.

Timer is currently 5 mins, it was reduced from 10.

Is that by character or account? Could I get killed, alt, get killed, alt, get killed, and rotate like that?

it's character so ya you could keep switching alts

Yep.

It basically keys off the reputation timer.

Did they finally reduce the PVP Rep timer as well, or is that still stuck at 10 min?

Per character. And it would be more like, "Kill target, alt, kill target, alt, kill target." Getting killed gets you two things: Jack and squat. And if Kurt Russell is to be believed, Jack just skipped town.

What were the breakfrees for?

I was thinking that all the farming would happen in arena events, so no one would interfere, but I'm not sure how respawning works. If you are defeated in an arena match, do you automatically respawn or do you get the opportunity to self-rez? Is it the same in zones? On most servers I guess you don't really need to worry about being bothered if you hide in an out of the way corner of the zone.

The recharge on something like the wimpy /regen self-rez might be around the same as the cooldown period. Just have a suicidal regen with revive on auto stand next to a spines/dark scrapper with the damage auras on and spine burst on auto. Walk away. Come back in a week. Collect recipes.

It would be against the rules, and I'm not suggesting it, but I wonder why other people aren't already doing it?

No, I know that. I'm plotting ideas for farming with a friend where they kill and I alt.

They are. and its likely the largest provider of PVP recipes on the market right now.

With a slight variation i could set up soemthing like this

My account 1 - killing character say a fire troller
My account 2 - lamb
Wifes acount 1 and 2 - lambs

3 'lambs' to be slaughtered by the fire imps, should get 3 chances For a drop every 5 mins, assumign they all spawned close together. (set up as a 3 -v- 1 team match they should).

this would work afk, or slightly more efficiently with a live player, but it is as dull as ditchwater and then some.

I don't pay attention to PvP, so I might have glossed over it in the Patch Notes. But I do vaguely recall some broadcast chat discussing PVP IO drops being removed from Arena matches to hinder farming. My search-fu is weak so I can't find a Patch Note reference at the moment.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

I would estimate the drop rate for PvP recipes to be much higher. Perhaps in the ballpark of 1 in 50.

Brain lapse. I meant awakens.

If you don't rez yourself (as I recall,) you respawn in something like 10 seconds in the arena. Then (again, from memory) you're phased for a few seconds so you can set up, and you're a valid target again.

The problem with doing it in an arena, of course, is getting enough people to have the timer not be an issue. So, yeah, zones are where I usually see people doing this.

Zones... I'm not sure. You can self-rez, if you want (and get killed again - thus the farms,) go to the hospital - I *thought* I remembered seeing a note about an automatic hospital trip, but don't quote me on it. Don't feel like digging through patch notes at the moment. An out of the way corner usually works.

Well, except you're also subject to the inactivity timeout and such - not to mention network crashes, maintenance, someone killing off the spines and the regen...

It's actually not against the rules - it's just very irritating when people do it *right on top* of the villain contacts, so people who aren't interested try to do something and become the target of an 8 (or more) on 1 slaughter. (And since they've been working on PVP IOs already, expect some to have TP resistance and the like.) Of course, you can also call in a team of your own, but still. Others will go to a quiet part of the zone and do it on their own.

The part that I think is against the rules is playing the game "unattended". Leaving your characters to plink away at each other while you are AFK. I could be wrong, but most MMO's have a problem with that.

I can't abide boredom well enough to be a farmer, but maybe I'll tip-toe into a zone and see what I see.

Ahh. That example, sure. The one I was mentioning had people actually there doing it.

They are not removed, but they are on the same 5 min 'rep' timer as in the zones.

In a team-v- team environment, this means the team will generally get a maximum of 2 chances per opposing character per 10 min match. (16 in total in a 8 -v- 8).

Your rep timer is set by kills by a team-mate

Staying dead for 2 minutes sends you to the hospital automatically.

Drop rate is seemingly somehwere between 1 in 50 and 1 in 100. Back when arena farms were still profitable I was averaging 60 kills per 30-minute match and usually got one recipe per match. Don't really know what the rate is now that they're tied to rep, although many people I've spoken with believe that the rate is lower than it used to be.
