Of the 50s, probably not, actually. Doesn't "fit" them very well. At most, they'd be vigilante - and that's more likely the original (but lower level) version of one of my PBs who lives over on Virtue.
-
Quote:Ooh...Well, we could always turn the thread into a mini poll - people can post how many 50s they have, and then how many of them they're planning to either switch over fully, or move into Vigilante/Rogue status.
Um. I've lost track. At least 13 (one of each AT/EAT except Corruptors, and that one's close.) Two controllers, two tanks, two defenders... Let's just say "a bunch." Only one planned to switch, either partially or fully, and that's my MA/Regen Stalker. -

Quote:I just make it a point to bring inspirations. *shrug*It's possible they may have changed FF a little since the zone revamp, and maybe it's easier to take him solo with the new difficulty settings. It's been a long while since I took a character through the Hollows arc so maybe I should go see if he's still as bad as I remember before shooting my mouth off about it.

Quote:/this.Characters. Period.
Let me elaborate a little. When I build my teams, I state the following in the relevant channels: "level XX team: X spaces"
I don't ask for ATs. I don't ask for Powersets. I don't ask for anyone to even be in that level span (thank you SSK). I just ask that they join in and play.
The problems I've run into have been problems with players ("Don't pull with Rain of Fire." "k" *pulls with rain of fire." "No, I said don't do that." "k" *pulls with rain of fire* *kicks*) not ATs. Every AT helps. No, they don't all generate giant orange numbers. So what?
/this. *having just finished Gaussian's arc quite handily with my low-damage Earth/FF 'troller yesterday.*Quote:Originally Posted by Bill Z BubbaNo, Heraclea, I was not asking you that. How would "more reliable information" (given the information given has been pretty damn straightforward) help if you can't be bothered to read the whole thing? (Like the "Will be released earlier if it's ready earlier" for UM?)
-
Quote:Incorrect. You're spinning the facts a bit, my dear.
Before Issue 17 was announced, Ultra mode was promised as a major feature of the retail expansion pack, Going Rogue. When Issue 17 was announced, that was no longer the case. So off the retail pack came Ultra Mode and in its place comes the first level of the Incarnate system (with the other 9 levels to come at a late date).
At - was it the prior Herocon? When it was first announced, they said *flat out* that if Ultra mode was ready earlier, it would be released earlier. It was not "Only with GR." -
What it seems to be, quite often, is when pretty much *any* sort of debuff hits them, they'll run. Cold, defense, tohit, whatever it is, it seems the second it touches them, some enemies will take off for the other side of the map. (Especially annoying in, say, a timed "Kill all war wolves" mission. You know how they like trees.)
Not all seem to do it, but it's frequent enough. -
And the other way around. I moved some from Freedom and Virtue to Victory, actually. It and Pinnacle are my main servers... no problems finding people.
-
Yeah, /seconding the "Take fitness." While I tend to think of AA as not all that needed (depending on secondary) for Controllers, for a Dom - especially a /psi -you're going to be in close, and you're going to want it. Yes, between Domination and the Drains you can keep END coming in pretty well - but you'll still want fitness. At least IMHO.

/this.
Also, /Lemur Lad, for history.
That said, I'd have no problem with "Trial accounts that have not been converted to paid accounts after 90 days will have their names freed." They're already limited, of course, to how high they can level and whatnot (though I don't recall if there was a limit to pre-RMTfest trials,) so what the impact would be - I couldn't say. -
Nope. Been using it since its beta, without a problem.
You may want to post up in the tech forum. -
Quote:Um - that entry is actually based on my guide.Okay just checked the Paragon Wiki entry on Kheldians. It indicates in there that at unbonded Peacebringer lives for about 10 years; Nictus possibly only for 5. (Knew I had seen that somewhere), and that it appears that the hosts obtain a longer lifespan as well.
And I worded it specifically to indicate there's nothing in the lore that backs up the lowered lifespan for Nictus.
Compare it to some of the other portions that either refer to specific Kheldian arcs (such as (Shadow Science) at the end of some references,) or quote specifically from arc dialog or information.Quote:Some have said the Nictus lifespan was reduced to 5 years, but this is unverified.
Just to clear that up.

Quote:Also, some malware will actually delete mbam.exe on install, before you get a chance to rename it. There is a link that will let you download a randomly-named version of *just* MBAM - save it to the malwarebytes directory. (The download file, not the link, obviously.)Ok, some things to try.
Before anything else run hijackthis and check those entries back blast listed. The w4sgeen9.exe shouldn't need fixing. I downloaded the file and scanned it with multiple scanners and it came up negative so it's likely exactly what it is suppose to be, a program that checks for product compatibility. Have hijackthis fix those entries.
Now some other suggestions. Put a copy of hijackthis on your desktop and give it a different name like hijackthat.exe, then run it again and post the results. Even though when you run hijackthis it says it must be run in it's own directory there are several virus and trojans which will block it from fully running if they see it on the drive. I don't know if superantispyware can run the same way but I would try it just to be sure.
Second. Try going to trendmicro.com/housecall
Some programs which are very good a redirecting or blocking downloads of full antivirus solutions won't block remote site scanners. You still have to download a small program to use housecall but it might not be blocked.
Third. Try downloading antivirus solutions from Download.com. A virus that blocks the home page of an antivirus site usually doesn't block program collection sites. The first one you should try from there is malwarebytes and I might as well give you the link to that here http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebyte...html?tag=mncol
Once malwarebytes is installed (if you can get it installed) go into the malwarebytes directory and rename mbam.exe to something else .exe. It will still run. I actually keep two copies of the program on my system named mbam.exe and bomb.exe just because some virus programs do stop mbam from loading.
That's all I've got for now.
Here 'tis:

Quote:I know precisely where Self Destruct is on all my characters - I've got a tray I make every time that holds it, the Ouro, Pocket D, base, and mission teleports, usually Mystic Fortune, etc. apart from the three basic trays.Debt? What is this debt of which you speak?
On a more serious note, all my toons have Self Destruct, Ninja Run, Mystic Fortune, and the LKT-1700 Rocket Pack (no idea where that came from). And yes, I'm a booster pack ho.
I explicitly remove Self Destruct from my tray every single time because:
1.) Its animation is insanely long.
2.) It can't be interrupted.
3.) Its accuracy is bizzarrely low (Sands of Mu hits more often, which says a lot).
4.) It's ridiculously easy to hit it when I really want to, say, rest or teleport to my base.
Funny for others, not funny for me. A true "OH DAMMIT!" moment.
For me, personally, it's a useless power and needs some serious love. -
Quote:Have to disagree. If you were looking at a VW bug frame, you'd have its measurements, compatible engines, and information on which you could make an informed choice as to if it would suit your wants and needs before ever considering fitting a minivan's shell on it - or purchasing or deciding to use the frame in the first place. You would be making an informed decision from step 1, not having it suddenly change for something you already own.Actually it's like saying you can't put the shell of a Chrysler Town and Country on the frame of a VW Bug. Though you can still pimp out that VW with compatible parts.
Now, sure, you could just pick it up without looking at any of that, in which case it'd be the individual completely ignoring available information - the point being, though, that the information would be there from the start, not changing years after the fact.
Thus the comment above on "if we were looking at a *new* game, then maybe."

Missed ya too. Know you've been rather preoccupied, though.

Quote:Because, of course, it's the character I choose to create, one which would not be doable under your proposal. At this point, though, it sounds more like you're specifically trying to create a character which flies in the face of the concept... And I do mean -specifically-! Every thing I point out you create another layer of RP balloon to seal up the hole... And it's understandable.
Which, by its very label there, is... restrictive. Why do that when so much else allows the player the flexibility and creativity to make their character the way they want - one of the strengths of the game?Quote:As for the "Origin Restricted or locked" things? That's what Origin-Specific means.... It's specifically tied to one origin.
But, again, we go to the fact that for the past six years origin *has* meant nothing. Having it suddenly have an effect - whether in costume/animation pieces, powers, etc - is just a *very* bad idea at this point in the game, especially for something that cannot be changed.Quote:There is no way to make an "Origin Suggestive" animation set which justifies a player's use of origin if it's available to all origins. And players (at least some!) won't accept any origin-locked concepts, even if they get neat toys with -their- origin.
So why limit *yourself* to using those pieces as "ninjas" or "magic" pieces? Suggestive pieces may keep the designers to a theme - but isn't it great that you can use them as you want, mixing and matching to create what *you* want instead? I've got Magic characters using Natural pieces, Natural using Cyborg and Valkyrie, all sorts of combos.Quote:I, for example, don't make Ninja characters. though I do make quite a few "Natural" heroes. So why does the Natural Booster have to be ninjas? My does the magic booster have a ton of -Clothing- options when my magic character isn't a wizard or a sorceror, but instead inherently magical?
Setting up a few really shaky arguments there, Rachel. Costume drops, unlockable pieces and the like are all obtainable (or ignorable) by every single character. Is there some delay for some? Sure. But they are available regardless. You're using "obtainable with a little effort" to argue "not available unless you match something you may have chosen arbitrarily six years ago." The two are not the same.Quote:Origin Suggestive pieces tend to focus in on specific concepts without making it -too- pointed or tied intrinsically to the character. Either we have costume pieces and power animations that sort of lean towards origins or we tie them directly to the origins.
The former leaves Origins as a mostly hollow shell of unimportance which barely means -anything- outside of a system of behind the curtains improvements to a player's powers.
The latter has people yelling and hollering about things being too specific or too tied up into Origins leaving them "Restricted".
If you don't want things tied up that "Lock" creativity then by all means petition for non-unique names, all costume pieces unlocked without using TFs or Merit rewards or even random drops or Vet rewards.
If you don't mind all of those locks blocking people's creativity... what is it that gets your goat about this one?
-Rachel-
IF a new game were being started, with FULL disclosure about what origins will affect, what they restrict, what won't be available, etc. then maybe - *maybe* - I'd be inclined to give the idea some leeway. At this point, however? It's like coming up with a new law saying I can't purchase an imported car because I drove a Ford 25 years ago. -
Well, my current case is a Coolermaster 690. Plenty of room, to me, lots of cooling, pretty well laid out and very nice to work in.
Currently housing an i7-860 and Radeon HD 5770. -
Quote:Are you sure it's non-functional - or just not mechanically functional? If you power a suit of armor through magic, or a robotic shell through magic it is a -magic- origin, regardless of what the resultant golem looks like. Would this golem have shoulder mounted rail cannons and eye-beams to fire magic balls of fire from? Why would it rely on the shoulder-mounted rail cannon, which is non-functional by the way, to fire a magic attack?
"We learned as we grew, the source growing stronger as well. With the advent of crossbows, guns and cannon, we could no longer rely on the mystic swordsman - they would be torn apart before they reached the foe.
"At first, we tried just opening a hole in the armor, letting the energies just spill out at our enemies. This proved fatal to anybody nearby, harmful more to those we swore to defend, wiping out families and nearly driving us to extinction. We learned we needed guides and a focus. You know the popular image of wizards using wands or a staff? That's partially from your ancestors. Though, given Church attitudes towards wizards, we adapted the form of guns soon after their introduction...."
Those eye and shoulder-cannon? Guides and focuses for the energy to direct it the way it's needed.
Quote:But yes. ultimately there are those who won't accept such limiting factors on pretty much anything. And that's why we can never have origin-specific stuff. Thank you for illustrating that point, Bill. =-3
-Rachel-
Though your wording's a bit off. "Origin-specific" - or "origin-suggestive," perhaps, is fine to start with - what won't fly, for me, is "origin restricted" "origin locked." -
Quote:*points at sig - Kheldian backstory guide*It's been inconsistent as to whether or not having a Kheldian actually extends the human lifespan. It definitely increases that of the Kheldians themselves-- a Peacebringer who doesn't bond has a life span of about 10 years, a Warshade three ... when they bond, they're practically immortal.
When I say that Romulus the Warshade should be the same entity as Romulus from the ITF, I mean that the Kheldian portion should have been once bonded to the human Romulus.
Shadowstar, the Warshade contact, specifically - the Kheldian has been around since at least ancient Egypt. The host, no - in fact, part of the story arc revolves around the current Shadowstar's daughter being slated to be "the next Shadowstar."
And no, it is not stated that Nictus (or Warshades) have a shorter lifespan. Their experiments that turned them INTO Nictus were meant to extend the lifespan from the short natural Kheldian lifespan, not least from siphoning it from other Kheldians - but there's nothing there about it being shortened itself (barring war, weakness from Cyst travel, etc.)
As far as the name - the NPC is named Romulus Augustus before becoming Nictus. That's all we have to refer to him as in any case just *after* the merge - he doesn't suddenly say "I am now Biggus!" or some such. While I wouldn't mind seeing a progression over time, there's no reason to say the name's "anything but similar." It'd be like me insisting the Hispanic father living a few miles away named Jesus is the same person the Christian faith is based around. -
Quote:Do they?Though... A Magic powered Robot could just choose between "Magic" or "Tech" for his origin, since both apply equally
If my character's "family" has, in the past, animated trees, suits of armor, scarecrows and the like by magic - no mechanical abilities - to help "defend the downtrodden," is that tech? The current generation builds a "robot" shell for the energies since that fits the "current world," but they're just that - a shell. There's no "tech" involved. Without the magic to empower them, they can do nothing. The magic is the source of the ability... so, no, they would not apply equally.
Picking "tech," in other words, would not be true to the character, and would be a case of metagaming as opposed to - well, just designing the character truly to themselves.
Of course, this does also ignore (again) the millions of characters already created, whose origins are "corrected" in bios or just picked randomly or because Magic (say) is the first group in the higher level SO vendors. Retrofitting this sort of thing is, frankly, a bad idea in general. -
Quote:Can't ever agree to it - who is to say why you're using a specific animation? What actually defines an animation as a specific origin? With powerset customization I'd like to suggest alternate animations for powers based on origin.
Whether it's completely altered (Tech Robot sniping with laser eyes, firing fire-blasts from shoulder cannons, etc) Or just a change in the particle physics (Magic character flinging "Rune of Power" styled attacks)
And then have each origin tied to specific ones and the correlated origins.
I.E. A Mutant character can use Mutant, Science, and Magic animations for their powers. A Natural character can use Natural, Magic, and Tech animations. Etc. Basically if you can use a DO with a cross-origin you can use an animation with a cross-origin.
Opinions?
-Rachel-
First, let's look at the "circle" of origins. All you need to do is visit anyone who sells DOs to work them out -
Science >> Tech >> Natural >> Magic >> Mutant >> Science
So, restricting "eye beams" to tech means your Magic warrior, who's been doing so while fighting criminals with the "eyes of justice," no longer can. Unless, of course, we grandfather everyone in. In which case, (a) what's the point, and (b) why are we restricting new players and new characters again?
OK, ok, so let's go to the particle choices. Magic runes. Which can be used by Natural and Mutant - so why can't my Tech Controller, who used to work in pyrotechnics and advanced displays, use them in a "Technomage" theme, or just to throw off anyone who may want to counter him into believing he's using magic instead of "tech with a light show?"
The argument's come up before with weapons, too. I mean, Broadsword looks pretty natural, right? Except my BS/SR Scrapper (only 50 scrapper I have) is Magic. The powers are sourced from the sword itself. Or you can get a very Tech looking sword. Or perhaps the crystals in the sword were placed there by an ancestor, who knew his family was a bit "different" and they plus the materials activate a Mutation which allows them to become exceptional warriors.
I can never, and will never, accept a suggestion to tie animations or costume bits to origin, and tend - outside of epic ATs (due to being tied to their storyline) and temp powers - to greatly dislike tying powers to them. -
Quote:Most SGs that have a kick policy, at least that I've encountered, do a few things -Ahh alright. We are just pack rats when it comes to kicking people. Feel kinda bad about kicking someone if there's no explanation
- Mention it right away ("Inactive for 30 days = kick, so be sure to log on") and
- email the member when they are kicked.
If they know ahead of time that they could be kicked, it shouldn't be a surprise. If they don't, and you need to clean house, send them an email (or global tell, which IIRC is going to be stored 'til they come back) saying "You were inactive, and we needed to clean house a bit. If you'd like <charactername> back in the SG when you're back, email <name>"
