Quote:You were asked for information so you could be GIVEN ideas. And replied with stupid "So nobody has any ideas." You COULD have said "OK, let me find out" and, oh, I don't know, given the information ASKED for. Your choice.I asked a general question as to if anyone had an idea of why a C drive would show as it being FULL when nothing is loaded on a pc other than CoH. If anyone has had it happen or knew of it happening.
Now, please, don't reply any more because you apparently can't respond without stupid suggestions. If all you can do is throw out ideas, that's fine. But be logical about it so we could start somewhere. No need to be an ***. So, go be stupid somewhere else for post counts. Thank you, that is all.
We don't know how large the hard drive is. Or how much space was free before, or what else is on it, or may have been removed.
We don't know it's an actual hard drive issue because you mentioned "memory." We don't have the actual error message.
We don't know what all is ON the hard drive - is it the same one the OS is on? You say "All he runs is COH." Does anyone else use the computer, does he use it for anything else at all? Is it compressed? (Does anyone even DO that any more?)
We know next to nothing about the system. Thus THREE PEOPLE asking for more information. Being given "So nobody has any ideas" back - using your own words, "being stupid" - isn't helpful in the least. Thus *my* response. Don't like it, there's a reason for it.
Right now we have a LITTLE more information because you finally mentioned seeing the hard drive itself reporting it has no space. Followup, does Windows throw out a message about virtual memory running out at any point? And when's the last time a disk cleanup was done on the system? (Empty recycle bin, right click the drive, properties, tools, disk cleanup, let it run, control panel, internet options, delete files there, etc. Yes, I *have* run across drives that filled up with temp files and misc. crap.) Last time a malware scan was run? (the "trojan serving porn" was only half in jest.) If one hasn't been, swing into safe mode with networking, head over to trend micro and run their online scanner. If he has multiple drives, try moving the VM file over to another through system properties - performance, see if ti still complains about being out of memory.
Edit: And if you can, snag this and run it. See what's taking up the most space. -

Quote:Think you're mostly SOL there - quick look on the nvidia site lists this as the most recent 5xxx compatible driver:I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but my problem is similar to yours and was hoping to piggyback on your discussion for an answer.
I can't seem to update my archaic video driver either: nVidia Geforce FX Go5200, v. 66.10. It's a Dell special for laptops through nVidia and I have tried to download an update, but I either have the most updated driver or it just doesn't want to update it.

So... bit old. -

How about providing the information asked for? AFAIK, nobody here is psychic. I can throw out totally random ideas, but the chance of any being right are pretty low. (Such as "He has a virus that's serving porn behind his back and his HD is full," "Someone managed to resize his partition so he has no space," "His drive has secretly been replaced with Folger's crystals.")
Want me to keep going, or would you like to provide the asked for information so we actually have something to go on? -
Quote:It's documented. We also force the designer who does such things to put a flag with their name in the power that explicitly states they did that on purpose. That way, without having to look into documentation, we can tell at a glance it was done on purpose.

Quote:Sorry if that wasn't worded quite clearly enough. It wasn't really pointed at you. More at the general mass of "This isn't perfect! You owe me/I'm quitting!" sorts. If anything, it was more in agreement with much of what you said that I quoted vs the reactions we're getting from several people.I think you have me mixed up with someone else. Reread my post. Nobody's threatening to ragequit.
Having had to use my Tailor Tokens to redo my custom powers, for example, it's not unreasonable to get more, is it?
I can understand being frustrated, and feel for the people having problems - in most cases. But I can also understand production, development, and deadlines, and know from history that not only will there be bugs (caught and uncaught) in release, and that they're not there because "the devs aren't doing their jobs/don't care/hate me," but that they will still have people working on getting them fixed before, during, and after release.
Patience is sorely lacking at times. If people expect every issue to come out bug free and perfect, they'd better be able to point out that every single thing they've ever done has also been 100% perfect, on time, and what everyone expected. Otherwise, don't expect the same of anyone else. -

It... depends. I mean, you can get into philosophical discussions of just what evil *is* (and how it changes from point of view in some instances, or where it differs from 'uncivilized,' or any number of other things) but that'd take quite a bit. (It's also "Is that what you're really asking," which I don't think is the case - get to that near the bottom.)
Part of the problem, of course, is that this is a game, restricted not only by ratings but by the fact we're creating our *own* characters, interacting with the same world as everyone else's characters. It would be, I'd think, easier to "write evil" (and degrees of evil) in a single player game. Of course, even then, part of the question is "how much do you want to restrict your market" (as well as "how much heat are you prepared to take?")
Do you write in theft? Pretty lightweight.
Drug dealing? Again pretty lightweight.
Murder? We've got it implied at points. (OK, "assassination" or "taking out" people.) But you can RP around it if you wouldn't "murder" ("I'm taking them out of the picture.")
We've got an arc or two where you take someone away for implied beating, torture, etc. Would you want an arc where you were the one doing the torturing? With any degree of freedom? Want aside, would you play it? I don't mean "Yeah, it'd be cool" or "it'd fit my character," but you, personally, getting to spend anything from half an hour to "as long as you can" causing pain, psychological damage and humiliation to a target? How about "You skin them alive and deliver the results, and video, to make your point?" Fits evil, yes? I, personally, wouldn't want to see it mentioned ... pretty much any character of mine had done that, much less saying "OK, player (not character,) this is what you're going to do."
I have to admit, I wouldn't play that. *shrug*
But, as has been mentioned elsewhere, the problem many have with COV isn't that you're "not evil enough," but that you're doing someone else's dirty work. (Again, "What are you really asking," as mentioned.) You're not plotting your own schemes (AE excepted,) making a name for yourself as anything more than a "more competent mercenary." The attitude you get ("You. Scum. Go do this") makes sense early on - after all, who the hell are you and why should I be afraid of you? But higher up? You should be having people (a) afraid of you, (b) wanting to prove THEY are more of a badass by taking you down, (c) trying to get themselves ahead by working with you and surviving it. All of which, of course, make assumptions about your character... which the devs have no control over. -
Quote:Honestly, I think the devs should just ignore the forum for a week or two after an issue is released. Not because they shouldn't care, but because pretty much EVERY issue gets filled with "ZOMG this doesn't work, why wasn't this ABSOLUTELY PERFECT, the game was ruined, /ragequit, I'm gonna sue, they should know this wouldn't run 100% on MY machine with my specific software mix," etc, etc, etc. on release.Oh, yeah. And that happened on the same day the market had to be taken off line.

I feel sorry for the devs. They are great devs and this Issue's launch has been very rough. I suspect marketing forced the "must release on anniversary" thing. That's speculation, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised. In future, best to avoid that kind of thing and go the Blizzard route of "when it's ready".
Once the kinks are out, I17 will be one of the strongest Issues in the game's history. Bugs aside, it's a fantastic Issue.
No, not everything gets tested. Why? If we have (say) an AE-focused release, who's going to test whether putting negative numbers into the market crashes it? (Just to make something up.) And the closed beta pool of testers is smaller than the open beta, which is smaller than all those on live - so even if they DID make everything work perfectly, somehow, in everyone's machine in open beta, as soon as it hit live, someone would have a "ZOMG /ragequit T3h devz suk!" bug. Not to mention we'd be seeing years between issues.
And, of course, the test server *isn't* a perfect copy of live. For instance, we were having a problem with Mastermind pets (all pets, actually, come to think of it) despawning whenever you zoned, entered, or exited a mission in a specific zone, and that zone changed. Bug in the game? No. The timing wasn't synched, for some reason, between the machines that make up the test "server," as it was explained, so they kept despawning.
Issues release with bugs. They always have. They always will. The MOST serious tend to get caught and fixed in testing. (Yes, one slipped through this time - see mention of what people test.) Some take more time than others to track down, and the decision has to be made *sometime* on an issue being released.
If you don't want to figure out that's the way life is and instead want to /ragequit or spam multiple threads with Severe amounts of uninformed whining about everything not being perfect... your loss, not mine. And if you want to insist on compensation, show me the guarantee that everything will be up 100% of the time or they'll reimburse in some way. I can guarantee you won't find that. -
Quote:We have controls. They're very helpful. But if you try to play him like a controller, it's going to feel very messed up. Speaking from experience
Not sure about him as a controller
it's hard to get out of the "controller" mindset sometimes if you're coming from that. You'll do some of the same things, but for different reasons. You're not trying to keep a debuff in place, you're trying to make things die faster (for instance.) And, of course, you can get right in a boss's face (with Domination) right away.
It takes some getting used to. (I have to wonder if Ice/ blasters have an easier time switching to doms sometimes.) -
They look ridiculous *now.*
So do:

... and more (just look up any past decade and "fashion" or "concept," for instance,) but in their time they were futuristic or "cool." (Yes, I know I mixed some 50s and 80s stuff. Had to pick on my decade a bit too.)
So, I say again - they fit in their time just fine. Look somewhat silly now? Sure. And the same thing will be said about the "2010 stuff" in 2030. -
-
A purchaseable anniversary badge? No thanks. Kind of kills the point of an anniversary badge. It'd be rather like being able to pay to have your name added to the list of "People who have climbed Mt. Everest," f'rinstance.
However, I've somewhat come around to the "Make them global" camp. I *personally* still like them per-character, and before anyone mentions alts I've got over 160 of them. But I can see the argument about the account and person being active for the real-life event and how it makes sense for them to be global. -
Quote:That's pretty much why I said that. I wouldn't MIND "AT-leaning" missions - or at least missions where ATs can finish them in some other way than "remove hitpoints, rinse, repeat" - but the problem, of course, is assuming they'll have some specific power. (Again, the poster child being "Defenders have heals," when I can roll out several of my own that don't.)Would this idea (Of AT specific arcs) be more valid if it were in the teen or early twenties levels? It wouldn't be a "training fresh out of the gate", but more of a "tune-up based on where you should be, skill-wise".
Defenders do play quite differently based on which Primary they are, IME.
It's less of an issue with some ATs - for instance, every Blaster has a ranged attack, even if they (for some reason) totally ignore their primary. They've got to take SOMETHING that does damage at range. But you can't assume, for instance, that Doms or Controllers have an immobilize (skippable, and Illusion and Mind don't have one at all,) or that MMs have pets. So "Designing for an AT" isn't quite so cut and dried. -
Main problems?
First, you're assuming a LOT about each AT. We'll go back with your defenders. "You've got to keep this team alive!" I bet you're thinking "So heal!" Especially coming from an emp defender.
Ok. So how do I do that with Trick Arrow? Force fields? Sonic? How about the Rad/ that decided to take the debuffs instead of the pathetic heal? (Honestly, early on, EVERY heal is pretty pathetic.) And what about, say, Kinetics or Dark, where that *has* to hit to heal? (I'm not even going into "Training a defender how to be a healer sounds like training them to be a healer is just wrong." I'm sure you'll get enough of that. Oh, for the record - 50 Emp/Rad, 50 Kin/Dark, 50 Rad/Rad, others scattered throughout the levels. And I'd argue with any "soloing problem," thanks.)
Or, tanks. "Keep aggro?" Sorry, but at low levels tanks are barely less squishy than anything else. Hold aggro means you're going *down.* Not to mention that, aside from Gauntlet, tanks at low levels don't *have* aggro holding powers.
The early level missions need to be generic because at that level, the ATs pretty much are.
Now, do the early missions need a revamp? Yes. They're the same missions we've had for years now. And while I wouldn't mind some AT specialization - well, we do get that somewhat in enemy groups later on. But that should come once the ATs actually *diverge* some past "Ranged" and "Melee." -
Loved it... now tell life to stop being hell. It's supposed to listen to you, right?

Experienced and saw mention in broadcast and help:
Hitting "Spam" on an email no longer deletes all emails from that sender. You still see the others, hitting spam again gives "(sender) is already blocked." -

I logged in to one of my characters and it popped up on screen.
No, not kidding. >.< -
Well, it seems we'll certainly know when we've done one -

Pretty sure mine was a stalker. Stayed invisible, stayed in melee. Looked like my MM - at least like his outline.

Used one of mine yesterday just fine. I'd say it's having a moment, at the moment.

Quote:Speaking for myself, it's very much a feeling of "one small, narrow path from 1-50 that I've walked before," as well as, yes, the grey, dingy, trash-heap-deco look. There's no variety in either mission path or decor, which leads to it being rather boring. Plus I think they lost something in their effort to "streamline" arcs and such.. I still don't understand why people don't like COV...is i the gray sky issue? If so the devs need to throw in a "tropical" zone lol.
Heroside, by comparison, I can get extremely varied "storylines" from 1-50, and go from nice, shiny zones (Steel, Atlas) to dingy (Kings Row, Crey's) to "mystic" (Croatoa, DA sort of.) There's enough variety that I can STILL go by and say "Hey, there's a contact I haven't run in a while!" and it's like seeing an friend you haven't talked to in a year.
Even knowing it'd be work, I'd still like to see, say, a hero hazard/regular zone contact revamp one issue, then perhaps a new villain zone two issues later, hero zone revamp two issues after, new villain zone, co-op, etc. Especially early on when we're dealing with the *same* stuff in Mercy, Oakes, etc. (Yeah, I know, obviously Praetoria is there, but what if I want to *start* side-specific?) -
Heh. Been on those a time or two.
Don't think I ever achieved "Nemesis Nemesis," though. -
It was only (IIRC) on the baggy/tucked in pants. Think it went poof in issue 5 when they did one of their costume overhauls (skirts losing their ability to take a pattern for a while at the same time.)
