Simply put - some (most) of the old stuff needs help. And there's no real difference, any more, between a "task force" and a "trial" - hasn't really been at any point.
So how about if we have them have some meaning, and do a little revamping.
"Task Forces" get their minimum # to start equalized at four, maximum. Yes, some need to be adjusted for this, and some "trials" (thinking primarily of the Hollows) need actual content work - I can't think of the last time I ran this thing, TBH, but keeping eight pugged low levels together ends up being worse than herding cats.
Current task forces *generally* will end up in this. As will most current "trials."
"Trials" end up as large-group (8 or, as in the COP, more) projects. (This having some historical precedent, as Faultline was initially supposed to be a trial *zone* - essentially a raid working its way from one side to the other. This, quite obviously, never was put into play.)
While vets will still end up referring to them as whatever they were before for a while, it'll be a flag as to what to expect.
In addition, it *should* mean some old content gets a long overdue looking at. The hollows "trial" gets turned into a task force, with a smaller (preferrably 3) person requirement. Much friendlier introduction to it than "Well, if one person drops or gets disconnected, you're all screwed." And, on the other side, the hell TFs in the Shard can get *their* much overdue attention, get some of the missions trimmed out and generally streamlined and reworked for 4 people with normal scaling for higher team size, difficulty settings, etc.
While we're on the subject of the shard, this is a great opportunity to put in some solo/small team, Incarnate-appropriate content, as well. After all, the Shard's the broken mind and prison of a godlike being that devours dimensions - the Incarnate "theme" is you getting that level of power. It's someplace apart from the Praetoria storyline that would be fully appropriate to pull a Superman-ish "... but you can take it, can't you. I don't have to hold back..." style fight. -
Quote:... excuse me? I don't think you've paid attention to what Teleport can do, Sam.I don't recall saying anything about keeping up with a team. I talked about use inside a mission, which is to for moving around a mission quickly. Teleport does not help you with that,
Caltrops patches? I can ignore them.
Immobilizes? I laugh at them.
I can teleport *past* enemies, if need be - flying, jumping, yes even SSing past can cause aggro.
I can, alternately, teleport *right into the middle* of enemies. No need to be a Shield tank. TP in, group hold (as many multi target holds are PBAOE.) TP in, Nova. TP in, refill END or Health. No pre-aggro, no getting knocked back as I'm on my way in, or held or mezzed. Teleport, queue, explode on arrival.
Teleport is *extremely* useful in combat.
Plus, as a side bonus - since you talk about END - I don't accidentally leave it running or not have it detoggle and continue to drain END I could otherwise use to fight. Benefit of being a click. -
Quote:/thisYou may want to ask this in the Controller forum under ATs & Powers. That's where the real 'troller gurus hang out, chrunchin' their Mids and such.
And things like using two holds to hold a boss isn't an issue of trick arrow, it's (barring Dominators or "overpowered" control) standard in the game mechanics as far as mez and resistance (and others will be harder still.) You'll need to stack holds *anyway.*
Fortunately, as a secondary for a 'troller, that's not an issue.
Still, wander down to the controller boards. -
One of many reasons I'm none too fond of the winter event. (That and some 50s that apparently get their giggles off spawning the WL and a horde of Winter Horde - at level 50 - in Atlas, Galaxy, and Mercy. I've eaten plenty of debt coming around the corner and hitting one, or right over one - one hit from a WL, well, can usually deal with. One hit, plus ten Horde? Insta-death. I spend far too much time in game playing "cleanup" and finding somewhere to drone these things. Yes, on a lowbie. Thank you Nemesis Staff for giving me the range to do so.)

I think this is related to the occasional one that shows up spamming for RMTs.
In which case, just /ignorespammer. -
Quote:... I've got to do that once, just for laughs.another possible method to this as well is if you have 1 perma dom with confuse, or multiple poeple with confuse/deceive power and just perma confuse rommy so he kills off his nictus then you just bum rush rommy
this method is how me and one of my friends can duo the ITF -
Quote:The only mention of I20 in the announcement doesn't leave me with great hope:From the sounds of it not until i20 but i would like clarification on that until told otherwise
Quote:once Issue 20 launches, you will be able to build these abilities with stuff found while completing Incarnate Trials as well. -

Masterminds, as mentioned.
Or, for another example, a group of friends and I set up a sapper team. (All elec/elec blasters.) Team TP - everyone fires off SC - no damage, as everything's out of END and/or busy doing the electrocuted boogie. Used to be used in PVP, as well, until they put in suppression and found range suppression was just overall bad - so they just killed teleport instead. -
Quote:MMs tend to be an exception in here - as I (somewhat) agree bubbling a pet should be an AOE affair. (Except, of course, that it's a bit irksome when you have "only one" Tier1 die.)My Bots/FF MM is one of my favorite charters. But applying bubbles on my team and 6 pets is just tedious.
Still, it's a matter of prioritizing. For me - well, it depends on the character, somewhat. Some I'll say, plainly, that my pets = my life and my priority, so be happy with leadership. Other times (sometimes on the same character, different situation) I'll buff only Tier2 and Tier3, and buff the rest of the team.
*Absolutely everything* doesn't need to have/keep bubbles. -
I'd still (personally) like to see it added as an SG base item.

Quote:/this.Presumably, when you "click on the map" to teleport, you'd get the same result as you would when placing a thumb tack, which disregards terrain completely, and will often appear deep underground or high in the air.
Quote:Also the base End cost for Teleport should be cut in half. -
Problem, as pointed out before - the game does not track Z-axis (height.) Big issue.
And there'd be no reason to *require* all four other powers. Current 5-power APPs/PPPs do not, for instance. -
I happen to like gravity. Yes, even Dimension Shift. Yes, I do use it. And no, I don't think Wormhole's all that complicated. However:
- Yes, Propel needs to be faster. I actually skipped it on my Grav/Kin because, early on, by the time I'd USED it on a team, the target was already dead a good 90% of the time. That said, I *like* throwing buicks at people.
- Wormhole could be a bit quicker, as well.
- And it's been mentioned previously, for Dimension Shift (and black hole) to make it more obvious that the target's phased. Put some sort of barrier so the target can't run off while phased, put some status indicator on them, etc. I'm usually fine with being able to tell, but I can see the problem for some.
(As far as snipes, the only ones that need fixing are stalkers. 8 seconds? Really?) -
Quote:I really don't know whose Masteries Masterminds get, but I don't see one that's specifically tech-based in the same way as Munitions was, so snagging something non-epic is not at all out of the question.
Link to MMs in the wiki.
Non-PPP, Chil, Charge, Heat and Field masteries.
PPP, of course, same four as everyone else, so "tech" = mace, or a reason you're throwing electricity/sharks/soul bits around. -
Quote:Thirding, I suppose, this.Really, the Huntsman Arachnos build sounds like the way to go. Hit level 20 as fast as you can and do tips to become a hero, then you can completely ignore the Arachnos background of the AT. Just make sure you do the mission arc at L10 to get your extra costume slot so you don't have to LOOK like a Spider either.
I cannot stand VEATs, generally. But I've actually found a Huntsman build more up my alley. (I *may* give the others a go again now that we have inherent stamina. Tight builds on the bane/widow were part of the reason they bugged me so badly.) Ignore the "story" that goes with them except for the above-mentioned "up to level 10 so you get the costume."
I think it'd fit the idea. *shrug*
Re: KB/using IOs - Play AE a little. Fit something in. Write for the character. Use rolls in the first two bronze ranges - eventually (usually doesnt' take me long) you'll get a -KB IO recipe. Toss it in. No need to mess with the market at all, and you'll handle most knockback. -

Quote:/this.Last year testing the Winter Event with Lord Winter's Realm, there was a problem with the zone events going at the same time as an opening to LWR. They did something to stop the conflict, but I think was to simply prevent both happening at the same time.
So, this year, they may have just shut down those zone events during the Winter Event, or, the code to prevent a conflict is bugged and stopping those zone event completely.
I'd wait for the Winter Event to be over and see if they come back. If they don't, /bug it.
(FWIW, easy way - assuming you have this enabled - is to just search chat logs. They log messages, as well, so searching on "Fire alarm" should bring you to any instance of "Fire alarm sounded in Steel Canyon/cleared in Steel Canyon." And no, none showing in the last 7 days.) -
Quote:Um...I finished a respec today. At the end I have 2 slots lost. And after Level 3 comes Level 4, after Level 4 comes Level 5 etc. Level 2 is only missing so I still think this must be a bug.
Go count how many slots you have (minus the default one.) You'll find you're not missing them. You may have placed extras somewhere that didn't have them before - you do, after all, have more powers now if you're respeccing a pre-Inherent Fitness character.
If you use a second build (if you don't actually *use* them, it'll be a throwaway build,) it'll treat it exactly as if you're leveling. You can compare them that way.
(Respec process does powers - 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. in order, then slots. Second build treats it like a level 1 that got PL'd to 50 and is just now seeing the trainer - assuming you're 50 - so it'll go power, power, slots, power, slots, etc.) -
64 bit has slightly higher minimum requirements, but other than that, no particular issues. Make sure your hardware has 64 bit drivers (not typically an issue, if you're coming from a vista system.)
No issues with COH here - been running it since the public beta, 64 bit. -
Quote:... except for those who do it specifically to get better and win something at the end of a season or some such, or bowl because the boss does and they're kissing up to them, or any of the numerous other reasons someone may do something they don't personally enjoy. You're making assumptions. It was an example of something people do for fun, where having fun doing it is the entire point of doing it.Quote:
Now, I understand that different people find different things fun, so I suppose what I'm really asking is why so many people keep saying "This isn't fun!" and then they keep doing whatever it is anyway. -
Quote:Experience and advancement. And I don't mean XP.Something has been bothering me slightly for a while now.
That thing is: Why are so many people obsessed with being rewarded for the time they spend playing City of Heroes?
Quote:Try something real quick: Think back to when you first started playing the game, and why. I can guarantee that, whatever your reason for playing the game was, it did not involve purple drops or Incarnate Shards. In fact, I would go so far as to say you started playing the game because it was fun.
That aside, there's a growth of experience and expectation when you play the game. When you first start, you know *nothing* about the game, are confronted with entirely new areas, new enemies you know nothing about, storylines you've never seen before, and a wide, WIDE variety of powers and abilities. Just getting through a lot of that keeps your attention.
Yes, it's still fun. But it's one type of fun.
Move yourself forward a year, two, four, six - you can name the Hellions in your sleep, you can give detailed directions from one side of the City to the other from memory, etc. You've got a character or two (or more...) you consider your main, and spend a good bit of time on. You're at 50. Your leveling days (Incarnate aside) are done. So what do you concentrate on? AE, possibly. Finishing some of the missions. Maybe TFing. Maybe hitting some old arcs in Ouro. And, for that work - well, purples, shard drops, etc. are your only visible indicators of "progress," of doing much more than spinning your wheels.
It's not that the characters are any less "fun," but there are fewer "tangible" (as tangible as anything can be in a video game) rewards for what you DO. So, your'e a little more sensitive to the fact you haven't seen a purple drop in months, or shards seem to drop at a rate of about one per billion enemies killed.
Some people feel this to different extents. For me, it irks me on (rare) occasion, but I've got 200-some alts, so the "lack of progress" from not leveling is offset. I RP. I mess around with a lot of things. Others - not so much.
Doesn't mean they're *not* playing for "fun." Just that that fun has changed.
