Quote:And between I9-I13?Like I said, RV is moderately active at least on Freedom and Virtue.
WB and Siren's are dead not because PvP is dead, but because most people have their IOs slotted at level 50 (for max enhancement bonus %) which don't work on the lower level zones. Ditto on incarnate abilities.(Admittedly that doesn't apply to incarnates...) Besides, I still hear 30ish as the sweet spot for IOs, specifically for exemping.
I'd still stick with WB and Siren's being dead because of the state of PVP, frankly. The exodus occurred then, and those zones population have never recovered. (And, again, the +5 levels of powers make the level 30 cutoff in Sirens, and 38 cutoff in WB, pointless - and make BB, effectively, a 15-30 zone... which would be rather unbalanced, if anyone were ever in there to do anything but farm PVP IOs or get Shivans.
(And again, "One of the zones is sort of active on two servers" isn't a glowing recommendation.)
Edit: Yeah. Sound a bit bitter, I know. *shrug* But you did suggest he head into "a PVP zone," and that used to be fun in almost any of them. I'm really aiming the "That's not a glowing recommendation" at the devs, not you. Used to love being able to pick pretty much any PVP zone on any server I was on and have at least a 50/50 chance of finding a fight if I stuck around a little bit. -
Quote:... where there's nobody else around? It is true that PvP is but a shadow of the awesomeness it used to be pre-i13, but if you take a sec to uncloud your jaded mind out of all the cynicism and bitterness (in which you are sorta justified considering what the Posi/Castle did to it), and try to take a look at it with fresh eyes (the fresh eyes of a newcomer to PvP, such as the OP) you'll see that it's actually fun to slap whatever influence you have to spare on whatever toon and go mess around in a PvP zone.
ESPECIALLY when we're looking at a newcomer to PVP, that's a horrible thing to have them experience. At least (as the old complaints were) getting "Ganked" meant there was someone THERE.
Do any of the PVP SGs even spend time regularly in any of the zones? I'm pretty sure all I ever hear from them is Arena/Ladder... which can, I suppose, be fun in itself, but it's nowhere near the same.
Quote:There is only one thing to keep in mind in all this: despite what others may say, PvP is not serious business
More reason to hate having Siren's be so dead. (And the 5-level-bump in powers thanks to SSKing kicking in thanks to the zone auto-sk/mal.) -
Quote:No, one of the things I *like* about blueside is that I can take wholly separate paths from 1-50 - arcs and zones. Redside, if you add more contacts, just feels more cluttered.Redside just needs some clean up done. Make Archanos can take a tip from the Praetorians and make cleaning droids. It does not need more zones.
New zones would be nice there. -
Quote:Um...They even tried to correct that by make 2 of them into psuedo hazard zones (Hollows and Faultline).
The hollows has pretty much always been a hazard zone. Still is.
Faultline was an unused trial zone. For all intents and purposes, a hazard zone. Now it's more story focused.
Quote:So the Next time you see a post that asks for more Zones "just for one side" vote no. Co-Op zones add expansion. -
Quote:No, it's pretty spot on.The only correct part in this post is the " devs' numerous attempts to kill it off" bit. Everything else is pretty much completely wrong.
Where's the action in Siren's, which used to be a heavily populated PVP zone pretty much regardless of server? There is none.
How about people looking to give you a hard time if you go for a Shivan? Shivans are risk-free outside of the NPCs now.
Warburg's generally a ghost town.
"RV is sort of active on two servers" does not mean it's on anything but life support - and that's probably just because the devs don't want the bad press of officially killing it off. -
Quote:There was no condescension in that post. Annoyance at the continued broken state of PVP which has driven off even most of the people who ARE interested in it, yes. That there was plenty of.BTW, thanks for not being overly condescending....oh wait.
I was genuinely interested, though never more than casual - but interested enough to put together a guide to help PVEers get into PVP. Not really any more. The zones - which I find more fun than the arena, or used to when there was a population - are dead. I think I've seen five people in them, total, over the past year (that I haven't brought in myself.) None have been interested in fighting. (Edit: Wait, one was. That's it.) And no, I wasn't on a stalker for most of them, nor do I have a PVP "rep" or build.
The few times I've done any PVPing lately has been with a friend or two out of boredom.
The zones used to be interesting. You never knew who or what you might find from one time to the next (which is why I liked it over arena - a pickup game versus "organized team sports," if you will.) You could be worried about someone you spot, and win when you thought you'd lose. You could wind up with a really oddball combination of powers and ATs that works better than expected against the others in the zone. You could end up greatly outnumbered and still hold the zone. It was *fun.*
Now, it's dead. -

Think they mean in-mission. I almost never have an outdoor ambush actually find me. *shrug*
-
Quote:You're complaining about *zoning.* You're in a city. Yes, you may have to cross the street.Wait, let me try.
All missions should alternate from the farthest reach of the Storm Palace to the farthest corner of Dark Astoria, with a stop to talk to an NPC at the back corner of The Hive. Because not making people travel long distances for no reason would be too easy.
We've got another thread whining about ambushes. Yet again. Because, OH MY GOD, my powers might not be up yet! I may have to do something other than stand still, take a nap, and pick a target after a while!
How much easier and more *dumbed down* does this game have to get?
Hell, put my suggestion in place and someone would complain that OMG, we have to PUSH a BUTTON! -
*checks year*
... did this post just take a long time to post? Like... many issues worth?
You saw someone in a PVP zone?
Were they actually looking for PVP, or just trying to get shivans or something?
(The question itself is best sent down to the PVP forums. The PVP game is much different, powers behave differently... went from a learning curve to a learning wall.) -
All missions need to be in the same zone. No, wait, the same door. In fact, all task forces now take place on different levels of the building. Wait, no,that's too tedious. All task forces need to be completed in one 10'x10' room. Hate to have anyone be distressed because they had to go down a hall or actually *move.* And at the beginning of a TF, everyone gets a temp power, "Kill everything." One click and they all die. No travel worries. No END worries. No resistance/defense/SO/IO/Set worries. And no text other than "go hit the button." Wait, that might be too much. People may have to read a sentence. Yep, everyone goes to the contact and - no, they may need to find a door. They're just instantly teleported to a 10x10 room with a big "Hit the kill now button" banner in their faces. Yep, that's what we need, NAO.

That makes the game start sounding more like this:
Ambushes don't let you pace your recovery? This is not a bad thing. So you can't sleep through a mission. *shrug* No, adding more mobs to a spawn is not the same thing at all. You can still just hang back if that's all that's done (or bypass them entirely - and not just on a stalker.) It would be "overriding the difficulty you've chosen" if they forced the ambushes to be EBs or AVs. You don't - bugged ambushes aside - get a bigger spawn than you normally would. In fact, with the way some spread out, it's often smaller and easier to handle.
It's not like they come up by surprise, either - very rarely do I see one show up without SOME sort of indication that lets you prepare.
And so what if you can't open with Assassin's Strike on a stalker? They also tend to have other decent attacks as well (if not other "tricks" entirely.) Get out of the "AS-Placate-Hit-Run" and actually scrap it out. Yes, Stalkers can do that, despite their hit-and-run reputation.
I tend to - well, *not care* if being ambushed means all my powers haven't recharged. Why should I have all the advantages, all the time? -
Quote:If you want that as "Review spawn points," sure. If you want "Detect where the player is and move elsewhere," that's more problematic. (For instance, the honoree mission in the Alpha slot arc, I'll tend to run back to the start to ambush the ambushes - having them spawn elsewhere because I was "too close" would be highly annoying.)I understand the OPs feelings on this, especially in Praetoria (also, the snark was unnecessay, Dechs. C'mon.)
Ambushes that;
1) Don't spawn on top of you
Quote:2) Don't auto-home like a rabid bloodhound
Yes, I mean this as a Stalker, too.
Quote:3) Don't auto detect through stealth
Quote:Originally Posted by Samuel TowSimply making ambushes target your location would solve 90% of the problems they present. It makes sense for SOME ambushes to be location-targeted ("Someone hacked the mainframe/broke into the safe!") Making that the sum total of what they do, though? Boring, bland, and pointless. -
Quote:But we're not talking "hard." We're talking "needless annoyance."I don't see any reason to nerf the enemies either, at least not in this regard. (I would certainly LOVE it if they cut out the "phasing while mezzed" garbage.) They're supposed to be hard. Might as well just reduce the pets summoned to just the Phantasm if you're aiming to make it easier.
The decoy phantasm's not supposed to do much but... be a decoy. And it hangs around doing nothing but prolonging a "Let's see how many times the AI can't find its way down a ramp" rescue that's already irritating. And I'll bring up caltrops again. Really... quaking in terror at *caltrops?* walk over them and freaking follow me, don't make me stand around for several minutes trying to make small talk and pretending to admire the bizzarre paintings on the wall while waiting for the damn things to despawn. -
Quote:You do realize everyone else is talking about NPCs, right?Just so we're clear, are you actually arguing that the devs should nerf a powerset that players get?
NPCs can certainly have the "same" powers as players behaving differently (see the various NPC MOGs, for instance.) -
Quote:... except that's not true.True.
And if the supply dries up, the only ones available will be the ones the marketeers bought for resale.
The "fast and easy" (sometimes) way might be dry (the market,) but just playing the game will get whatever drops/salvage you want, either directly or via various types of merits. -
Quote:"One of the key elements to this great cataclysm is the Rikti War that is currently occurring."Yeah, I'd sure like to know how the Rikti are connected. It's almost a non sequitur. The only connection I can think of is the fact that the Rikti repelled their reality's version of the Battalion from their world millennia ago.
It could be any number of things, especially being asked to assassinate a specific general. They defeat someone who otherwise has a key to changing something that will slow or stop the invasion, or it pushes another event forward (or back,) or the general is one of those that still wants to eradicate Humanity instead of making peace when peace is what unlocks tech to humanity...
Pebbles, ripples, all that. -
Quote:You may want to re-read that. Especially the colored, bolded part.It was pretty funny when my Warshade did the Ouroboros introduction arc to be told, "Twilight's Son is the last of his race. The Kheldians have been wiped out and used as a source of energy to power the ships of a deadly alien force in the far distant future."
I even made sure to jump into Nova form before I started the chat for lol purposes. Not sure if this has been brought up before or not, but I thought I'd put it out there. -
Also for reference:
1. You'll be able to unlock missions at 20, 30 and 40 for new slots, as well as use halloween salvage (ask your sg, or once you get some money in, check Wentworth's/Black Market for Back Alley Brawler gloves, Hamidon costume, Statesman mask and Lord recluse mask) to turn in once to a specific character for one other slot, any level.
2. Bookmark the wiki in my sig. -
Sometimes, depending on the character. May just unlock them to unlock them, though.

Quote:What would coming from another planet have to do with it?What is an origin anyways? Is Superman a Natural because everyone from his planet has the same abilites or is he a Science because he comes from another planet?
Would (or could) everyone have the abilities in the same situation/with the same training? Natural.
Were the abilities granted by devices? Tech.
Were the abilities added by scientific experiement? Science.
Are the abilities due to genetic change? Mutant.
Are the abilities magic? You figure that one out.
Is there overlap? Yep. I've got "natural" magic characters - the abilities are magic, but everyone like them would have the same abilities. Magic use is like breathing. So "natural." Robots could be called "tech," but every robot of that sort would have the ability, so "natural." Is a mutation mutation if it's due to a science experiment?
Find whatever you like for whatever reason you like, and pick that.
Quote:I usually choose 'natural' because I like to toss the dagger at people. I'm 'naturally' a mutant because I was born this way. I'm naturally a tech because without the power suit im nothing. I'm natually magic because I got these powers from reading a book, or everyone from my dimension has these same powers....
Quote:I could wish that Origin choice had some sort of actual game impact but then people would gripe that one Origin story line had something they wanted. In the long run it's more of a personal choice than anything else anyways so I am pretty happy with the current set up. -
Three things... hmmm.
1. Plots and writing. Have some story arcs that just deal with one group, 10 levels or so worth, have others stretch farther out, have some run 1-50 going through various groups (with different possible outcomes based on your choices,) fix all the spelling and grammar mistakes, and have them change - some disappearing and being replaced, some just getting updated.
2. Update graphics - bring everything to the same quality, so that something looks gritty because it's supposed to, get the various costume bits to the same quality, update character models (FINGERS! I WANT FINGERS! And expressions) and the like.
3. Make sure all sub-systems in this game (by which I mean inventions, AE, PVP and bases, mostly) have people dedicated to them so they don't just gather dust. Inventions could use some new sets, swapping out some older, less-well-thought-out sets (say to a vendor,) for instance. The other three have been covered time and time again. -

Quote:Don't have all my boxes, but with that change I searched through emails, snagged the codes, tracked down my COV collector boxes (since I *did* keep those, after all) - then grabbed the info from the two accounts and played "Match the last 4."Since late 2009, they send a confirming email with the full code after you apply it. Oh, and I do have all my CoH Boxes that are tied to my account.
Should be enough, I'd hope, should I ever need it. -
If there's a large turnout, weed some out under Atlas.
Take the next group into the AE, studio B. Thus giving you standard lighting AND disabling powers.
