Dedicated Costume Contests Area
I have been thinking about this for a while now. One of the things I love about this game is the great diversity in Costumes. The devs have done a great job in making sure my hero doesn't look like your hero or the guy's over there. We have such an abundant array of costume peices that one of the events that naturally arose were Costume Contests. I love these player run events. To see so many individuals show up and show off is exciting for many. However, there are logistical issues with hosting large CCs. When in a zone such as Atlas Park or Galaxy City, small things like lighting and Zone Population can hinder the organization of one. Hosting in a base is nice but the issue comes from having to make sure that you have enough Supergroup members to host the teams if the CC gets to large.
So my suggestion: Create a dedicated Map for Costume Contests. 1. This can allow for optimal lighting at all times. 2. We can have a catwalk of some sort for players to strut their stuff. 3. The judges can have a spot to sit and render their judgements. |
This suggestion would've been better made around 2007.
I think that's the last time I actually saw a CC being held anywhere, on any server...
It used to be that no more than a few hours would go by before another one would start up under Atlas. These days I don't even see it being advertised, save the pre-set forum organized ones.
In fact, I was so perplexed by the lack of CC's that I decided to try doing one myself for the 1st time, since I now have the bank to do so.
I advertised in Broadcast during primetime on Infinity.
CC starting under Atlas in 10 minutes. 1st place 500 million, 2nd place 100 million, 3rd place 50 million. Then I waited.... and waited...
20 minutes later I gave the 1 guy that ran over to the Statue his 'Winnings' and called it a night.
Then I got to wondering why this is. When in the past I would've been swarmed upon the announcement and had a line of at least 10 Heroes in front of me. My only conclusion was the prize offered was just small change these days, with so many ways to earn influence it just wasn't perceived as 'worth it' to stand around for minutes on end.
I miss the days of constant CC's. Sadly I feel those days are gone and devoting Dev time and resources to create a place for formal ones would end up being a waste imo.
As an aside, you could always create an Arc with the Atlas park model runway as the only map and hold it there. That way you'd have a catwalk of sorts.

Keep Calm & Chive On!
Play on Virtue, or any other highly populated server. CCs happen regularly.
And I don't think we need a map dedicated to CCs.
What Xzero45 said. Heck, just this last Wednesday I saw three costume contests, all right under Atlas. They still happen.
A supergroup (whose names escapes me at the moment) hosted a costume contest in Pinnacle's Pocket D just this past...I want to say Friday?
A costume contest is gonna have better turnout if you advertise it in a global channel versus Atlas Broadcast. People don't spend as much time in Atlas anymore because there are more places (and more interesting places) to spend time.

We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
So long as it's in the Atlas Park sewers, where it belongs, I'll be happy.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
I have nothing against the Costume Contests but I really don't think the Devs need to spend any time "institutionalizing" them by creating a dedicated place designed specifically for them. People will manage well enough regardless.
Besides if the Devs are going to spend any extra time creating content I'd rather have them give us the often-rumored "Moon zone" than a place that looks like the set of American Idol.

If there's a large turnout, weed some out under Atlas.
Take the next group into the AE, studio B. Thus giving you standard lighting AND disabling powers.
Ahh Studio B....very interesting idea. Thank you. That does fill the need if not in a flashy shiny new toy kind of way hehe.
