Quote:The origin temp powers were originally designed to be phased out by level 10 - disappearing entirely from the tray. They're also nowhere near the universal (and *purchased*) use that Ninja Run gets.I'm going to have to agree with TCS here. If "keep Ninja Run in because some people use that as their sole travel power" is a valid argument then "allow the origin temps because some people use them as their only means of lighting Oil Slick Arrow" should also be a valid argument.
Vastly different situations. And he has other options available to him. -
TA/Ice:
Slot Frost Breath with the Positron's Blast Chance for Energy Damage proc.
Use one of the three (of four) APP choices that do an Energy/NE component to light it. -

Not that I was expecting anything else from a puff piece (hey, it's nice to get the word out that the game is still alive I guess) but I hope that there's some frank discussion going on about what is wrong with the endgame, and what will be done to fix that.
Yeah, getting word out that the game's expanding is great, but playing it like "Oh, everyone loves it and wants more!" just does a disservice to everyone. And that seems to be reflected already in some of the comments. -
/obligatory disagreement with Evilgeko.

They allow ninja run because some people have that as their only travel power. I'm reasonably sure you have more attacks than just the origin temp power.

If we had only one server, maybe. We have 15 with the EU servers. For each zone that got "unlocked," you'd have to have separate contacts, missions, etc - and you just *know* that there'll be a bug that puts someone's newspaper mission or TF mission in one of the "locked" zones.

No, I wouldn't buy one.
It doesn't make sense for me to, and it doesn't make sense for the devs to set something like this up as a pack. Costumes? You know only the account that buys it is going to use it. Bases? You're affecting from 1-150 people per SG (assuming each sg member is one account.) And only one would have to have it.
Unlike costumes, I could buy the pack, then volunteer to join an SG a day and spread it out. If you're looking at the devs making money - this is a money loser. For costumes, I can keep using them, mixing and matching, creating hundreds of alts with up to five costume slots a piece.
How many bases exist? How many people make multiple bases, and continually rework them?
Also, I *know* that I can buy a pack, go into the costume creator and use it right away. Nobody's going to tell me I can't, or delete the item. Base items? There's no guarantee I'll have base editing permission, or if I do, that the people in charge of the SG will let the item stay. It'd be like me running out right now and buying high-performance parts for, say, a classic Boss Mustang. I don't have one. I don't know that I ever will. Why would I buy parts I may not ever have a use for?
No, base "packs" don't make sense to me. -
Animating bugs away.
I do have to say, though, that if the only reason to push for a pool for the other ATs is to "make it fair," that's just not a reason.
That said, I'd started throwing together a "project" of - for lack of a better way of putting it, "pure" power combos to see if it'd be a worthwhile chase. Now, being thorough and adding Judgement in, of course, there's only 4-5 sets that could be done (depending on if you count Ion as "part of" an energy set or not.) But I was rather surprised at some of what was missing just on the APP level - I just hadn't looked at it much before. There are some definite gaps that could be filled just to keep some themes going. -
Quote:For some people. You aren't everyone. Some people find the best part is that they can create a character with an actual unique look (as opposed to Orc #398734298742 with Reguar Armor of Level 30 Like Everyone Else) and solo it from 1-50 at your own pace.best part of this game is making new friends and teaming with people you've never met and building community

"Care about the character," unfortunately, is ... really vague, and up to individual taste.
Some people "care about the character" in terms of going nuts with IO sets and coming up with the "perfect" build - that, also, being a matter of taste. They look at it as a project to squeeze the most of something (defense, best DPS, etc.) out of that character.
Some people "care about the character" by making it an actual *character.* This can be through RP with others, or just internally - you come up with a bio, you make decisions (even if you're not "RPing with a group" or whatnot) depending on what that character would do - would they make it a point to go after, or avoid, certain enemies, even if it's really inconvenient (or suicidal?) Have they got a vendetta?
Some people "care about" getting the most badges, or finding someone else to PVP with.
So - what's going to do it for you? That's something you have to answer for yourself.
Now, admittedly, part of it *is* what you pointed out - finding somethign that's not very challenging. For me, for instance, I almost got turned off of Masterminds because of my first one - a Robotics/Force Field MM. Very thematic for a "autonomous battlefield tactical unit" as that MM was... but boring as *hell* to play, to me. I went to the MM forums, described what was going on (which really boiled down to "I feel like a spectator when playing him,") and they suggested a few sets... which led to my Thugs/Poison, which was a blast getting to 50. It kept me busy with buffs, debuffs, healing my pets and teammates and the like. It was fun. (Still is.)
So, looking at your MA scrapper - what was the secondary? Something "set and forget?" Did you like it, or the scrapper play style otherwise? Then look into another secondary - Regen, for instance, being something you have to keep on top of. Or try them as a Stalker - different playstyle, lower hit points and different things to worry about. (My only 50 stalker is an MA/Regen, btw.)
(Personal preferences tend to lean toward (non-Illusion) Controllers, Dominators and Kheldians.) -
Quote:Because this:I...guess so. I apologize i was so negative >.<
I still just dont understand it though. I have... a lot of people in my global friend list (100 or so maybe?) and i easily team with about half-1/4 of them regularly. And i met almost every last one of them in pugs. Just don't know why someone wouldn't want that.
is not the COH playerbase. It's made of a bunch of different people with different interests and preferences. -
I think, quite frankly, the OP needs to actually sit down and play Kinetics - and actually pay *attention* to what the powers do - for a while if they really think all of the above.

Quote:Aside from Bluebattler's comment, there's one other item that would make a big difference when it comes to accepting Rikti (as opposed to Kheldians, or player-created "races.")This raises another interesting question: We chide the Rikti Traditionalists for not accepting us into our society unless we convert completely and fully, but were they to attempt to enter our society, how accepting would WE be of them? Even getting past the "Icky aliens!" rash of xenophobia, how far would humans be willing to accept and integrate what are factually alien beings of a completely different mentality, morality and ideology into their inner society?
The Rikti didn't just show up here as visitors. They showed up as invaders, for (as far as the rest of the world was concerned) no good reason and launched a sneak attack. They decimated the population, destroyed major cities, and were only pushed back after horrendous losses and the sacrifice of a number of heroes.
That's a very recent event in COH history. (With "Round two" having kicked off - invasion was, what, issue 9? - and still having the occasional attack by fractured forces.)
It was easier for us (speaking from a Western world viewpoint) to forgive the Germans, even after finding out about the Holocaust, because they "looked like us." Admittedly, being in a divided nation and being the focal point of the Cold War helped that, but so did the overall European heritage of the western world. Fighting against the "funny little" Japanese tended to be more vicious on both sides, not because of things like Nanking but because they were different - they were "not us." Fortunately we had saner heads at the end of the war when it came to rebuilding, and I'm sure the Korean war did much of the same work as the Cold War when it came to accepting them again.
Now take a visibly different race. Most people aren't going to know about the "mutated human" bit - though I suspect, if COH ever went far enough lorewise into integration of the Rikti into society, that information would be released. But it would be far harder to overcome that distrust of someone so "other" who, from your point of view, attacked you from out of nowhere and slaughtered millions.
Heck, look how hard it is for some of the Rikti to accept - accepting (or not accepting) that we didn't actually do that to THEM is part of the reason for a schism in *their* society. -
A suggestion.
- You really
- should
- try writing in
- solid paragraphs,
- using lists
- only where
- appropriate.
- Your love of
- using the list feature makes
- going through your posts
- rather annoying to read.
Going through what you did write, I can say that yes yes, all I can see as a reason for this is "Johnny_Taxybot's Ego" still, despite your disclaimer. You also made some assumptions in the examples I gave - such as the person who "donated" several million "realizing the SG isn't active." I never made such a statement. All three would be in the same SG. Mentioning "the" supergroup once should, I'd expect, have made that a clear baseline. I'm not sure where you got the idea "This is from an inactive SG," short of trying to set up some manner of strawman for yourself to knock down.
My "claim," as you put it, for your preferences goes solely by what you've been posting, in which you seem to link a player's "value" to a supergroup to that Prestige amount.
I'm also rather - I'm not sure if it's baffled or amused by your post count comment. I invite you to search my posting history and look at the number of times I've referred to my post count. (I believe you'll find me refer to it positively once, due to someone mentioning being nearly at some interesting number, and negatively a few times - where I'm specifically saying I don't care about it, because it is meaningless.) Another strawman you decided to set up, that has nothing to do with your suggestion. And yes, if it went away, I wouldn't care.
Last, you were kicked from your supergroup for inactivity. At that point, your contributing "life" ended. Much like if I went back to one of my old jobs I'd have to start back at "day 1" of seniority, your "contributing life" to the SG has started over. If you know you're going to leave and be beyond, potentially well beyond, the SG's kick limit, you're consciously making that choice - and any "penalties" that go with it. If you want to preserve your prestige count (knowing that Prestige is not lost, or yours to begin with, belonging to the SG) then do the following:
1. Open a Photobucket account, or other site - or use the personal web hosting your ISP may provide.
2. Go into game.
3. Type "Screenshotui 1"
4. Open the SG window, locate your name.
5. Press "PrtScr" to take a screenshot.
6. Type "Screenshotui 0" to turn off UI capture.
7. Save that screenshot and give a link to refer to it later. -
Quote:Eh. I don't know. Unless I'm misunderstanding you. But going in and playing with (but not being able to apply the changes from) the costume creator from "anywhere" just seems like a bit more hassle. (And no, it's not like slotting IOs over SOs, etc. - unless you routinely "slot" IOs but have to go somewhere else for them to take effect.)It's no different than calling a contact from anywhere in the game when you get the same briefings, missions, and story progression by meeting them in person. Or using Ouro portals and SG base teleporters when you can get anywhere using trains, ferries, and helicopters. Or slotting IO sets when basic IOs, SOs, and DOs do the job just fine.
It's not reinventing the wheel or making an older model obsolete. It's simply adding another way to skin a cat.
The one specific issue I'd have with it, of course, is that the costume creator interface takes up the entire screen. In the tailor, you're in a safe zone (barring someone doing something stupid to grief people.) If you just stop somewhere you "think" is safe, you can still get killed - and you won't see what's going on until you exit.
Now, if you're just looking for more tailor access? Throw a "Tailor terminal" in the SG base. That, I'd go for - along with a WW terminal and the like. -
Quote:I'd argue that's not necessarily the case. The Rikti Ambassador had to struggle to think/speak like a human again. B'na'dk (or however it's spelled) was fitting in just fine until he saw his brother and that "broke." Had he been in there longer, it's quite possible it wouldn't have. And the Rikti are telepaths, so they have a kind of hive mind going. A recent convert would stick out just because they still think like a human.
It's a question, I suppose, of just how "recent" the conversion was - but it doesn't seem to take a long time for full "riktithink" to set in. At first they might sound like "I am a happy to seeing you be" to a native Rikti, but given the 'hive mind,' I'm fairly sure that they'd learn quickly. -
Quote:Er...Well for me the reason is that if i get a item of power i might be able to use that as a recruitment angle since like you there just rely 2 active members. As for the rest i could like to see that too.
The CoP no longer gives an Item of Power.
Wiki entry here - specifically:
Quote:Items of Power are powerful relics that Supergroups may acquire by completing the Cathedral of Pain Trial. (The Trial was made unavailable on October 11, 2006 due to an exp exploit. It returned in Issue 18, but no longer gives Items of Power. -

And yeah... Numina/Positron? Where did that come from? Honestly - ignore it. She's a longstanding colleague and friend. Leave it at that and go on with the story.
(Have I mentioned my various gripes with the devs and lore lately?) -
Quote:... I love this.I couldn't agree more. Let's not also forget that Paragon, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria are a City of Super Heroes, a City of super Villains, a paranoid police state respectively, it'd be easy to imagine that the office buildings (To say nothing about any of the other places) would have panic rooms, shutters and sturdy doors to lock areas down, people working in them erecting barricades, or even the enemies raiding the building have brought portable shield wall generators or made their own barricades to impede your progress. And then there's the idea of other security measures spawning, such as batteries mini-defense turrets, security cameras (in the form of those laser strobes from mayhem missions), or even just traps laid out by others.
I can think of so many ways to use some of those. Those "Find exit" missions that are generally pointless? Not so pointless if the layout has changed (via traps/shield generators) behind you.
Or more ways to come up with "Alternate victory" conditions - stealthing something, or being able to control multiple points at once to make it easier/harder...
mmmm. -
Wondering if this is just a quirk or not -
Just (as in seconds ago) finished running Darrin Wade's arc - you know the one, get relics, infiltrate the midnighters, steal more from there.
As I started to escape, it struck me that something was missing... namely, nothing striking me from the Living Armor normally camped around the place. It just wasn't THERE.
Really takes some of the fun out of things not having it around to dodge. And the rest of the midnighters, while "hostile," never aggroed.
Recent change, bug, or just a quirk with my run of that mission?
