Hear, hear.
I particularly enjoyed the characterization of these two contacts. Laura smiles in a wry fashion, Graham is jumpy egotist... very, very nice touches in stories that are self-contained and add some additional flavor to some under-utilized villain groups.
I was also appreciative that there were options that did not require a darkety-dark resolution when choices were offered. Not having played every possible branching option, I presume there are d-d options built in, but it was refreshing to have choices that were more Silver Age than Tim Burton. -

Now it all makes sense. I keep thinking of malware as just being a form of griefing... causing misery just to cause it. These folks are certainly upping the ante.
The guy behind it is probably that Nigerian official who now needs my help smuggling all of his loot out of his country. -
The tension between exposition in the plot, plot events and the trappings like character development is very tricky to resolve.
Do it well, and you have "Casablanca," which has a pretty simple story but is drenched with memorable characters and wonderful dialogues.
Do it poorly and a glaring example comes to my mind in which the film devolved into a rampant deathfest in the last two minutes in which not only was every participant in the film was summarily killed (as in, *BLAM* *DEAD* with nothing more), but a narrator then intoned that the entire planet had in fact been destroyed. The End.
CoH has had work that approaches both of these extremes. I have never played SSA1.7 which you like so well because the greatly fanfared and spoiled Death Of Statesman failed on so many levels, which I shall not belabor here. I did the next one, where Malaise attacks Sister Psyche, and have been totally put off them since. The Doppleganger arcs and what I had done in DA so far, however, are quite good.
One would hope that the CoH writers would lean towards what have been commonly acclaimed as well-done arcs and away from the poor ones, but if it were easy, they would all have been great in the first place. But here's hoping. -
Quote:I got hit with this going to a CoHTitan page I had used hundreds of times before. The Faces opening apparently allowed a number of other pages to send the toxic payload to those going to the page and it ripped through every layer of anti-malware protection that I had. Tony V was very upfront and timely with updates about the efforts to fix things. We didn't have a "virus" before, technically. Some poophead injected crap into a loophole in the Faces site.
The irritating part of such odious behavior is that it used to be that you had to go to a "suspect" site or click on a link for these things to happen, but apparently there are bots in China and elsewhere that continually search for internet sites with vulnerabilities and attach their evil payloads to them.
It took a fairly potent cocktail of additional anti-malware to rub the infection out, but I have been all-clear since. CoHTitan is typically very careful; stuff happens. I do not blame them and Tony's efforts and communication were well-received on my part.
What I do not understand, though, is why these particular malware infections take the form of an "ad" for anti-malware scans, etc., that encourage you to click on a link for various services. At that point, your computer is thoroughly infected and slammed... why do they need you to further click on a link? It is as though they have zapped you with a lethal dose of radiation then encourage you to drink this "medicine" which is actually poison. I freely admit I do not understand the mental pathologies of those creating the malware, but this certainly seems like overkill. -
Methinks there is a tragic tale concerning certain differences between the Twitter feed splash page and the current in-game splash page.

I was wondering what Joaquin Phoenix was up to lately!

For about an hour or so yesterday, the Forums would not accept my password and locked me out for a 15 minute period. No matter how carefully I tried, it gave my password the buzzer. It also told me I had two more tries left, then locked me out after just one more (sort of like bypassing the Triple Dare and going right for the Triple Dog Dare.
) I got an email alert that someone had tried and failed after 5 tries.
And I returned about an hour later and got in first try.
Did that happen to anyone else yesterday? -
The Mission Architect could be so great...
I have played some great arcs with fine writing. I have also run into obvious (AND poorly-written) farms, and I have also had 10 absolutely invisible and unbeatable NPC stalkers !!ASSASSIN STRIKE!! me dead within two seconds of entry. Quite a range of results.
What is absolutely needed is a better search/rating mechanism. There has to be a way to find the gems beyond word-of-mouth. It is pretty tough to get a team together for a MA run since it is a dicey proposition what you will find. And I cannot even assess if the rewards for doing an MA arc are reasonable or not.
There are a good number of great arcs. Finding them among all the dreck is very, very tough. -
Quote:Alas, my "Six Slotted For Damage In His Nuke" Blaster back then was Electric Blast. I kept waiting for the "kills everything outright" part, but what happened was that after the baddies quit shaking, I was making my co-pay at the hospital again. There were a couple of arguments at the time asking "Why would you need a Controller to hold stuff when you could get a Blaster to just kill stuff outright?" (City of Blasters) and what you needed a Defender for when his or her buffs did nothing for you.
I have since rolled Blasters to 50 who probably would have killed everything outright, but I never got to enjoy Blaster Godhood Back In The Day. I did get a pretty cool screenshot of about 200 of Chimera's ninjas chasing a tank as I hovered above, though, before those days, too, passed into history.
And yet I don't really feel I was cheated, since I have never conceived of my heroes as being all-powerful Superman types, but rather more like Spider-man: very formidable, but hardly all-powerful. And I also enjoy teaming and figuring out how to interact with the other heroes on the team to solve particular problems. Usually the team is happy to let me Wormhole the Nems out of the Multi-Platform Room of Death into the hallway with my Grav Controller, unless Leeroy Jenkins is playing. Leeroy just is not happy unless he can rush in willy-nilly and bludgeon everything without a second's thought and always walk away smiling.
Not me. That is why I am fond of Ice Slick and Freezing Rain and my Elec/Time Controller who can slow the baddies down and/or put them to sleep while draining them of all their power. It is not always 100% effective, and that is the challenge. How do I solve the problem if solo, or how do we leverage the team's abilities to solve the problem? That is a big reason I am still here 7 years later. -

Quote:Ice Slick really should have something extra though. It trades the -ToHit Earthquake has for a bit more slippyness. Some useful debuffage would be good (I think -damage as no Controller primary has that and it's a nice counter to the -toHit in quake). That or a Chance to Stun or something (something like Shadow Field but with Stuns)
Chance to Stun or -Damage or -Defense or ALL THREE would make a great deal of sense for Ice Slick. The other problem is that Ice Slick cannot take ANY IO sets. I Proc the heck out of Freezing Rain, which also has great debuffs in addition to the slippery stuff, but Ice Slick gets nada.
My first 50 is Ice/FF, who got to enjoy Multiple Jacks for 3 days before ED went active. I also have a 50 Ice/Storm and am leveling an Ice/Time, so I really concur that Ice Slick could use some love, because the Immobers are gonna Immob, so at least let Ice Slick debuff or something like Freezing Rain does. -
Quote:Shouldn't you be ordering Omega Wolf to come in early to get that done? Rank hath its privileges, right?Actually, I am the one that is doing the Paragon Market publish every Tuesday. Half of the publish is automated while the other half has to be done manually.

Quote:*the assembled masses roar their approval*Hello everyone!
I appreciate the feedback youve all been given here and on the beta forums. Ive just made the following changes:

2) Positrons Pal will be given out when completing, A Heros Epic, the new Maria Jenkins arc
3) Sister Psyches Comrade will remain the same and be given out when completing Psyches task force in flashback once Issue 23 is launched.
4) Penelope Yins Friend will be rewarded when completing her new task force
5) The Task Force Commander badge will be rewarded by having either Penelope Yins Friend or Sister Psyches Comrade
Thanks again for all your feedback!

Quote:So much about "Who Will Die?" has given me this exact reaction. It is just sad.Really?
Really?!
That's just sad. They need to fix it so we can have both. I have to say I'll be really, really disappointed if this goes live.
I would hope this is just one of those things they just did not think through too carefully, because so much of this looks really, really bad. -
Well, Macca Armour simply annihilated everything from early 1963 to mid-1970. I think it is the only other left-handed set besides Katana.

I would enjoy seeing the adventures of Breakneck.
But ONLY if Troy Hickman scripted them. -

Wait, how many drinks should everyone take here?

Pretty much how I understand it now to work.
My points for this month should roll in early next week, so I shall be watching how the Staffers are doing. I don't play Melee much at all, but this could be good. -
Quote:Back in i3, I was such a newb that the only way I could start a team was to go to the Hollows and ask the other players I saw standing near Wincott. When I got a team invite from someone I could not see, I would ask them How On Earth did they see me to ask me. After a number of "looked at me like I had lobsters coming out of my ears" responses, a kindly vet explained Search.I completely disagree. I like seeing other players around. The NPC's walking here and there are also nice. But seeing actual players going about their business (street sweeping, sitting or standing around with other players chatting, etc.) makes me feel like I'm in a real world. It helps a lot with immersion for me.
I enjoy seeing all the costumes and reading the bios (not too many of those, it seems). Some times you just cannot form a team (you know it's a bad night when even Blasters turn you down) so seeing a group of heroes in a venue is a nice touch when I see it.
