softballs?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, easy questions. And I feel the same way with them. Dev interview cool, the questions the were 'meh' at best. The only tid-bit I got from the interview was that at some point Castle intends to try to go back and try to adjust some powers based on animation times.
This is the biggest problem with some powers, like Greater Ice Sword for Tanks, where they look alright on paper except for the long animation times. Personally I hope that the adjustments come sooner, much much sooner rather then later. I'd be dancing a jig if it could be done before the next Issue enters the closed testing phase. So that answer by Castle gave me both hope and concern.
=^_^=

You perfectly summed up my thoughts and concerns as well. -
Am i the only one who feels that, despite the softballs lobbed at castle by the interviewer, he didn't really answer anything at all? i feel like i just read an interview with a politician. i got absolutely nothing out of that interview whatsoever, except that he can give vague answers with the best of them.

though I like that you guys are thinking about the Sewer Trial and Eden Trial, I still don't believe you are thinking of it in the correct way.
What you have in those two Trials are two fun, interesting encounters that people have little incentive to mess with now after 40. You've created content for 3 levels, essentially.
Here's my suggestion. Rather than limiting the multi enhancements to the level range for the trial, switch the Eden and Sewer multi enhancements over to Invention Enhancement tech. Make them a level 40 enhancement that never decays.
This gives incentive for people to continue to run the trials after they reach 40. I see no downside to this.

and yet another boggling move on the part of the dev's.. -
this sounds like a good start to a faq made by you.
instead of delving into what powers to pick or not to pick, show how to use them to the best advantage in a PuG.
i look forward to reading the next post! -
i use the hotfeet/CC combo, but this is a good idea. if you want to focus more on power and less on team play, you could ditch the rez and the dead body bomb. while the rez is great for team play, the other is very situational. it IS however a must to have recall friend. nothing is funnier than watching 2-3 rads nuke a corpse to clear a mob group.

being in the service taught me how to take orders and how to lead. you can't hardly lead people if you can't take orders yourself.
playing this game has taught me teaming skills, as well as what i call the skill of "consession". sometimes i have to realize that othr people may have idea's that are as good or better than mine. you have to be able to give and take in order to work with some people.
unfourtunatly, this game doesn't teach respect or maturity. -
I met a fire/fire tanker named flamerator (i think) on freedom doing a farm for a lil money. Let me just say we had a fire/kin doing one half of the map anda fire/fire tank doing the other half of the map. the owner of the toon said it cost alot of money, but she has "the most optimum sloting possible for her toon". (this was on the BM map) the troller, named khindra (i think..)(i am bad with names) was witness to this. basicly, seeing this very impressive display of power from my buddy flamerator made me want to roll a fire/fire tank. the owner plays on freedom, so if you see her, ask for the build. i have seen alot of tanks, but not one who could solo a farm map made for 6 people by themselves in good time without a bit of help. i am telling you, i was honestly wow'd.

i set mine like your with a 128mb CARD and all is well. however, VSAA had to be turned off. it absolutely will not work. i droped from 20fps to 7.
Now i understand everything some. also, with a 7.4 version CCC, alot of the options are slightly diff. i just left some on default and changed the others. vsaa and Vsync, as well as AF make the biggest diff i have seen. as for shading quality, you are spot on!
also, my screen will go black if i turn vsaa on. hope that helps.. -
I think some basic stats would make all the math nerds happy. maybe a basic guide to playing that doesnt go obselete. Oh, and notice how the post started with a request and turned into a discussion? happens every time....sigh

I consider myself an avid yet casual player and I want to see the numbers. I say avid because I've been into superhero RP games since Champions and V&V all those years ago. I say casual because for the first two months or so I didn't bother to visit these boards. I wanted to experience the game for myself...to learn things on my own. I still avoid spoiler posts for that reason.
However 10 years in Quality Assurance has made me doubt the abilities of others. This is not any kind of a slam on the Dev's abilities. I'm not a computer programmer or game designer and I'm sure their skills in these area dwarf mine and always will. But the devs are human and make mistakes just like the rest of us.
I originally came to the boards because my very first character, a Blaster, was having trouble leveling in the early teens. It was then that I discovered MANY things that board-goers consider common knowledge.
No, you don't NEED to endure the Hollows. Just visit the Contact there and then head to King's Row.
You didn't run your first 6-8 levels in the Sewers? It took you HOW long to get to lvl 10? You got your Tough Badge (100k of damage sustained) HOW early? Wow...
Yeah, the first few levels can be kind of a drag, until you get a temp movement power that is. What do you mean 'Huh?' You DON'T know about the temp movement Powers? You've been using HOVER to cross the Hollows? Wow...
And my all-time favorite: Why do you Hover all the time in fights? Oh you slotted Hover for Defense! Why? No, the Def bonus is NOT 15%. Yeah I know that the mouse-over says TOs are +5% Def each...oh you slotted 3 of them? Ok...let me explain how this REALLY works...
Before the veterans here begin a bunch of finger-pointing and suggesting that EVERYONE knows that the Def bonus from Hover is actually the bonus to the BASE and not a raw number let me add that I'm a 40 year-old writer with a college degree who reads everything in-game as it comes up. Now no offense but if I didn't figure it out then a bunch of others won't either.
Not long after this last eye-opener I found the link to ShirkSilver's character planner and laid out my Blaster as he was. Now I'd figured out ED (or something like it) by just looking at the values as things were slotted. Ok...third one not as good as the first two...got it. Whoa...fourth one is a big drop...no sense in messing with that. I'll slot End Redux instead and move on. Shirksilver's planner revealed how my build was almost totally borked IMHO and no wonder I was having trouble leveling post-9 in the world of debt.
Oh btw I discovered the wonderful world of DOs not from the game anywhere but from another player. He noticed that I was lvl 11 and cued me in. I believe that the leveling message at 12 mentiones DOs but I'm not sure. Needless to say about ten seconds after I dinged 12 I was off to Cooke's for a set.
I read somewhere that an estimated 10% of the player base comes to boards. Wow...10%...I wonder what the rest of the players do? Well based on personal observation some of them leave in frustration. I teamed with a lvl 17 Blaster and the player was bemoaning how tough everything was on Diff 3 (I always forget the names sorry). I asked him if he had all of his DOs slotted (because several of my alts couldn't afford full sets at 12) and he asked what a DO was.
During the double xp weekend I gathered about a dozen of my friends together on temp accounts to play hoping that we could all form a SG like our Champions days of old. About half made it past lvl 10, those that didn't citing all of the 'stupid running around' and 'lack of in-game information' as their main reasons. I was on for most of the weekend just to answer their questions because I didn't want to send them to the boards on their first day to look for stuff that all of us felt should be available from the game itself somewhere.
So today I hit my 6-month veteran mark and more than ever I want to see the real numbers behind the game. Why? Because of all of the rumor and innuendo flying around about how this works or that works. I saw somewhere that Insps are not actually giving the listed bonuses. Do I believe the source? The OP had a post count in the mid-4 digits and while several others responded no one refuted him. So now who do I believe?
No, as much as I love this game there have been enough mistakes, misunderstandings and (IMHO) downright bits of misinformation to shake my faith in much of the information out there. Now I want to see what the real values are...not some reverse-engineered figure.
Were it not for the flubs and mistakes I would slavishly believe everything the game tells me. Now that I know that I can't I want to see for myself. To those who say that releasing the figures will destroy the immersion got news for you: The Immersive players won't come looking for it. They'll go merrily one enjoying the game as they always have.
But me...I want to see some numbers.

I feel you pain buddy. i almost left and i went through all of those things. this is one of the smartest posts i have read. great writing! -
i doubt very seriously supply and demand will EVER loosen up the prices any. At the most, I see them making it much harder for the sake of keeping rarity up to make this worth while. Nice idea...aint gonna happen.
(what good is good stuff if it isnt rare and is cheap to get?) -

Just wanted to say:
Thanks so much for this guide. I've been tweaking with my x1300 and getting low FPS for the longest time. Now the game looks good AND plays good!
Thanks!

so there is hope? -
I love this guide. I am modeling my base after it. I wish I knew how to make TP pads and what all was needed to make them. Make more guides and How to's!

If you people havent figured out that the costume drops and rare salvage, combined with a hundred new badges, are designed to get you on and keep you on, no matter how it inconvieniaces you, then you never will.
I don't mind having to earn a few different costume pieces..
I mean, look at WoW...once you max out your guy, what is there left to do? obtain the hardest of the hard costume pieces and get a cool mount. that is what this game is coming to...and for good reason. It gets you hooked!
I love the Io sets, but hate the amount you have to pay for everything. I say that I'll get them when I get them. Just know that dispite all the complaining, that it is all like this way on purpose, and it is here to stay. complaining that stuff is hard to get is like angel's voices to people who want your monthly payment people!
My only wish is more choices across the board. Some of the costume pieces make zero sence. maybe a few new primarys and secondarys here and there. -

in the mean, have a home for 1.7/1.8?
-
i also would like to hear the above quoted's thoughts. sounds like a good question. um, i am wondering why we are calling it the ambush tower now though.
-
having problems with the new hero stats and version 1.8 of the LCD.
the g15 forums are tedius to navigate.
is there a home for CoHLCD, a stable version of herostats, and anything ELSE you have created or use.
I am a big fan, and would love to see more from you as well as your binds, mods, so on. -
i guess the one thing i like/hate about the statesman TF is that if you have a weak link, a lost player, or a few poorly spec'd toons or bad players, it can not be finished. Now that i think about it. most if not all TF's are like that. never mind.
-
Its crazy how powers like fulcrum shift and vengence turn the tide in some fights. I haven't heard of having LR tag along during the tower tossing. (as opposed to taking him to the boat with an empath tag a long. keeping him in the square with the team isnt a bad idea at all. when i got my badge, we did just that, except we took him to the opposite of whatever tower was being attacked.
any good guides on the new hami yet? -
I agree with the above. We had some PL'd kid who had a ill/rad who had no idea what he was doing or what all of his powers did. he couldn't understand or follow simple directions. we carried the team until LR. We had to call it a night, as 4 OF US INCLUDING A TANK, couldnt keep L.R. at bay. it was so damn sad. I have beaten it once with a great team. A good mix combined with competent players will win every time. I hope you all have better luck than I. I will say I heart my first hami-o :-)
