How much mez protection do you want? I suspect the answer is "enough so I never get held/confused/slept/feared".

    [/ QUOTE ]

there are maybe 5 or 6 empaths in this game that can keep casting cm on team mates while coming under heavy fire. if u cant work out to attack the emp then thats ur problem but i severly doubt its worth nerfing a power based a few very good players

    [/ QUOTE ]

No I'm capable of working that out without your "help" thanks. I'd be interested in what you plan on attacking them with though, since the only villain burst damage AT needs to get into melee range to do it. BTW. I dont find it that hard on my thermal to keep thaw going so I'm not sure I believe the "5 or 6 players..heavy fire" line.

It doesn't negate them in any way, just makes their job a little more difficult. I was keeping a team of 4 heroes perma stacked up with 3 or 4 CM in Sirens a few nights back and the villains team of 2 doms and 2/3 corruptors were regularly stacking holds over that so it can't be that diffcult to do.
Same goes for hide, it's only as big of a problem as you suggest if the stalker is completely reliant on AS, and if you pick up invis you can only be seen at 10 yards no matter how many CM you have.

It will make your life very difficult if you are one of these ATs solo and going up against an empath buffed blaster for instance, but then you're solo against a duo so you should be getting whooped. Also, remember that if there isn't another mez resist buff going round you can just hold the emp..

Excellent, I wonder what other PvP joy I9 will bring.

tp foe resist in a MM's bodyguard mode?

    Brute PvP DM/?

I have a lowbie dm/fire thats a blast to play. Fraid I dont know how it would go in pvp though.
  5. Triage beacon is certainly one of the most skippable powers in there, I dont intend to take it on my sonic/traps.

    Happy birthday :O)
I noticed the cake while I was searching but got too distracted to mention it earlier.

Does this mean you think villains are less powerful than heroes?

Come on, every top PvP team in the US is Hero, in fact show me a succesful team on the EU/US servers that is a majority of Villian AT's.

The only things people want is Thermals, and then they're just a compliment to Empaths with thier Res shields, not even as good when it comes to other buffs or heals.

People who still say Villians are fine are a bit bewildering really o.o

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dont get me wrong. I agree. I just thought I was one of about 5 who thought that. Seems most people say "lol. pvp is balanced, learn to play and get a team", or "I pvp'd as a villain in bloody bay once for about 5 minutes and owned" while laughing up there sleeve. Then at the next pvp event they are like "I'm playing an ice/em blaster and would really like to team with an empath, preferably ill/emp".

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Nailed . Right there.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not just Thermals, Kin Corruptors, Rad Corruptors, Cold Corruptors, and a properly built Dominator.

Corruptors are great as all they need is a small damage buff (forge or 4t or whatever) and they are like blasters, but the buff too! Tell me what is inferior about that.

Meh. Think what you like, false senses of security ftw.

I apologise if this has already been said but this thread is too long to read past the 1st page

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats why the arena is packed to bursting with hero only teams then?
  8. [ QUOTE ]
I remember the thread about that vid. It was interesting. The conclusion was that PvP had been planned for since the start of CoH.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Didnt someone post that like a few days ago? I think its on the suggestions board somewhere.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Top-tier large-team Arena fighting - which I presume is what you're talking about given the content of your post, but correct me if I've misunderstood - is a pretty specialised form of PvP that pretty much requires a "perfect" make-up with regard to powersets. Melee types are pretty much overlooked completely, MMs are unwieldy in all but very small teams, and Doms are a bit of a wildcard that most people don't want to risk playing - when it all boils down to a question of highest (ranged) damage and best buffers/debuffers, it's not really surprising that you end up with teams of Blasters, Defenders, Controllers (overwhelmingly Ill/* at that) and the odd Corruptor.

That's not to say that Villains are any weaker in (more casual) zonal PvP, which I'd tender is where the majority of PvP takes place in CoX - they just don't provide the best buffs, so they often don't get a look-in for Arena (at that level). Fact is, most Zonal PvP tends to see a swing in the balance of power between Heroes and Villains, which says to me that whilst things are not and will not ever be perfectly balanced (because that would be [censored] impossible), they're balanced enough for the purpose.

    $.02

    [/ QUOTE ]

Same teams can play in either arena or zones, so there is nothing to stop an arena, or arenaish team from coming in to wipe the zones. On top of that I dont see why other AT's can be left unwanted in the arena if the game is really all that balanced.

if the Villian AT's were brought up to power of the heros then maybe more would play it and we'd all be happy.

    [ QUOTE ]
And that because PvP was introduced later there should be no real effort in making something out of it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Those people can check the back of the game box where it says "game experience may change during online play".

    [ QUOTE ]
There seem to be quite a few sets and combinations that really rule the coop, and tbh I just got to the stage where I'm bored seeing them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know what you mean. Now when an ice/em blaster wants to fight they just bore me to death.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
I suggest to use your imagination with your AT rather than looking for what is flavour of the month or what is most powerful.Even the less powerful builds hide loads of fun in PvP when it is least expected.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Its a great idea, just a shame so many people would rather play the uber builds. I had awesome fun on my sonic/traps a few days back fighting "shadow bow" in SC. Won some, lost some, learned a lot about traps in pvp.
  13. ice. May as well stack up those slow and recharge debuffs, plus you get powerboost. I could see psi being good as well for debuffing recharge with ice primary, but its lower damage which puts many people off.

    PvP EM/EA

Good to know this isnt a gimped combination, I have an energy/energy on the way up and was tempted to reroll spine/energy or ninja.
  15. Sonic/Traps. Not the most popular choice, but its fun placing your acid mortar into a tanking position, pull your enemies onto poison trap, and grind them down. Plus your damage increases during your attack chain due to the -res in sonic. Good stuff. I like my dark/thermal as well which was built just to support a team.

Okay, since the Arena bug that's afflicting the Live servers does not appear to be affecting Test, we can still go through with this tonight

Level 5 and 10 battles tonight, starting at 8pm!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Test works? I thought the whole thing was goosed.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Rep is shared amongst team members who are in range at the time of the kill. There is no bonus for teaming which seems a little odd.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So he was right then. I still think hes' a tool though :P
  18. Does teaming have a negative effect on rep? Even if it did it would have to be pretty severe since you get more kills teamed than solo.
Some joker in SC who seemed to think he would be far better off without a team. Then again, the same guy seemed to think xp was spread out in pve as well.
  19. Could always malefactor down if you dont give a monkeys about XP for a while.
  20. Yup. Even with just acid mortars debuffing the damage from multiple caltrops is really hurting them. I even got some kills on my lvl 21 traps corruptor in SC once everyone left.
  21. Playing as a healer (/thermal) or uber AV debuffer (/poison MM or /rad corruptor) would be the most obvious choices. Although I've had people get excited about all sorts of builds I play. "Yay! Fin is here (my dom) we wont die anymore!" and "Oh yes! /traps, want some blues to keep acid mortar going? it rocks" are some comments.
Your best option though is prolly to get good at building your own teams on a build you enjoy playing, and keeping your friends list up to date. After running good teams for a week or so, people remember you and send invites to THERE teams
  22. MarquandDance

    Nice job Devs

    [ QUOTE ]
Huh, that really true hammer? Didn't notice that on the few occasions i pvp'ed with my domi's, but if that's the case it's kinda awkward indeed

    [/ QUOTE ]

AFAIK domination has built faster from the secondary for a long time now, something which is only a problem if you didnt pick any assault powers. I also believe the team bonus to domination only applies to PVE, since domination builds very fast in PVP anwyay.

    My favorite part
  24. I was only there for a while. A lot more fun with huge numbers of people. Came back later when there was only 5 and it was a bit of a waste of time.

    PvP Night.

    [ QUOTE ]
Now, imo, that is just plain daft. Having no end is far worse than being caged. You cant run away, you cant use heals, you cant defend yourself at all.

Now when you consider how end drain has been shafted in pvp already, so the likes of Kin/elec defenders struggle to effectively drain end

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lots of powers are just daft. -acc powers? cant hit anything. -speed, -recharge? might as well be permaheld. I dont see why this should be different or why thermals shouldnt be the kings of crippling endurance (if they are, never even seen the power tbh).
