  1. The Alien Ant Farm version is better.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
Yesterday I get on an MA pick up team in atlas. It's me on my big pimpin', purpled out farming build fire/kin, a mid level toon, and another 50 fire/kin, whose set bonuses don't look so great, with the star.

We pick up a lowbie who then says "I'm not going to pay for a team" and quits. This seems odd. Next thing I know I get a trade request from the leader. Hmmmm. Accept it and then immediately close it when I see he's offering nothing. I ask him if he's charging for MA runs. He explains to me that it's 1 mil a run, but it's totally worth it because you'll more than make up for it in tickets blah blah blah.

I had so many responses fighting to get out that all I could muster was a "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" in team chat and then quit the team. Needless to say, he was promptly lambasted in broadcast in the hope that no one else would be suckered into this.

Has anyone else seen anything like this? Who would pay for an MA run? At least in PI you had to have the foresight to get and hold the right missions, offer a sk, etc. There was at least some value add, although I'd still never pay for it.

Charging for MA, though? Thats just ridiculous. Trying to charge a level 50 with a vastly better build for an MA run? Priceless.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've yet to see that happen and have only heard of such a55hattery in PI.

Your story is pretty funny though and it's a pity there is no emote for kicking someone in the jimmy then pointing and laughing 'cause he certainly deserved it.
  3. It's safe now children. You can all come out now.
  4. Wow... he (or she) did a great job.

I'm surprised the toon made it to level 3 without getting zapped.
  5. Log off and go work out, fatty.

You know, here in the States, we get a few holiday weekends to really kick back and relax. I had my coffee poured and was really looking forward to playing before having to run around and do the stereotypical BBQ thing today with family. And CoH/CoJ decide that an optimal time to do server maintenance is on the holiday??? Times like this make me glad that within the next 6 months there will be some healthy competition in this marketplace for MMORPG superhero fans. Then CoH/CoJ can do server maintenance all day for as much as I'll care...Happy Memorial Day NCSoft!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Amen to that!

Let's just hope those motherfrakers don't perform their server maintenance on holidays too!

Yeah they screwed the pooch on this guess they figured everybody bbqs today.

    I BBQ'd yesterday. Ribs-n-Chicken. Mmmmmmmm....

Ate so much meat I think I grew a tail.

Except that it comes down every Monday, no matter what, I believe. How many people are honestly gaming at 9:30am ET?

    Enough to be upset.

So after the big hammer descending on the MA with the last patch I haven't really used it. I just decided to go back and check it out on a whim. Not only is it empty, but half the arcs I choose do not even start. I'm guessing that they were invalidated when the patch hit and the players just decided it wasn't worth fixing them.

So great work on wrecking the entire thing. I doubt I'll bother with it any more, either. I get the feeling it's not worth it, much as the mission creators must have.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um... the AE building in Atlas on Freedom is still packed.

That said, I'm not happy with the changes myself but I can't blame the players - I blame the Devs. It was blatantly obvious in test that MA was ripe for abuse but they put it out anyways.
  10. It happens to everyone - unfortunately.

For every 5 star mafia member there's a 1 star goon.

Personally, I'd like to see the rating system go since it's really no indication (because of the abuse) of how good or bad a AE mission truly is.
  11. Down on a fraking holiday?! The asshattery of the knobs that run this game never cease to amaze me.
  12. Ever see an 8 man team of high level controllers?

    Total pwnville.
  13. I don't mind helping if they listen and learn.

We were all noobs once too.

Here's a question for you all to chew on- should newbies to CoH/CoV ever Powerlevel?

In my opinion, no. Once you've been playing for a while and understand how the game/archetypes/powersets work, then go ahead and PL.

But if you're new, I don't believe you should be PL'ing. You do yourself and your teammates no favours if you've quickly gotten to a high level and still don't know where the auction house is, how to find the train stations, and such, or how your archetype should function.

Instead, if you're new, take your time. Play through the game's content- what's the point if you skip it all just to hit 50?
Learn how the different archetypes function, what their strengths and weaknesses are. Observe the different powersets in action, note their pros and cons. You don't have to be a master number cruncher, but take the time to understand how enhancements work, how to get around, use the markets and NPC stores, and so on.

In short, learn the game before you even think about PL'ing.
You have friends who've been with the game awhile? Either have them make new characters to play with you, or have them SK you and do some of their missions. The beauty of the SK/Exemplar feature is that people of different levels can play together (minus level restricted zones and TFs).

Of course, with any rule there are a couple of exceptions I can think of:

One might be that the newbie has some supportive real-life friends, or a very supportive SG who help them gain levels quickly, but at the same time are also doing a lot of teaching about game mechanics, playstyles, etc. So the newbie does not end up with a high level character they are clueless about using.

Or if newbie needs to level up a character quickly for a specific purpose (they are in a PVP SG, or their SG needs a few more of a specific AT for things they like to do), and helps the newbie roll a character for that specific purpose and level up, again with lots of teaching along the way.

Aside from those sort of scenarios, newbies should not PL, IMHO.

The short answer is, "Yes. If they choose to."

It's their time and money - not mine.

    My two cents...

ZERO xp. ZERO rewards for AE missions. The only rewards (if any) should be badges.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So in other words, the devs should allow two years of development resources go the way of the Arena? That would be wasteful even if Positron was a rapper who just got a record deal (OMG lemme go buy an Escalade and a Benz!!).

Sorry, while sharing stories is the intended purpose, you can't expect the playerbase at large to go along with that, to the exclusion of all else. That's like expecting people to give to charity...when they don't have a job. The number of people who would exclusively "share stories" without a whit of character advancement or development is easily dwarfed by those who'd like to do a bit of both. Taking your advice would mean the devs spent all that time (and money, in the form of manhours, not to mention opportunity cost and continued support and maintenance) for what would be as popular as the aforementioned Arenas.

Though I'd love to see what kind of following an MMO that only gave "warm & fuzzies" for time spent would garner.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then people have to be fine with the farming and the lack of normal mission teams (even though mission teams can still easily be found).

I think a compromise can be made that allows AE to yield some sort of reward without opening the door to abuse.

Like I said in my post... just my two cents.

In response to the_alt_oholic.... it's in people's nature to follow the path of least resistance and to bend the rules. Everyone does it and those that say otherwise are lying about it. People were given an easy avenue to abuse the AE to PL toons and took advantage of it - myself included. I also knew that the gravy train wasn't going to last forever once the abuse became rampant so I have no issue with them shutting down the circus.

    The party can't last forever.

  18. I stopped reading them after all I kept seeing was, "Kill 'em all" or "Easy peasy XP" or "Ohai! I can has more farm?"

Seriously, though... if it has a good opening mission description and it looks as if the developer has taken the time to build something cool then I'll take the time to read it. Otherwise... meh.

Okay, without having to peruse every post as I am sure this has been brought up before, but it seems that when I have been soloing some AE mish'es, sometime I will get XP with no Tickets given, sometimes I will get just XP and sometimes no XP but only Tickets? So, is there something I am missing here or are some AE missions designed to only give certain awards and if so, how do I know what I'm getting before I select that particular AE mish?

I only say this as I did a few "Very Long" solo AE mish'es last night only to find the only thing I got was influence, no XP and no Tickets? I am not sure if this was a temporary fix by the dev's because of past issues of probable leveling abuse and they "nerfed' certain mish'es to only allow certain awards? Any clarification on this would be very helpful. Thanks!

    My two cents...

ZERO xp. ZERO rewards for AE missions. The only rewards (if any) should be badges.

If this is truly about "sharing" stories then make it about that. Sharing and beating a difficult custom mission should be it's own reward.

The devs screwed the pooch big time. All the time it was in beta and no one saw the abuse coming? I don't fault the players that abused it one bit. It's like blaming a child for playing with fire when the parents leave matches on the table and the kid unsupervised.
  20. It worked! Had to deal with some lag but it's better than crashing.

    Thanks again.

I tried my idea of setting the affinity and it worked. I noticed you have a AMD Dual Core as well. I was able to play a full 4 hour session without any crashing. Also, I changed my monitor frequency to 60Hz instead of 75.

How it works... After you load into the game via CoHUpdater.exe wait until you get to the login screen. Press Cntrl+Alt+Delete and open up Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab. Sort the tabs by name and find the processes that have you're personal computer username associated with them. Right-click on the process for City of Heroes (i.e. CityofHeroes.exe) and choose "Set Affinity." Take the checkmark away from "CPU 1" and click OK.

So far, this has worked for me, but I have to do it everytime I play the game.

Another post about this issue mentioned that many people have been posting with semi-outdated RealTek Audio drivers. I noticed you have the same driver. Here's a link to that post: https://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat...;gonew=1#UNREAD

    I hope this helps!
