Quote:So, basically, if someone does not level their character the way you think it should be leveled until, in your eyes they learn to play, they are doing it wrong....I never like farming however i didn't mind the PI Farms until they got replace with AE and thats when i got pretty upset about the whole thing.Mosty i am sad to see Noobs go straight to 50 with out learning how to play there Alts.
I don't mind Farming as long a Noob don't lvl up that way,My Advice for any Nooblets who read this Thread is.The right way to lvl to 50 for a Noob is to team up and lvl up the old fashion way First, before you start pling your other toons so you can learn the basic game play.
There are ways to help you out, here is a list of Stuff to help my little Noob Heroes in training...
This is EXACTLY the kind of elitist BS that will drive people from wanting to hang around and play the game.
I can tell from the tone of your post that you think you are doing them a favor by bestowing your great wisdom upon them. You are not. -
Quote:I think this sums up my view on the matter, thanks Baalat!
I find long-time players who cling to rigid play styles far, far more annoying than new players who simply don't understand how things work out of sheer inexperience. People lording their vet badges or the fact they were in the CoH beta as some kind of symbol of their deeper understanding of or special entitlement to the game irritate me far, far more than a dozen blind invites to AE farms ever could. -
-
I have both an Ill/Rad and an Ill/Storm at 50. The Ill/Rad was actually my first 50.
For me, Illusion and Storm paired together is literally the most fun character I have played. Always something to do. WAY more FUN than the Ill/Rad combo. As someone posted, Ill/Rad gets really repetitive.
But, as always, play what's fun for you! -

Quote:I see plenty of people post this idea....churning out new players who leave after a few weeks because they think that's all there is to the game.
Where is the HARD evidence, hmm?
Where are the subscription numbers to back up this claim? Not your personal anecdotal evidence, the real numbers.
All NCNC has said is that subscriber numbers are up. That's it.
The elite 'play the game my way' folks are really never going to just shut up, I know, but I cannot help but reply to it now and again. -
Random as an option would ROCK for both animations and colors in my book.

If you are on a team and things are not working the way you want them to, you need to either adjust your playstyle or find a new team. Insisting that people change the way they play so that you can do things your way isn't going to work.
You're way isn't necessarily the most efficient. Even if it was, many people just don't care about efficiency beyond a certain point.
Display some adaptability, or make your own teams where you can be The Boss. Some people like that kind of thing, I guess.

I need to repost this in all of the AE player hate threads. -

I suggest you look up the definition of what "sociopath" means. It is not tantamount to saying "serial killer" or "Tony Soprano". These are examples of sociopaths, but not the definitions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well aware of the actual definition.
Walking away from something that I find boring or a waste of my time without saying anything? Hardly a sociapathic tendency in my opinion. *shrug*
[ QUOTE ]
This certainly has nothing to do with my "outlook on life". Unless that "outlook on life" is that basic courtesy should be extended to other people. If you consider that "interesting" then that says something about you.
[/ QUOTE ]
I find what people believe to be fascinating, I always have, call it amateur anthropology if you will.
If you really think that because someone does not follow what you, or even most people, think of as rules of politeness makes them a sociopath, I find that fascinating. I realize in this case you said tenancies.
We are not talking about going out of our way here to piss people off in a team. No direct grief, no cursing and no criticizing. We are talking about nothing more than not caring enough about some random group of strangers to not type anything when we are tired, bored or just done playing with them.
Why anyone thinks that there is some obligation to these random strangers in this setting, is fascinating to me.
This is a topic that has always grabbed my attention when it come up on game forums. One of the most interesting aspects is the lack of ability to discuss these things rationally, which is the funniest thing to me about Internet message boards in the first place.

... It's even exhibiting sociopathic traits to say "I'm not having fun, so I'm going to quit without taking 3 seconds to clarify my intentions, because I don't care about the consequences of my actions on you, I'm just here to have my fun."
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow...just wow.
I have been called a lot of things, but never compared to a sociopath. Very interesting outlook you have on life. -

I foresee a lonely old age for you. No kidding, not being sarcastic. This verges on pathological, and I hope for your sake you don't carry it over into real life. If you do, it IS pathological.

*dismisses negative sentiment*
I feel sorry for you, and that is the honest truth. But, being sorry for you does not mean we're going to have a war over your behavior; that behavior - and its consequences - belongs solely to you.

Thank B_I.
I get almost as many laughs from your posts here as I do out of a 30 minute sitcom and I don't have to sit through the commercials! -

I was playing nice earlier. Here's the deal. I don't like teaming. So when I do it is for a specific reason. If I feel the team will not help me accomplish whatever goal I'm going for, then I will quit. I won't give notice or anything. I'll just quit the team. I personally don't care if it is a PuG radio team or a task force. If I don't think the team directly benefits me in the way I want, then I'll just leave.
Do you know why I will do it that way?
Simple, because I see teams as nothing more than fillers to use as I see fit. When they are no longer useful, I leave. That simple. If the leader has a problem and demands an answer, I'll let him/her know. But I won't be nice about it. I will be extremely blunt and critical.
But Munki, why be so mean? Simple, because I play this game so I can have fun. As long as I'm not breaking any rules, I don't give a crap about anybody else. If somebody's day is worse off because they ran across me, I don't care. I see all of yall as nothing more than fillers on the way to accomplish my goals.
edit: The people that feel they deserve some sort of explanation are self obsessed losers. That simple.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks MunkiLord, I could not have said it better myself!
I don't play this game to meet new people, make friends or find a new lover. I play to vent frustration and punch/kick/zap pixels until they dead.
Sometimes I jump on PUGs to do that. I sometimes say something when I come and go. Sometimes I don't. I do what suits my mood.
I agree with Celestial_Fury:
[ QUOTE ]
At least this guy is honest with you. I think i prefer deal with such types than the lying ones that are way too polite but end doing exactly the same pretending to be "needed" elsewhere.
[/ QUOTE ]
The politeness police can whine all they like, I play the way I like to play, just like they do. I follow my rules, they follow theirs.
The difference is that I am not trying to force others to do anything. I accept them for who they are. The busy-body's (busy-bodies?) of the world just cannot do that, it's not their nature. -
[ QUOTE ]
...ah, you're still basing it on misconstruing what others have said in spite of being corrected numerous times. Gotcha. Goodbye, troll. *click*
[/ QUOTE ]
You are a funny one.
There are many valid reasons used to promote the moving of the AE out of the starter zones as well and I think this is what you are referring to with your 'zinger'.
There are also some people that want it moved so that others will play the game the in the 'right' way.
There is no misconstruing here, there are simply multiple driving forces behind wanting changes.
It's obvious that your only goal here is 'zing' and to 'be right', so it is pointless for me to address your comments. -
[ QUOTE ]
Which is a flawed argument if that's your primary objection.
[/ QUOTE ]
Flawed how exactly? Opening up the can of worms to alter the game to make some players play the game the way others want IS a slippery slope.
[ QUOTE ]
Not at all. They can either learn to be careful navigating higher level zones or spend an hour leveling up before going there. A restriction would be something making it -impossible- to access it before the requirements are met.
[/ QUOTE ]
For very new players, what you describe here IS more restrictive than the ease at which the AE can be accessed now.
While I can agree that that having to navigate an area like we used to have to in the Hollows is far from an impossible task, both of theses points are clearly semantic in nature and very subjective. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
What I will continue to fight is restricting ANYTHING including the moving of the AE buildings.
[/ QUOTE ]
Question for you: why?
[/ QUOTE ]
Mainly, the 'slippery slope'.
Also, depending upon where you put it, even in King's, that would also have the chance to prevent a brand new player from getting there. That, to me, is a restriction.
[ QUOTE ]
Alienating them in order to get high turnover numbers may not be the best thing in the world to do.
[/ QUOTE ]
As to this, IMO, anyone getting 'alienated' over this is not someone I want to play with anyway. As many like to forget, the forum population is a fraction of the games real population anyway. Only here have I seen the hate, but then again, I do not ever log into Freedom or Virtue.
I have left bad teams for many years now. If the team is not what I want, the quite button is one click away. I use the same philosophy I use at the blackjack tables in Vegas. If someone is playing badly enough to make the rest of the table lose money, I simply pick up my chips and move to another table.
I can certainly agree that some players will always tick off other players. That's called human interaction. All you have to do is walk away. It's even easier online than in real life.
I have a friend right now that if he got on a PUG with anyone other than our group of RL friends he would get crucified. Been playing about a year, does not know jack about the game, just sits down to get on voice chat and hang out with us once in a while. Because of playing with us, he has a 50. Bad players predate AE by as long as there have been games.
As for the name-calling, just wanted to get that out preemptively, Aett_Thorn, you are not at all on that list.Discourse with you is a pleasure.
-
[ QUOTE ]
*Claps* Way to misconstrue what's being said, trollboy. The problem isn't so much people who do nothing but AE. The problem is people who use AE to PL to 50, then try to join teams outside of AE and are completely clueless about how the game works.
[/ QUOTE ]
Like understanding that no one forces you to play with someone you don't want to play with? Don't like the players abilities? The quit button is right there. -
There are those who are arguing to give the players more and better information.
Nothing wrong with that. I agree and said so.
What I will continue to fight is restricting ANYTHING including the moving of the AE buildings.
Everything desired here could be easily put into a forced opening pop-up upon a new character entering the game simply giving a better initial contact and introduction to the game.
The only rose-colored glasses I am wearing, per the references to seeing what I want to see, is that humans have logical, rational thoughts and the capability to figure things out for themselves.
Promoting a better set of initial information and guidance is a great idea. More information is always better.
I see the whole picture. I understand the fears of those players that like the game have about wanting it to prosper, I want the game to prosper.
I do not agree that the people that would normally become long term players will not do so because of the AE, even in it's current configuration, nor do I think drastic measures need to be taken. Those people will discover 'the rest' of the game regardless.
And even if a person does not ever see anything other than the inside of the AE building and Miss Lberty, even if a player plays for a shorter time than others, high turn over or not, there is nothing wrong with that. Other games do quite well with high turn over.
For years, I have seen posters here lament for more new players. Lately I see many posts lamenting that fact we have new ones that don't play the way the veterans want them to play, thus my initial post in this thread.
Call me whatever names you like. Do your best to belittle me. You will not get me to stop pointing out the fact that different does not equal wrong. -
[ QUOTE ]
I will add this though, prior to AE there were many complaints from longtime old school gamers about players who were skipping the arcs and instead running radio missions over and over. This is just a more extreme version of that same thing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly.
Look guys, those of you that are trying to get the new players to embrace the 'entire game' are great.
The ones that want to put restrictions on the AE are the ones I am shooting rubber bands at to make them think about their position.
The whole idea that by running only AE missions in Atlas is, in any way, wrong, is absurd.
Is it missing out on the true potential of the game? Certainly.
That does not make it wrong or broken.
Those of you talking about people being 'forced' in to the AE building make me laugh. You sound like the servers are a school yard full of children who are scared to be left out of all the fun because the cool kids are all doing it.
Those that just have to be in the 'right' crowd will always do what looks like the path of least resistance. If they are having fun doing that, where is the problem?
And if later in their playtime they get teamed up with you, YOU have the CHOICE of playing with them or not.
Restricting players because of YOUR hang-ups is what's wrong, not the fact that they might play the game differently. -
[ QUOTE ]
The problem, MajorPrankster, is not people who spend all their time in AE because they choose to. The problem is those who do because they do not know all their options. If AE is in Steel Canyon, newcomers to the game will encounter many aspects of the game before running into AE. After they do, they can certainly spend all their time from that point on in the AE. But it will be an informed decision, rather than an uninformed one. That is the key difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
All you did there was nicely say "I want these players to look at the other parts of the game."
The meaning is the same, "play the game the way I do."
Someone that chooses to remain un-informed of the games other areas and potential will do so with or without the AE. I have a friend that has for years now.
Some folks view the game in a completely different light than those of us that play heavily. They do not care, at all, about optimization, TF/SF perfection, seeing all the zones, getting badges or joining an SG. They just want to mash buttons, watch things blow up and giggle.
And that is OK.
If someone wants to learn all there is to learn about the game or not, they will, with or without the existence of the AE.
What I see in this thread and so many others, from the rants about farming, PLing and now the AE, are people determined to control others. Nothing more.
Some of the players of this game just cannot stand that there are others players that play differently than they do.
It's not about making any sort of informed decision. It's simply a matter of what they want out of the game. -
<QR>
So the elitists run rampant again.
Far be it for others to play your precious little game in a manner different than what you perceive to be the right way.
The 'wonderful community' of this game that has blown it's own trumpet for years about how friendly they are to new players seems to have turned into something completely different.
So what if someone fills their account with 50's that never leave Atlas. SO WHAT. If they enjoy that, that is their fun time.
The lack of acceptance for new players, simply based upon how they have chosen to play the game, is appalling to me.
But, by all means, carry on with your gamer-geek rage. You have every right to dislike them and post here about it.
And it's a very interesting train wreck to watch. A great example of cognitive dissonance actually. Very educational. -
[ QUOTE ]
Your time will come and then you'll be up in arms when the servers go down during -your- primetime.
[/ QUOTE ]
No I won't, because I am a rational, thinking human being with a number of varied interests, so I will just go do something else.
Sure, I am a little bummed sometimes when I want to play CoH and I cannot, but things happen. The planet is not a perfect place, nor are the people that live on it.
I will not, however, go running about in circles yelling about someone not doing their jobs the way I think they should be done.
I will not be coming onto the public forum and crying about it.
And as far as the brain dead comment goes, HAH. If you had ANY clue as to what I do for a living and tried to apply that to me, you would see just how full of hyperbole you really are. -
You might want to consult an exterminator about that bug up there.
Just sayin'. -
OP:
What you call morals and values appear to be nothing more than a bigoted, ultra conservative, narrow minded and shallow view on life. And hateful to boot.
Take your 'morals and values', your money and your kids that will certainly grow up warped with you as a parent and go play someplace that we don't have to listen to you.
Thanks.
