  2. With City of Heroes, these forums and forumites are a huge cut above the rest. There are some incredible people, quality players, and thoughtful devs and community relations folks here, all for us to communicate with.

The bashing and gouging usually seem on 'other' gaming forums doesn't exist here to any of that degree. Granted, there will be heated discusssions, 'rage quit' posts, etc, but those are in the true low-percentage minority vice the helpfulness you will get here (high -precentage majority).
  3. It's truly not that bad, but amid some great RP characters there, there's also a few late-night Erotic Roleplayers (ERP) and (not sure what the term is) text/tell-challenging wherin they expect you to engage them in texted battles usually resulting in nothing short of them stating they have killed you with a thermonuclear weapon as you stand there, while all others in the Pocket D are unaffected (don't laugh; this actually happened to me a year ago).

My level of belief in quality RP character interface in the D went out the window shortly thereafter.

As I've rolled through there a few times (like, for doing V-Day mishes of late), some of the local chats up in the redside and blueside bar area were enough to make this die-hard veteran "swear-like-a-sailor" submariner blush. Most of those conversations didn't have a bloody thing to do with roleplaying, just verbal abuse.

If that, however, is something you desire, all the more power to you, however, since your OP, to me, implied you are just starting out some character RP here on CoH, this may not be the first place to jump into and garner a proper 'first impression' of Virtue's RP community.
  4. and beware of the Pocket D...

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

    I have said too much...

  5. 116 characters across all servers.

    Each has:
    • a unique, detailed character description
    • been fully updated for Inherent Fitness
    • all of their veteran reward powers applied for use up to the 48 month badge rewards
    • an SG or VG they belong to, with the exception of my Praetorians, which each of those have a destination SG/VG to go to once they cross over
    • their enhancements fully established for their particular levels (1-12 = TOs, level 12-22 = DOs, level 22-42/47 = SOs, level 42/47+ = IOs/IO sets), with my 4 50s 2nd tier Alpha'd out and each very close to their new "+1" level
All of that, including costume udpates and especially all the in-game teaming, make this fun for me. May not be fun for others; it's fun for me!

Note: I've taken dozens of superheroes and villains I made as a kid and have made them characters in this game, all of which I enjoy running in CoH. With this, my childhood is revisited and I don't have to have to pay for a $100,000 Ferrari mid-life crisis to get me through it (just the monthly CoH fees...and the occasional booster packs)!
  6. For the Origins pack, when Avatea and TheOcho were doing giveaways for them, I was lucky enough to receive one.

As much as I like the idea of showing up for a chance to earn a free pack, I'm going to sit this one out and, as mentioned by others, 'vote with my wallet'. Paragon Studios is providing a lot of good, requested items in this pack; I'll be more than happy to toss some of my hard earned cash for a well done pack, in this regard.

I STILL won't buy the Party Pack though.
  7. The Barracuda SF should still mention, somewhere in the START UP of the mish, in ORANGE or RED or something in the NPC/contact's text, that an MM/Defender would be a 'benefit' to your team makeup.

Not mentioning this in the text or SF description is not helpful.

This knoweldge is constituted as what we call in business/education as, 'Tribal Knowlege':
Tribal knowledge is any unwritten information that is known within a "tribe" but often unknown outside of it. A "tribe" may be a group or subgroup of people that share a common knowledge.
The subgroup, in this case, consists of those that discovered the Black Scorpion Temp Power for MMs/Defenders while playing the SF and those who discovered it via in-game tells, websites, or forums. Not everyone knows of this 'benefit', and since it is not mentioned in the opening text of the SF, it can easily be constituted as tribal knoweldge.

This info needs to be entered in the opening text before a team is formed to prevent new players/team leaders, from having to experience what can transform into a painful 3-hour Reichsmann beat-down or actual SF failure.

    To the other comments, thanks!

I truly enjoy teaming. Quality charcters, great personalities, a desire to enjoy whatever the game has to offer, and a preference to work/help each other.

In my line of work, it's mach 10, in-your-face, hair on fire, crisis management, go-go-go, with it's relative stress meter of 11 on a 10 scale; to spend time with folks that just 'want to play' (and enjoy the time and fun therein), it is a level of refreshing that I don't get many opportunities to partake in. I have enough stress getting 2 kids through college and working 3 projects in this job, let alone stress out while playing a game.

Liberty, I have found thee once again!
  9. A couple of years ago, I'd made a patriotic SG on Liberty, utilized by several fun players, all who had a great run for about several months until, as things go, they all left for other games, shifted servers, health issues, or the departing college student now sacked with tuition payments and the need for a steady job. Anyway, our SG went into limbo, and over the year or so, I've travailed off to different servers.

I returned last night to Liberty only to enjoy a fantastic teaming experience with some incredible players.

Everyone on the teams was helpful, kind, generous, all wanting to help with badges, unlockable items, XP, etc. Not once did they mash my characters' build, mention I'm 'not optimal' for their team, decry my slower (age sucks) responses, nor did they go into a dirty word contest to see who could spout the most lewdness in a single tell. It was a team of fun, friendly and memorable people and characters.

Since I'm not sure the individuals wish to be mentioned here in the forums, I'll instead mention my two characters, "Yankee Minuteman" and "Iron Works" from yesterday as having the best teaming experience in a long time.

In addition, the thoughtful and inspiring Atlas CC done in honor of Goob on Sunday was another reminder of that which I missed on Liberty - the drop-of-a-hat CCs under the Atlas Statue (which, by the way, yesterday's CC was well done with good choices for the winners!) and the heart and thoughtfulness that came with them.

To those that "Yankee Minuteman" and "Iron Works" teamed with yesterday....thank you. You've re-energized that which I missed on this server, and as a result, I'm back to playing on the Liberty server.

Just wanted to put to text that which I still feel happy about this morning!
  10. Hey! Another community relations person to add to our heroic/villainous red-named ranks!

Good to have a new CM, and from what EMPulse just said, one with experience.

You have jumped into a great community, one with incredible gaming skills, hardcore beta testers, extremely generous hearts, smart-as-a-whip rhetoric writers, fanatical forumites and most importantly - dedicated heroes and villains all!

You have now crossed the rubicon, Andy.

May the gods have mercy on your soul.

    OH..and welcome aboard!

And the problem with that door has to do with logout logic. If you happen to be standing at or near the Natural store NPC at the back and decide to log out, on login the game will do what it always does: if you are near a door when you logged out, it will instead of logging you back in at that spot it will perform an animation that has you exiting the nearest door. The problem is that in this specific case, that will place you coming out of that back door and entering the store behind the counter. The counter, as Patteroast mentions, has an invisible force field around it. A new player that does this, which isn't a completely unlikely thing to do, will find themselves stuck in a box they cannot get out of without something like a zone teleporter (Ouro, Pocket D, mission teleporter, market porter, etc). Or, there are supposedly tricks you can use to jump out of it, like Patteroast mentions, but they do not seem to consistently work for me. And because I sell at that store a lot, I still find myself occasionally slipping up and logging out at that spot and then having to port out of it the next time I log in.
Use the /stuck command; that's what I use. It shunts me onto the otherside of the barrier each time.
  12. The link to Avatea's list is here:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=251519

This last week's WST was LRSF/STF; after Tuesday, the Kahn/Baraccuda ones for Reichsmann are the WST for the week.
  13. This is one of my favorite shots of Master Arachnoknight from my VG, Knights of Arachnos.

And one of our best groupshots of the Knights of Arachnos.

  14. If you're red side on Freedom, maybe you won't want to spend the $$ on server transfers; we have the following VGs with a large coalition, huge and fully loaded bases, hundreds in the VG ranks, and events every weekend (Flashback Fridays, *new* WST Saturdays, SF Sundays) and teaming during the weekday evenings:

    Knights of Arachnos

    Champions of Arachnos

    Legion of Arachnos
Although they have "Arachnos" in the name, any and all ATs/villains/rogues are welcome! We don't kick folks from the VGs unless they're a 3-strikes-yer-out discipline case or haven't logged in for over 1 year.

If interested or need more info, send me a PM or look me up online via global @Major Deej.

    Good luck with your search!
  15. Well, seeing as how we're all dealing with the "neverending winter" out here in New England (as well as over 70% of the country), it's only fitting to have the slopes openend up again...so we can see more snow...

Serioiusly though, thanks, Avatea! I still have many Candy Canes that need turning in.
  16. Ahhhh! My weak Search Fu (with a little help) has come back! Found the info; thanks.

I'm with Lady Arete here; where did this info come from? What source post/comment/webpage has this posted with Avatea stating this?

Not being snarky, just not finding the source info everyone seems to be bandwagoning with..

    EDIT: Nevermind; just found it...

  19. I'll give it a try!

    One o'Clock Time Jump
    Arc # 359532
    @Major Deej

Modern day mixed with WWII drama! Time Travel! End of the World! Nazis! Enjoy!
  20. Marketing gimmikery and bankrupt storytelling. That's what that issue amounted to.

A major character such as the Human Torch cannot and should not have been killed off like this. Obviously they are looking to reboot the series and team; in what way, I don't know, but it's a disservice to the character and the team title.
  21. I've been holding off any additional comment until I got through watching up through the Kang storyline, and all I have to say about the show is that it is..

    OUTSTANDING!
    MORE! MORE! MORE!

Fantatic storyline; the Kang story arc was indeed quite epic with the battlescenes; good to see Cap rolling back into a battlefield commander role, and happiest part was to see Iron Man perplexed and aggravated that there was tech out there he couldn't understand, YET, he persevered through it; he didn't quit trying to figure it out. Most profound moment was when Cap told TChalla to head back to Wakanda; his people needed their king (even though Tony almost threw a hissy fit); well done interaction on that scene.

Overall, I love the attention to the characteristics of the heroes; their attitudes, strengths and weaknesses. Superbly written, and exceptional story telling!

Nice cameos of Human Torch and Mr. Fantastic at end.

THIS is what I'd hope they'd show the Avengers to be.

Hawkeye's my favorite in this series, but Cap is a close 2nd.
  22. I am in charge of editing over 30 active bases. Most of them, I have redone at least 10 times; a few larger ones, at least three dozen times. All this relates to many hundreds of base updates and rebuilds, equating to a severe chunk of time. Each time I do an update/rebuild/new base, I put my heart and soul into the theme, design, functionality and aesthetics to make the base the best for what my SG/VG wants it to be.

As such, I have, as many of us have, faced enormous pains, and many hundreds of hours in design of these bases, only to have them underused and underutilized.

With that said, I, personally, am MORE than happy to start from scratch with a base building system that works and has GREATER (note: NOT lesser):
    • functionality (Base Arena/Danger Room; base auction house access, tailor, Praetorian Zone Teleporter access, etc)
    • themed styles for walls, floors, aesthetic items, etc other than tech, sewer, and arcane.
    • ease of moving and placing things on the x, y and z axis.
    • vehicles (arachnos flyer and longbow chaser are nice; want - cars, skyraider craft, helicopters, AIRPLANES, those new Apache attack helicopters (I saw those in the upcoming TF images), etc.)
    • Storage space in Salvage Storage bins (30 is not enough)
    • base items (i.e., Praetorian computers, lab equipment, etc.)
If it's possible to save up the old bases for those that still want them, I'd expect that to be the RIGHT thing to do. Not sure if the game can handle new AND old base accesibility though...

    regardless...

/signed and agree. Start from scratch. Let's get it right and roll with it.
  23. ...you are excited to buy the soundtrack for Batman: Under the Red Hood for the extremely cool background music you play while running your character, over buying the latest awesome rock music MP3s from Amazon.com (sorry, Aerosmith...).
  24. I'm looking for anyone who might still be a member/leader/recuiter for or know what has happened to "The Protectors" SG.

I know there is a seperate post for SGs/VGs for recruiting, but it doesn't seem to get looked at that much, and the last post I saw for that SG was back in 2006. The listed contacts haven't posted in years, and the website links are no longer active. Not sure if they're even operational, but am looking to chat/join with them.

If anyone knows anybody still part of "The Protectors" SG on this server, have them send me a tell to @Major Deej.

    Thanks all!
