Ah! That's true! Thanks for reminding me!
I wish there were a similar contact but in dwarf form. I remember seeing the dwarf form when issue 3 came out and I thought that it was pretty cool.
I also remember reaching level 20 and saving a Kheldian dwarf hero from a swarm of Tsoo. I remember just being stunned. Sure I'd seen the squid form a lot before, but no one ever played as just a dwarf. It was pretty neat.

^^ soooo, he takes a screenies and photoshops it. Yup, that's pretty much how I thought the process went.

Yup, but it's still pretty cool. Especially if you've got a client specifically looking for that kind of look. I mean, it's not much different than what's done here to show off potential costume designs, but using this person's technique, it'd be possible to take a player's in-game avatar and replace their Nemesis Staff with some other cool item of power. I know it might not seem like much but sometimes that's all some people really want. -
Not to start trouble, but a friend of mine pointed me to this gallery. What this artist does is take screenshots of in-game images and photoshops them to create dynamic new images.
Does anyone do something like this for CO*? Looks like a really neat way to keep characters looking true to their in-game roots. -
Ah, this is a great start. Thanks, you guys!
Now, does anyone have a really good set of pictures of the dwarf and squid forms? I tried to go in-game to ask for people to pose but no one responded. Does anyone have some images lying around? -

4. Custom factions?
[/ QUOTE ]
4, no custom factions I'm afraid. Seems that some powers and their animations are unique to a particular faction. The Fir Bolg were cited as an example. Seems their power animations had to be done specifically to look good with their elongated skeletons. Thus trying to paste their powers onto a bunch of 5 year olds would look unacceptably odd.

So I can only rename enemies, I cannot give Tsoo Nemesis guns?
(Apologize for the redundancy, but I'm just in a slight state of shock. But on the other hand, perhaps I might be able to circumvent these issues...)
[/ QUOTE ]As I understand it that is correct. However I don't see why we couldn't use weapon customization in the critter creator for factions that normally use weapons like the council.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm kinda curious about this one. I was wondering if I'd be able to add Freakshow weapons an accessories to Vahzilok zombies to show that the Vahz are improving their product line. I know that there's a Freakshow costume set but I'm not sure if that's just a complete model swap (like the Halloween temp costumes) or actual costume pieces.
Another thing I'm curious about is whether we can apply costume-creator costumes to minions like the Skulls or the Hellions. They'd have the same behaviors as the current gangs, but they'd have a different look.
Thanks for this guide! I'm really looking forward to helping to expand the player experience in CO*!

Does anyone have decent full-body screenshots of their Kheldian characters?
I'm interested in trying something out in Photoshop to demonstrate an idea I suggested over here, but I haven't broken the Lvl50 barrier to make my own Kheldians yet. I'm looking for good, detailed standing poses of the squid and dwarf forms; if you've got a decent image of your human form, that'd be great too and might help my suggestion a bit.
Thanks in advance! -

I really hope it's not anything to do with the 5th Column. Enough of them already. Let's get some super hero stuff in the mix.

I agree! Unless this update features giant mutant Nazi experiments, new tech and weird science gadgets, human-sized mutant Nazi experiments, strange occult connections, evil Nazi super-villains, or tiny-sized mutant Nazi experiments, then I don't want to play.
Oh yeah. And Hitler's brain in a jar controlling a giant killer robot. That better be in it too. And you won't fool me if you use the Clockwork King instead of Hitler. Not unless it comes with a new non-rusty texture map 'cause that's the sort of sneaky thing that WOW would do.

What was I saying? My train of thought derailed... -
Ah, see, I'm learning bit by bit. Thank you all.
What I want to try and do is to create a custom NPC villain, based on one of the Vahzilok Slab01-04 models but with a Freakshow Juicer backpack attached to it.
I wanted to see if I could do a little I-14 MA experimenting. I wanted to make a custom villain set based on existing models, but I'm not sure if I can do it. The idea I have is that a Vahz scientist got ahold of some papers and was trying to create a set of electrically-powered Vahz, kind of like the Viktor character from the "Darkstalkers" video game series.
I'll continue to experiment, but if someone knows what to do I'd sure appreciate any input. -
Wow! Thanks for the replies.
Would either of these solutions work with in-game villains like the Vahzilok or Freakshow? Or just with hero player characters? -
I was wondering whether there are any online demo files with the camera and scene preset so that I could edit them to insert characters. I want to be able to have a full-body shot and then a possible medium shot to allow for a closer view.
I want to try my hand at creating some custom NPC characters by starting with a base and then applying accessories to see what might be currently possible before the release of the Mission Architect. I then hope to share what I create to see what people think and maybe start people thinking about characters to share for MA missions.
I think I can edit the code to get the looks I want but I'd just like a starter file or two that doesn't include scenery/NPCs/props/etc. that I don't want.
Thanks in advance. -
That's what I was going to ask.
I await the links to the Youtube recordings! -

Any chance you'll ask the Devs if Issue 14 might make making movies easier? Based on some of the initial reports on the Mission Architect, I thought it might but perhaps you can ask more pointed and relevant questions than I could. -
Wow, that's really exciting! I wish I could go...
I always seem to learn better from a presentation like this so I'm looking forward to seeing anything that might be posted from this. -
There's a huge cemetery in Dark Astoria that's heavy on atmosphere and zombies. They even pop out of the ground as you land! Made me jump back up in the air late one night. Maybe what you'd be looking for might be there?

Ah, so you seem to be thinking in terms of a 3D program's control of cameras. The Top, Side and Front cameras would be interesting if you could be sure that their origin points weren't from the edges of whatever map the character was on otherwise all the walls and scenery would get in the way. Perhaps if the cameras were defaulted as a few feet from the player character...
This sounds almost like it'd have to be a utility that would load the demofile but would also add the extra cameras for greater control. Hopefully it would also add a Pause feature to pause the demo, as well as Reverse and Forward features to move back and forth thru the demo timeline.
Of course, I could be talking about stuff beyond the scope of what you were thinking. I was just spitballing ideas. I'll be quiet now. -
I started poking around at demos just recently, so I have a wishlist of sorts regarding creating demos:
1) I wish I could get better camera control.
2) I wish I could load up CO* characters in a program like this that would let me do closeups and such using emotes within the game.
3) I wish I could take a scene, place characters within it and then move the camera around to record emotes so I could add dialogue later.
Truly, my issue is my own really, because I'm a longtime Poser user and I really just want Poser for CO*.Then I want Poser for CO* to accept files from other games so I can have stories where my characters fight the giant robots from Exteel or
pick up some interesting pets/sidekicks with everyone singing "Kumbaya" together, but that's real "pie in the sky".
But you seem to have something in mind. Could you offer any more details? -
I have a question: even if I don't win and have access to the armor for my player characters, can I access it via demoedit for a future movie or something?
-
Thanks, Zloth. Looks like I have some research to do. I used to do a bit of coding before so that's helping me to understand some of what I'm seeing in the demo file code. I had some fun yesterday by extracting different characters from a large demo I'd made. Now that I've got some action figure, I want to make them do something!
One idea I'd been considering (which is part of the thinking behind my OP) was to borrow certain elements from other NCSoft games to create an alternate world for CO* characters to interact with. Like the robots from Exteel or the rat creatures from Dungeon Runners (which I thought would've made an excellent encounter surprise in the Sewers!). However, after playing a bit with the CO* demos, now I'm getting other ideas from the toys in the CO* sandbox. Like new ideas for pets and for mission ideas for I13.
There really are a lot of great things to play with here!
-
Yeah, but I like that. It gets so I don't want to go anywhere else because it feels like no one replies for months. I go to Adobe's site with a Flash question and I'm lucky to get a reply. I go here and I can usually get a reply on the same day. Sometimes even more than one reply!
-
I just wanted to see if it was an across-the company feature. I downloaded "Exteel" just to see and it doesn't appear to be part of their set.
I've just started playing with Demo Record... can anyone tell me if it's possible to pause a demo and change the camera angle to get a better angle, then play again to record? Sometimes the best angle for a shot is not always from behind the player character. -
Leandro, is it safe to ask about what you're working on there? I saw your site and (maybe it's because I haven't had any lunch yet) I was a bit stunned. Would this project of yours accept emotes from the game? Would it also accept player characters I've made up or which appear in a demo file?
-
Is demo recording a feature that's included with other NCSoft games? Is it an across-the-board thing or is it only a COH/V kind of thing?
Also, would anyone know if the demo edit utilities work on those other demo files?
Thanks! -
A quick note as my daughter pulls me away from my computer...
Raighn Cloud, as a thank you for the help in getting my long-neglected Archery/Devices Blaster to a respectable adventuring level of 14 or so.
Feel free to look around. I plan on adding more images soon. -
Thanks, DR.
'nother question: Can I use demos to place more than one of my own alt characters into the same scene? I saw from the ParagonWiki entry that I can substitute different in-game characters like Statesman and Ghost Widow into my demo, but I didn't see how I might substitute one of my alts. Any ideas?
With a City of Heroes Model Viewer, I guess I could pose my characters in separate sessions then Photoshop them together. I dunno... do you think by discussing it, someone might go about making something like this? I think it'd be such a cool tool
to use!
