NCSoft Demo Edit question

Is demo recording a feature that's included with other NCSoft games? Is it an across-the-board thing or is it only a COH/V kind of thing?

Also, would anyone know if the demo edit utilities work on those other demo files?

Thanks!

The demoedit tool was developed by Cryptic when they made the game... So I would say, no... It's POSSIBLE that STO will have demoedit incorporated into it, since it is also developed by Cryptic, but that is up to them.

NCSoft doesn't develop, it publishes. Now, it's possible - or even probable - that other games have some form of demoedit available to them, but it's highly unlikely that they are in any way cross-compatible, if that's what you are asking.

demo editing was made by cryptic, so games like tabula rasa probably wont have it. I have not, however, heard anything about it for champions online, it is possible they will have a similar sytem

Minor clarification: CoX was developed by Cryptic and published by NCSoft. However, Cryptic sold the development function to NCSoft, and NCSoft hired almost all of the CoX developers from Cryptic, forming NCNC. So, actually, NCSoft *does* develop *now*.

So unless Jack was the driving force behind the demoedit functionality (which I doubt), I don't see it continuing in other Cryptic games. YMMV...

I just wanted to see if it was an across-the company feature. I downloaded "Exteel" just to see and it doesn't appear to be part of their set.

I've just started playing with Demo Record... can anyone tell me if it's possible to pause a demo and change the camera angle to get a better angle, then play again to record? Sometimes the best angle for a shot is not always from behind the player character.

Actually, in the CO gameplay video, Jack mentioned that it was playing from demo so they might have functionality like that.

I haven't seen a game that had a demo you could have any hope of altering yourself since Air Warrior, though. And that was a LONG time back. Like late 80's.

You can change the angle but you have to get into the demo and change the camera position - then keep it changed. Balshor's demo edit program can do that and so can mine.

Pausing is actually pretty easy, just go into the place in the demo where you want it to pause and make the timing value bigger. Set it to 60000 and it will wait a minute before executing the next command. It's all explained in the demo edit documentation. Try checking the ParagonWiki.

Thanks, Zloth. Looks like I have some research to do. I used to do a bit of coding before so that's helping me to understand some of what I'm seeing in the demo file code. I had some fun yesterday by extracting different characters from a large demo I'd made. Now that I've got some action figure, I want to make them do something!

One idea I'd been considering (which is part of the thinking behind my OP) was to borrow certain elements from other NCSoft games to create an alternate world for CO* characters to interact with. Like the robots from Exteel or the rat creatures from Dungeon Runners (which I thought would've made an excellent encounter surprise in the Sewers!). However, after playing a bit with the CO* demos, now I'm getting other ideas from the toys in the CO* sandbox. Like new ideas for pets and for mission ideas for I13.

There really are a lot of great things to play with here!
