Whoever did it, they did it good. Still down, as far as I can tell...
-
I will be there with my emp def to ease the pain as much as possible... still on for tonight I hope?
-
I'm game, and will be there as close to 6pm EST as possible.
Badge characters are Scrapper (blue) and Dom (red), see sig. Have a variety of others to bring in on both sides if/as needed. -
On the plus side, Global Channels seems to have taken email with it, in particular anything with, say, very expensive recipes attached. Spam emails appear to be unaffected, tho... thank heaven for small favors.
Ah, patch week...
/snark -
Team Melee Masters finished in 1:00:05.
Being oh so clever, I took a screenshot to eliminate the need to record my team member's names.
Being not quite so bright, I apparently had it set to not include interface elements in my screenshots.
Oh well, they know who they were. Great run, 6 scrappers, 2 tankers. (We woulda beat 1 hour, but I was a bit slow on the draw on the first run to talk to Citadel, at least 5 seconds wasted right there. My bad...) -
Team Kung Pow! Chicken finished the TFT Sister Psyche in 1:28:06. The team included...
Legion Might
Microsurge
Leonidis
Kick'n Barbie
Blazing Edict, and
my character, Midgaard
Given that we had no healing and Sister Psyche had us jumping from Perez to IP, I think the team served up the pain quite admirably. Our only death was a self-destruct to emphasize the need for a team name including Pow!
A great time was had by all. Except the Freaks and Council stomped in the process, of course.
P.S. Happy birthday to Celestial Lord! -
I'll be there for as many of these as possible. My thanks as well for adding another spark of activity to red-side...
-
@Dark_Friar:
Sorry about that... the incongruity was having a whip powerset in development but not having a whip animation readily available. I was making an assumption as to why such an emote animation might be problematic without thinking thru the entire process. My bad.
Thanks again for the reports. Sounded like the Champion contingent had fun, glad for that. -
Quote:My feeling as well. Red-side is in need of some new material (IMO), why not repurpose some underutilized older stuff, already segregated from the majority of blue side? No, it's not a desperate need, and it's just a stopgap measure, but...I can respond to this one. Basically, they don't want to give new access to the zone without taking the time to make the zone magnificent in their eyes. Thus, they said that really the only way they would do new content for the Shadow Shard is if they did it all at once, and that would include new baddies/models/animations, storyarcs, designs, etc.
Personally, I think that's a little silly. It seems like adding 1 storyarc each issue and opening it up to villains would be enough to add quite a bit of content to a side of the game that is lacking without having to really dedicate too much into it. The jumpjets can be annoying, but they aren't something that's getting hundreds of requests to fix.
Ah, well. As you say, it's their ball to do with as they will.
Quote:This wasn't a leak, this was flat out given to us at the con. This is true, 100%.
As for the wip emote, it's a matter of being an entirely different thing than the whip attack animations. Similar to how SR had Elude's double backflip for years before a backflip emote was adjusted and inserted for everyone else. He said he'll look into adjusting it so everyone can have it as just an emote.
I've run into similar situations before on some indie efforts I've helped out on. Just not a graphics programmer at heart, I guess.
Thanks for the clarifications... hope it was fun. -
I want to LOL, but then I think of what I'd look like trying to do the same thing, and just shudder uncontrollably...
-
First off, thank you very much for the reports from HeroCon over the weekend, Dark_Friar, very much appreciated.
A few comments:
Quote:This one doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Was there more to the question?Super Speeding across the top of the water instead of super swimming - Game engine doesn't really support knowing whether you're in water or not at present and is very unlikely.
Something somewhere obviously knows "whether you're in water or not" since the animation changes upon entering water/hitting the water Z-value/whatever their method is. Flying an inch above the waterline does not have you doing the breaststroke, you drop that inch and you start flailing away.
Presumably all client-side animation unless there's a speed change. Poor man's version would be to simply not change the animation (and maybe modify minimum Z) for whatever that trigger is when superspeed is active.
I must be overlooking something on this one... what am I missing here?
-=-
I see what appears to be a lot of "perfect being the enemy of the good" in the dev responses... does that seem an accurate assessment? (I don't necessarily disagree with that, just curious whether that would be accurate).
Examples:
Quote:The Shadow Shard was Co-Op - They could do it but then they'd have to redo animations in the zone, fix the jump jets, add new arcs, redo graphics to make it look nicer, and the end, they'd rather make a new zone. At this point Posi Mentioned the Moonbase. No Details.
Other examples:
Quote:Water power sets. Not likely because they'd want to be able to make it look awesome for everyone. And not everyone would have the cards necessary to see it awesomely. So they'd have to raise the min specs for the game
...
Masterminds minions could be customized - They want to be able to do it Awesomely. Which means instead of giving you a couple models to pick from you'll want to be able to use more of a character creator to create them. No ETA on when but it is something they will do eventually it sounded like.
...
Inclement Weather - again they'd have to design so much stuff to do it awesomely that it's not in the plans. They'd need to have puddles and wet surfaces and all that stuff so rather, they'd make a whole new zone with content.
Someone was "leaking"/suggesting flame whip (different thread, I'll find the link if asked) as the attack for Demon Summoning, and a dev has to "look into" a whip emote? -
On the Lifetime subscriptions:
I think there is a portion of the calculation is somewhat non-economic. A lifetime subscriber is going to drift in and out of the game: after all, there's never any economic reason to "unsubscribe". They form a (potential) strata of players who will keep the world inhabited for other regularly paying/potential new players.
Also, the time frame the company is concerned with isn't the lifespan of the game, it's the lifespan of the average subscription/account. $200 at the $15/mo is 15-16 months, not including PV/FV considerations or collection costs. The over/under calculation for the company is based on account lifespan, not game/service lifespan. (Player perspective is different, of course.)
Also, remember that there was a limited number of lifetime subscriptions offered (to the point that it created hard feelings amongst some players who were told they couldn't get one, despite the original offer's time frame not having expired). Not sure how that was resolved, but it's not like it was an open-ended, get-it-any-time-you-want-it deal. -
For my part, I'll definitely be maintaining both. They are different enough that they are each interesting in their own way, so depending upon my mood...
My own reactions, riffing off Cherry's list:
HAVING to go through training each time: definite fail, but a typical MMO design oversight/flaw/failure. I'd bet that requirement will go away in a year or so, if not sooner.
Pace of the game until you get travel power: not sure I agree on this one. I am usually able to get my travel power in CO by the time of my first trip to the Power Center. You get it at level 5, after all. By comparison, CoH is the sluggard on this (yes, I'm thinking of _you_, Positron...)
The over the top cartoony/comic-booky nature : Once I turned off the "heavy comic-book outlining" in options, it wasn't nearly as annoying any more for me.
Powersets: missing more than a few things I really want, but there is some good stuff in there, too. I got my spell casting and dual pistols, but lost plants, gravity control, radiation projection, ninja summoning...
Acrobatics travel power: big tub full of WIN for sheer coolness, as far as I'm concerned. I'll be shocked if we don't see some of those animations in CoH in the (hopefully near) future. I spent a full half-hour just back flipping around the desert when I first got that one.
Auto-follow (and melee in general): frustrating, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I just wish, for the sake of Pete, they'd stop having _jumping_ turn off auto-follow. (But auto-follow on a moving NPC while using superspeed is freaking hilarious if you're willing to just sit back and watch.)
Inventory: Meh. I don't mind dealing with "stuff", but the prototypical inventory management sub-game frustrates the &$%! out of me. The crafting is marginally interesting, but out of the gate, I'm not seeing much reason to use it. Random drops are as good or better.
NPCs: I'd agree, some good stuff in there. Some of the movie references/in-jokes are cool, too, which reminds me: I've got to bust out the old Big Trouble in Little China DVD and watch that one again...
All that said, I've been with CoH since release, and I'm not leaving any time soon. -
3rd person default distance usually works okay, but I do zoom in and out as I switch characters.
I just enjoy watching the action too much to go full-on first person, esp. martial arts and flying blasters. -
Sounds like you've got something interesting planned... Looking forward to it.
-
Bah, whippersnappers.
Old School is someone that remembers the 5 minutes that being */Dev blaster was FotM because Smoke Grenade was bugged so bad you could debuff entire missions into auto-miss oblivion.
THAT'S Old School.
You youngsters and your IOs and capes and ED and all that. We got SOs and were _thankful_! I remember when the Respec was hard! When Perez was -the- place to go at level 7...
(mutter, grumble...) -
(and now, more along the lines of the rest of the thread...)
Dear CoH,
How about mystical and/or "plant/nature" options in lieu of the Techno-centric paradigm for Blaster Devices?
Examples:
Glowing Runes and/or Exploding Mushrooms for Trip Mines
Mystic Rings and/or Vines animations for Web Grenade
Mystic Floating Stone for Targeting Drone
and so on... -
Quote:Witty,Dear CoH:
What part of 'Pirate Masterminds' do you not grok?
The likely answer is a mere five words...
Ninja infestation at Paragon HQ
My condolences.
On a (slightly) more serious note... how about a Necromancer option to get ghost pirates instead of lich/etc? -
(Meant to be read in the context of the OP, i.e. "writing in a diary"... not quite along the same lines as everyone else, but hopefully mildly amusing nonetheless.)
Dear CoH,
Confession time. I've been two-timing a little bit. You know how it goes, someone new comes along, shows a little interest, and suddenly you can't stop yourself from wondering...
Now, you know P-City and I have never really committed (remember Stormreach? Or that little fling on the Burning Seas? And there'll _always_ be Rivendell...), and it's not exactly her style either (how many times have I been shut out of parties in the Hive... "full", huh?), but through it all, we've been solid and tight for a long, long time. I was there when she first showed up, and I've never been away for very long, even when times were tough. I don't really expect that to ever change.
This new one? It's the usual thing, of course. She's got some definite high points. (Example: you want to talk Acrobatics? Wow.) Nowhere near as much leading me around by the nose... well, less obvious about it, at least. Not as many barriers and boundaries, more flexible. She's got some story behind her already, and more to come, and some pretty cute quirks.
And some not so cute ones... let's not talk about patches, ok? And she _loves_ her little secrets... that's going to go from adorable to annoying _real_ quick. We'll see if that changes if we spend more time together.
However, she's not the same as the tried and true. Never will be, never should be. In a perfect world, the two will learn a little from each other as time goes by... both would be the better for it. But that's for the future to decide.
Anyways, I had to get that off my chest. As always, thanks for understanding... you're the best, CoH. -
Funny/weird story re: the Dr. Khan TF over the weekend...
We get to the final mission, and people dive in. Long load time... uh oh, bad sign... yep, only 5 of us made it. Well, we'll wait for the rest.
A few minutes pass, people are chatting in BMT, and we see a message to the effect of "yep, we're in the final mission of a Dr. Kahn, lost 5 on entering, just waiting for them to log back in to finish it..."
Somehow we had been split into two TF teams and given two separate instances. The 3 were able to log out and log back in to bring the entire group back together, and we successfully completed the TF, but it was an interesting glitch. -
Friday night was spent trying to complete a respec tf with my grav/emp controller... fail twice due to server issues/downtime, then bouncing around to some alts on other servers I hadn't looked at for years (1245 days? The game's been up that long?), then... sleep.
Saturday morning was an early start, ran some solo missions to get capes and costume slots with some of my mid-level alts. Family reunion (3 hour drive each way) took up the majority of the day. Ran in a late Khan tf (upon returning home, of course) with my emp/psi def, but was too tired to really get into it, so after that... sleep again.
Sunday was a failed ITF with my rad corr due to random mapserve/disconnects, successful ITF with my plant/nrg despite random mapserve/disconnects. Family sutff consumed the remainder of the day, sadly, tho I did some day job jockeying late in the evening.
Total levels: maybe 4 (yes, four, no missing zeros there) amongst my various alts. A goodly amount of influence and infamy stored up for continued IO/badge work, tho, so I am content. The mapserver/DCing issues were unfortunate, tho. -
-
Ah, yes... dumped 15 minutes from completing a respec tf. Gotta love it...
and unable to log back in for 10 minutes so far... -
In other words, Shadowbane. (essentially).

(OMG, I about died laughing at this thread...)
P.S. Statesman/Positron all the way! 4 more years!!!!!
