I have been playing a Dark/Dark Brute based on informaiton based on information from here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=141626 . I would like to try it as a Tank, but there's a lot differences between a Tank and a Brute. A couple of minor things: I didn't take a travel power. With Ninja Run + Sprint, it works fairly well. I haven't taken Taunt - I don't see the need at lower level when I will probably be doing a lot of solo-ing. Also, since I am soloing, I chose from the Dark Melee over the Dark Armor just to put out the damage. I also know that DA has a big hole in it's protection from knockback, so I slotted 2 Karma into it.

I just noticed that in Atlas Park, when standing next to the Super Group Base portal, you DO NOT get the Monitor Duty badge, or credit for it when you log back in.
If you are low-level and still want to get this badge, I recommend you go to Talos Island since the portal is right next to the tram, and has police drones around it.

The problem with #5 is that my resolution is at 1920 X 1080 and as I try to adjust the slider, the first point I can select is around 115%. It would be nice if I could type in a number rather than have the slider to try and adjust.
The only way I've been able to adjust this is turn the resolution way down, adjust the slider to where I want it, then adjust the resolution back up. Then I have to move everything back. -
Here are a few annoying bugs I've noticed since I21 (I am playing on the VIP server).
- Game forgets map clearing - I have the REVEAL power, and I use it on zone maps. If I am logged out for about a day, the game resets all my zone maps as unexplored. This is annoying when you're playing in a Hazard zone where the map is black instead of the "fog of war" you get in other zones. I know I've cleared ALL the zones, since I was the one who got all the exploration badges for my SG except RWZ (I need the one under the shield) and Galaxy City.
- Characters in Destroyed Galaxy City are considered "Heroes" until they select an alignment. Thus, they can join a SG in there, but they are the wrong alignment to join a VG.
- My SG base was created before the icon was changed. Now, all the "base details" have the original "Bio-Hazard" icon, not the one we've selected. I can't figure out how to reset this.
The chest emblem does change when the icon is set. We've tried a bunch of different icons, none of them change the base icon. Even if no-one has been in the base for 24 hours, it still doesn't reset.
- I can't set my window scale to 105-110%. I used to be able to.
- I have Going Rogue on my account, but I can't start a new character in Praetoria.
P.S. Is there or will there be any way to get the old Galaxy City exploration bages? I checked it out on another server that still has Galaxy City as a teleporter beacon set - I got there for about 15 seconds before it booted me to Atlas Park. -
I got the one name that will cause the greatest hero or powerful villian to run. My name will even cause the mysterious Devs to quake in fear!
I am the Lag Monster !!!!!!
Demon Summoning/Time Manipulation (Master Mind since this class can create the most lag, Demons since they are the most monsterous, and Time Manipulation since it will make enemies seem like they are lagging). And a costume so ugly, it's hard to look at. -
Yes, it has gotten long, 11 pages is a lot.
One little thing about your builds - you don't slot Brawl (I normally put in +ACC), Sprint (+RUN), and Rest (+RECHARGE). I know, it's minor, but those may be places where you can find some "mule" slots. I also have Prestige Power Slide (Endurance Reduction). That way I have a choice for extra speed or save endurance. -
P.S. have you considered starting a new thread with all you have learned so it won't be as long?
-
I have been reading your posts, and I am greatly impressed with your knowledge of the Ill/Rad 'troller, and all the work you keep going through to help people as they post their builds.
It has been a LONG time since I've played an Illusion Controller (it was a /Kin before IOs, needless to say, there wasn't a lot of synergy between the two). The one place where he really shined was it the TF in the Hollows. Superior Invisibility + Recall Friend + Decieve really helped get through this mission within the time limit. I reciently re-played this TF with a Praetorian Brute and really missed having an Illusion Controller on our team. -

I know you can open up more trays. However, They can be difficult to manage and find what you're looking for in them. They are NOT the same size as the existing tray, so it looks bad, and can be distracting if you are trying to get things arrainged nicely. They also interfere with the Inspirations. I think it's time for a makeover. They are doing so much with the graphics, and content, why can't they work on a QOL object?
What I am looking for is 12 instead of 10 buttons in the row. That way, I can use the keyboard to quickly activate the ones I want. Being able to open a 4th row might be nice, but not the same as adding more buttons in a row. I don't know what the minus and equal keys are short-cuts to. Thus they are unimportant to me.
And I have seen it posted that with all the other powers you can get (from mission rewards, invention system, veteran rewards, etc.), there just is no way you can get them to fit in all 10 trays that the game has.
If you add 2 slots to each row, then you are adding a total of 20 slots to all 10 trays. -
Right now, I have a level 35 Brute and my tray has all 3 rows full with stuff I use. That's 30 powers that get used frequently. This doesn't include the ones that get used infrequently and are on other rows. What needs to be done is to expand the tray from 10 to at least 12 slots. Since the Tray uses numbers 1, 2, 3 ... 0, expand it to include the - and = on the keyboard (right after the 0)
This is a QOL item would greatly help not only me but others too!
P.S. I know I've suggested this before, and it keeps getting pushed off the list. So I will keep posting this until it gets done. -
What I really want to see with the Check Name, is that when you're done checking a name, you can check another without having to click on the Check Name button again. Very important if the name is unavailable.
-
I am thinking of making another /Kinetics Controller. It has been a very long time since I played one. It's a Fire/ and the Fire/ has been over done. There are several new primaries available and since I'm starting from level 1, I thought it would be a good time to try something different.
Here are some of my general thoughts, in no paticilar order:
1) The only other Primary I am familiar with is Illusion Control. Lots of pets and, if I recall correctly, most of these pets are unbuffable with /Kin
2) Some Primaries have no pets, again a drawback for a /Kin
3) I've seen Plant Control. I don't know what to make of that set
Any information/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. -

P.S. Does Arena combat count for PvP kills for the badges?
-
I need a lot of PvP help. I might even be beyond help!
I have never been a PvPer, and ganking or getting ganked has never been fun for me. However, I need to go PvP so I can earn those badges for my SG so we can upgrade our base. What I am looking for is not to become a PvP master or spend a ton on enhancements. I just need help with survivability and usefulness on a team.
Server: Virtue (Blue Side).
Some of the characters I have available are:
29 KM/WP Scrapper
26 DM/DA Brute
25 Demon/Dark MM
22 Bots/Storm MM
19 Claws/SR Scrapper
Is there one of these characters I should concentrate on? What level and zone are good for PvP? You will note the Scrappers and the Brute since I think that they will be more useful in PvP but I don't know for sure.
Even if I have to spend a lot of time building a new character to do this, I will do what I have to to make myself useful (even if it's playing the "helpless target" to lure others in.
Any help/suggestions you can give me would be great! -
I just made level 22, and chose Super Jump. Wow! SOs really make the difference for endurance usage!
-
I used to believe in this pre-Praetoria. Now, around level 7 I turn off Earn Experience so can do all the contacts. Thus, at level 7 I slot level 10 TOs, then shift to DOs at level 12. Also, the Trading House/Wentworths/Black Market have greatly increased my lowbies Inf so the price of the TOs is minor now.
-
Another quick thought - will you be able to choose Praetorian instead of Hero/Villain?
-
There are some contacts that would need to be moved. I can't name them at the moment, but the trainer for respec and there is a contact that you have to talk to for the Cape and maybe the Auras mission(s).
I am hoping that Outbreak and Breakout will at least be preserved in Ouroboros since there are badges that can only be obtained there. I wonder how they are going to handle the Epic ATs - will they go to Galaxy City? I guess this means you could see a Peacebringer in Mercy or a Widow in Atlas.
What are they going to do with Praetoria? All new players start in Galaxy City... Will Praetorians be able to use Ouroboros to access Galaxy City?
Will there be a way for a Hero/Villain to go and do the Praetorian content later? There some Praetorian badges (like Resistance) that can only be earned by doing those storylines. -
I have been wondering which is better at lower levels (TOs & DOs).
I have always thought that +ACC is a much better way to up your DPS since if you miss, you do zero damage. I really dislike trying to attack and missing a lot (like the CoT ghosts with their -acc abilities).
Lately, I have been wondering if +DAM is better. True, if you miss, you do zero damage, but when you do hit, you hit harder.
Anyone have good information about this? -
Well, I've been playing this build for a bit, and at level 15 it does ok, although a bit heavy on the endurance. I am currently running with all DOs except for the Karma: Knockback Protection in Combat Jumping. Level 18 should help this A LOT with Dark Consumption (PBAoE, hurt them, give me Endurance).
-
Here is the build I plan on using up to 21. As you can see, I take Combat Jumping at level 12, Murky Cloud at 14, and Cloak of Darkness at 20 (when it becomes available). Both Combat Jumping and Cloak of Darkness will get a Karma: Knockback Protection in them. I also have an extra run power that I use so I can either get there faster (Sprint) or use less endurance (Prestige Power Slide). I hope this helps!

My only main complait about this is that since I just started a Dark/Dark brute (since I have never played Dark/ or a /Dark brute or scrapper before) I am trying to level up with TOs and now DOs, and it's getting hard to play since your power/slot choices are fine for a level 50, but don't make sense for a level 10. What I would like to see is a build with just TOs so you can see how to slot as you level. The expensive set IOs can come post 50.
I did get Combat Jumping at level 12 and put a Karma: Knockback Protection into it (EXPENSIVE!). This gives me both Immobilize and Knockback protection at 0.06 End/Sec. It turns out that the level of the KB Protect IO doesn't matter, it offers the same protection whatever the level of it is.
I will probably bypass Super Jump and get Murky Cloud at level 14 since I have Ninja/Beast Run and Steampunk Jump for my travel power. Still not as good as a true travel power, but it makes more sense to me to get the resist power when those other powers work almost as good. -
I am in the process of running a Dark/Dark Brute and I have found a few problems with your current build, so I am modifying it for my gameplay. Overall, it's a good build. However, here's my opinion of some problems with your build:
- It may be fine for a level 50, but it's difficult to level using it.
- Some of your power choices don't make sense to me. You get Boxing/Tough at levels 12/14, but put off your travel power until level 24. Most people will want to get the travel power at 14.
- I don't think you mention that Combat Jumping gives you a little immobilize protection (this will help prior to getting Cloak of Darkness at level 30). While Hover will help you recover from Knockback & Knockdown a lot faster (you just do a somersault in the air, although it's slower to move from mob to mob). Also, Combat Jumping unlocks Super Jump and Hover unlocks Fly
- You wait a LONG time to put another slot into Stamina.
- You give Murky Cloud 5 stars, but wait until level 28 to get it. Although there are a LOT of powers you want, I think you are just waiting far too long.
Like I said, overall, it's a good guide. However, it can be rough leveling using your build. I would like to see a build you can play/level with instead of a post-respec build for a level 50.
