The real problem here is they wasted the "sexy green chick" marketing ploy on the Holiday Pack when clearly it would have fit the Retro Sci-Fi costume set much better.

It' the Paragon Reward system now. You get a token for any month you've subbed or for every $15 of points you purchase. When you claim the token you get the Vet rewards and badges that way now.

That's the link that should explain the system and I think it has a simulator if you want to try it. -
What about Praetoria Malaise? Have we killed him too?
-
Quote:I've seen missions backing this up too. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were just mutants too though. Lord knows what's in the water in Paragon that makes so many people get superpowers.Longbow Wardens get their powers from various types of super serums, there are a few missions that make reference to this, plus I think the description text on a couple of variants does too. I'm reasonably sure there is no mutation involved, but I guess a side effect of some of the serums is unnatural skin tones?

I had a thought about the Malaise issue as well. Sister Psyche didn't kill Malaise, Malaise did. We know that Malaise's death was a foregone conclusion, for Malaise. He didn't go in there thinking he might die, he went in there to go down in a blaze of glory. He and Aurora-Psyche were rending control from Sis. I think there is a distinct chance that Malaise encouraged her to kill him. This was all part of his plan after all.

Quote:I would like you to do something for me, Issen. Think about the Rikti War Zone. Now Rikti are one of those big threats that the Villains had to set aside our goals to help the Heroes fight, right? Who else is in the Rikti War Zone? Arachnos, Crey, Malta, Council, Knives, Devouring Earth, and Nemesis. What are those Villains doing? Because it doesn't look like they're dropping everything to rush off and save Fusionette. As for Cimerora, Malta has tried their hand in using that to their advantage too. And plenty of villains groups have been making deals with Praetoria. So the game doesn't seem to think the idea is so far-fetched. The 'Villains to the Rescue' story point has just been used so much to the point that it feels like a convenient excuse at this point. And this thing about "Villains should be pushing their plans forward and taking advantage of the situation, instead of helping" is also a load of bull. Any smart villain would realize that undermining the heroes at such a crucial juncture (Imperious Task Force, Lady Gray Task Force, and the Incarnate Trials) would only potentially damage or ruin any plans they have. Sure, villains could eke out a victory...then immediately lose when they can't stop the badguys from completely overrunning them.
Let's say if all content were more villainous, and we were the invading force attacking the Rikti Homeworld, Cimerora, and Praetoria. Now for those playing heroes the question would arise that "Why would we do this?" and the answer would always be "You've been tricked into doing it because the villains lied to you." Now you may accept that at first, but after a few times the plot point gets old, and worn out and just doesn't hold the same water it once did. Wouldn't you get tired of that and want some sort of better way to be used? -
Quote:At first I'd thought I learned this from a History plaque, but I found where I had read it.Wowza! Where did you get all that story from?
I infer that it's not in the game, or at least not in the game as a storyline, but from what you describe, these guys could make for a VERY cool storyline or two. We could work with or against them in their proper level range, which is 10-20, where we finally get to meet Martin Henri himself, and possibly reveal some connection between him and French monk Father Henri who imprisoned Bat'Zul beneath the mountain. On the face of it, the Luddites are nothing more than a bunch of confused hippies, which is why exploring their storyline and seeing how much deeper it goes could be so interesting.
And I agree - if we bring Bat'Zul into it, especially as his bindings weaken, that could make for pretty interesting Solo Incarnate content. That's actually more or less exactly what I feel Incarnate content should be - messing with the kind of divine and demonic powers that have shaped history and which could pose a massive threat if actually released. I like that idea a lot.

The Know Your Adversary links on the home page. I really paraphrased it from my foggy memory of their story, so if you want the full run the link is there. All that back story, and I can't think of a single story line for the guys. -
Their leader Martin Henri had visions and nightmares of the PTS and the truth to the source of its power. An old man keeps popping up in these visions telling him its his destiny to destroy the PTS. These visions grant Martin some minor super powers to sway people with his impassioned, but mad sermons. He is also being driven insane by them. The swear off all technology, so it's strictly old school weaponry I suppose. As for the head shaving, it's probably just some connection their Monk-like nature. For an enemy group with so little happening around them, they have a pretty rich little backstory really, and if they explored the Luddites, they would have to broach Bat-zul. Maybe that'll pop up as some sort of Incarnate solo content, lol.

Nah, Weaver would come back from the dead and take his organization back, and complain that it took Recluse way too long to get killed.
-
Sis was also only half in control of herself at that point, so she may not have meant to kill him at all. She was literally losing control. As for Ms. Liberty, it was mostly Manticore's fault, he could stop Alexis from getting kidnapped, his pride made him refuse help to go and save her, and so on. So a pretty good helping of blame is squarely on his shoulders.

Quote:I bet Johnny is really annoyed that he had to sell his soul, now all the people that can't sing just use auto-tune. I think he was a mediocre singer and the deal made him more appealing, but not better. Still not being able to sing doesn't necessarily mean he has to be a lousy song writer.I'm not sure (or maybe I've just forgotten) if Johnny's demonic deal got him actual singing ability, or if it just added magical compulsion to his still-bad singing so that people liked it anyway. If the latter, I see no reason his song should be halfway decent to read without music

Maybe, maybe not. Twilight Son's situation has shown that the Battalion is willing to deal. They will eventually go back on the deal, or try to take what they want later anyway, but that'd be a good way to get villains involved. Make a deal, have it work out for some sort time, and then they go back on it, and then villains get on board with the heroes to get a little revenge. Also a heavily used trope, but at the little things like that go a long way.

The thing is is we never get any kind of choice in that. I think most Villains would use this distraction to their advantage. Like with the meteors in Galaxy. While the heroes are busy dealing with some new threat gives the villains chances to set their own plans in motion, but no, we just drop everything and run to play hero. At least in First Ward, we get the villainous side missions, so I could take some time out from the save the day story line and do something dastardly.

Speaking of Recluse, what if this is HIS plot? I mean it didn't really occur to me, because Recluse doing something seems strange, but Wade can't be the real mastermind on this. It does seem to run up his alley. Wants more power, is scared of the Well, but he could take the powers given to someone else by the Well to boost his own. Also, I'e wondered if the real issue with this arc is not that the Heroes are incompetent, but that the Villains ARE competent.
Instead of just jumping at the chance to steal State's powers, they let some lesser villain group use the other obelisk and find its fatal flaw, that the creator didn't even know about. They've used established character flaws of the heroes to their utmost advantage, like Manticore's pride, and the Dirge of Chaos to weaken Sis enough for Malaise to get into her mind. How common knowledge is Psyche-Aurora? Seems like that would be a detail that the Phalanx wouldn't spread, Sis hid it from everyone in the comics if I remember right. Instead of waiting for Manticore to show up and kill Alexis in front of him, they took what they need from her and just killed her, all while using Blitz as a distraction. This really is a pretty calculated attack, meant to make sure the heroes can't get their bearings. -
Quote:Recluse is a putz. His big plan to defeat his greatest nemesis was to sit there and find someone else to do it for him. How many people need to bring back his helmet from the future before he realizes the Destined One project is a dumb idea. Given how his plans work, him sitting there doing nothing coupled with liberal use of time travel will be his plan to help. His mouth moves, but his actions say something different. He says he wants Tyrant gotten rid of, but otherwise takes no visible action. Villains helping out in the Incarnate Trials often has nothing to do with Recluse, he's not ordering them to assist.
So why hasn't Recluse taken ANY overt action? If he's just offering his verbal support to the cause it doesn't really mean much.
I'd bet on you being let down. It seems like a miracle that they remember Recluse is there half the time. -
With the SSA arcs, are the cutscenes memories or visions that flash in your hero's head? I've only run the first one, and it's been a little while. Does your hero see that cut scene, I feel like I remember it being said that they do.

I'd be willing to bet those costumes will make their way to the market again, but not so sure that it'd be some time not part of the Halloween season. The Think Tank piece is pretty awesome. I bought the pack for that alone.

Quote:This is also true. If we roll on comic book logic, this is a big event comic. Villains win for a bit, and then Heroes get the major victory in the end. I'm sure you'll stop us from taking State's power for ourselves and using it to do some awful stuff with it. At least we can be mostly sure that Statesman will go down swinging, even Villains will want it that way. Well, maybe not all, but I want it to be a knock-down, drag-out fight. In most stories (not all, but a sizable number) the story progresses with the "good guys" basically losing for the vast majority of the story. If they do "win" a battle, it is one of moral superiority it's at the expense of a worse loss elsewhere (Mr. Hero saved the love intrest but in doing so missed his chance at stopping the big bad's plans cold, thus negating the threat entirely). That's how dramatic tension is maintained. It's not until the 3 (or the 5th act, depending on the structure) where the Good Guys pull theselves together, figure it out, stop being reactive and take a proactive stand and win the day in the end.

May have to take that .5 away actually. I hear tell that the missiles still launch while you're fighting Blitz. As to your complaints, well, Villains are due a victory. How many times do we have to set aside our goals because some threat greater than all of us pops up and we have to play hero? No matter how despicable a character I roll, I can go to the Rikti Warzone and be given a mission that says Save the World. That's pretty insulting to a villain. We don't have a say in that. It not a big surprise that you feel this way though. Things have come up Hero so often that I was actually amazed when I finally realized that since a hero is guaranteed to die and be removed from the world in these arcs, villains would actually have a solid victory in this no matter what. I had come to accept the fact that villains will only get to win if they play hero, that I never really thought about what a sweet villain victory this would be. Honestly your post made me like these arcs all the more since it seems like the heroes are really getting hosed. Thanks.

I'd like to know why the 'song' he recorded doesn't rhyme at all, or make any attempt to sound like something someone would sing. Couldn't we have gotten a little music clip and a song attempt?
-
To Malaise though that was his ultimate masterpiece. True Sacrifice in the name of his art. Despite the comic book themes of the game, there have been plenty of dead heroes. Villains have a nasty habit of not staying dead, looking at you Protean. Still I'm a bit surprised that they'd just reveal it like that too. Were they tired of us speculating? That's half the fun of these things. Man the Phalanx is going to hate us.

Statesman would be a big shock, but it's difficult to kill off the flagship character and remove him from the game entirely. Every advertisement for CoH has featured Statesman, making it unlikely that he will bite it.
Everyone keeps mentioning that Statesman's face is the one on the game, but take a good look at Freedom's Logo. Statesman leaping forward into an epic battle with... A Lt level Clockwork? Hardly screams awesomeness. I really believe it will be Statesman that dies, but wouldn't be surprised if this was misdirection. States seems to be the target of this arc, but any of the Phalanx would sacrifice themselves for him, so it's still up in the air. One thing that I've gotten a good laugh over though is how States just rushed off the second something bad happens in is life. I would think that a hero would have had the fortitude to tough this out for the sake of the greater good. -
Does anyone know if there's any connection to the Villain and Hero stories in Who Will Die? I saw someone mention that hero side you disarm the missiles, but in a later mish one is launched in the background. Was that the villain half of the arc that makes the missile launch? I know for all the missions it doesn't, since the Synapse arc just has the Vil getting his powers only to lose them when the obelisk goes boom. And also it took a while to hit me, but WHo Will Die is a "Villains Win" story isn't it? Someone is dying no matter what the hero side does, and no matter how heroic a sacrifice the dying hero may make, Villains still win. I've gotten so used to Villains not getting their way for some reason or another that I didn't really think about the fact that no matter the side you play this arc on Villains will be getting a pretty big victory with the death of a Phalanx member.
