My Fire/Rad troller. She's my checklist toon, te only one's I'm trying to get all the badges, do all the TFs with, get all the day jobs, etc.
-
I run WoC on my Fire/Rad, mostly because I'm already in melee range with Hot Feet and Choking Cloud. WoC is no great power by any stretch. Most of the enemies it confuses are already locked down by CC or other means.
The best story I can relates about WoC was on a recent ITF. WoC was managing to confuse the Cim bosses, the Praefectus Castrorum, suprisingly effectively, which meant I was getting some nice buffs from their Shout of Commands.
My philosophy is hat if you're going to hang out in melee anyway, hit them with everything you got.

I'll agree that Impact is overused, but it's not quite as Fugo as Chicago. They used to use it all the time on old simpsons eps, for signs in the background and stuff like that. I'd have to turn the TV off in disgust.
Sgt. Six Pack is starting to get a little overplayed. It's the go-to font for when Comic-Sans isnt quite KAPOW! enough for you. -
The only font worse than Comic Sans might be Chicago. But Comic Sans is far more over-used and abused.

Friday night is usually my time to roll out my Fire/Rad and jump on some TFs or story teams. I've been trying to pick up some of the more exotic TFs to fill out my badges , like Fatham or Dr Q or Sara Moore, although I have some how neglected to do any of the respec trials as well.
So I just wanted to see if there was any interest in going off the beaten track, getting away from the farms and the speed ITFs and doing some content deep dive tonight. -

Y'know, in all this talk of Knockback, we're overlooking KB's kid bro- Knockup. Maybe not as flashy or wild as KB, but KU can be just as fun.
Not to brag (well, ok. Bragging...) I was playing my WP/WM tank on a Pug team doing Council mishes. I defeated one Council boss with Jawbreak just right to break the geometry, and his head got stuck in the ceiling. His ragdoll body just dangled down from the office droptiles. Delicious! -
Quote:Heh, funny you should mention that. I was just playing the Siege mission the other night with my Son/Men Blaster. He swatted me off his industrial tower, and I fell the 20 or so stories into a whole other mob of bots we neglected to mop up. They made me play pinball like I was Jodie Foster.Anyone who likes being knocked back should try fighting Night Star's or Siege's minions, then get back to me.
Still stings.
On Nightstar, KB saved my life! She blasted me off that rooftop, and out of harm's way, right before she nuked and took out 3/4s of my team.
Moral: it's not the fall, is the landing that kills you. -
Earth/Storm on a Controller. Sooo many stackable effects. Stuns stacked on stuns, slows stacked on slows. Two AoE knockdown patches that cycle pretty fast, AND can be cast around corners. Massive debuffs. More pets than a Crazy Cat Lady.
And the lamest heal in the game... Okay, can't all be winners. -
AND you can cast it around corners or from cover! Along with Earthquake and Quicksand.
Cowardly? Maybe. But cowards seldom ask for wakies. -
You could use Broo Ha Ha and use the jester costume pieces.

So apparently Freedom has been running teams of all Fire/Rad trollers with boundless success and glee. Why the hell should THEY have all the fun?
Anyone interested in starting a reoccurring Frad mish/TF/raid/Shenanigans team? All levels welcome, maybe even accept the odd Rad/Fire blaster...
Thursday nights since that's the only time Raid-free atm?
Maybe network it through /gfriends, but if there's enough interest, we could make a channel for it. -
My Ill/Rad troller Puzzling Evidence managed a freakshow until a voodoo priestess stole his face and cursed him to walk between the normal and supernatural worlds. He can shapeshift into various Fortean beasties like an El Chupacabra and a Yeti (haven't figured out his fourth form yet.)
The Chup's a squat little reptile dude with glowing eyes. His powers are all "blood" looking- deep dark reds oozing out of everywhere. The Yeti looks like, well, a Yeti; big, white and shambling, and all his powers are more "cold" looking. Whites and cool grays, so that his RA looks more like Bizzard.
My tech fire blaster has a costume that is basiclly her riding in a bigass powersuit. My earth troller Rockroach is normally super tiny, but one of his costumes is a superhuge version, using the Sci pack needle injection emote for the transformation.
If you can afford it, I'd recommend getting the Science pack. being able to swap genders and scales is REALLY helpful. Then again, sometimes the subtle transformations can be just as cool, like going from a very thin, lean build to muscular and beefy when you activate a certian power. -
My only criticism of Thermal is that with so many useful powers, it is extremely busy to play effectively. There's no such thing as downtime. You're always buffing/shielding/healing teammates, in and out of combat, and sometimes that can make your primary feel a little neglected.
It's a very fast-paced, multitasking style of play, much more intensive than, say, the scrapper style of "Find biggest enemy, Kill, Repeat." You need to keep an eye on your teammates heath, their buffs, and of course, the actual action going on. Personally, I find it kind of exhausting, and not always that kind of demanding play experience I want from CoX. However, played well, a good Therm is an Empath and Sonic rolled into one, and can make just about any team nigh Godlike.
Plus the powers look pretty sweet. Except for Melt Armor. :-/
Solo, of course, is a much more casual beast. -
RoF does feel "slow" in the normal attack cycle of a Fire Blaster. It's cast time is long, and its DoT feels like it drags, but its not without its uses. You can cast it around corners, which means you can hit them, but they can't hit you. My experience with RoF usually goes something like this.
1. Aim + Buildup + Fireball + Firebreath
2. "Hey look, I stole all the aggro from the tank! Yay!" *Dive for cover*
3. Drop a little Rain O' Fire on my aggressors, to finish cooking them and seal in their sweet, sweet juices.
4. Make a passive-aggressive comment that the tank might want to try out using "Taunt" next fight. -
Heck yes.
Any time there's a decent crowd gathered. Ambushes are a good excuse to nuke.
Inferno of course, does some lovely damage. (....hmmm, "Lovely Damage"... good toon name)
Thunderous Blast seems to lack... thunder, but I love the animation of the power surging into the player's fists.
Worst has to be Blackstar. The animation is so boring and generic, it single-handedly made me lose interest in my DDD.
My Fire/Fire likes to go Aim-->Build Up-->Inferno-->Pop a Blue-->Consume. Then back in the action.
The downside to this strategy is that after Aim-->Build Up-->Inferno, there ain't much left standing for Consume to pull endurance off of.
Side of bacon. Does that cost extra? -
Any interest out there in forming some Frad superteams on Virtue? all my villains are on Freedom :-(
-
Can you post the build in some forum friendly form? Some of us don't have access to Mids (at work) and some of us are just lazy. Some of us are both (ding ding!)

Quote:You absolutely want some KB protection. Few things are as annoying as charging in, toggles blazing, clicking Cinders, and getting swatted out of range before your power fires. The Choking Cloud/Hot Feet combo NEEDS Kb protection.Do you think the KB protection IO is necessary or should that slot go elsewhere?
BTW- what do you want out of this build? Solo play? Team support? Lockdown monster? -
Yeah, two Travel powers seems excessive. I had a hard enough time fitting in one on my Frad. Taking stealth seems like a weird choice-- I assume it's mostly to mule a LotG +rech, but you could fit that into hover AND a stealth proc AND get some handy Z axis movement. If you can, try and free up some room for Fallout, Mutation, and/or EMP. Any and all of those powers are pretty useful. If you're more focused on soloing, you could ditch the Fallout and Mutation, but EMP is still a great panic button.

I too enjoy picking on snipers. They're jerks, and they deserve it. I like to Gale them off the roof, let them hussle all the way back up, Gale them again, etc.
Also, the Superjump/Ninja Run "The Ground is Lava!" game.
Scraping Cot off the rooftops of KR with Hurricane.
The Frostfire ice half-pipe.
Mayhem missions. I love busting open mailboxes and seeing all those letters to Santa that will never get delivered. Mua ha ha ha!
Casting drop powers like Thunderstorm on REALLY inappropriate places on the various statues in town. Earthquake will make Atlas into ****** with surprising ease. -
Realistic butt physics.
EDIT: Y'know, without a quote for context, those three words sound very strange...
EDIT EDIT: Maybe I have Tourette's or something. Does it still count as Tourette's if you type it?
EDIT EDIT EDIT: Fantastical Butt Physics would also be acceptable. -
Damn, I hope they fix this soon. I keep putting off rolling a Mind/TA troller. I got the name and costume all ready to go...
