  1. Earth/Rad controller ftw

Once Animated Stone is slotted well enough and you can heal him fast enough, very few AV will stand in your way. A good bunch of GMs too can be soloed with an Earth/rad.
  2. With my Earth controllers, I can do good in that TF even if many of their powers are rooting for quit a bit. Earth Quake and Quicksands help to keep the team alive, as they trap wandering foes in it. However, their long rooting animations make them more challenging to cast. That's OK with me, I just need to adapt. The Blue Death is still slower than the casting time. You just have to be careful not to have ennemies around and to time carefully as well.

So I don't see any problem. The challenge is fair.

But when advising somebody new to the powersets, I'm not sure it is a good idea to recommend Earth/Rad as an AV killer when so few people have actually accomplished it.
Earth/rad is naturally inclined for AV fights, since it can beat the AVs and GMs regen and it has a nice "tank" as a pet. I do have a very good IOed out build, mostly for recharge, end recovery and accuracy, but I don't have damage processors and very limited damage increase capabilities from the IOs. Now, with the incarnate capabilities, you don't necessary need super expensive builds to do these things.

When advising somebody new to the powerset, why just tell him or her; "yeah you can do decent things with it", when you know you can tell him or her; "Given the time and efforts, yeah you can solo AVs and GMs!" It's always better to level the field higher than lower.

I beg to differ; Earth/rad IS a build to solo GM and AVs.

I have soloed Eochai, Kraken, Baddage, Paladin and Adamastor with my Earth/Rad, without temp powers, other than seldom shots of Veteran Attacks (they cost too much end to sustain these fights); only inspiration and accolades.

I have also soloed The Clockworking King (AV lvl45; I was exemplar at lvl45), lvl 50 AV Nightstar, Siege, Battle Maiden, Black Swan, Bobcat, Neuron, Chimera, Mother Mayhem, Malaise, Ghost Widow and lvl51 AV Dominatrix. No temp power, just accolades and inspirations.

The toughest were Siege, Bobcat and Ghost Widow. The two formers can kill Stoney very quick, and make it hard to heal him fast enough. The later can hold stoney, terrorize him, make him intangible, so she turns on you periodically; which is not good.

I have yet to come up with a good stategy to overcome Marauder's recovery and Diabolique bag of tricks.

Here are screenshots of the fight with Ghost Widow:

Well slotted, Stoney is a very decent tank, if you can heal him fast enough with Radiant Aura. He does good single target damages as well. Lingering radiation coupled with Enervating field are AVs nightmare and Volcanic Gasses, once perma, does nice DoT and make sure the AV is held everytime the PToD are down. RI and EQ, when well slotted, can minimize a bit the incoming damages.

But I bet I probably could work on a solo build by increasing number of attacks and his damage. With the upgrades to Rocky, he is now one of the better pets and certainly one of the most durable. With the right IO sets, you can buff his Resistance by 20% easily.

It wouldn't be too tough -- cast Rocky in range of the AV and stay near enough to him to be able to heal him and keep the Resist auras on him. Then cast the Rad debuffs and hit the AV with your attack chain, firing off LR whenever it comes up. Keep using Quicksand to help Rocky hit.
Me neither, I don't have any other single target attack, other than fossilize and the veteran attacks. My build is pretty much a team friendly one (see the first post). The only things that stand out are that I have a good recharge speed without having hasten and a good recovery. I only went for a 10% damage resist extra for Stonney, so he can put out more damage and maybe recharge faster.

The plan you are laying out in the second paragraph was pretty close to the strategy I imagined at first. However, running both Rad toggles was too much for me in terms of end recovery, for a fight that last that long. Also, the long casting time of quicksand can blow the whole attack chain. For a Psi AV, like Mother Mayhem, it could be all right, but against smashing heavy AVs, like Neuron and Siege, it could lead to the pet and the toon demise.

Fossilize and Stone cages also debuff defense, so the pet will hit more anyway. Plus Stone cages, since many AV can be immobilize, help set up containment. A good source of damages is also VG, once you put one or two proc in it.

Eathquake can be cast fairly fast and can be made perma. But it felt for me like it only has a significative effect when coupled with an other to hit debuff, like RI.

Anyway, you can try it and let us know how it turns out. Your feedback would be appreciated, since you are an experienced Earth controller.

So? Earth has the advantage of having a resilient pet that does decent damage. It is not perma PA, but with the right techniques and tactics, Stonney can last quite a bit, if not all the fight while fighting an AV.

What makes the Earth challenge interesting, is that it requires the toon to be multitask. You have to :
    1)Find a what to get the AV health regen stopped or overwhelmed and make sure the debuff doing so is applied almost all the time. In a matter of seconds you can screw up several minutes of fighting;
    2)Add damage on your own, so you don't rely exclusively on Animated stone for damage;
    3) Keep Stonney alive because he is getting most of the attention. Just that means: a) Healing the pet, b)minimizing the incoming damages;
    4) Find a way to boost the damage output of the primary attacks.

To say, Earth damage is "at the bottom" is kinda depressing. But to take an Earth controller and go defeat some AVs alone, that very few toons can defeat on their own, is kinda fun and rewarding, even if you have to faceplant many times and invest in expensive IOs.

Just look a fire control. It might be doing lots of damage on a single target, but refreshing the Imps often enough is a challenge too, since AVs do murder them very fast. And some found ways to solve that problem and defeat AVs alone.

Well, I have done it (Earth/Rad/Psi) and I don't even have any epic attack or pool power attack (See my build listed in the 1st post). So it "might" not just be possible, it IS possible.

Also, I'm staying out of melee range, so the only Veteran power I used occasionally was the Nemesis staff. And I didn't use the staff constantly because it is an end hog.

Most of the damages were done with Animated stone and Fossilize.

Anyway, this is why I created theis thread; so that people can share their experience soloing AV with an Earth Controller.

No. Heat exhaustion is a foe debuff. It would still be a key power of the Thermal secondary against AV, since it debuffs damage and regeneration. It also debuffs the foes recovery, but AV recovery is to high to be efficently counter.

In fact, thermal could be considered for soloing AV partly because of Heat exhaustion, since it has a -regen component. To win solo against AV, you either need to greatly debuff the regen or be able to output a huge amount of damage constantly. The option of debuffing the Regen is probably wiser for Eath controllers...

The other reasons to consider Thermal as a possible option are because you can make Stonney harder to kill with the shields, buff his damage and recharge and heal fast enough the damage he is taking.

However, when a fight can last several minutes, many times, the controller and the pet end recovery is something to consider and this is where Thermal is lacking

But, maybe by using several blue inspirations and recasting Stonney often, when he is out of end, could do the trick. I haven't tried yet.
  10. Earth control is known to be one of the best control primary when it comes to hard and soft control. However, while it is known to be an excellent team choice, it is also known to be lacking when it comes to solo play.

We would generally think that's because of its highly resisted damage output.

This is where I beg to differ. This is true that smashing damage is widely resisted. However, the Animated stone upgrade that happenned a year and a half to two years ago, made it one of best pet in this game. Its DPS is now pretty good and it is quite a resilient pet.

So here's the challenge: To make the Best Earth Controller AV and GM soloer.

    Now, the rules:

    1) You can use any secondary you like. In fact, one of the purpose of this thread is to find out what is the best secondary to make The Best Earth Controller AV and GM Soloer.

    2) You can IOd as you wish. To know the most effective build would be an other purpose of this thread

    3) You can use inspirations. They can be part of the strategy. AV fights can last a long time, so you have to use them wisely anyway.

    4) Of course, day job buffs cannot be shut down, so using them could help.

    5) The only "temps weapon" allowed are Veteran powers, since they end up being part of the usual attack chain and they have a big end cost that can be a backdraw when soloing AV and GM anyway, and the Supergroup Empowerment buffs. The other temp weapons, especially the Shivans, the Warwolves and the nukes are not allowed. They can have too much of an effect on the outcome of the fight. This would not be fair.

    6) No buffs from other player. This would not be considered soloing anyway.

    7) We are talking about same level AV. So, if you are lvl 50, you fight the lvl 50 version of the AV. So that mean you fight a lvl 45 Clockwork King exemp at level 45.

In this thread, we would like to know what you achieve: what AV and GM you soloed. You can put your AV killer build. You can suggest strategies related to AV soloing, give other tricks, etc.

    I will start.

With my Earth/Rad, I have been able to solo the folowing Giant Monsters: Eochai, Paladin, Kraken, Baddage and Adamastor. Unfortunatly, Jack in Irons plays golf with stoney so he is a no go for me, for now. I have not yet found a way to defeat solo the Devouring Earth GMs, including Jurassik: their damage output is too high on Stonney for me to be able to compensate with Radiant Aura. As far as AV, I was able to solo the Clockwork King, Malaise, Mother Mayhem and Nightstar. Malaise and Mother mahem are easy, since they don't damage much Animated Stone. The Clockwork King was more challenging, because he tends to run away and to change target often. Nightstar is a long, long fight. She do resist smashing a lot. It took me 45 minutes to defeat her.

I haven't tried all the high level AVs, but I do see the limit of the Radiation secondary: The heal, many times, cannot compensate the damage output of many AVs and GMs on Animated Stone. If LR miss, you can waste a lot of time, because the AV or GM regen with kick back. It is only effective if you slot heavily on recharge reduction enhancements and set bonuses.

Right now, I'm trying with my Earth/Kin to solo some GMs. It is not yet fully IOd, like my earth/Rad. So far, I can see that I can compensate more easily for the GM damage output. However, Maybe I was expecting too much from the -Regeneration of transfusion and the damage boost of Fulcrum Shift and Siphon power, but it seems I can't dent them yet.

I'm leveling a Earth/Thermal, but I have little hope because of the lack or +recovery. I hope I'm wrong.
  11. Have you considered an Earth Controller? The Pet is pretty hard to kill and does very good damage. For sure it is not as straight foward as a Perma Phantom Army Illusion controller, but with the right secondary, and some key IOs (lots of +recharges, damage processors in Volcanic Gasses, some Pet + damage resist, etc) it can be feasable.

I have done it with my Earth/Rad. I have soloed the Kraken, Boomtown Baddage, the Palladin, Eochai and Dark Astoria Adamastor. Jack-In-Irons and Jurassik are way too brutal for Stoney. I'm still trying some DE monsters.

Some even level AVs were easy, since their attack are mainly psy, like Malaise and Mother Mayhem. I have soloed the lvl 45 Clockwork King (exempt down to lvl45 also). He was not easy because he has a tendancy to run away, but he fell eventually. It took me 45 minutes to defeat Nightstar. While Stoney can stand his ground very well with her once she is debuffed, she still resists smashing damages quite a bit.

Other secondary might be better to make a Earth controller an AV soloer, like Thermal radiation, since Heat exhaustion debuff the damage and the regen, and you can compensate Stoney weaknesses with some shields. I'm leveling one at the moment, so I will give it a try eventually.

Earht/Kin might also be able to solo AV. Lots of damage debuffs and buffs, Pet speed increase, relatively fast recharging heal with - regen on target and some damage resitance for Stoney (Smashing and energy). Personally I might try one

Anyway, the key is - regen powers. Without those, it is very hard to overcome the monster and AV regen.
  12. Although I play on the American servers and I live in North America, French is my motherlanguage. I will gladly do some of your Arcs. Actually, I think I might enjoy having the text and dialog in French.

Title: The Fengshui and the Shadow play

Synopsis: A known enemy group brings a new threat from 18th century China.
  14. Thank you for the comments. I fixed some typos and grammars. I tested the published version. The last mission completed correctly, so it might be a litttle bug, a stalker mob on Hide you didn't aggro or a mob hidden behind an obstacle in the corner. I changed the mission objective for "Stop the AV and her minions" So it is now clearer.

Based on you feedback, I changed one mission to give a little sense of emergency.

I chose this 1st map, because it kinda reminds me of the Northern China landscape. But I totally agree that the map choices are too restrictive. I wish one day we could design the map ourselves, like we can design the enemies.
  15. This is my 1st story posted. I tried to make an interesting story arc integrated in CoH lore. It is 4 mission long, but 3 missions are fairly short. There is a fair amount of text and this is a hero story line.

It is with a full custom enemy group (minions, lts, bosses and one AV). The enemy group is designed not to be super hard, but challenging for solo players and teams. This is why I suggest to play it with a toon level 40 and above and be carefull about your difficulty setting.

It has no counter!??! To far from PvE gameplay?!!?

I think we need to rexamine the larger picture. Every class with a stun or a hold has a 100% toggle dropping skill, which is a counter to toggle dropping. So long as your opponent doesn't have defense against that ability.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, What about Break Frees? What about clear Mind, increase Density, O2 boost and the like? Those are all mez counter.

Well, The holds are working in a similar way in PvE. Toggle dropping (other than by using mez) is almost absent from PvE.

Based on Castle numbers, Dominators are still the ones with the highest chance to drop a toggle. Also, if Controllers can take care of their oppenent by using mainly mez effects, shouldn't dominators be able to do the same, especially now that Domination is there way more often than it use to?

Blaster have damages, lots of them, partly unresistable. I fail to see why would they even need toggle dropping capabilities at all.

  20. Personnally, I really liked the WL event.

The downside is that probably some new people leveled probably very fast, without getting to know the game mechanisms. So be it.

However, for me that was trying to level and Alt Defender, it was really good. I mean, I am use to play a Scrapper. My main is close to the end game. So it gives me and probably other people in my situation, the possibility to experience other AT, Post Stamina. I always find the Pre Stamina levels to be very painfull and I don't enjoy them that much (except the Synapse TF that I like, especially since they redesign the Clockwork King hide out).

So the WL helped me leveled some ALTs to some interesting levels, see wich one I like and wich ones I don't. So now I can enjoy some different play styles and also enjoy having reach some more interesting levels.

So, for me, I was a success. I was having fun hunting WL for 3 hours in Boomtown and gaining 2 or 3 levels during that time.

Thank you for this last post.

And I speak french, I really do since I'm able to speak.
I just find some words misleading once translated (same for comics, I love US comics but I find their french translation ridiculous, seriously Wolverine is Serval ?).

I don't really fear for my registry either.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But, I got to admit, "Ravageur" is WAY cooler than Scrapper. To my ears, scrapper kind of sound very sloppy, where "ravageur" just sounds mean! It made me think of that old B movie "Toxic the Avenger" that they translate in french "Toxic le Ravageur". Also, "Ravageur" does makes sense as a French translation. "Faire des ravages, Ravager un endroit, etc." all mean that heavy damages were done. My Scrapper, associated to heavy damages, is kinka cool. Me too, my main language is French.
