Why did you change my main language ?

I can't understand, my character creation screen is now in french, I don't understand anymore (the translations are hazardous)

I want a scrapper not a "ravageur"
I want my phantom army not an "armée illusoire"
some terms are misleading...

How can I revert to english ?

I installed the French beta three weeks ago (which I never played since I could not log to the euro server) and since today, I'm all in bad french.

Please, devs, anyone, tell me how I switch back to english.

Hey, a Ravager would be pretty awesome, actually.

DEVS! CHANGE THE NAMES OF SCRAPPERS TO RAVAGER NOW!

I hope there is a simple way to fix it, but I fear you will have to uninstall everything and reinstall the American COH.

I dunno, "ravageur" sounds pretty cool!

If you know how to use regedit, I *think* if you set the coh->locale setting to 0 it will default to english.

You *think* ?

What if it's not that ?

I guess I can go back to regedit and switch to another value.

You're awfully demanding for someone who signed up for the French beta and can't even speak the language.

Ravager does sound pretty sweet! Lets change names with Issue 4. While I think about it, I wonder what the French word for Tanker is? Le Tanker? ***** Kicker? Petit Morte? Anyways, lets start a movement!.....and no, not *****.....Lets get the devs to switch Scrapper to Ravager!

Unless of course they already have that name picked out for the CoV "anti-scrapper".

Check out my "Rule Britannia" series if you feel like something different. The arcs are #19599, #20575, #23977, #134775, #134923 and #144543. The series is complete, but spinoffs are in the works.

I know, I'm ashamed to be so demanding.

On the other hand, being french since 38 years (since my brith more or less), I obviously don't speak the same french as the one I read in the french menus.

And I'm really used to the english menu, AND I installed the french beta on a separate harddrive, AND I didn't imagine it would change the language of the US game.

And finally I would like to thank the mod. who answered so fast a technical question in a non technical forum.

Now that we're done with the flamming party, if I may ask again without hurting anyone's sensibility...

In the registry editor, I don't find any value called local setting, would it be possible to have the correct entry name ?

I think that when you typed "I *think*", you were guessing by memory, but maybe since then, you have checked for the real name to look for ?

Turn that non-French-speaking French brain of yours on and do a little digging. Search the registry for 'coh', 'heroes'...something semi-obvious...then just start digging around for something that looks like the red name was talking about.

And for Pete's sake--I mean, Pierre's sake--backup your registry first, I'm scared for it.

Godspeed Registry, may he be gentle unto thee.

Thank you for this last post.
I check this registry and did not find a satisfying match.
The updater language is set to 1036, maybe that's the one ?
But if 0 is english and 1036 french, I wonder waht the 1035 in between are...

And I speak french, I really do since I'm able to speak.
I just find some words misleading once translated (same for comics, I love US comics but I find their french translation ridiculous, seriously Wolverine is Serval ?).

I'm about the same at work, I work on american products, I am always in touch with american enginers, and there are some words on machines parts I don't even know the french translation.

I'm sorry, but I still preffer the english version, and I'm sure this nice red name will come back and save me when he has some free time.

I played a lot with the registry in the CoH beginning to adjust the windowed mode and such.

I don't really fear for my registry either.

Ah, you take teasing well. Good for you and your thick skin. I've searched around the boards and don't see any reference to the CoH registry keys that might give a clue to their location. You might want to try some searches, maybe you'll have better luck than I.

registry key coh->Installer Language
1031 = german
1033 = english
1036 = french

If you *had* created a key called coh->locale and set it to 0, that would have given you english, but the above is better if you have a coh->Installer Language key and no locale key.

I'm pretty confident a "red name" will help.
Maybe I need to repost on the tech.forum ?

(funny red names make me think of red shirts...but i like the red names better).

Another thing that annoys me: French language on french beta would not have bothered me, I could even have helped with translation, ie Natural is Naturel not Prodige, Prodige doesn't speak to me in term of origin.(if I could ever enter the Euro-beta, which I didn't because my updater always launched the US version)
But french on US server ?

I imagine a player who asks me "hey, what's this cool power you just used ?" and me : "The hell if I now, Armmée Illusoire is Illusion Army ?" in the end, it will restrain my communication level with other players.

But, I got to admit, "Ravageur" is WAY cooler than Scrapper. To my ears, scrapper kind of sound very sloppy, where "ravageur" just sounds mean! It made me think of that old B movie "Toxic the Avenger" that they translate in french "Toxic le Ravageur". Also, "Ravageur" does makes sense as a French translation. "Faire des ravages, Ravager un endroit, etc." all mean that heavy damages were done. My Scrapper, associated to heavy damages, is kinka cool. Me too, my main language is French.

Pinnacle:
Lynx Nordique: lvl50 Claws/Regen Scrapper, Physique 101: lvl50 Kin/Nrg Defender
Freedom:
Feu Radieux: lvl50 Fire/Rad Controller, Rocheuse: lvl50 Earth/Rad controller, Madame Kyoto: lvl50 Katana/Regen scrapper, Hivernale: lvl50 Ice/Kin Controller, Leve du Jour: lvl50 Earth/Kin controller

Yes, Ravageur is not so bad.

I was mostly surprised with the origins "Experiment" and "Prodige", I had to really think to understand what they were.

Science is Science in french, and Natural is Naturel.

But now, I'm back to the good US version.

Oh, btw, where do you play, which server and what time of the day ?

The original movie was "The Toxic Avenger". "Toxic" as in "toxic waste", not "Toxic" as a name. It actually really changes the meaning to switch the words around.

Just wait, City of Villains will have an AT called "Ravagers" - with a whole new set of scrapper like skills - Whips, Daggers, Streetfighting etc - and the French translation will read "Scrapeur" or something.

Ravager does sound like a neat name for an AT, and I could easily see it being one of the Villain ones. It has a more destructive air about it...

Little known Easter eggs:

Putting "Worf" into this registry setting will change the default language to Klingon.

Also, "L33T" will change everything into L33t-5P34k!
