    Exactly.

Having more costume slots would make the tailor a bigger inf sink, since more costume slots = more inf spent modifying costumes. Or, for those with a lot of free change tokens, more costume slots = tokens used faster = having to actually pay inf to change costumes when tokens run out.

I suppose people could wait until another free token comes along before changing their costume, but I highly doubt that many would (we are talking about gamers after all ).

Edit: I also don't agree with retroactive slots, but purchasable ones would be great!
  2. My favorite badge title is "Committed", especially for characters who are (more than) slightly insane.
  3. Hmmm.... Favorite memory....

As so many have said, it's hard to choose, so....

-Hearing about how newbs try to fly up to the blimp in Atlas Park and realizing that I'd never done that.

-Reading Arbiter Fabulous' articles (does anyone know if they're all in one place somewhere? 'Cause I'd like to read them again sometime...).

-Reading Dark Respite's "Nerd Flirting" stories (note to self: REREAD SOON so that the new chapter will make sense).

-Finding a link to the "Acts of Gord" website and spending the next 3 hours reading it. All of it.

-Finding a Dominator primary/secondary combo that I can solo with (mind/electricity).

-Realizing that the Storm set doesn't suck as bad as I thought it did, and is actually quite AWESOME!!

-Arguing with people on the forums until I forgot any other problems that had worried me that day (a.k.a., relieving real stress by replacing it with fake stress).

-Winning a costume contest when I was just going to make sure that there were enough people there.

-Getting wings as a costume part.

-Getting Sands of Mu and Nemesis Staff/Blackwand. These make my Masterminds sooooo much easier to play!

-Realizing that I'm not as much of an uber-n00b as I used to be (via getting frustrated with actual uber-n00bs).

I'm sure I'll think of more later, as soon as I can no longer post about it (like right before I fall asleep or something. In the meantime, I'm gonna go play my Demon/Pain MM .
  4. I wondered how long it would take D_R to find this thread (enthusiastic obligitory "more stories" comment goes here).

As for me, I tend to avoid making lore-based characters simply because I don't want to have to look up the correct lore to make one. I have a few characters who could easily be converted into lore-based characters, I've just been too lazy to do it lately.

Of those few characters, my favorite is Reverse, a fire/ice blaster on the Infinity server. She used to be a gang member with minor cold-type powers, but got roped into being a test subject for an experimental treatment that was basically supposed to change a person's personality into the opposite of whatever it was before the treatment. This didn't quite work as intended since, even though she's now a heroine, she still loves to beat people up. Her character description says something like, "it seems that I got some of both", which also explains how she has fire and ice powers (something I've struggled with explaining for quite a while, since I never liked the "oh I can make it hot, but I can make it cold, too" explanation). Her in-betweenness might be affected by Going Rogue, but for now she's just a fun character to play when I don't want to play either a super-mean villain or a goody-two-shoes hero (I can tell that I'm gonna have to play her now, since that's definitely something she would say).

In her backstory, I don't specifically say who used her as a test subject. It could've been Crey (even though I doubt they'd ever try to correct a criminal's twisted morals), but it's easier for me not to say, 'cause then I don't have to check the established lore. To quote a demotivational poster from Despair, Inc., "Laziness: Life is a journey, not a destination. So stop running."
  5. Another one: "If you take the train to the wrong zone, just turn around, click on the train door, and go back to where you were."

And another: "When you're at the train station, you have to wait for the sign above the door to show the name of the zone you want to go to before you get on."

One more for luck: "To get on the train, you have to get a ticket from a Ticket Vendor, but there's a weird glitch that put them all in the AE building for some reason."

    My version of this:
"If you ever get into a fight with those zombies with backpacks, just remember that they're bugged. They won't actually hurt you, they'll just get really close and do one of the 'flex' emotes. If you let them do it for about 5 seconds, you'll go up a level."

Other stuff you shouldn't say to newbs:

"Dominators don't need holds cuz both their powersets do damage."

"the Fitness power pool is sooooo useless! I don't know why anyone would bother with it."

"If you manage to kill off all the Hellions in Atlas Park, you get a special power that lets you summon a Hellion boss to fight for you."

"Make sure you don't use any fire powers, auras, or armors around cars or they'll explode."

"Failing a Safeguard/Mayhem mission sends you back to level 1, so you'd better not risk it."

"The only way to get past level 50 is to find something called the 'Cheese Wheel of Doom' and stand on it while doing the 'Chicken' emote. The only way to find the 'Cheese Wheel of Doom' is to stand on top of the Atlas statue and say 'Give me the Cheese please!' in Broadcast 50 times."

"If you get any salvage with an orange name, you have to give it to someone else immediately or else all the NPCs in the game will be teleported to your location and try to kill you. You're still too low for that, so I'll meet you with my 50 and you can give that salvage to her. Don't worry, she can handle it."

It doesn't have to be work specifically. The issue here is the time that's been spent. If you sat down at your computer for 5 hours a day for 30 days to get to level 50, that's a lot of time. If someone can suddenly get the same reward that took you 150 hours of game-playing to earn in only 30 hours game-playing, it's irritating because you (or at least I) want to know that your (my) time was well-spent and not just thrown away. Again, that's not the best example for a game, but it still works if you think about it.

His account hadn't been active for 3 months yet, and he'd gotten to that level door sitting while his friends PL'd him on MA missions. He didn't even know there were other zones outside of Atlas Park.
As much as I'd like to say, "please tell me you're kidding...", I know that you aren't. I've run across people like that myself, and their unwillingness to learn about the game is downright painful. It's a form of willful ignorance, I suppose.

I will now attempt to understand the OP's point: **With the Epic AT's being unlocked at 20, there is now no reason to get to 50. It's unfair that they're now available to people who are only level 20 for the same reason it would be unfair if people who worked 20 hours a week suddenly got the same company bonus as people who worked 50 hours a week. Hard work deserves to be rewarded, and that reward shouldn't just be handed out to those who don't work so hard without something to replace it.**

Okay, I can kind-of get that. I was a bit upset about it at first, too. I still think that a level 30 unlock would be much better than a level 20 unlock, especially since, as someone said, you can get a character to level 20 in a day, or, if you're more casual, a couple of weekends. 50 is way too far away when you're first starting out, but 20 is too close for such a reward as 2 new AT's to play. No matter how badly they suck, the concept of unlocking two entirely different KINDS of characters to play is still incredibly significant, at least to me.

What I don't understand is the "there's nothing to replace it" bit. Aren't we getting new end-game content with I17? You could argue that anyone could lackey/sidekick to someone and do it, but the characters who are already level 50 when I17 comes out will still get to do it first, most, and whenever they want to. That's the reward for being level 50; your character can do things that lower-level characters can't. Since most of those things are story arcs, that makes it an Epic Reward, too.
  9. I'll play almost any powerset as long as it's paired with something that complements it. Some powersets have more complementary sets than others (I can play practically any /dark corruptor without complaint). I'm still looking for a suitable complement for Illusion Control (answer: any DOMINATOR secondary!! Plz devs???), and Forcefields have never held my interest for very long, but the one powerset that I absolutely REFUSE to play is Empathy. I have a very good reason for this: Empathy is, by and large, the most team-oriented set in the game, and I prefer characters who can solo if they want to. I absolutely love the /pain Masterminds (lvl 35 bots/pain vs. Carnies at x4 players with bosses = BEST CHARACTER EVER!!!), but I tend to have the same problem with /pain Corruptors as I do with the Empathy powerset heroside. Besides, it seems like everyone expects Empaths to heal only, and I like to FIGHT!!!!

This reminds me of the time someone asked me how long the Time Travel missions usually take.

I told him that, if he did it right, he could finish before he started.
  11. Please do this! I want to have a PB in The Paragon Taxi Service!

I also want my WS to fly without having to change to squid form, but that's a completely different argument (or perhaps not, it's hard to tell).

If the VEATs can still get the Leadership pool, Kheldians should get the Flight and Teleportation pools. If someone takes fly on a PB or teleport on a WS then they're probably using someone else's account anyway.
  12. The cake is a lie.

    The cupcakes are little lies.

    Happy birthday anyway.

Forgot to save the sig. I've never been good with computers anyway. It should be here now.

If another poster does not care to express their ideas clearly, it suggests to me as a reader that they don't care that much about whatever it was they had to say, because obviously they didn't put much effort into ensuring that I'd understand it easily. As a person who cares a great deal about expressing myself with clarity and precision, I have a greater inclination to react favorably to those who appear similarly disposed. My reaction is much the same to spoken exchanges featuring slurred speech, mumbling, use of arcane slang or technical vocabulary outside of those circles familiar with such (a particular personal irritant, often employed as an assertation of dominance through superior depth of knowledge), or anything else that inhibits actual communication.

Regarding punctuation, the rules are often so staggeringly vague, contradictory, or just plain poorly thought out that I feel free to disregard them whenever and wherever they annoy me. For example, the discussion regarding the placement of punctuation within parenthesis a few posts back. The 'mathematical' approach, where the period is outside of the parenthesis because it is meant to apply to the entire sentence, makes perfect sense to me. I have every intention of defying tradition and style in my personal usage. The important points here are clarity and precision. Where a rule of grammar appears in conflict with either principle, I'm quite content to let that rule die.

    tl;dr

Communicate in whatever manner suits you, with the understanding that I will judge you in whatever manner suits me. If you don't care about your words enough to at least try to use them correctly, I can't imagine why I should care enough about your words to attempt to interpret their intended meaning.

Edit: Also, consider the word decimate. It means "to reduce by 1/10th." It does not mean "to generally destroy, demolish, ruin, wreck, corrupt, collapse, break, batter or vandalise."
I feel compelled to point out that the underlined word in the phrase in bold type should be "parentheses" instead of "parenthesis" since I assume you are talking about many parentheses versus one parenthesis.

Also, in regards to punctuation as it relates to quoted statments: Is it correct to use a period in a quotation at the end of a sentence if there was no such period in the statement being quoted? Could I have said "It should be 'parentheses' instead of 'parenthesis.'" or would it be more appropriate to say "It should be 'parentheses' instead of 'parenthesis'."? I'm also unsure about the punctuation I used to end the previous sentence, as well as the colon at the beginning of this paragraph. When is it appropriate to use a colon? A semicolon? A comma?

Since I obviously haven't taken a formal English class in a while, I eagerly await your responses.

Actually, I think I'm going to start an English class in two weeks. I'd check, but I really don't want to think about it just now; my head already hurts from reading this thread.
  17. You know how sometimes in life you pick Door Number 1 and then everyone tells you that you should've picked Door Number 2 because it was just AWESOME in there? That's how I feel right now. I wonder if I can get that one name I've been wanting on Champion...

However, since loads of other people are taking the same action merely because "that's what you're suppposed to do" it tends to bury the people that are making the actions out of Will rather than expectation.

It's one of those cases where it is rather hard to tell whether someone is acting out of Will or not because so often the choice of Will mirrors the choice of Expectation (someone acted out of Will in the past to lead society that way, however).
The "bounds of society" can become chains and shackles quite easily. In the society of the Rogue Isles, everyone is expected to obey Lord Recluse completely, and it would probably be "most efficient and effective" for them to do so, since it would mean fewer problems for them. That doesn't make it the right thing to do, though.

It might be just because I'm reading a novel with a "comfort and control through conformity" set of bad guys, but the quoted passage seems to me like a major brain-washing attempt. I'm sorry if that offends the poster, but that's how it seems to me. Of course, this post is all my opinion, but it seems like efficiency is more a basis for evil than good.

Case in point: If a person with power has a goal and seeks to achieve it most efficiently, they must silence the people who would prevent this goal as quickly as possible.

Whether you view the word "silence" as "kill" or something more benevolent like "bribe" is immaterial; it's still the wrong thing to do. This is probably why no one wants a society run by computers. Cold efficiency would mean simply existing as opposed to really living and making a difference (even though most people do that anyway, but don't get me started with that).
  19. I've seen worse. A lot worse. I've even dated worse (yeah, yeah, omg a girl plays CoX, get over it already). That picture makes me wish I'd chosen Champion as my main server instead of Infinity.
  20. Even though I started Red-Side and got my first 50 there, I don't really have it in me to be evil either. Truth be told, none of my villains are really evil. They're either mad at the world, apathetic, have their own way of seeing things, or completely nuts.

None of them are really evil, at least by my definition. To me, an evil person is someone who knows that they're doing something wrong. They know that someone else will be seriously hurt by what they're doing. They know that they're causing pain and suffering for their own personal gain. They realize all of this, and they don't care. They go ahead and do whatever they were going to do, and other people suffer for it.

I could never even pretend to be that person, so I don't. Maybe my characters have "wimpier" backstories because of it, but I think I'd go crazy if I even tried to be evil.
  21. "Please Come Home for Christmas" by the Eagles is always one of my favoites.

I also love the Roaches' Christmas album (not sure what the title is). It has the only version of "Frosty the Snowman" that I can stand to listen to (New York accents, FTW!), and I've been listening to it since I was a kid, so it has sentimental value for me. Their "Frosty" always makes me laugh, especially the part that goes 'And the children say he could laugh and play, but we don't believe them anyway! *children: He's real! He's real! *singers: Why I oughta... *children: Whadda you know, you're just a buncha grown-ups!'

Let's see, where did I put that disc....
  22. I'll probably switch some just to get an AT's power combo to the other side. I'll definitely have several villainous controllers, at the very least, simply because I don't like having to try to comprimise with corruptors and dominators (although each one is a good AT in its own right). I'll definitely take some corruptors blueside so that I can have defender-like characters that can actually damage their targets.

Not that I'm frustrated or anything.
  23. If I start thinking about how much I paid for this game so far, I'll start thinking about how much I have yet to pay for all the other cool new stuff (+ subscriptions), and I'll (probably) realize that I can't really afford it once I move out of my parents' house (don't worry, I'll be 20 on Dec. 2nd, so I'm not too old to still live with my parents). I'd rather just enjoy the game now and not worry about what'll happen when I move out.

    Still...

Almost 4 years (4 year-long subscriptions), all the booster packs except the 30-day jetpack, the initial purchase of the game, several character slot purchases, and the odd character transfer purchase add up to a whole heck of a lot, I'm sure.

    It was SO worth it.
  24. Blasters can be fun if you have enough green inspirations to make them work. I've only ever had one. According to my bro, mine is one of the hardier kinds (elec/fire), but I still miss the healing ablilities that the Corruptor has.

I see the Blaster AT as one that lives or dies by the words "the best defense is a good offense". Corruptors tend to be hardier than Blasters simply because they have other means of slowing the enemy's drain on their health bar. Since I primarily play ranged characters, Corruptors are ideal for me; I hardly ever get into melee range with my Blaster, and it helps to be able to heal/buff/debuff.

You asked if the Corruptor does more damage than a Defender or a Dominator. I can say for sure that Corruptors do more damage than Defenders, if only because Corruptors have the Scourge inherant (chance for double damage that increases as target's health decreases). I'd have to check the numbers regarding Corruptor damage vs. Dominator damage, but I personally prefer to play Corruptors over Dominators so that I can heal &/or buff myself &/or debuff the enemy.

You mentioned that you would probably go with the Kinetics secondary on a Corruptor, which would increase your damage output via the use of Siphon Power and Fulcrum Shift. In my experience, Kinetics can be aggravating on a Corruptor, especially when trying to keep an enemy out of melee range (since this practically renders Transfusion useless). That's probably just a matter of playstyle, though.

Corruptors tend to be welcome on teams, mostly for their heals/buffs/debuffs, but also for their ability to do damage at range and 'pull' an enemy if necessary. They also tend to do well solo as long as the difficulty isn't set too high. I've never had a problem with them, either solo or on teams, and I find them to be a thoroughly enjoyable AT.

I hope that this lengthy post helps answer your questions, and that you won't think that I'm being too much of a know-it-all. This is mostly my personal experience with the AT's mentioned (along with that bit from my brother), so it may not apply. Either way, I hope it helps.
  25. Mine is the name of a really good song by Blood, Sweat & Tears. According to my dad, this song sounds like it's really hard for the brass section to play (all those fast, short notes). His dad was a music professor at Oregon State University, and he taught my dad a lot about music and instruments, so I guess my dad would know about that.

I also like this name. It's the name of my first 50 (dark/dark/soul Corruptor). I always feel mischievous when I see someone call me by this name, and it's (apparently) notoriously difficult to for teammates to shorten. It also bothers my brother a bit (especially when I start humming the song), so that's a plus.
