Quote:Congrats Snow Globe. Thanks all for the support of our mutual hobby.
I'll likely recreate some badges as vector art during my "off" time.
BTW if you're going to do some badge art why don't you do up artwork for the Rescuer, Clothes Horse, Fashionable and Ostentatious badges and submit it to the Devs. They've only been dropping the ball on those 4 badges for years now.
-
Quote:Trust me, it wont. It will only cause them to start ******** that the Dev's are evil, soul destroying, kitten murdering super Hitlers for having the *NERVE* to *dare* put in a badge that, god forbid, they can't get.Quote:Like the min/maxers who had to get used to no longer being able to herd an entire map by themselves and had to work to find the new upper limits of what their Tanks could do, badge hunters will eventually have to give up on "getting every badge in the game" and settle for "getting as many badges as possible on a certain character".Heh... I got over it about 5 years ago back when the Devs first started hinting about Crossovers.Quote:...pfffffft HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Heeee, thanks Munki, I needed that laugh.
Part of the reason I made a conscious effort to create two main hero badgers instead of the traditional one hero/one villain badger pair most people did is that I suspected, sooner or later, the Devs might eventually give us the Crossover ability in some form or fashion. I've had all the bases covered for years now.
While it may indeed turn out to be the case that we will never be able to have one single character able to earn "all the badges" I know I'm going to do my best to have a top "badger that crossed over" AND a top "badger that stayed true". This way I should ultimately have the best of both worlds no matter what the badge consequences are.
Therefore I raise two big middle fingers to those silly "people shouldn't have what they want" Devs out there whoever they may be.
-
I also agree the "Grand MA badge purge" was a major overreaction on the Devs' part.
Instead of fixing 15-20 badges they just ham-fistedly axed like 80 of them out of the game.
It was annoying (epsecially since my main badger had around 730 badges before that) but that's sort of water under the bridge at this point.
I'm actually more concerned about the fate of the Power Liberator/Master Thief badge. Castle has been dropping vague hints lately they might be doing something about adding features to the SG mission computers. I'm hoping they finally decided to dust off the Cathedral of Pain trial and retool it into something that will finally work. I'm also hoping they'll just give up on the whole Item of Power PvP raid silliness and reassign the badge to something that we can earn again. Frankly I was one of those people who choose not to spend money to server-hop just to take advantage of an exploit an SG on a different server used to keep an Item of Power they shouldn't have had to get that badge years ago. Talk about a screwed-up legacy for a badge... -
Quote:I've been suggesting for several years now that they should just officially give up on the idea of PvP base raiding and simply rework the Cathedral of Pain Trial into some kind of PvE affair accessible by the SG Mission Computer. This way they can sidestep all the SG raid exploit problems and save some face be recycling some of that content into something we can actually enjoy for more time than the week or so we got to play with it back in November 2006.They mentioned recently that they're looking at bases, as well as the Cathedral of Pain and Items of Power, with the idea of repurposing them, as well as Mission Computers, which Castle has advised people to hang onto - although he's not said why yet

My real hope is that whatever they do they end up addressing the lingering Power Liberator/Master Thief badge problem. The fate of that badge has been in limbo for years now and it's high time that loose end finally be dealt with. We have many other badges which have since been re-engineered to be more accessible. Redefining that badge so that it is once again available to be earned in some form or fashion should be a Dev priority no matter what happens. -
Quote:No more useless than Super Jump over large bodies of water. All that is really required for the animation is a line going up into the sky. You can come up with whatever explanation you like for an anchor point.I understand that some people take the "it breaks immersion" argument a little too far, especially in a game based on everyone having various super powers and abilities. But frankly the idea of swinging when there are no anchor points is just a little too silly and far-fetched for me to stomach. Yes that "other" superhero game didn't let that simple concept of 3rd grade physics stop them, but the travel power they have in that game is just all the more dumb and unreasonable because of it. Sure you can come up with cheesy reasons why it -might- work in specific cases (anti-grav, magic, etc.) but why must we have to go to extremes just to justify its mere existence? If you can have magical or anti-grav swinging why don't you just fly and be done with it?Quote:Agreed. They did exactly this in that "other" super hero game, and it was fine. Really, if you are so intent on the game that the travel power breaks your immersion, it might be time for a breif respite from the game

Edit: Oh, and /signed
I'm not against the idea of swinging in general. But seriously... being able to use this power in wide-open spaces just as a matter of course is just a stretch I'm not willing to accept. Realistic physics should count for at least something, even in a MMO. -
Quote:I'm not going to debate what the playerbase of this one single MMO wants or not for new character costume features. But I will point out that one of the main video demos provided by Nvidia for its new line of GeForce GTX 470/480 GPU's uses the example of moving hair to demonstrate its new DX11 tessellation capabilities. Just do a Google search of "Nvidia 480 hair" and it's all over the place. Apparently this major GPU company sees "moving hair" as a key example of what people in general want to see from next-generation video hardware. Just saying...You show me the percentages of the playerbase that asked for certain things against what was actually put in the game, and I may be swayed. But I just can't believe moving hair is that fraggin' important. Not when new designs, armor, helms, hair styles, gloves, and the like are asked for more. If the playerbase asking for moving hair had that many members, it would have happened long before now.
Obviously moving hair represents a fairly hard trick for older video hardware to handle real-time. That's pretty much why it "hasn't happened long before now." But with the continuing improvement in GPU technology it seems pretty likely that game players are going to be getting things like moving hair as a commonplace detail in the not too distant future. It's possible that older games like CoX may never get updated enough to feature it specifically, but I would expect just about every new game from now on to provide some solution for it now that the GPU technology is finally getting good enough to handle it.
In any event even trying to take a stand against moving hair for game characters now or in the future is basically pointless all things considered. -
Quote:Actually one of the few character concepts I have involving a "fat slider" would be of a chubby girl who becomes a super-hottie when she switches over into superhero mode. This is basically just a different version of the classic "Billy Batson/Captain Marvel" transformation. If this game ever introduced a real fat slider and didn't allow us to set up both "fat" cosutmes and "thin" costumes at the same time using different costume slots then it would be a pointless feature to me.Thing is with fat sliders I think that if you pick a fat character you shouldn't be able to make that character skinny in any other costume, even with the science pack.
I think all fat characters that want to slim down should be required to go into "diet mode" where logging out in the hospital (or create a gym to log out in) lets you move your slider bar to slimmer bit by bit depending on how much time you have been logged off in that location and give us some badges like "Dieter" and "Nutritionist". Of course logging out in front of an "Infront Steakhouse" automatically starts to shift the slider bar back towards the fat direction.

Quote:I'll give the same answer to this I've been giving for several years every time this "vet token" idea comes up:So... I offer a suggestion. Ditch the old "set item each month" system. Instead, every month you recieve a special "Veterans Token". Players can then go to a special "Store" on the NCsoft Website.
Your idea is a good one and probably would have worked fine if the Vet system had been set up that way from the very beginning. But now the game is completely entrenched with players at all levels of Vet seniority. There's basically just too many problems with changing it now which range from various types of players whining to the amount of effort it would take for the Devs to rearrange it.
While anything's possible it's probably safest to assume the Vet system is never going to be changed for all sorts of reasons.
Maybe this'll be a "lesson learned" for CoH2... -
Without knowing exactly what all the pros and cons are to switching sides versus "staying true" are yet I'm not sure what my final plans are going to be with this. But I figure at the very least I'll switch one of my top badgers over and keep the other true so that I can get the best of both choices if necessary.

Quote:You act as if this new powerset will suddenly "introduce" the idea of that kind of fanfic/RP to this game. I'm guessing you haven't bothered to spend too much time in the corners of Pocket D already.5'll get you 10, there's already fanfic out there about what kind of nasty, depraved, sexual dealings with the Devil to get that power.
I can't wait to see the first catgirl/demon summoner, "chatting" with her demons in the corners of Pocket D.
Admittedly we might see a few more new "catgirl demon summoners" running around for a few weeks after this goes live. But there's always an uptick of everything related to a powerset in this game whether it can be applied in a "depraved" way or not.
Besides if you're really worried about too many catgirl demon summoners like that is there any wonder why the Devs haven't bothered to give us female MM hench-persons yet?
-
I'm not all that jazzed by calling them "iLevels", but at least that doesn't sound like a hi-tech feminine hygiene product.

Quote:So something that takes like 5-10 minutes to do might take 10-20? Big deal. Now my question is, how will this affect SG teleporters? will we need to collect all the new badges as well for TP's now? It already takes long enough to collect nevermind doubling it.
Even assuming the new badges will have to be earned to unlock new SG teleporters I would hardly characterize it as a huge new burden that "takes long enough nevermind doubling it". If it typically took like an hour per explore badge I could sympathize with you. But since it doesn't I won't. *shrugs* -
I understand that theory of writing, but I'd rather try to achieve that on my own rather than being -forced- to write that way based on an arbitrary GUI limitation.

That being said I don't think the bio space needs to be expanded by huge amounts. I don't want to read novels here either but it's amazing how often I could've used say 100 or 200 characters more than the current 1023. I've probably wasted several hours total in the last 6 years re-writing many bios that started out being around 1200 characters to squeeze down into 1023.
Regardless I'm not going to assume this is ever going to change. This has been suggested for years and nothing's happened one way or the other. At least this game's better than Champions Online - it only allows 500 characters for bios. *shrugs* -
-
The information about this Vet award pet has been on the official FAQ for years now. *shrugs*
People like the OP who seem to be surprised by things like this and get mad about something that most people haven't bothered to get upset with one way or the other for years just puzzle me sometimes... -
Sounds like VelRahn was just trying to reuse the flypose binds that were already set up on pre-existing characters. Why's everyone so quick to assume they weren't being properly or with (relatively new) powers that interfere with the poses?
That being said I can't really offer any other reasonable suggestions. I have characters which have had those flyposes bound to for years that just used them yesterday. As far as I know nothing's been changed about them. *shrugs* -
Quote:Maybe MMs deserve their own equivalent of Kheldian Quants/Voids.He does raise a good point. Some of the only things that give masterminds pause are uncommon or nonexistent on the hero side of the fence. Makes me wonder if the devs might purposefully add autohit AoE damage to some blue stuff just for the masterminds...

Quote:I've always wondered about people claiming to have the "first such-n-such" in this game. I'm not trying to dispute anyone's claim to anything like that (honestly, I'm not) but I'd like to know how those people really -know- beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are in fact the first to do something. Do the GMs PM you and tell you that you're the first or are you just making a relatively reasonable assumption about it?First on Union
Effy Unleashed DP/EN Blaster 1st 50 @ Union
Frankly I doubt I'd ever claim anything like that unless I had confirmation about it from the Devs or GMs first. *shrugs* -
Quote:And people wonder why the Devs have been reluctant to give the kinetics secondary to MMs.Now team your mastermind with a kinetics controller. Controlled enemies can't squish the pets well, pets get damage capped via fulcrum shift.
At least heroic MMs will have to team up with at least one other person to get that going.
-
Quote:*golf clap* Well played sir... well played indeed.I finally hit 50 on my DP blaster after almost three hours of grinding. It took me so long because after the AE nerf no one is teaming anymore.
What am I supposed to do now? I got the last power in the set and now DP sucks. There aren't any more powers to take. The devs should really make a new power so that I have some reason to play the character longer. How hard would it be just to add one extra power?
p.s. how do I change ammos?
The irony is that there will be a few real people out there who this scenario will actually apply to.
Whatever floats their boat I guess. *shrugs* -
Quote:I did, just a couple of minutes ago.Define the word "including" in a way that doesn't imply more than what's being announced

Quote:The term "irrational exuberance" comes to mind. Now that suggests new powersets other than two already listed!!

Sure it'd be cool if there's going to be other new powersets in GR.
But I wouldn't let wishful thinking convince you it's a forgone conclusion. -
Quote:I always give these new product webpage updates 12-24 hours to sort themselves out regardless. The store's back up for me, no GR pre-purchase.

It's a good thing this isn't the Steam forums, we'd be drowning in nerdrage.
Sure I'm excited about giving more money to our Devs, but I can exercise a "bit" of patience too.
-
I'll be pre-purchasing GR just on the basic principal that I consider it a vote of confidence in our Devs.
There's also the theory that the sooner our Devs get more money to work with the sooner we'll get more updates. Reportedly the Devs were able to use the money they made on the Wedding Booster Pack to speed up the development of the villain epic ATs enough that we got them earlier that originally planned.
As far as the extra month of play time goes I already pay for this game on an annual basis. Sure I might be giving up a free month by pre-purchasing, but the idea of tacking on an extra month to the back of my account to be available many moons from now doesn't really affect me too much.

*credit card ready to go for GR*
Like many of you I've probably spent a few thousand dollars on City of Heroes related stuff over my six years of play. But like many of you I've played so many hours that my average cost per hour is easily less than a dollar per. Hard to find entertainment values that cheap now-a-days so thinking about this is hardly depressing at all.
