Quote:I'm sure they'll get around to making sure that bit of "announcement fluff" is good after they've finished dealing with the major Hotfix that's causing game-crashing map disconnects. Priorities people. To Sam's credit, they actually have said that they are going to announce the WTF in the launcher, but as late as around midnight last night they still had not added it there. Excerpt from the news article yesterday:
"Look for the Weekly Strike Target to be announced every Tuesday on the NCsoft Launcher and on the City of Heroes forums."

Well for what it's worth it looks like they've already got a Hotfix ready to go for the problems with the WST.
Hopefully this will at least eliminate the "buginess" factor from this situation.

No your post wasn't confusing... the first few dozen times I've seen it suggested over the years. I'm not saying your idea is a bad one. But it's definitely not original and, based on the fact that nothing's been done about it for years, is clearly non-trivial as well.
And since your goal can be accomplished (at least in part) by the alternative workaround of simply increasing the current SG character limit it would seem much more likely to be accomplished that way than via the major undertaking you're calling for. -
Yeah they were mostly "snipped down" from "impossible to do naturally in 10+ years" to "reaonably possible to do within several months". This makes the current versions of badges like Leader and Empath just about in line with this new 50 TF badge.

The fact that those points pretty much invalidated your arguement against these badges make them fairly germaine to this discussion.
I'd almost grant you a little leeway on this point. Still they could have just as easily made the badge progression something like 10, 25 and 50 as well.Quote:Yep. That one requirement. 5 times the effort of the previous requirement. How is it unresonable to think that leap is a bit much?
Trying to paint this new top-end badge as some kind of evil "one billion HP version of Empath" is a serious stretch by any leap of the imagination. I'm sorry you feel that level of effort is (in your opinion) too much to ask for but unless you can prove that'll take most people YEARS for anyone to earn this badge I don't think you're going to be able to use the same arguments that got badges like Empath and Leader slashed down.Quote:Yes, because I don't have 99% of the rest of the badges. Mostly worked on by myself over the course of my time here. The few I'm missing are due to having to literally rely on other people in the time frame I have available to play. This new one trumps that relying on others by leaps and bounds. No one is complaining about "effort", and I'm not even hinting at any kind of ASAPness. It's the *amount* that's in question. I figured they would have kept the set resonable in the scope of 2, 5 and 10. But as usual, they went overboard IMO.
But thanks for trying to assume anything about my personality.
And as far as your personality goes I didn't really make any assumptions about that one way or the other. You're obviously free to have your own opinion about this. I simply beleive having badges in this game that take a few months to get are not the "big bad" you're making them out to be. -
Quote:Do I even have to bring up the point that you not liking how it looks is your subjective OPINION on the matter, not a verifiable scientific fact? Oh well, I guess I just did.Yeah but I have to SEE other people using it, unless you can tell me how to edit it out of the game somehow.
Make it LOOK good or don't do it at all Paragon.
I miss Sexy Jay and BaBs because they knew that while making the players happy is the right thing to do, making your game look slipshod and embarrassing wasn't the way to do it. -
Quote:The bugs in this particular release were bad. But it's hard to claim that the lag for this release was any more or less significant than most any other new release I've seen.Yummy! That new flavor is lagalicious! Crashtastic even!
A new issue or feature always brings out more players, however I somewhat agree with the OP about focusing on one/two TF a week. Zone lag is ridiculous.
The Devs have bent-over-backwards to make 98+% of this game solo-friendly and the one time they focus on a team-oriented feature people scream bloody murder like the Devs "never pander to us soloers".Quote:The devs should have also considered that not everyone wants to team or has the time to team and should have considered solo rewards instead of making that an after thought
I'm not suggesting the design decision to make WSTs team-oriented was good or bad, but I will strongly suggest that the "soloers" of this game strongly overreacted to a situation that will likely, once again, be warped/twisted towards their unique playstyle in the long run. -
Quote:I'll at least acknowledge that your "point" was a valid expression of your OPINION that I don't happen to agree with, or at the very least has not had enough time to be verified one way or the other yet. Your attempt to couch your opinion as a proven fact was simply less than acceptable to me at this point. No, it's worse, much worse. That's my point.
Yeah, I know. I just felt the need to say something. In the history of this game I've spoken up several times about things that I felt were detrimental to it. I don't think anyone has ever listened, but I feel the need to sound off anyway. -
Quote:I understand your point about having to "focus exclusively" on one character to get the 50 count badge within a few months. But ultimately we are just talking about that one single top badge. I consider it a new version of an "epic" badge like Empath or Leader and frankly I don't have any problem with having epic level badges that take several months to achieve. *shrugs*2 cents: If they keep that 50 count, I'd prefer if these were account-wide badges.
Due to available play time, I'll have to focus exclusively on my badger to achieve these badges, and I'm still talking months for this one set. Other characters who will like to get going on the new incarnate stuff won't be played much at all. Just feels restrictive IMO.
/2 cents
By making these new badges set at 1, 10 and 50 TFs respectively you can reasonably get the first one in one day (I know many people who did this already) and you'll be able to get the second one within a few weeks even at a relatively slow pace. How is that unreasonable by any stretch of the imagination? It's only ONE badge we're talking about that might take some people a long number of months to achieve with some "above and beyond" effort.
As with anything else in this game there's a certain amount of effort required to achieve it. If sprinting to get a 50 count TF badge is too much for you then either don't try for it at all or don't worry about getting it ASAP. For those of us who actually like goals to work towards I see nothing wrong with this.

Quote:I agree that doesn't sounds incredibly reassuring. On the other hand it's so early in the process that I'm sure that script is going to evolve (for better or worse) before it appears on TV.
Normally I'm pretty critical about shows in general. If you're familiar with my history of posts on this forum you might be aware of that. But as I said earlier in this thread I've been more or less waiting 32 YEARS for a new Wonder Woman show. I actually remember seeing Lynda Carter on TV as Wonder Woman back when those were NEW shows!
With that said I'm going to be watching (at the very least) the pilot of this new show even if we learn they've cast Betty White in the title role and she's fighting mutant space ninja turtle Nazis from planet Omicron Persei 8.

Quote:The WSTs are a new feature of this game thus a new "flavor" in my analogy. The fact that the new flavor this time around may have been Neapolitan really didn't factor much into the general point I was making. It's not a new flavor though. We already had the flavor. It's more like the store owners just introduced hot fudge sauce, but you're only allowed to have it on chocolate ice cream. People aren't going for the chocolate because they necessarily like it best, but because they want hot fudge sauce.
-
Quote:Well to be clear I'm certainly not defending the bugs or problems with testing in this case. I'm just arguing that the concept behind the WSTs (regardless of the unique problems introducing it to the game) is really not any worse or better than many of the other new features we've gotten over the years.I agree with you. How anyone can defend the devs releasing this with massive bugs that cause crashes is beyond me. We have test for a reason.
Once the problems are fixed it'll be yet another choice of activity for us to be involved with.
You aren't being forced to like it or hate it regardless. -
Quote:If it ends up looking like crap just CHOOSE not use it.Beast run looks like absolute garbage.
Don't put that crap in my game.
Anthropoid skeletons weren't meant to move like that, and it looks like crap in Champions, and it looks like crap here in City of Heroes.
Earth shattering crisis averted once again! No need to thank me lowly citizen, it's what I do here.

Quote:To me this game has become like an ice cream store with (for the sake of argument) 19 flavors of ice cream. Yesterday the "store owners" just introduced a new flavor. Obviously everyone's going to crowd around the end of the store where the new flavor is kept and there will be shortages/problems with serving it until everyone gets used to dealing with it. But eventually it'll become just like all the other flavors: some people will like it, others won't. Time will move on and sooner or later the Devs will give us yet another new flavor to choose from.I just wanted to give the devs my opinion. They made a misstep with this design. Be sure that, in Issue 20, you give us something interesting to do. Please.
I see the introduction of the WSTs as no better or worse than any other newly introduced feature.
We'll have to adapt to it just like anything else. *shrugs* -
Quote:Eh, I for one am willing to wait to learn more before assuming a very early "one sentence" summary of the show has nailed exactly what it's all about. Why even bother to call this Wonder Woman?
This is proof that DC can't work with Hollywood to make good representations of their characters, outside of Batman and Superman, and even that is hit or miss.
Sure it could end up being as crappy as that sounds, but it's really way too early to know for certain. All I'm saying is that I've seen plenty of shows I ended up liking that didn't sound so hot at first. *shrugs* -
Quote:The $64 question of course is "was pre-19.5 Incarnate content soloable because ALL Incarnate content was INTENDED to be soloable or was it soloable prior to 19.5 just as a happy albeit grindy coincidence?"Sweetie, Incarnate content is "Solo" content as well, until this pre issue of incarnate 19.5. Till 19.5 you could solo your way all the way.
Stormy
I might be mistaken but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it was mostly just a coincidence.
Obviously only the Devs know that for sure. *shrugs* -
Quote:People have asked for various ways to get more enhancement slots for years. They finally came up with an answer for that: Alpha Incarnate slots. You may not like that compromise, or even accept that was in fact the compromise, but that's pretty much all we're going to get with this.ok with the release of inherent Fitness, that meant more powers and less slots.
So I had an Idea, somehow somewhere in the game, whether with vanguard merits, reward merits, A-merits, or maybe buying them with inf from a special praetorian contact;
there should be a one-time-per-character option to buy around say 6 extra enhancement slots (to be placed on your powers at the trainer)
what does everyone else think about this idea? -
Quote:If the game is going to be able to track that I have 3 characters in one SG and 5 in another then it's got to be able to track not only "number of globals in a given SG" but individual characters in separate SGs. Let's just say to have the system Beef_Cake (and many others before him) have suggested would not be a trivial change. How does this suggestion make all your characters in the same SG?
Let's say you have 36 characters on the server. Each could belong to a different SG or you could have 1 in one SG and 35 in another SG, but it wouldn't count as 35 out of 150 members total.
That's what the OP is saying when suggesting tying membership to one's global.
I'm for this. /signed
I agree with what DumpleBerry implied. We all know SGs really need a fundamental reworking to address all the various problems with them, including this one with the globals. The Devs could either choose the "quick fix" like I suggested (just redoubling the current character limits) or they could go back to the drawing board and redesign the SG system from the ground up. I just happen to think one of these things is far more likely to happen than the other. *shrugs* -
Quote:I figured I was going to have to run dozens of TFs to get all the shards I wanted regardless of the "50 count" badge. And I assumed it was going to take me several months to do it regardless. To me it won't be a sprint to get them ASAP.The ONLY positive thing about having to run the 50 TF requirement is all the potential incarnate shards one could get from the assorted kills.
However that does not counter balance the negativity of having to run 50 Weekly TF's.
Run once for the first badge, fine. Ten for the second one?: ok. But 50 for the third? Nope. 20 would be more palatable.
Obviously you can define these new badges as a "grind" but I see it more as a "I'm going to have a few more badges in a few months for doing what I was going to do anyway" opportunity.
-
I have to assume this show is not going to have a big enough budget to have "cutting edge movie level" special effects. It would probably be easier for them to have her occasionally flying around in a hi-tech jet than to have her flying around freeform like Superman. I agree it'd be cool for her to do that - I'm just thinking they'll likely be trying to save their special effects budget as much as possible for things other than flying around too often.
-
People have suggested the idea of using globals with SGs for years now. If the Devs are considering it they've been "considering" it for a very long time now.
I tend to agree with the others who've posted in this thread that there are some basic problems with the idea. I understand that some people like to throw all of their characters into one SG, but there are plenty of people out there who don't restrict themselves to that for all sorts of reasons.
I think a far more likely and simpler compromise would be for the Devs to once again double the current limit from 150 up to say 300. We know the Devs already increased the original limit from 75 to 150 without much apparent difficulty. I suspect that doubling it again would be relatively simple to accomplish. -
Quote:Well I have no delusions that this new show may end up being, how shall I say, less than "perfect". But I'm going to give it a chance no matter how bad it sounds because this would still be the first Wonder Woman show on the air in 32 years. If it weren't Wonder Woman, people would probably like it. Boston Legal was one of the funnest and funniest shows ever made. They weren't even pretending it was a realistic lawyer drama, just a platform for rants and silliness. But making this about WW is going to generate levels of hate Kelley has never seen before.
Obviously I hope it ends up being a watchable show regardless. I wouldn't mind it having some comedic elements (along the lines of what Whedon did with Buffy) but if they go for total "self-spoofing silliness" it'll be very disappointing.
It'd be weird if it ends up being one of those "it's so bad it's good" shows. I'm not looking for Shakespearean level drama from this, but I do hope they at least "try" to make it semi-serious. -
Well I'll just add my sad little story to all of this: On Virtue I was with a group that not only experienced the "mapserved at the end of a LRSF just after getting the rewards but before we exited so we lost them" problem but the "multiple mapserves during a LRSF with a mixed group of people some with Level Shifts and some without" problem as well. As others have mentioned worked for them when everyone on that LRSF unslotted their rare alphas we no longer had any problems.
Clearly there's something going on. These problems may not be happening to everyone but they're happening to enough people to suggest something needs to be done, even if it's pets, real world weather causing the servers to be unstable or whatever.
I tend to agree with BurningChick on this. I think the game is having to keep track of a whole new set of data depending on which players and/or pets are Level Shifted or not. It's having to deal with a wider range of combat levels amongst a team and the extra processing is showing itself on the loaded live servers. Hopefully the Devs can address this ASAP. -
Please, use a little common sense. While I'll bet there are a few "special" people out there who might be able to run 50 TF/SFs in a week do you really think the Devs think that's a common ability amongst our playerbase?

Eh, there are still a number of badges I would consider harder and/or more tedious to do. I probably already normally run enough TF/SFs to manage a total of 50 runs in a few months regardless. If this means there's a new badge out there that'll take me that long to get so be it.Quote:Another one for me to chalk up as 'never getting'. Glad I'm not a serious badger.
