As with any new "flying gizmo" this thing will only be adopted as a serious device if it can balance all the engineering factors of fuel consumption, carrying capacity, cost to operate and so on. If it offers some advantage in some niche scenario that can't be filled by any other current vehicle then it might have a chance. Otherwise it'll just be curious flying footnote that might -only- be used by Batman.

Quote:Yep this was pretty much a "fix for one thing made the original thing worse" situation.I did PM a certain someone about this issue, and was told that the art team had fixed it a short while before the latest patch on Test. Here's hoping it makes the next build!

Glad to hear they already have a fix for it in the works.
Yes having a third "cameo and choker without the frills" version would be great. I'd also suggest a "plain cameo (with no design) and choker without the frills" version. This would let us have an "era neutral" item that could be used more widely for tech/magical/modern/etc. characters. -
Quote:Like I said there are people trying to argue that these costs are too high. If you want to quibble about it simply replace my phrase "end game content" with "something new to play for and earn". *shrugs*Pardon my ignorance, but since when are emotes considered to be end game content?Quote:I know there are plenty of people who are trying to argue that costs like these are too high. But honestly anything in an MMO that's considered to be "end game content" that you can finish earning as quickly as 13 days (or even say in like 45+ days if you are semi-causal about it) seems completely reasonable to me. *shrugs*
I generally agree with the idea that many things in this game should be "ungated" and available to everyone automatically. But by the same token I have absolutely NO problem whatsoever with the idea (that has been ever-present in this game for over 7 years now) of SOME content being gated. Even specific emotes for example.
If there wasn't anything out there to be earned like this then this game would suffer from a overwhelming sense of "what's the point of continuing to play" syndrome. I happen to like that there things I have to unlock because it gives me a sense of accomplishment beyond leveling, badging and so on. The fact that these things are relatively trivial to unlock provides an adequate compromise for those who either like or dislike unlockables.
There are some things worth complaining about as far as gated content goes. The stuff we are talking about here isn't really among those things. Anything that only takes a few weeks to earn is effectively by its very definition "perfectly OK and reasonable" for the scope of any MMO. -
Quote:BS? hardly...Its not right to have people pay for somthing then just give it out free to everyone
Thats BS and thay need to do something for the people who payed for it.
Companies of all sorts have been charging customers premiums for new "extra" features that eventually become free "standard" features for decades if not centuries now. It covers their cost of development and provides an accepted source of profit. Ncsoft did it with CoV so there really wasn't any reason to think it wouldn't also happen with Going Rogue eventually. Welcome to standard business practices 101. *shrugs* -

So you can have 3 incarnates, each doing 3 trials per day, and that will get you all of the items in less than 13 days. -
I can understand why Masterminds get to rename their henchmen pets because that's a special benefit for being a Mastermind. But since -everyone- can potentially have Lore pets then everyone's Lore pets should have access to the same features/benefits. Basically either everyone should be able to rename their Lore pets or no one should be able to. The idea that Masterminds get to rename Lore pets just because they uniquely get to rename their MM henchmen is clearly unfair.
Like IanTheM1 I actually think everyone should be able to rename any pet we want regardless of AT.
But assuming that's not going to happen then at least Lore pets should behave the same way regardless of AT. -
Quote:I more or less agree with you on this. I don't think the next Star Trek movie would fail if Shatner -didn't- appear in it.Good. Spock's appearance in the first was more than enough. I like Nimoy and Shatner, mind, but if they're going to run with this new stuff they need to weigh anchor and move on from the past in their own direction.
But I probably wouldn't be too upset if they wanted to give him a bit part as a completely different character. A good example of that working out pretty well was when Richard Hatch (the guy who played Captain Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica) was brought back to play a small role in the new BSG that was a completely different kind of character. Might be fun to see Shatner play a Harry Mudd type character for instance.

Quote:Yes obviously the Devs would have to test dropping this costume change timer down to say 15 seconds (or Samuel_Tow's scaled timer idea) in order to be statisfied that it would still be a viable amount of time for the purpose it is serving. However, I suspect that neither of us are network analysts, nor familiar with CoH's bandwith requirements or availability, therefore, this is all conjecture. And I doubt that a timer implemented for flood control will be removed or reduced without sufficient testing to verify that it's excessive, and I just can't see resources being devoted to something like this that most people would never notice or need.
But as far as the age old question of "would it be worth the Devs' time to mess with this" all I can say is that there have been countless people suggesting this timer be reduced for YEARS not only in these forums but from what I've seen of people chatting in game. If ever there was a candidate idea for the Devs to put on their "QoL improvement list" this would be one of them. Remember the Devs have "devoted resources" to change things that seemed far more trivial than this little ever-present annoyance.

She sort of reminds me of the Human Torch ripoff joke on the Venture Brothers where whenever he was exposed to oxygen he literally was "on fire" running around in pain and agony.

Your skinless character idea is pretty gross, but it's also pretty clever as well.

Quote:You realize that even with the 30 second costume change timer you could probably still get a group of determined people together in the same zone and synchronize a costume change at the same time and probably cause the same kind of mapserve problems you're describing. Sure the 30 second timer makes the chances of something like that happening that much less "accidental", but it still wouldn't prevent people from being able to do it on purpose.Because costume changes can crash entire servers.
Some time ago, the timer got reduced (I think it was a dev testing the change on the internal servers, and it accidentally slipped through to Live). When people discovered it, some people decided to test the claim that costume changes streamed too much data if allowed too frequently. A group of 2 or 3 people went to the globe in Atlas while there were a lot of people there and spammed costume changes. Everyone in Atlas was Mapserved shortly after. They were even able to replicate it in relatively low population areas (like in an instanced mission with only one team there). And if I recall correctly, that reduction only bumped the timer down to 15 or 20 seconds, not the 5 or 10 people keep asking for.
Even as someone who has a couple of decades of software engineering experience IRL I remain convinced that a full 30 seconds for such a safeguard timer is excessive hyper-conservative overkill in this situation. Your story aside unless a Dev can directly explain their rationale for why the 30 seconds is still justified in 2011 I will always believe that this timer could be reduced to 15 seconds without undue risk. -
I have no real opinion on the Lost curing wand recharge time. But I've been in favor of the costume change timer being reduced down to say 10 or 15 seconds for many years now. I realize that the timer serves a legitimate purpose, but having it set as high as 30 seconds has always been 2x or 3x too long for its own good.

Quote:As another idea for getting "costume slots via non-microtransaction methods" they could easily be retrofitted as Vet awards. Costume slots would make perfect Vet awards because they would provide an extra benefit without being overpowering or "unfair" to anyone. We already get an extra character slot for every 12 months of Vet status. They could follow that precedent by giving us an extra account-wide costume slot for our characters every 12 months as well./agreed.
Toss one in per costume pack. Let me buy a bunch of them at once. I'd go for *maybe* one in the Incarnate system given that they're giving armor for that, but the others should be much more easily available, much earlier.
If costume slots (like character slots) were obtainable as both microtrasactions AND Vet awards then everyone would be happy. You could either buy them now or get them for no additional charge as Vet awards. -
I have nothing strictly against this idea. On the other hand I more or less "solved" this problem years ago by simply using the Test server to try out major costume ideas.
I've wasted countless hours and countless millions of fake Influence over on the Test server experimenting with how costumes look under any lighting conditions I wanted and then once I was satisfied with a particular look I'd go back to the Live servers and make one "real" change to finish it without wasting any more real Influence than necessary.
Sure it's a tiny bit of a pain to have to use the Test server for that.
But then again that's exactly the kind of thing it's there for in the first place.
It's there for us to -test- things.

I've been using /settitle binds tied to costume slots for years. Enjoy.

The only gotcha with using them is that pretty much every time the Devs add badges to the game there's the potential that the numbers assigned to the various badges you're using will get shifted upward and you'll need to update the binds. It's fairly tedious and annoying, but it's better than nothing. -
Quote:There's at least one other superhero MMO out there that allows its players to both save/load costumes AND buy additional costume slots as well. There's no fundamental reason why this game couldn't be improved to offer BOTH features as well.A work around with all the costume cost reduction stuff goign around is to save you're costumes and switch at the tailor, not a very good work around, but one none the less.
As a player of this game I would obviously love a scheme that would let me get more costumes slots for my characters that would not cost me any additional money. That's pretty much a no-brainer.Quote:I still want more costume slots. I'd be fine with buying them if they were account wide, but I would much prefer a way to get them in game without being charged for them. I already give this game a good amount of my money a year.
But I've personally wanted extra costume slots for some of my characters for so long that paying a bit of real money for them would not bother me in the least. From the point of view of "how much money I already pay for this game versus the amount of time I've played it over the last seven years" an extra charge for some costume slots would be almost insignificant to me.
So would I prefer a version of it like Memphis_Bill or Techbot Alpha suggested? Sure.
But if it came down to having it Forbin_Project's way or not at all I'd very easily go with Forbin_Project's idea. -
I wouldn't mind having support apps that would let me do things like access the costume creator, markets, in-game email and chat, etc. But I would never bother trying to otherwise "play" a MMO like this on a limited portable device even if there was an app that could provide it. I'd put that kind of thing on the same level as building model ships in bottles - sure some people like it, but I'd find to far too frustrating to ever bother.

Quote:I'm still waiting for a backpack that will pop out small fixed wings when flying the same way rocket boots animate when flying. Probably the best example of what I'm talking about is something like Buzz Lightyear. There's enough room for everyone to get a style of backpack items they like.
I created tech-based a character about six years ago with the concept that a fixed wing jetpack was how she was going to fly based on the hopeful assumption that such backpacks would be added to the game "any day now". Well it's been six years and I'm still waiting - hopefully this latest booster pack means I won't have to wait too much longer.
-
Quote:I wish someone had asked that kind of question and got an answer earlier in this thread. So what's the flight duration on all these jet packs? Because that's one of the main problems that limits the utility of jet packs.
-
Quote:Reliability is obviously important. But the other thing that'll make-or-break this gizmo is flight time. The current problem with most "jetpacks" up until now is that they could only give you a minute or two of usable flight time before you'd run out of fuel. If someone can ever make a real life jet pack that could offer say even 10 or 15 minutes of flight time then they'll finally have something approaching practical.Reliability will be the major thing. As long as it's reliable as say, a helicopter, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
P.S. I was unable to watch this video due to restrictions at my current location so I don't know if it mentioned the flight time of this vehicle. If it did it'd be nice if someone could repeat that here in a post.

I've always liked the "idea" of comic books and I've probably read at least a few hundred individual books in my time. But I've never been a serious week-to-week fan of any title. I'm familar with many of the characters, but I don't really follow any of the ongoing stories.
This means I can usually accept a comic book movie as a standalone piece of entertainment without having to be worried (or annoyed) about how much or how little a movie follows the canon/continuity established in the books. For me it's only going to matter if this latest X-Men is a good movie in and of itself regardless of how it "fits in" with any existing material.
In effect I'm probably the perfect "comic book movie" fan.

Quote:I was always willing to give this show a chance. Unlike many people who simply prejudged this show after the first bits of news we got several months ago I pretty much expected that at the very least the "final product" was bound to be better than the first drafts that were leaked. Still hoping to get to see the pilot sometime so I can judge for myself if this was going to be bad show or not without having all the silly fanboi nerdage to hamper my decision.Seems like there was some potential wrapped in a layer of epic fail.....
Anyone who bothered to pay attention to the first info that was released pretty much knew for months that she was going to end up in the "shorts" version of the costume eventually. I'm starting to think if they had somehow managed to release the latest pictures of her first then there might have been less kneejerk negativity about the show and it might have gotten a real chance. *shrugs* -
Eh, I'd probably never listen to that kind of song by itself without the video. But it does sort of fit in with the theme/tone of the video so I was able to stand it while laughing along with Nimoy's silliness. *shrugs*

Quote:Some players I know still use the term "butt capes" for the widow dresses and "WTFs" for the Weekly Strike Trials. The Devs may not like that we come up with our own slang for things but I'm sure everyone will be able to cope if they release anything that could potentially be called "Issue 20.6" regardless. The Devs are using this naming convention...
Players are using...

It's sadly ironic that in the same country where they allow "slave labor gold farming" they also have corrupt mental health facilities/camps that claim to help troubled kids get over their MMO addictions by using such brutal tactics that they've actually "accidentally" killed many of their supposed patients.
Basically there are nasty people exploiting every negative side of MMOing in the real world.

Quote:Lame costume aside, I think the actress in question was indeed a weak choice. Though she didn't really exhibit "starlet wasting disease", in my view, she certainly didn't look strong enough. She just wasn't Wonder Woman. It always amazes me how many people seem to forget that Lynda Carter (who played the role on TV for years) was hardly the "athletic" type either. The people who want a Wonder Woman who looks like she could -actually- handle herself in a real world fight will likely always be disappointed.Quote:This girl looks like if you punched her in the face she would fall down and cry- that is NOT Wonder Woman.
Let's face it: if another live action Wonder Woman ever gets made the actress playing her is far more likely going to look like Lynda or Adrianne than not. And why not really - the character's power comes from being associated with the magic of the gods. She doesn't need to look "big and beefy" to be believable. Look at Supergirl. Without her powers she's just a wisp of a girl who'd probably "fall down and cry" if she were punched in the face too. Same deal with Wonder Woman.
If you didn't like Adrianne for the role that's fine. But please don't fool yourself into thinking the next one is going to be much different from her. *shrugs*
