Well considering that the second season of the show arguably lingered far too long at Hershel's farm perhaps they are going to try to speed up the progression of the story in the third season to sort of get it back on track to the faster (better?) pacing of the comic.

Quote:Again I'll simply point out, in keeping with the implication of the way that the "typical player" (like Energizing_Ion) regards getting badges, that getting the "average" PUG to collectively accomplish the Hospital Trick method to get the Avoids badge is in fact a minor miracle in and of itself. If you had a PUG manage something like what you describe on-the-fly then I would naturally have to assume that all the players on that PUG were at the very least much more sypathetic towards working for it (or at least not passively screwing it up) than most people playing out there. It started that way, and "die and stay in the hospital" is an instruction that's easy to communicate, easy to follow, and easy to see if anyone has failed to notice the instruction (the instruction was/is given before the final terminal in the final reactor is completed, so there's lots of time to ensure everyone hears and follows the instruction, even in a league where people have little to no experience with Keyes, trials, or even reading English).
If you think that -any- league could just accidentally get this badge without every individual in that league at least paying some level of attention to the Green beyond simply blindly mashing buttons then I think you have far more faith in the playerbase than I've seen in the last 8 years.
Quote:I've seen it happen through sheer stupidity lots and lots of times. But I would react poorly to someone I knew for a fact did it deliberately.
That's one of the reasons I don't volunteer to lead leagues. Anymore. -
Quote:When we were first attempting this on Triumph, I suggested (after a few failures) to the league leader that we just park everyone in the hospital and I and a few other players good at Oblit dodging would take out AM. We got it on the second or third try with five players.
I can't imagine the devs thought that anyone would use that tactic. I was a bit worried that players would not want to go along with that, but everyone gets the badge whether they are actually at risk of being targeted by Oblit or not, and it seemed most people would rather get it quickly in one go than be the one to accidentally fail it and have to go again.Quote:We also were able to successfully use this exact tactic on Victory any number of times.
Besides (for the purposes of this thread) I would argue that any league disciplined enough to do the hospital trick for that badge probably couldn't be strictly called a pure PUG in the classical "totally random and zero organization" sense anyway. -
Quote:What makes the Avoids badge hard to get is not that you have to avoid the green stuff as an individual player. I've run the Keyes trial probably close to 100 times now and I've only gotten stuck in the green stuff myself maybe a few times total. What makes the Avoids badge hard is that you have to hope that at least 11 or more other people have enough desire and/or common sense to avoid it at the same time. For that reason alone it's probably one of the most nerve-rackingly "team" oriented badges in the game.Yes I have to brag a little but I just lead a late night Keyes trial... and at the end "Badge Earned" appears... well I got the avoids the green stuff badge. We weren't even trying
So happy!
I would obviously never try to claim that a PUG could not randomly get it when they weren't actively trying for it. But by the same token I never assume such a feat wasn't just a matter of pure dumb luck either. -
Quote:Lothic: It is possible for something to be fun and underperform. However, if you let underperforming sets STAY underperforming just because they're fun...you're asking people to choose between fun and performance. Those shouldn't be exclusive options.Quote:This, a thousand times. A new player shouldn't be punished for picking a cool looking power set.
This game is a system that will naturally provide some powersets that are going to be qualitatively better than others. If they were all equally perfect then they would all be equally identical and boring. For what it's worth to you I have never had any problem soloing or teaming with my particular alt in this case. Once again I'll just say if you don't like Electric Blast and/or don't understand how to make it work then don't play it, but don't blindly believe it needs massive changes just because it doesn't suit YOUR playstyle. -
Quote:I've known for years that the "math" has always been against Electric Blast as far as how it compares DPS-wise to other AT/Powersets. But after playing dozens of alts up to 50 I still find my original Ele/Ele/Ele to be one of my most entertaining alts. I realize that enjoying playing such a "gimp" combo probably seems completely insane to some, but if you don't like the way Electric Blast works no one is forcing you to play it either before or after I24. *shrugs*I'm genuinely (non-sarcastically) interested in how you got this. Where did you see that it was a Top 5 set, what led anyone to say that? It's a low damage set with bad cast times and no practical secondary ability... Endurance Drain on encounters that mean anything is essentially nonfunctional.
Thanks (sarcastically) for suggesting massive changes to this one powerset just to make it "acceptable" to you. I would never argue that its perfect by any means, but likewise I find your single-minded hatred for it to be ironically laughable at the very least. -
I've been playing since the time where it took like a year to earn 100 million and 2 billion seemed like a total impossibility. Now as others have said there are ways to make a billion or more a day if you really wanted to.
Basically this game has evolved past the days when hitting the 2 billion cap was an amazing achievement. That's not to say it's a completely "meaningless" goal now - it mostly just means newer players can have as much INF as any 8+ year vet without being at any disadvantage. -
Quote:Heh... hard to say no to an idea that would automagically give my main badging characters a bunch of new buffs for badges that I probably earned (and semi-forgot about) years ago.I was actually thinking of adding accolades using badges that (mostly) already exist.
Still, as interesting an idea as this is I really don't see it happening. It would only turn my godlike characters into -stronger- godlike characters with buffs that would simply be that much more overkill for them. Besides that let's just say I didn't need more accolade powers to encourage my desire for badging in the first place. -
Quote:Except for the one I made in the post just before yours. *shrugs*There's no way to make a connection between Hellewise and Bo that I can see however.
Could be that the Devs of this game just like the Kenzi character a lot more than Bo. Of the two characters on that show Kenzi is the far more entertaining of the two. Maybe Hellewise exists in this game just to make the Kenzi reference that much more obvious. -
Quote:It'd almost be the "last" generation at this point.I am very much a fan of this idea.
It would be nice to be able to add a extra level of customization to horned characters.
Brilliant idea. And whoever came up with this idea is clearly the lyrical genius of our generation
Multiple people have suggested this fairly regularly for well over 8 years now. *shrugs* -
I've seen a couple of episodes of the show. I don't think it's really a spoiler to mention that Bo is supposed to be a succubus right? Maybe the name "Hellewise" (emphasis on the 'hell' part) is just meant to be a vague reference to the succubus thing. *shrugs*

Quote:Lynn Collins would be a reasonably good candidate for the role. I'd rather have someone like her who can act much more than a fitness model who simply "looks" like they could be Wonder Woman IRL.Lynn Collins, who was Dejah Thoris in the "John Carter" film and Silver Fox in Wolverine, would do a great job as Wonder Woman. She's beautiful, is a very good actress and can handle action very well.
Obviously I don't think the typical 90 lbs beanpole starlet would be appropriate either - the woman they pick should be at least relatively close to the character from a physical point of view. But as long as they get a great actress then it'll be relatively easy for them to use "Hollywood magic" to make that actress look completely believable as formidable Amazon warrior. -
Quote:I could see the possibility of a good Wonder Woman movie that basically "sidestepped" the whole Paradise Island thing. In fact it'd probably be easier to come up with a good modern story for her if they didn't have to bridge the huge gap between the "Greek Amazon" material and current 21st century America.I'm not convinced you need to start with an "origin story" movie at all. Tim Burton's Batman just had bits of origin filled in as flashbacks. I think you could do something similar for GL or WW. Start with the character as is, fill in backstory in flashbacks (which then only have key points).
But we all know there would be comic purists out there who'd have a conniption fit if we got a Wonder Woman movie that minimized/modified her background story in any way. Much of the rabid fan criticism that doomed last year's Wonder Woman TV show focused on the fact that they tried to disconnect the character from her Paradise Island origins. If a movie glossed over that in any way (even without directly retconning her) there'd be a bunch of people claiming the movie was a failure even if it otherwise turned out to be a good movie.
I just hope someone, somewhere can eventually handle the tricky balance between making a good movie which -also- happens to be a Wonder Woman movie at the same time. -
Quote:I've been running a GTX 580 (with a computer built to support it) for almost a year and it's still pretty much overkill for CoH. I have all the ultra settings maxed out and I've noticed no significant lags or slow-downs.Hi, everybody,
I have the chance to invest some money into my machine. Would you say the GeForce GTX 670 is worth its price (not just for CoH, but in general)?
Thanks for your time!
Frankly I would expect a GTX 670 to be totally over-powered for this game. As wonderful as this game is it's simply not graphically-complex enough to make a card like that even break a sweat. Remember for all its improvements CoH is basically a 10-year old game at this point - it's not bleeding edge by any stretch.
If you're looking for a GPU that'll be capable of running -anything- for the next couple of years then spending the money on a GTX 670 might make sense. But if its just for CoH it might be far more GPU horsepower than you really need. -
For all its faults I didn't totally hate the Green Lantern movie. As someone who'd never really read any Green Lantern comics even I could tell this probably wasn't the easiest character to do an "origin" story for without it feeling stripped down and/or rushed in the span of an average length movie. But even accounting for the rough edges I thought it was better than some other superhero movies I've seen.
I think much of the reason why it's been decades since the last live-action Wonder Woman show/movie has much to do with the same challenges that faced the Green Lantern movie. Her origin story is not exactly the easiest to translate into a workable movie script for audiences in 2012. There are many ways it can be approached, not the least of which is trying to decide if they want to keep it based on the 1940s WWII setting or try to rework it into something more modern.
We can be assured that no matter how a Wonder Woman movie is made there's probably going to be far more fan angst and bickering about it than most superhero movies. Apart from the story there's going to be all sorts quibbles about whether the actress is better or worse in the role than Lynda Carter was. I honestly don't envy the people who make any future WW movie who are likely going to chewed apart with criticisms even if it turns out that the movie itself is relatively entertaining. -
Quote:Personally I only really accept Zwill's statement here as being strictly true as long as the Devs remain completely devoted to the dead-end scenario that these badges MUST remain "time paid" badges without any modification to their requirements. Frankly I consider the Devs' seeming inability to "think outside the box" and accept that the way these badges are structured was always inherently flawed as the biggest impediment to getting these badges fixed in some form or fashion now.Quote:FYI: This issue, while seemingly simple, is actually very complicated. It involves not only development time from Paragon but also development time from PlayNC in Austin and potentially support from Seattle. This is not a task that would be easily accomplished and would involve a significant investment of time. This, along with the complexity of how to actually award the badges under the new system (annual badges just *don't work* under the new business model as years subscribed are not tracked in the same manner), are the major roadblocks preventing this from being resolved anytime in the near term.
The Devs (Posi?) seem to be so totally devoted to the idea of making these badges follow the failed "time paid" paradigm that they are unable to realize that if they just stopped beating their collective heads against that wall that they could reformulate these badges along the lines of something more straightforward and unencumbered by "significant investments of time".
Basically the Devs have allowed this thing to become far more difficult than it ever had to be in the first place and are now using that circumstance as a classic developer excuse. One more time I'm not demanding that the Devs be able to fix this problem in 5 minutes - but likewise I simply don't accept Zwill's implication that this is one of the hardest software implementation problems that has ever plagued mankind either. -
Quote:I'd love to have a Dev tell us why this would be unreasonable to do...Quote:The same issue that's preventing us from rewarding the other annual badges introduced with Issue 21 is what would be preventing us from awarding an 8 year badge of similar nature.
At this point, I do not consider the issue as dead and will continue to advocate for the issue to be addressed in some manner in the future, however right now there are other issues which are much higher on the priority list for us to address.

As an additional FYI, additional CS tickets should not be filed regarding this issue. While I do understand that this may be disappointing to some of you, unfortunately no amount of appeals will fast track this project.
Thanks and my apologies to have to be the bearer of bad news.
I will simply once again offer up the idea (based on my posts earlier in this thread) that I believe there is an alternative that would make this effort easier than the current dead-end scenario. I'm all for the Devs coming up with a compromise that would make this as easy as possible for them to deal with and I'm willing to accept radical changes to the badges if it'll make fixing them in some form or fashion that much more likely to happen.
As always thanks for your input Zwill and look forward to any progess Paragon Studios makes on this. -
Yeah this is sort of "non-news" considering that it seems like Wonder Woman has gotten a potential new writer/script every year or so for practically decades now.
On the other hand the success of the Avengers has only helped to advance the cause of ALL superhero movies, not just one for Wonder Woman so hope springs eternal that we may actually see her on the silver screen sometime in the next few years.
It would have been awesome if Joss Whedon had been able to produce his version but I can think of plenty of people worse than Michael Goldenberg. Yes Green Lantern didn't do too well box-office wise but again I can easily think of many -worse- superhero movies than that. And for what it's worth I thought 'Order of the Pheonix' was one of the best Potter movies.
As always I'll believe it when I see it for real. -
Quote:After looking at your copies of this book they'll probably just wonder how we lasted as long as we did...I'm going to buy 3, double bag them and stash them away in a safe so when the apocalypse comes any survivors might find them and realize just how bad things really were. Hopefully, they will learn from our mistakes.

Quote:Awww come on Dumpleberry - at least this proves Zwill still has a sense of humor.According to Seattle the website/forums updates will require no/negligible downtime. I classify negligible as 15 minutes or less.
Fingers crossed. -
I have heard or read nothing to suggest those badges are changing. RV already exists in a weird "time bubble" anyway depending on which side is winning or losing. They might eventually change the heroes in RV to reflect the latest SSA deaths, but there's really no pressing need to do that. *shrugs*

Quote:The fate of these badges have been known for weeks via the I23 beta patch notes. With all the changes going in we lose a few badges. For example, what happens to the Recluse Victory Statesman and Sister Psyche badges?
IIRC, the patch notes have not mentioned any changes with those. -
Quote:We all know they usually shoot for Tuesday releases but there have been a couple of Thursday releases which worked reasonably well in the past. The precedent for this is established.Ummmm, thursday issue release? Is this really wise??? not saying it won't be great if all goes swimmingly, just questioning the wisdom!
This Issue was effectively ready to go a couple of weeks ago but they stumbled over a couple of last minute bugs that held them up a bit longer. From what I've seen this Issue now appears to be as solid as any other so it doesn't seem overly risky to push it out the door now.
Let's just say I'm not extremely surprised to see this one get a Thursday launch date. -
Quote:The irony of course is that "Reality TV" is the gateway drug to a world where a TV show exactly like Running Man will eventually become a reality. If killing people for money weren't totally illegal, I would start the greatest reality show ever seen. You make a giant death list of all the other reality TV "stars", and assign a dollar value to them based on just how loathsomely repellent they are as human beings. Then, its a free for all on taking them out. You kill 'em, you collect said dollar amount. It would be sort of like the movie version of the Running Man, except the game zone is EVERYWHERE, and the Stalkers are EVERYONE.
-
Basically there's no "trick" to make any particular one of them spawn. Some people have argued in the past that certain combinations are more likely to pop up than others, but even if that's true there's no way to directly affect which ones appear at any given time. Random is random. *shrugs*
