    The Win Tank

    [ QUOTE ]
How do you cap the non-smashing, non-lethal resistances?

    [/ QUOTE ]

While IO resistance bonuses are pretty laughably small, when you're in Granite and sitting at 77-80%, needing only another +10% to cap, suddenly that bonus every single damn purple set seems to have (+2.52% Fire/Cold) is moderately useful. Similarly, the new PvP +3% resist IO (Wtf, only 3%? That's retarded!) is a sizable chunk. And if you're an old fart Veteran, the +dam/resist buff pet can throw you another +5% (hey, don't knock it, the only times you might ever need such a buff is against an AV...and you should know where to place it so it doesn't get killed). And finally, Scirocco's Dervish for +3.13% neg (and it only needs 3 slots--although, I'm more partial to getting +4.38% energy/negative defense from my PBAoE attacks).

Claiming Energy resistance is capped though? I'm a little skeptical as the largest bonus is 1.88% from Detonation and that gets a little hard to slot multiple times on a Tank.

    Anti-granite

    [ QUOTE ]
With Granite and Rooted on, movement is about the same as even level toon with sprint on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In order to do that, assuming you had Swift enhanced to +70% to cancel out Granite's -70%, you're looking at needing +90% to counter Rooted then another +50% to equate to a base, unslotted Sprint.
    5x7.5 = 37.5%
    5x5 = 25% + 37.5% = 62.5%
    5x4 = 20% + 62.5% = 82.5%
    5x3 = 15% + 82.5% = 97.5%
    5x2 = 10% + 97.5% = 117.5%

It's undoubtedly fast but your build has to be suffering to form such a set of bonuses (I'm pretty much certain it's possible to get a maximum of every run speed bonus, at that--although you can get the top 3 bonuses capped pretty easily without destroying a Stone/Stone...which is just about what I do, only 4x4% bonuses though).

it was only later that he discovered the power of the Red Side of the Force

    [/ QUOTE ]

And then the Blue side, then the Red side again, then the Blue, then the Red but only faking as he was still Blue then really going Red in the end after the Redder guy made his not-quite-as-Red status safe again, depending on the writer that day.

Oh and for the rest of you out there, this also means you wont have to pirate Office ever again, you can now use it free online, well not now, once it comes out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Never had to pirate Office. OpenOffice is free.

[/ QUOTE ]It also feels like steering an [censored] on stilts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I spent 20 minutes fighting with Writer to get it to properly display a graph comparing three equations.

    Ind. Variable: X. Dependent Equations: y1, y2, y3.

Should work, so I input the values and get:
    X y1 X y3

    Fix, inputting the values again:
    X X y2 y3

    Fix, again:
    X y1 y2 X

    Fix, again:
    X y1 X y3

I mean, yes, I can do the work in Calc (or Math, whatever their name for it is) as well but I like being able to make on-the-fly changes if necessary as opposed to having to copy and paste from another program. I pretty quickly dug out my Office 2010 disks after that...
  5. I have yet to find a Brute that would replace a Tank on my team assuming adequate player quality. I have yet to find a Tank that would replace a Brute on my team assuming adequate player quality.

Now... If you're asking Scrappers vs. Stalkers vs. Brutes... I don't see enough Stalkers that aren't played like idiots to really have a solid opinion. I'm not going to get into my thoughts on the matter mainly because they still won't sway me to say anything more to the question "What should I bring?" than "Whatever you want/have fun with."

    :

The one... absolutely... horrifying... and painful consequence of crossing over (need more ellipses...) is that there will be no safe refuge from MMs.
  6. I already played L2. I had enough of the 1.45*10^-276 percent chance for an enemy to drop a [censored] quest item.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
You PM Niviene, I personally don't think it deserves a sticky by itself, I just put a link in the already stickied Reviewer List.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except with the spastic monkey that seems to be in charge of the giant red "PURGE!" button lately, it'll be gone in a few weeks.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
With people being able to size their own difficulty and team size, you will see less asks for fillers, and farm crying babies won't get that much free PL.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is what makes this so amusing. If it is in a way a subversive method, it's utterly brilliant.

And if it's just a new feature to be had? Well... SGMate said it best:
    "'Bout [censored] time!"
  9. [ QUOTE ]
P.S. - SD/SS would have survivability issues against an AV I would imagine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why? SS/SD Brutes handle AVs just fine. If your equivalent Tank has problems, that doesn't really point to the set as the source.
  10. It already doesn't get Patrol XP. I'd be more surprised if it actually did get Double XP.
  11. You can't use Rock Armor or Crystal Armor while in Granite, so they can't assist you. Rooted, however, can be used and it gives Defense Debuff Resistance.

    Energy Melee DPS

There are three different topics on the Tanker boards as of right now that are within the top 100 last threads, all of which refer to DPS of Tank sets. There was one right underneath yours as well. "Scan."

That said, a properly-built Scrapper that is designed for ST DPS should pretty much always outpace a Tank (I believe Tanks tend to peak at about or under 200 DPS and Scrappers can exceed 200, with a thread I just happened to have open referring to a Kat/SR doing 243 according to Werner). EM doesn't even get any of the fun bonuses of Dark Melee (which is already a Scrapper set) or SS, so it's unlikely. Perhaps when ET was still really fast it could pull it off but not now.
  13. One reason is a debuff buffer.

Another reason has to do with balance between Flight>SJ>SS>Teleport movement rates. But I'm not going to get into that, if you spent a minute and searched, you'll find a thread with the exact same concerns that will give you all the information you'll ever need but probably refuse to accept.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    It's boring

    [/ QUOTE ]

    To you.

    [ QUOTE ]
it promotes people not learning how to play their character

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bad players promote bad players. And there is a deeper jab in this message.

    [ QUOTE ]
it causes people to level too fast, thus missing all the content in the game

    [/ QUOTE ]

Define too fast. For one of my 50s, I leveled off of just TFs and teaming with good players in, according to the game, 40 hours of played time, give or take goofing around time. Before the last batch of XP smoothing. Before AE. Before i9. I've read one person say "56 hours is too fast imho" among others that say 200 hours is too fast.

    [ QUOTE ]
It promotes poor teaming skills, after all why learn to work with the team when one or two team members do all the work so you can level quickly?

    [/ QUOTE ]

See #2, #2 again, then #3 and #2 at the same time.
  15. There are rumors of grandiose inklings.
  16. My teams refuse to take Empathy unless we know the player well enough to trust them with the set.

After reading the various "AE WROO-END COH" threads, I think I'm just going to start using the term "healer" for everything because of the fact it enrages the farming Puritans. The Puritans have actually managed to edge out indignant "heal0rz" as the top of the pile for annoying players.
  17. If you want to spew platitudes, let's just go to its natural close: Nothing is "needed" for any of the game content.
  18. My build goes for two goals which are to negate the penalties and raise survival by hitting softcap on defense. It does both and it uses a wide variety of sets. Because of the hideously wide variety, it's actually more difficult to get the pieces not because of expense but because of rarity.
  19. Except for the components of their damage that are Smashing/Lethal (Fire Sword, GFS, Smite, etc).
Granted, the ideal ST chain for Dark Melee is surprisingly "pure" in its Negative Energy damage so it's borderline negligible....except in cases of higher resistance to Negative...which LR has again, a lot of native resistance (in fact, LR is pretty much a bad option for soloing).
  20. [ QUOTE ]
You won't tank 10 GMs on Monster Isle with anything in CoH, for any significant length of time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wha?

I have a Stone that does just that and the SG has a Willpower that does it, too. The problem with getting more or less GMs on your character actually comes down to not being able to keep aggro on them because of the stupid Swarms that the Stropharia and ...Herders (?) summon.
  21. When the 'raw damage' meets resistance, you multiply the 'raw damage' against the resistance. For a single damage type such as Smashing or Lethal against say, Lord Recluse, who has a native 50% Smash/Lethal Resistance, you cut the performance in half.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
tank 10 GM's on GM Island

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only 10? And you don't have to do that on a Stone.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
This, incidentally, is exactly why I've been reluctant of late to review arcs. Because no matter what I say, someone can responds with 'Well, complete strangers gave me 5 stars, so you're wrong.'

    Meh, [censored] it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

People's perceptions tend to be skewed in that getting a 5 star rating ("A/A+, Mommy!!!") grossly outperforms a 4 ("Uh...well, at least I got a B- rather than a C+..."). Likewise, 3 stars doesn't mean bad, it just doesn't mean good. Many people can't make the distinction.

Of course, I feel the 5 stars should be done away with and replaced by 0.0-10.0. Sometimes the level of awesome is hard to quantify when you're given nothing but whole values to work with ("This arc is damn good but there are just enough issues that I don't quite think it deserves 5...but I feel it's a lot better than all the other 4s out there...").
And then of course, there are the arcs that actively try to lambaste you with their stupid. A '1 Star' just doesn't convey the message I want the person to receive. However, a 0.3 or 0.2 helpfully suggests, "I saw that you made something here by emptying your 'cheeks' over the keyboard and then hitting publish on the results. I'm not griefing you, your arc just sucks that much and you should feel bad about it."
  24. [ QUOTE ]
No personal experience with it, but it SOUNDS nice, as long as you can drop the AV in 2 min

    [/ QUOTE ]

EBs are not AVs. It gets wonky when some mobs have a habit of being called "Hero" regardless of if they are EB or AV class (although the difference should be immediately obvious when you come across them).
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Can a Tank solo EVERY AV in the game?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Depends on your definition of "every".

    [ QUOTE ]
What would be needed to do so?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [u]Hierarchy of Needs[u]:
    1. Survival - Can't kill the AV if you can't live for the time needed to take it down.
    2. DPS - More specifically, greater than 93 DPS (for "normal" AVs...see above in regards to what is/isn't "normal"). With a level 50 AV having roughly 27-28k health, as long as you have DPS greater than 93 and patience, you can take it down.
    3. Endurance to sustain the above - Should be self-explanatory.

    [ QUOTE ]
How many diff powersets could do it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure if you name it, someone's pulled it off (except maybe in-Granite Stone/Ice but hey, I wouldn't doubt it).

    [ QUOTE ]
What would we have to get Recharge and DPS numbers to?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Generally, the ideal recharge for AV soloers utilizes perma-Hasten which is, if I recall right, is somewhere around 114% global recharge or something.
    DPS is mentioned above.

    [ QUOTE ]
I see people wanting to build and UBERMAN for whatever reason, mine is to, just feel that symbolic and Iconic Idea bleed through my screen as a virtual homage to Superman.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Much like Batman, in CoH, is a Batman AT, Superman is a Superman AT. CoH isn't the DC universe, it's the CoH universe. It can be amusing to postulate cross-overs but I don't base my opinions on Eragon's version of magic as being superior to the type of magic presented in Harry Potter and vice versa (for example, that is). In before J_B

    [ QUOTE ]
Can it be done? Who here can come up with an answer to such a task. Maybe you've reached something close, but have fallen short somewhere, post you results and maybe someone has that missing part that could help you complete the formula for our COH UBERMAN!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nihili has done it with Shield/DM. I believe he has it with other Tanks as well. He's also a good source of information. I suggest you find his skull and stab one of those sap extractors into it so you can extract his tasty, tasty information and advice.
