hey all, new-ish tanker here with a question:

How easy/hard is it to IO a build to counteract the negatives of Granite?

I have a stone/stone which I'm planning on devoting the second build to granite armor...

(if there is a guide or something allready posted...just point me there <.&lt

It's easy but expensive.

Points that may not be obvious:

In granite, only rarely do you need to run rooted, and granite's movement penalty is less than rooted's.

Take and 3 slot swift for run speed.

Most granites use teleport for movement.

Well it's not easy, it requires 65% global recharge and as much movement bonuses as you can get besides 3-slotting Swift (although you will still be very slow with Rooted on, but you can do like me and bind a key to toggle rooted only in battles - and in most of them you won't need Rooted anyway when in Granite as you have your status protection anyway).

I don't have a granite tanker but my Granite Brute runs fast without rooted (22ish Mph versus 24 mph on a normal toon with sprint on). Basically all my IO sets went to recharge, regen and movement bonuses. Build below for reference (you won't need Tough/Weave in a Granite Tanker btw):

Sure! You can use Crushing Impacts on your Malllets, Stone Fists and Seismic Smash and Obliteration on Tremor, plus Stupefy or Absolute Amazement on Fault. Since you'll have more wiggle room (no need for tough/weave for example) you can also use the taunt sets for recharge.

Don't forget recovery bonuses tho, both Stone Melee and Stone Armor are end pigs. Mud Pots is the most expensive taunt aura for tankers iirc.

It's not stupid to take tough/weave.

Weave means with the way I've slotted mine, I'm softcapped for defence as well as having huge resists, and if I face psionic foes, weave + minerals caps psi def and tough is useful against the smashing/lethal damage that often goes along with it.

Stone melee IS a huge end hog, stone armor is not, granite/weave/mudpots (no need to run tough in granite) is similar in end to most armor sets with a damage aura.

eg
dark armor, 3 basic toggles + damage aura = 3x0.21 + 0.52 = 1.15 EPS
ice armor, 3x0.26 + 0.52 = 1.3 EPS
fire armor, 2x0.26 + 0.52 = 1.04 EPS
granite + weave + mudpots = 0.26 + 0.33 + 0.78 = 1.37

So with weave, granite becomes marginally the most expensive, without it, it's joint cheapest, but a lot of fire/dark/ice tanks will run tough which granite doesn't need, and some will run weave as well. Granite/mudpots/rooted is firmly in the middle of the end cost league.

The problem with stone is that if you have to run minerals + rock + brimstone + crystal + rooted + mudpots (carnies I believe do all the damage types) you are on a blue bar disaster.

Make sure the sets you choose either have large +recovery bonuses, or have a lot of inbuilt end reduction for the attacks given how heavy stone melee is on end.

I normally only run stone melee with a set that has an end management tool, my stone meleers are 2 ice/stone tanks and a SM/WP brute. I also have stone/axe and stone/DB tanks and a DM/stone brute.

I just did a granite speed build yesterday on my Stone/Stone tank, on his alternate build. I could have done it cheaper I suppose but I splurged a bit on some things like + recovery unique's and stuff. I'm at work right now but I'll post a mids build sheet when I get home tonight for you.

I was impressed with how it came out. With Granite and Rooted on, movement is about the same as even level toon with sprint on. With Rooted off.....he trucks! about like with SB on or maybe just below but he moves. Def and survival wise....I took him into a lvl 54 farm last night to check some numbers and he was good, he's not a damage machine but hold aggro very well (as long as its not like 3 or 4 spawns) and I always figured that my job as a tank is to keep the badguys pounding on me and let the damage dealers take them down.

anyway Ill put up the build tonight when I get home.

In order to do that, assuming you had Swift enhanced to +70% to cancel out Granite's -70%, you're looking at needing +90% to counter Rooted then another +50% to equate to a base, unslotted Sprint.
5x7.5 = 37.5%
5x5 = 25% + 37.5% = 62.5%
5x4 = 20% + 62.5% = 82.5%
5x3 = 15% + 82.5% = 97.5%
5x2 = 10% + 97.5% = 117.5%

It's undoubtedly fast but your build has to be suffering to form such a set of bonuses (I'm pretty much certain it's possible to get a maximum of every run speed bonus, at that--although you can get the top 3 bonuses capped pretty easily without destroying a Stone/Stone...which is just about what I do, only 4x4% bonuses though).

Yeah, that was an... interesting build. I certainly hope it was just for concept.

My Stony used to have around 52MPH out of Granite/Rooted (w/Sprint on), good in Granite alone, decent in Rooted alone, still sucktastic in both. My latest incarnation is down quite a bit, but I wanted to get my defenses up out of Granite.
