I'm having the same problem after I click on "Union". I wait a bit then it times out and says "Lost connection to DBserver" and sends me back to the login screen.

Is it normal for an Icey Tanker not to target mobs for most of the fight. I swear I don't remember ever having the experience before although I did recently return after a break from CoH.

My main is a Kin/Ele defender and after coming to the realisation that your anchor inevitably will die faster than you wish I gave up on searching for the least likely anchor to die soon and came up with the strategy of targeting through the tank. This is good as your heals are likely to be near the tank (except when someone does a knockback) and you can ID/SB the tank as required with little effort.

This has worked well for me up to this week when partied with an Ice Tank. He would run in without targeting a mob, Hibernate, unfreeze maybe target a mob for 2 seconds, untarget everything, repeat. So in effect seldom target anything.

I don't understand ice tanks but if I waited for him to target a mob he died. So I had to go back to selecting targets manually.

How do you guys select an anchor? How do you guys change this if working with an Icy Tank.

I managed to get out on a friendly run with low level alts today which was entertaining.

Guys,

Any tips on how to get invites to Teams that are doing story arcs or MAs that are interesting? Everything seams to be power-leveling and farming. I am not opposed to these things but find a lot of the fun is missing from these groups.

My SG is dormant so that's not the answer.

Update on 64 bit vista the leak is still there but the extra memory means it is not an issue.

For my ATI card the best solution I could find was to use Tweak CoH to set it to run in Windowed mode and then hiding the windows task bar.

It seams to work okay except for the very minor issue of the window having a title bar.

This may be old news however on the US forum there is a quote from the knowledgebase saying that the dual monitor/blacking out problem can be solved by doing this:

However I found this had a hit on performance and that this was a better solution:

1. Open the Nvidia Control Panel (In Advanced Mode)
2. Got to Display>Set Up Multiple Displays
3. Change the displays from Display 1+2 to Display 2+1 (for exampls Sharp + Dell becomes Dell + Sharp)
4. Make sure the display you want Windows to use as primary is still your gaming/main desktop screen.
5. Apply the changes
6. Launch City of Heroes/Villains

This works with the latest nVidia drivers for my 7900GTO. I hope it works for you.

Now to replace the Nvidia card with my ATI and see if I can do something similar there!

Hi Guys,

Well I've had a few technical issues but I got rid of the sound loop issue, got my ATI card settings as per recommended fixing log in problems etc. However one fault remains... I have a memory leak and then Vista 32 bit runs out of memory.

This is a bit of a pain as it results in me crashing out of the game which looks antisocial to anyone I'm in a party with.

I've tried everything including updating Soundmax drivers, latest BIOS, various versions of ATI drivers, swapping my ATI graphics card for an nVidia one!

However I still have a memory leak.

Any ideas?

I'm going to install Vista 64bit now as at least that way I will see all 4GB of RAM

I joined a PUG with this guy that always sends me invites without tells (and I previously always ignored him). What happened I died (stupidly for a second time) and the healer on the PUGs response was to just walk past my dead body ignoring me. I waited assuming he was on recharge however he just continued to ignore my body at his feet.

When I asked him if he could "rez me please" he told me to "F*** off to the hospital you a***hole".

I had thanked him when he previously rezed me so he had no excuse and found this sort of behaviour really off putting. I never experienced anything so rude in WoW (although in WoW you can be banned for that sort of behaviour) which I have only just returned to CoH from. Moreover being an adult with a wife, house, car, and friends I don't experience this sort of behaviour in real life either.

Why on Earth would anyone play an Empath with that sort of a character defect? Is there an in game mechanism better than turning the other cheek to respond to this behaviour?

Ok so I just tried out a build with Lightning Bolts (instead of Balls) and superspeed with (wait for Reduce Inertia for vertical stuff). The key change was taking leadership (minus manoeovers coz i cant spell) + combat jumping as toggles but dropping the fitness pool. My conclusion... a lot more watching my status bars and a little more seat of pants (normally everything is at full for me) however it works. I solod much better as well. I accept that there is life without Stamina although it's a little less cautious.

I now have to decide between combat jump and superspeed.

Stamina because if I'm in Kinetics and Electric mode I drink Endurance like crazy. I know I can rebuff with Transference but if you miss or accidentally target someone out of range....

Zapp I'm not sure of to be honest but with no Stamina needs I had choices and with End Drain borked it seemed a useful opener. Level 30 power I haven't decided on yet at all.

Zapp is a nice strike but it's interupt time means that it isn't used as much as I thought I'd use it when I got it so I think I can afford to drop it.

I notice you've got aid other, when do use it?

Anyone else have a view on if Stamina is needed or not?

Could be wrong about what you mean here, but the buffs from Leadership power pools *do* stack between team members and even if you just happen to be standing near someone with their toggles on in Atlas - this is one of the main points of the pool. The more people have it the better the boost from them!

Ah I'd read that Assault and Tactics don't stack any more but perhaps this is mince. Anyone know if they still stack with other team members Leadership buffs?

I know what you mean with Lightning Bolt being a much better single target damage power and a resonable alpha when soloing.

I have been struggling on making the choice although I do find soloing a bit tough with this build but I've maybe not got quite got used to the style of play the skills require.


When would you take Speed Boost? Instead of a current skill or later? I've stretched myself to get hasten and tactics. Is the Leadership Pool worth getting or as the buffs don't stack should I gamble on someone else in the group having the skills. I am really after the Accuracy boost from Tactics. I hate missing.

(I don't have arthritis but do get joint pain so am trying to minimise my spamming of Speed Boost and more importantly I find it a bit dull).

1. Note that this will be my first build without Lightning Bolt as I reckon that Ball Lightning may be a better choice (AOE so more effect in total) however I will miss LB. Comments?

2. I want Tactics as I hate missing! (I haven't ran Tactics before).

3. Where would you build from here? Acrobatics, Speed Boost, and Tesla Cage all look attractive. Tesla Cage looks most appealing as next power. I will take Fulcrum Shift as soon as it's available.

4. Swift or Hurdle? I took Hurdle as I'm a SJer will it help or should I take Swift for moving around mission maps faster.

5. I have delayed taking Speed Boost as I am getting RSI from spamming it. It's a bit of a drag for full parties every 60s. Wouldn't mind if it was just the tank. Also I speed boost everyone and they run off to the next fight and start it before I get there! Thoughts please. I am currently speced with it and will probably get it again I just want a few other powers first.

6. Slotting was a first pass. Comments?

Had a great party last night. Just a 3 man PUG, all started with a guy on a mission needing help (he was a Controller). Myself (Kin/elec Defender) and another defender (storm-weather-thingy/elec) came to help.

We stormed through two missions in no time, XP and levels rolled by and we had great fun. You would never have guessed how powerful this combination was.

Anyway I've added them to my friends list and will gladly play again. However I thought I'd post as it's not necessarily what you would imagine would be the make up of a good team.

don't worry I did something a bit mad and after testing a spec did a completely different "make something different" spec on the live server.

The new spec is ranged (no short circuit, Lightning Bolt and Zapp are the two attacks) but features siphon speed and speed boost (or whatever it's called).

Boosting other players speed goes down very well and I was spamming it in my 3 man party and it worked very nicely.

I messed up my travel powers, going for a TP build. I don't think I like it, but maybe if I extend the range of TP it will work better.

I'm going to try to respec. I'm currently assessing giving up flight and taking up Superspeed and running (although I might find it makes me motion sick :-P )

I'm also considering if I should get Rez (revive or whatever it's called) just coz everyone expects a defender to be able to Rez even though I'm not Empathy. I like the Kinetic skills but I'm not sure people understand what I'm doing a lot of the time. In addition the AoE heal (transfusion) is difficult in places like the Reactor in Terra Volta where people can be at opposite ends of the hall fighting. Still I'm tempted to make another Kinetic but pair it with Rad or Psy.

As for the Supergroup thing, a good point. I'm currently a Ronin and need to play long enough to assess which SGs are good.

I've noticed that the servers are quieter than I remember them. Is this because the players have leveled up or are there less players?
