Bunch of Anchors : Kineticists and Tanks

Hi,

My main is a Kin/Ele defender and after coming to the realisation that your anchor inevitably will die faster than you wish I gave up on searching for the least likely anchor to die soon and came up with the strategy of targeting through the tank. This is good as your heals are likely to be near the tank (except when someone does a knockback) and you can ID/SB the tank as required with little effort.

This has worked well for me up to this week when partied with an Ice Tank. He would run in without targeting a mob, Hibernate, unfreeze maybe target a mob for 2 seconds, untarget everything, repeat. So in effect seldom target anything.

I don't understand ice tanks but if I waited for him to target a mob he died. So I had to go back to selecting targets manually.

How do you guys select an anchor? How do you guys change this if working with an Icy Tank.

Thanks,
Lord Giro

Lietenants are a good anchor of choice, strong enough that they wont often die in your teams alpha strike, or if they do, that mob encounter probably wont need much effort.

Also since minions, especially with lots of AoE around die fast accidentally, while Bosses get targeted and tend to drop fast, these guys tend to stick around the longest.

i've found when you tab through a mob everyone seems to do it in the same order, so i tab past the first LT or boss if there's more than one, sometimes through the whole mob to see what's in there. As jamie said, LT's make a good choice as they're not high on the list of priorities but won't die with a couple of AoE's going off.

I normally use Shift+Tab to the first ltnt I find on my Rad, cause that's the reverse order to people who tab

Shift+Tab sounds like a good idea :-D I'll actually change my key bind to do that by default. Thanks.

Is it normal for an Icey Tanker not to target mobs for most of the fight. I swear I don't remember ever having the experience before although I did recently return after a break from CoH.

In an ideal set up versus stupidly high risk enemies with just a kin to rely on there will be two groups one for melee and one for rangers and targeting through the tank would be most sensible.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

Not really, if anything something should be targeted, sometimes it'll be something not nearby which is what you could look out for.

I'm afraid i will have to disagree with Shannon. The tanker moves around alot, and can also taunt the people out of range a fair amount too to try and pull them into the group. A tanker is always changing its target to keep the agro and that isn't really ideal for you. Changing target so much there is a much higher chance that your heals etc will not fire off. I'd say target the Luits/Bosses as a general rule instead of the tanker. Yes targetting the tanker is a good idea, for the reasons i've stated above, its not ideal or the best way to go about things. Obviously however it is your character and will depend on how you want to play.

My WP/Fire tank doesn't target foes until I've hit at least combustion to make sure I'm grabbing most of the agro, if that hit all of them and they are tight around me I'll probably move on to Fire Sword Circle before I start tabbing around and taunting.

My Ice/DB targets straight away cause I plan to start the weaken combo, or energy torrent to get mitigation from the start.

My Ice/Ice normally lays down a slick before I target and will then hit Energy Absorption. or the other way around, depending on recharge.

So I think the secondary makes a difference as well as the primary. When playing my Ice/Fire blaster on a fast moving team I don't always get around to targeting before the group is dead as I'm working on PBAoEs and LBAoEs, it probably works similar for tanks, if its not a "taunt" moment and you're PBAoE heavy you probably wont be selecting targets as its an unnecessary key use that takes time

The stupidly high risk enemies would be ie "The entire inner circle" together. Tanking 101 says don't move around with them, get them all in a nice position that offers range behind them, allow the team to create a formation of where they're positionally advantaged and don't shift so they can easily hold it.

You may think that people know the game well enough after one toon and are able to PL the rest of the game with any alt but I really question that theory. Typical Lieuts and Bosses aren't the stupidly high risk bunch.

I do believe that attacks that do the largest area of gauntlet should be other peoples sign as ready rather than taunt. Even if I am taunting AVs I could still rather stack more before people start.

Yep combustion on my /fire tank is a good agro grabber cause of its large AoE, and its very visual. But I'd rather people waited till FSC so I have both down first
