  1. Last I heard it was one transaction (aka game/expansion/pack/etc) per day.

    Yes, it is annoying.

Yes, NCSoft knows that it is annoying to its playerbase, especially as there are not any clear warnings about such on the site.

I do not know for certain if the clock is reset upon each attempt to purchase, or if it only is locked out upon a successful purchase; nor am I certain a "day" is by calendar or 24 hours.

I too ran into this problem a few months ago myself when wanting to indulge in three of the CoH packs at once. Got the error message like you. Learned on the forums it was normal. Rolled eye. Waited 48-72 hours between purchases at the NCStore to be on the safe side.

    Good luck with your purchases!
  2. I re-uninstalled, swept, and installed video drivers as instructed. Error persists.

    ((removed, computer replaced))
  3. I last was logged into and playing the City of Hero game in Praetoria, US Freedom Server, on Sunday February 13 2011.

The next time I tried to log in (I think it was Tuesday February 15 2011) I received the following error after pressing "Next", before the login screen would load:

My hardware has not changed. Graphics card is an nvidia GeForce 8500GT for Windows Vista 32-bit.

So far I tried loading the most recent driver version 8.17.12.6658 aka 266.58

I tried uninstalling and reloading the drivers that were on the system last week.

I tried uninstalling and reloading the most recent drivers again.

I tried uninstalling and deleting the ENTIRE City of Heroes game from my system, then re-downloading the game from scratch at http://download.cityofheroes.com/US/CoH_NA_Setup.zip

As easy to surmise, I still can't get past that same error message.

I've exhausted my troubleshooting know-how. I've tried browsing this technical forum for similar situations, but can't figure out what to try next.

Any and all constructive advice would be sincerely appreciated (and desperately needed).

    Stuck,

Yours get more replays by far.

    Now that that is established...

It's hard to top BlueBattler's idea. Hmm.

5th Anniversary Video was a recap of in-game history.

6th Anniversary video was a recap of game/issue history.

Do you still want to go with something immersive, as if getting a highlight's glimpse at game events? Then maybe highlights of major story arcs/TF/SF, especially ones that parallel between Primal and Praetoria. Maybe the 7 top/biggest, to go with the theme, but that might skew things artificially.

Or perhaps another step outward from the screen, which would be your personal experience of the game over the years. Again, something along BlueBattler's idea, maybe chasing a different featured hero/villain for each landmark time/event instead of just Positron.

On the dry humor side, could do a "respec across the ages" type, where with each new update a Respec was done to allow for the game changes. (Recent example: Respec when Fitness pool became inherent.) I suggest a /regen scrapper, as there is boundless material there. Probably with a narrative of the hero periodically needing vacation time from his SG to adjust for his latest mutation.
  7. Best guess is that it refers to 2008 April Fools' Day (LINK):

Other possibilities indicate taking the "do" out of "freedom", but I'm not as sure about that because the Freedom server's second spelling is already Freedumb.

  9. theOcho aka Mod08 aka Eric,

Thank you so much for helping support one of the greatest online communities. It was because you were a part of it that it was so good, and I'm glad to hear you will be staying around as yourself even after giving up the red name title.

Speaking of titles, thank you for all the Gold Titles in the 2010 Real World Hero charity drive! You and Avatea helped make that an extra special community event, and I hope you'll continue to be involved in those with the rest of us between your adventures red-side.

    Grateful,
    ~Yydr

PS Welcome to the community, Beastyle aka Mod 5. You have some big shoes to fill, and lots of supporters who want you to do well.
  10. Mr. Wentworth said it best:

The Real World Hero Charity Drive has concluded for this year.
    Final donations for the event:

    $12,010.00

Thank you, so much for the tremendous support!
This effort would not be possible without this wonderful community.
  11. The Real World Hero charity event is almost over, but there is still time and activities to participate in!

CHARITY DRIVE - Still time to donate! The charity drive ends tomorrow January 1, 2011. And if anyone still needs a last-minute tax write off for 2010...

CHRISTMAS COSTUME CONTEST CAVALCADE - Voting is happening on the forums. Chime in for which Child's Play avatar is your favorite!

CHARITY BALL - Mark the end of another successful year of the charity drive in style. The official announcement welcomes all to join in the celebration at the Pocket D Ski Chalet on Virtue from 6:00 - 9:00 pm PST (9:00 - midnight EST) tomorrow Saturday, January 1, 2011. Hope to see you there!

Thank you all for joining in to make this a fantastic season of caring!

It's the guy on the Atlas Park town hall staircase.
I had to listen to the activist while he got through thirteen other pamphlets such as

"The Tailor needs a salon! Come on, people! Who doesn't want stripey hair? Huh??"

    and

"Clean up Perez Park! Burn down half of it! It's a villain-infested maze!"

    plus

"War Witch for local council! Don't discriminate against the breathing-challenged!"

    before he got to

"Hey, this one only says 'TODO: Add Text'. Who printed this?! Take it anyway! I gotta get rid of 'em!"

but it was worth the wait!
  13. Does anyone have the link of where we go to vote?

That's a good idea, thanks for the tip.

  16. Nicely done, Hercules. Glad you got the forums to work.

If you saved the costume file in the character creator it will be located in your City Of Heroes folder. Probably at C > Program Files > City of Heroes > costumes .

Simply attach the costume file in an email to info@realworldhero.com with your Global Name. I also attach the picture for good measure.

Edit: And Fireheart beat me to it. ;->
  17. An iconic hero representative for charity? Sounds like what Santa does for Christmas.

Keeping that in mind here is what I imagined based upon the impressions from the Real World Hero info pages...

    Operation Gratitude

This one was the easiest: Super-Mom Carolyn Blashek

The definition of a natural hero, I see her as an energy/energy blaster who refused to take "No, this is too much for you." for an answer. When she couldn't join the military on the front line of the war, she organized personalized care packages for the troops and became a second mother to them all. More than 600,000 packages will have been shipped by the end of 2010 from the Operation Gratitude she founded. A personification of a true Real World Hero!

    Heifer International

Firemoth already did a nice one, so this is as much a tribute to her design as Heifer.

    Donate Games

I vote that the ultimate representative for Donate Games would be Sparrow_Hawk's Dungeon Master, but since he is busy in a D&D marathon campaign how about a sprite from AE to step in and do the honors?

    Child's Play

If there is one thing a child teaches, it is that play time is serious stuff. They have a magic that can transform absurd into amazing and simple fun into fantastic. But it takes more than one child to the reach maximum creativity threshold. That is why there are two avatars for Child's Play.

Meet Chelsey, the spunky pink princess buccaneer with her purple cat-changes-into-seahorse Sally, and Piers, the blue moon ninja who is master at night.

Of course, just like Santa they are only as strong as their legions of friendly helpers, each and every one a Real World Hero.
  18. My little side project this week...

    Full size: LINK

Images are a screenshot of the in-game character creator plus icons from:
    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Origins
    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Archetypes
    http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf...rchetypes.html -and/or-
    http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf...rchetypes.html

Controller is my favorite Archetype so it ended up at the top left, with everything evolving from there.

Think the icons should be in a different order? I'd be very interested in other opinions and examples. Template used for placement: LINK

Thank you for stopping by! Now back to your regularly scheduled holiday celebrations...
  19. These made me grin. Especially the lines: "Heroes take me away / I just want to play City the whole of Christmas day." A guilty smile, but still.

    Thanks for sharing.
  20. The player-instigated, dev-approved charity drive Real World Hero at http://realworldhero.com/ has had a lot of GREAT events and creative activities in 2010: Kick-off of the Wentworth Country Club, YouTube video and P4A, AE ARC #468971, auction, gold titles, updates on Facebook and Twitter, sponsorships, leveling marathon, trivia contests, costume contests, Make Me A Superhero!, INF giveaway, and still more to come and in the works.

Personally my favorite has been the special in-game Gold Titles!

What has been your favorite promotional activity so far for the Real World Hero charity drive?

Speaking of handing out INF, I'm under Atlas Statue to do the full TRIVIA CONTEST. Come join in! Prizes are 1mil INF per question!
