So I timed myself against a pylon and pulled out 2:10ish with no lore pets. Good, but a bit lower than I expected for an ill/cold. So my question is this: What APP/PPP is best for taking down hard single targets? I'm using Mace Mastery's Poisonous Ray and the Toxic Tarantula. Should I switch to /ice or /fire? Does a smooth attack chain outweigh the additional -resist and pet damage over time?

Shame on you all. This has been the most offensive, impolite, insulting, and non-constructive thread as has ever surfaced on the CoH forums. Especially you, Local_Man, what with your helpful and insightful posts. Tsk tsk.
:P -
Pour a ridiculous amount of inf into an ill/cold and beat both of em.

Holy smokes. Brawl only to 50. That's gotta be the CoX equivalent of the South Park boys killing boars or mowing the White House lawn with hair clippers.
Well done! I think. I won't presume to speak for you, but I really wonder if some part of you wants those 268 hours back. -
Honestly, I haven't the time this summer to thoroughly test the proc again using numbers. It's been more of a feel thing so far. It's such a difference tho that it's obvious something recently changed again. It's gone from near 100% proc rate when slotted in roots to much lower than 33% (1/3). So it's easy to notice. I'm sorry, I'd produce some numbers but I'm in the middle of studying for the California BAR.

Against anything but AVs and GMs and to a lesser extent EBs, Permadom is easily more powerful than any self-buff available in my opinion. What other power allows for complete (100%, not 95%) safety from enemies? That's the beauty. It doesn't matter how strong the enemy is. A boss could have a 50% tohit bonus and strike for 5000 damage per hit and it wouldn't matter. Perma Dull Pain? Perma Eclipse? Meh, those only prolong life. But, mez the boss and he's about as harmless as a RWZ training dummy. Now apply that to entire spawns and you have Permadom.

A while back I was part of an ITF. We were on the third mission, and were whittling down the computer. Suddenly, a bad case of scrapperlock set in and I remember quietly jumping up to the platform where all of the 5th Column, Requiem, and Rommy waited. Scrapperlock being what it is, I was forced to jump in and engage the entire spawn at once, right there on the platform. The rest was a blur, but I remember a bit of what my teammates said after I came to.
"Wait, did someone kill the AVs?"
"It was Lockdown Artist."
...
"Nobody should be able to [kill those 2 AVs] that casually." -
In all seriousness, THB really does have a rockin build. It's not the absolute "I-win" button he's made it out to be in his ubiquitous boasts, but that's a good thing. If it were, THB wouldn't be the one to hate. It would be the devs for failing at game balance.
This game can be funny sometimes. Sometimes I feel invincible on my plant/dom, even taking out spawns of 54 Rularuu. But then I'll come up against a Rularuu spawn that's too spread out or located on a floating, angled air craft carrier, and I'll struggle mightily. I learned a lesson in humility that day. It doesn't matter how powerful my build is, lapses in concentration and the almighty RNG always make the difference. -

Quote:Thanks THB. On point, I've been testing the reward/kill ratio lately with my plant/psi dom and while it flies in the face of what I understand about confuse actually increasing xp over time, i've found that the seeds tends to actually lower rewards somewhat compared to other similarly fast farmers such as my ss/fire (in farms at least).I owe some more apologies to some people who have Plant/Psi Dominators that actually exist. Little_Whorn comes to mind: So, I sincerely apologize. I just did a couple of ambush runs with my pal. On a smaller map our times were within a second of each other. On a larger map, he actually beat me by almost a minute. I was very impressed- He did a much better job keeping runners locked down which made him more efficient than me on the larger map. I must say that I apologize for doubting the abilities of the Plant Dominator.
I'm curious to see the impact that the ridiculous amount of confusion has on rewards earned, since quite a lot of his confused enemies seemed to be defeating each other. We were going to do a single target test also, but it started to get late, and I need to go get some food and get ready for the hockey game.
I apologize again to everyone (characters that actually exist) who I doubted though.
In my experience, plant doms can use seeds to increase kill speed up to elite levels, but it's not without a price. Sometimes, against other elite damage dealers, my plant dom sacrifices some rewards to match their speed. In other words, the plant dom can exceed most other farmers enough in terms of kill speed to make up for the lost rewards. But where she can't (i.e. up against another elite farmer), it becomes harder and harder to draw even. All of which matches what I understand from Local_Man's confusion analysis. In order for confuse to result in even or more rewards, the confusing must increase kill speed by some impossible to measure amount. But in racing the absolute fastest farmers, it's still very difficult for my tricked out plant/dom to exceed the speed of these farmers enough to make up for the high xp.
Of course, this comes with caveats. Plant doms, when built well, aren't really slowed down by any spawns. So whereas a ss/fire or some other farmer slows down against longbow or vanguard or something, my plant/psi dom keeps trucking along. Usually the difference is more than enough to account for the lost rewards. Secondly, seeds can be somewhat unpredictable. Go up against enemies with high dps but low burst and the lost xp isn't a problem. But go up against enemies with high aoe burst damage and they can sometimes take out too many of their allies for me to do enough damage to keep the reward ratio up.
Of course, the vast majority of in-game currency is earned from recipe drops, a-merits, and other rewards that aren't lowered by confuse. So the lowered reward ratio is only really somewhat a factor in pure powerleveling or AE farming. And the difference is not as much as you'd think. -
On release, the dom ato proc almost never fired in quick recharging AoE powers like any of the aoe immobs, but fired at almost 100% on quick recharging single target attacks.
Then, the devs fixed the proc rate, so it goes off evenly between the single target attacks and the aoe immobs, leading to the proc being useful in either power.
And now I returned after a few weeks to find that the proc almost never fires again when it's slotted in my aoe immob. What gives? It's annoying having to burn a respec to switch the proc between roots and subdue on my plant/psi every time the devs feel like changing the proc behavior. I really wish it would just freakin' proc normally in my aoe immob so i can slot the entire set and be happy. It worked fine the way it was. Why did they change it back again? I hate slotting the proc in subdue because that pretty much means I have to break up the set and say goodbye to the 5% ranged defense.
C'mon devs. Make up your mind. /endwhine -
Running out of popcorn here. To quote the Simpsons: It's horrible, but you can't take your eyes away. It's like watching a monkey swallow a hand grenade.
My favorite part was when others introduced plant/psi doms as competition. His response: "I have a friend who has a plant/psi dom and he can't beat me, so therefore no plant/psi dom can beat me." Bwuahahaha! Because it can't be that your friend has no clue how to play.
The ironic and slightly sad part is that the success of THB's (not that new) build is completely undermined by his abrasive, narcissistic, contemptuous, almost comically ridiculous ego. Fred Phelps is less arrogant than THB. And he's completely oblivious to how he comes off to the overwhelming majority of other players. Either that or even more ludicrously, he has convinced himself that everyone hates him for his "greatness." If anyone wants to know how to turn everyone against you, apparently Fred Phelps and THB are happy to demonstrate. -
Referring to your earlier post, THB: Well, as I'm sure you're aware, everyone builds differently. Two builds, even at high levels of expense, can perform very differently, especially in the hands of two different skilled players. So I can only speak for myself. I don't know how this other player built his dom or played it. Further, seeds of confusion, in certain circumstances, tends to make every spawn experience different. For example, if the spawn is longbow, seeds tends to make the entire encounter extremely fast once the nullifiers mass res debuff their friends. But, put me up against carnies which phase, and my "constant stream" of damage suffers in comparison to your blasters "high burst" damage. Another example of variable performance comes against malta. You'd think the robots high psi resists would slow my plant/psi/ice dom, but the combination of seeds, malta's high damage attacks, and sleet makes every encounter almost a breeze.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't know how I could prove to you that my dom can compete with your blaster. I can't speak for your friend and his experiences are by no means reflective on my performance. I'd offer to show in person, but I'm a virtue player and you're on freedom. I'm not surprised you don't believe me, but there's not much I can do about that. -
Quote:Personally, just my plant/psi/ice. She's my main and so she tends to take most of my inf. But, with more money, I'm sure I could build a fire/psi/fire or a fire/psi/ice or a plant/psi/fire to accomplish the same goals. I think plant is a bit faster than fire, but I'm fairly certain fire could compete with plant and your blaster if built right.Fascinating! How many Dominators have you accomplished all these feats on?
But let me redirect back to you: How many Blasters have you accomplished all these feats on? -
Quote:Umm, those would be dominator builds, not controller builds. And yes, certain dom builds can solo just as fast as arch/ment (not to mention MUCH safer) and are just as capable at soloing high lvl AVs and GMs.Sure! Please let me know as soon as you build a Controller that can farm on 54x8 as fast or faster than high end Brute sets, and solo AV's and GM's in a reasonable amount of time under the same conditions mentioned in the original post. I look forward to what you come up with!

Quote:Nobody shamelessly self-promotes quite as...vigorously as THB lately. The funny part is that his blaster really is pretty powerful, but the way he constantly brags about it...can't stop picturing this:Somehow i always imagine THB groin-thrusting at his monitor as he posts in these threads. Inexplicable, i know.

I have accomplished all of the above on my plant/psi/ice Dom. She's actually some what similar to your arch/mental except where she provides much more AoE control, she lacks the single target damage that your blaster has. So against large spawns, she's extremely effective, but against 54 avs and gms, her battles lean more heavily on drain psyche and it becomes a war of attrition. But all in all, same accomplishments as your blaster. My current project with her is to solo the itf on 54. I can finish most of the tf almost without dying, but I'm still struggling to take out rommy and his nicti buddies. But I'll get em sooner or later.

Quote:Wish I knew how the math works here. How does Frostwork get reduced for each pet tier, rather than providing a static buff?Just fyi, I FWd my Bots to see the results. They are:
FW = 1044.09
Assault Bot
963.81 no FW
1445.71 with FW
Prot Bot
768.83 no FW
1153.24 with FW
Drones
574.95 no FW
862.43 with FW
So, very nice buff. Not exactly doubling but it is a big help. I've tended to skip FW on the other Cold Dom toons I've made for the other 3 ATs, but I'm pretty sure I'd take it for a MM. -
C'mon fellow CoHers, all it takes is a few mins in RWZ with an analyzer. If this is a bug, it might be an easy fix that will help the ever-popular Assault Bot reach its advertised potential.
-
It seems like the Assault Bot's plasma blast and dual plasma blast are not applying the -regen at a 100% rate. After testing for ten minutes with the combat analyzer against the RWZ dummies, there are noticeable gaps in the -regen and in fact, most of the time the Assault Bot can only maintain 500% -regen, despite spamming both dual plasma blast and plasma blast. Sometimes I would order the Assault Bot to start attacking, it'd open with a plasma blast, and absolutely no -regen would occur at all. I know that the -regen used to be only 30%, but supposedly a while back (and this is matched in the in-game description) the % was corrected to be 100%. It most definitely is not 100% now, a far cry from perma -1000% regen as would be expected.
This seems to be a bug. Anyone else able to confirm this? -
In my experience, /Dark=more damage. /Psi=more survivability due to Drain Psyche. As far as Dark Control vs. Plant control, they're close enough for non-minmaxers, so I suggest picking based on concept. Ultimately, none of the powersets you've mentioned are lemons and you'll probably have more fun with the powerset you find more visually appealing rather than more powerful.
-
Could also do plant/dark. Seeds by lvl 8 and AoE damage by lvl 20.
-
Most of the AVs and signature characters do that? Hell, I gotta pay better attention to the enemies I'm fighting. I didn't even notice that and I've finished the entire SSA arc. Oh well, and good point about the running defenseless into melee. I guess that would be splat city.
Too bad this game doesn't have a visually appealing and simple way to show me what powers/attacks a targeted foe is using, like Guild Wars does. I guess the combat log works somewhat, even if it becomes a jumbled mess in a big spawn.
