Quote:Of course there are, but how many of those companies have visible presences in Paragon City? There are far more companies, stores, and restaurants in Primal Earth than there are in Praetoria.
Look around Imperial City enough and you'll notice that corporate logos for various labs, industries, and corporations are everywhere. Most buildings in Paragon City don't have that; it's mostly limited to the franchise stores. -
I just want to say, TheUnamedOne, that I love you forever for making a guide like this.
My Masterminds used to have most of their power trays dominated by the summoning/upgeade powers, which thanks to the macro popmenu system I've been able to condense into a single button.
I also found this incredibly useful for making lots of customized social actions for my characters, so I don't have to devote a tray or two of macro buttons just to have some fun.
There was one thing I thought you might want to make clear in your initial post, though; you don't have to make a modified quickchat.mnu file for this to work. The way you wrote that initial bit about going to look at the quickchat guide (which I had to search for due to the way the boards have been changed) left me confused and hesitant because I thought I was gonna have to modify the Quickchat menu itself.
I'm really happy we can just make individual files for each popup menu though, and it's seriously improved my play experience already! -
Quote:Making anyone's names fair game, I think, is hardly the answer.I'm of the opinion that if your account lapses for three months, your names should be fair game.
Quote:I'd like it if they snagged the name system from Cryptics game.
Putting more emphasis on the global name without making it invasive (like what that one guy said about making names look like e-mail addresses) would probably put cake in the hands of most people, and let them eat it.
I haven't read this thread all the way but I'm sure there's been a few people who'll object to ideas like this, given the idea that heroes and villains are supposed to stand out and be unique. However, if you look at the comics industry, you'll see a few instances where the different comic book companies have characters with similar or identical names, and within each company, you'll sometimes find multiple people who've laid claim to the same title or identity. Maybe not all at once, but still. -
Give the older zones facelifts, both in missions and in graphics.
I mean, seriously. I want to see some sweet normal map lovin' applied to Atlas Park's City Hall and the statues of Paragon City.

Quote:Really? I'll pay attention when I get to those caps and see if they say anything.Actually, there is some dialog in game that implies most heroes do have corporate sponsorship. I know it's related to the new costume slots but I don't think it's from the tailors themselves, I think that it's from the trainers when you train level 20/30/40. Or maybe I'm insane and misremembering.
Or maybe it's related to an inf badge? -
I dunno, I could see something like this working best in Praetoria's Imperial City. There's a lot of corporations with names and identities in Praetoria, compared to Paragon City's mostly-generic buildings.
Also, Praetorians might be more receptive to the idea of powered people with corporate sponsors than Primal Earth, given that Hero Corps has a shoddy reputation in the backstory; heroism for profit doesn't sit that well among Primals, it seems. -

Quote:Keep in mind that just because you've never experienced it, doesn't mean that others have had that problem. Please don't read this as a criticism, but I have yet to see such a situation.
I can't claim to know how simple or time consuming it would be for the devs to add a "lock" option to power tray icons, but if they can do it, I would use it. A lot.
I mean, we already have a right click popup menu for power tray icons where we can either remove it from the tray or get info on it. They could add a "Lock in Place" option right in that menu, and then allow people to unlock it at any time by selecting the same option again. -
This is why we need rainbow powerset customization.

Quote:Superpowers makes you special, as does martial training, a gun makes you just like all the other men with guns.Quote:Wow. I think I just read this and mentally shelved all of my characters with guns.
Quote:It's not that training doesen't matter for guns, they do, but they're not as significant (not by miles) You can throw together a competent rifleman in two weeks, to train an archer takes years. (one of the signifances of te batte of Lepanto was precisely this, the sultan could rebuild his fleet but not retrain his archers)
Guns make people more like each other (they equalize physical capabilities) to an extent that eg. swords or bows do not.
However, there are things you can do with guns that take the kind of effort and training you'd need to be an effective swordsman, martial artist, or archer.
Schismatrix said earlier, "all that training that prize winning shooters do before competing is just morale building; it has no actual effect on performance." Take a look at that video I just linked. You can't tell me that an average joe can pick up a gun and do the exact same thing without training at least as much as he has. Or, to quote Bob Munden himself:
"It's like a magician trick. The difference is the magician is giving the illusion that he's doing something that he's really not. We, on the other hand, are doing something that looks like an illusion, but we're honestly doing it!"
It would take a superhero to apply those kind of skills to effective modern-day crime fighting, just as much as it would martial arts, archery, or swordsmanship.
Of course, Bob Munden is already considered a superhuman by Stan Lee. In the episode in which he appears, they monitor his quickdraw and find that he can draw, manually pull back the hammer, and fire his gun faster than the average reaction time of the human brain.
Not the average time to draw and fire a pistol, I must stress, but the average time in which a person's brain reacts.
Keep in mind that he can do this while firing two bullets almost simultaneously from a revolver, like my video link shows. (He also does it in the Superhumans episode I mentioned, to prove he has superhuman accuracy.)
Which, combined with the abilities he shows off in the provided video, I think is reason enough to shoot down the argument that "guns can't be part of a superpower," if you'll forgive the expression. -
Quote:Ohhh yeah. I'd love to see locks implemented. I have a serious problem with shuffling power tray icons while trying to click on them in a pitched battle. This happens most often with powers where I need to specify a target location. We NEED to be able to LOCK the positions of our Power Trays on our UI.
We NEED to be able to LOCK the Tray Selection Arrows on our Power Trays.
For the record, I do make liberal use of the numerical hotkeys--but sometimes, clicking on the power tray is far more expedient than a kotkey combo.
I'd file all of this under "Quality of Life requests," personally. -
D'oh! Level 50s only ... It's gonna be a few more years before I hit the cap, haha. (Been playing since 2008 and I'm only level 37 ...)
There's some great concepts and descriptions here, though! -
How did you get a hold of Sister Psyche's rubber duckie?!
-
Quote:Aw, man! No, I haven't! Where'd you guys see them say that? Peregrine Island? You never saw that one? It goes something like:
"So, my cousin was telling... NEMESIS IS WATCHING YOU, SMASH ZONE... me about a great new shop at the mall." -
Hey Bubbawheat, I just wanted to say; your trailers have inspired me to try out the arcs for which you've made trailers.
And I have not regretted doing this one bit! (Your trailer for Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society in particular was awesome!) -
Yeah, I was gonna say ... before stuff like this can be done they gotta revamp how vehicles work.
Not that I wouldn't want to see it, because it would be really awesome to get in on police car chases.
(Which reminds me, where's all the news and police choppers?!) -
Quote:Aah. Well, in that case, I'm glad they changed it to what it is now! Those tips are much better for loading screens.I think it's been a couple of years ago or so. Although, even before that, it was different. They used to give little hints and tips, such as telling you that you could change your costume at Icon and such, things that now appear on the loading screens. Now, it's much more like normal random banter.
...
Though I wouldn't mind having a citizen tell me "It's all a Nemesis plot."
... Boy I wish I had that grinning-while-wiggling-eyebrows emoticon handy! -
I don't actually know if they changed level reqs for the primary/secondary powersets, but I doubt it.
I figured that finding ourselves with more power slots than pickable powers was just because Inherent was no longer "mandatory" in the sense that no character build would be complete without it, so now we've got two-three power slots freed up for other choices. -
Quote:Huh. Well, I'm glad they fixed it at least!I would say that was a bug that got fixed. They used to say a lot of different things, then most of them changed to that generic line, now they are saying varied things again.
How long ago was it when they started saying just that one line? -
Quote:Yes, but now they have much more and different things to say, like my screenshot shows. You mean this?
I know it's been around for a good long time. It's a nice tid bit along with the random Civie making mention of a mission or task you recently did.
Thank you for the time... -
As MMO players, sometimes we can get caught up in complaining about the things we don't like that we forget to thank the devs for the things we do like, or at least show appreciation for improving things. I'm defintely not immune from that behavior, as some of my forum posts show, so I wanted to thank the devs for once on a detail I've recently noticed.
I'm not sure when it was done, but I know it wasn't around when I first started playing in 2008, and I haven't noticed it until this year--but now Paragon City's citizens have a lot of things to talk about if you click on them, just like Rogue Isles' citizens (and Praetoria's).
I don't know if others feel the same way as I do, but I really appreciate that the devs took the time out to change that. It was kind of unsettling for citizens to say, at most, "Nice day, isn't it?" or "Isn't (hero in zone) just the best!" aside from telling you the current time or how long you've been on patrol.
Now they surprise me with some of the things they'll say to you ("Is interrupting people heroic?")!
It's paying attention to details like this which makes City of Heroes so fun to play, even when solo. Thanks for continuing to improve on that, devs!
Now, for an amusing screenshot!
"It's where they keep the nuclear wessels!" -
Hm, here's an idea; if a character is logged out at a supergroup base or base portal and is earning time for their Day Job, why not have them appear at the Supergroup Base, hanging out at random? Wandering its halls, or lounging on chairs, leaning against walls, or summat.
I could get behind the idea of "buying" NPCs to populate our bases, though; but I would love to see offline characters as NPCs in the base if they're getting some Monitor Duty time in.
Both could be done! Supergroup members could appear if they're on Monitor Duty, and other kinds of NPCs could be "bought" for livening the place up.
I mean, who else is gonna man all those cubicles we can buy? -
